The room itself was very good but as it was immediately above a very loud kitchen extraction ventilation system the noise was annoying. Views from the room were just of the car park. Although the location is good for views of the fells there are no direct walks from the hotel.

Very nice hotel and excellent food in both the fine dining restaurant and Bistro. Breakfast is cooked fresh for you with great views of the dales. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. There is no lift in the hotel and it can be quite noisy from around 07.00am with delivery trucks if staying in room at back of hotel.

The view from the restaurant is exceptional but the food does not live up to the experience promised on their glossy website. We went for Sunday Lunch, had a table next to a window with a lovely view over the dales but the worst roast beef and roast potatoes ever. How does a restaurant of this supposed quality mess up the most popular item of Sunday lunch? Beef very fatty, largely inedible. Potatoes very solid needing a lot more gravy to soften them than was provided in the small jug. Appalling for a restaurant claiming two AA rosettes. An extra star knocked off as the price was higher than advertised on their website. No excuse for a major group not to keep their website up to date. Very disappointing.

Had lunch in the Devonshire Fell Conservatory - it had an amazing view, the restaurant was quiet, waiting staff friendly and the seating comfortable. That was a good start but sadly, the experience did not continue, the food was terrible, for myself and two companions. The curry consisted of undercooked vegetables with rice floating on a bland, thin sauce. The ice cream was expensive, supermarket style.

Firstly this is a great hotel with lovely staff. Unfortunately the restaurant doesn’t match up to the rest. It’s a great setting with well spaced tables, we chose from a small menu so we were hoping for attention to detail in the cooking but this wasn’t to be. Our starters were ok but the red wine and onion butter was awful. The mains were poor my stone bass looked old and was over cooked my wife’s duck leg was tiny burnt and unpleasant we shared a portion of new potatoes which were just cooked and turned out to be the better part of the whole sorry meal, we wouldn’t go again.

Would love to give this 5 stars, but sadly I can't. The main issue is value for money. This is a very expensive place to stay, and for the price you expect excellence. And this was very good, but not excellent. Room was showing its age, particularly the bathroom. Bed was uncomfortable. Check in, etc was slightly amateur, food was good, but not excellent. However the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the location is superb, and our weekend was peaceful, which is what we wanted.

First visited back in 1999 and many times since. They had a special 20% offer off for Sunday lunch, I bought as a Christmas present. Happy memories going back yesterday. as good as it has always been, if not BETTER. The food was just wonderful. The staff were just superb, especially Karolina who after discovering came from Krakow and as I visit Krakow often, recommended places to visit and things to do. Thank you for a fabulous afternoon at the Devonshire Fell. See you again soon!

I visited here with my sister last night and from the moment we entered and up until we left, we could not have been more blown away with the warm and genuine welcome, as well as the incredible manners and level of service. Bravo!!!!To be completely honest- the decor needs to change in the dining room- it doesn't go and it could be so smart and stylish- just change the wallpaper and pictures for a start- and the music-----but that is absolutely picking because everything else was just perfect. To start, we were served the best bread we have ever had- even my sis ate it all up and she is very strict with bread! It was perfectly seasoned and the flavours of rosemary and garlic in the focaccia were present yet not overbearing- a difficult feat! It was served with the most heavenly basil and parmesan whipped butter- that stuff needs to be put on the market- I want more----now! Also the wild mushroom arrancini was delicate yet flavoursome- I don't like mushrooms but i'd have these again. The starter of broccoli and stilton soup was again----the perfect balance! Not too cheesy and lovely and creamy. My sister had the salmon starter and the quality of the fish was wonderful- seems rare these days to get decent salmon but they certainly deliveredNext up, we both had steaks. The BEST steaks we have had in years. Beautifully cooked to our preference and full of juicy flavour. The chips were perfection also- usually chips are never worth writing home about- but my word! These are! Everything was superb quality, fresh and local. An absolutely winning combination. To finish we shared a custard tart which was very pleasantMy only tiny criticism would be that I'd like to see a couple more choices on the menu for starter and main and also a cocktail menu but again- nit picking.Highly recommend- we will be back again and again! Great value for money. I hope I left this review in the right place!

We were booked in here for Sunday night but due to some bad service and other issues at the Red Lion Hotel nearby we had to come to The Fell at around 10:20pm on Saturday night and kindly ask if there was space to stay. The staff were accommodating immediately; they could see we were distressed and provided us all with drinks and seats then proceeded to find us rooms. Not only did they find us rooms but they upgraded us and did this for an excellent price. The entire stay was perfect; all staff were attentive and friendly. Michael in particular was amazing on the Saturday and made us all feel welcome whilst also cheering us up! The rooms are perfect for a relaxing stay and the views stunning. We ate breakfast and a three course evening meal whilst staying here and all of the food was exquisite. We were impressed with the response to Covid-19 and will definitely be returning here in the near future.

Stayed in the hotel dinner bed and breakfast. I had 2 dinners, the game terrine was fine but the highlight of the course was a really unusual pickled grape, sounds bizarre but was actually really interesting and pleasant. For main course I had the hake with risotto and lobster bisque. Hake was well cooked and fine, risotto was good but the lobster bisque wasn’t quite reduced enough for me. It lacked the depth of flavour such sauces can have. Dessert was a pear frangipan tart that was served cold, I think on balance it would have been better heated, it came with a warm custard but that cooled quickly on the cold tart. That said flavours were excellent.Second meal was a mackerel starter which, again I enjoyed, followed by a fillet steak. This came with corned beef croutons and also I think a beef cheek rissole. The whole meal was excellent although the steak was a little over the medium I ordered. For desert I had the parkin cheesecake which was original and very good. A comment on one review where they said dietary requirements weren’t catered for. My wife is a vegetarian and had the only vegetarian dish the first night which she enjoyed. Following the meal she was asked what she would like the following night. She asked for a risotto dish and it duly arrived, they were happy to create anything she asked for providing there was time to source ingredients.Service was also excellent.I would say overall this was an excellent place to eat, many restaurants seem to be trying to gain a Michelin star. Here, it felt as though they were just producing the food they felt we would want to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed both meals despite a couple of errors. At £38 for a three course meal standard was very good value.

We made a reservation at the Devonshire Fell to celebrate a special occasion with a party of six. We arrived and the restaurant was bustling. There was a very large group having pre-dinner drinks in the bar getting ready to be seated at their tables. I was warmly greeted and let the staff member know were were there for our reservation. He asked me to wait a moment. He came back and let me know that the reservation had been made for the previous evening (he was right!) and that they had tried to call me the day before, but that the number I had provided had not worked. The restaurant was very full and I was starting to get nervous our evening was on the brink of becoming a disaster. However, I should not have been concerned. The staff member let me know he would talk to the chef to make sure we could be accommodated. He quickly returned and let me know it was no problem if we could be seated in 20 to 30 minutes. He set us up in the lounge and took our drink orders. We were promptly seated and proceed to have a delicious meal. Crisis averted! All in our party enjoyed their meals - my son felt his steak was the best he had over our two week trip in England and Scotland. The food and service were perfect for our celebratory mood. The setting with views from the dining room was absolutely amazing. I can't thank the staff at the Devonshire Fell enough. They salvaged what could have been a miserable evening. The food and service were amazing to boot!

We ate in the conservatory off the fixed price menu. The food was excellent and could not be faulted and is definitely worth 5 stars. If I was able, I would knock off half a star for the service, which was a little brisk at times, try to clear away items when clearly not finished but the other problem was that we, along with other diners, we're asking questions about the food and the serving staff couldn't answer any of the questions. Hopefully, this will be taken as constructive criticism.

The chef here is to be congratulated. All fresh ingredients and excellent choice of menu designed to appeal to everyone. My starter of Beetroot tart was perfect, thin, crispy pastry topped with beetroot and goats cheese, it doesn't sound brilliant written down but the taste.. My husband had the wood pigeon with haggis and black pudding, he was very impressed and this continued through to our mains and sweet course. Confit Lamb and Chicken breast with honeyed carrots as a side dish, they were delicious and the walnut tart with clotted cream - wow, I wish I had the recipe. The service was perfect, staff were really nice and nothing was too much for them. I would highly recommend this, I only wish I lived closer, it would be my restaurant of choice

After a long wait for the food it was quite good, but first impressions were that the staff were unready and the entrance was uncleaned, the table had been booked for at least two weeks so no excuse. The afternoon tea served here is of a good quality and presented very well. It is a little overpriced for the amount you are actually served, however the views from the restaurant are amazing and this could well be the reason for the high price. i booked a table over the phone about 3 to 4 days in advance and had no issue getting a reservation. On arrival, we were promptly shown to our table right by the window. The views are lovely. Our tea/coffee order was taken and any dietary requirements checked. There was a small delay in the tea arriving but this was nothing major. When the food arrived, it was well presented. The scones were a highlight, as they were warm and tasted like they were freshly baked. The sandwiches did not look as good as they do on the website literature, however they tasted very nice. There is enough food to feel content, but we didn't feel stuffed or over faced. I could of eaten a few more savoury items. The 4 stars is because I felt the staff could of done a bit more to make it feel special and check if we wanted any more tea/coffee. Its worth a visit if you have not been before (for the views alone)

We stayed at the hotel and took dinner there a couple of times. The food was pretty good, as one would expect at a top-rated hotel, if not especially imaginative. The locally sourced ingredients are clearly first class. But it's hard not to downgrade it when you get an experience like we had the first night. There was clearly some major staffing problem involved, but no-one should expect to pay these prices (and no credit was offered) when the meal was so slow to appear, when the wine is not delivered to the table (and then the wrong one), when a server seems to be in distress (possibly crying) and when no-one seems to be sure which of two menus is the correct one.A hotel of this standard (and with all those awards) should be able to cope with a missing staff member, for example, by having backup.

Sandwiches etc. arrived a good ten minutes later and looked as though they had been made in a rush and just thrown on the plate. Filling was almost non-existent, scones were under baked and doughy and the cake dry. The other three sweets were ok. I am only sorry that I did not raise concerns with staff during our visit but did not want to upset my mother in law during our mothers day lunch. Many of concerns ref service, costs and automatic add on 5% have been already raised by others in previous reviews. Hotel is in a great location and on a fine sunny day should have been a really memorable mothers day lunch. Unfortunately we found the menu and food to be limited and quite average respectively. The prices are certainly NOT average and we certainly didnt feel as though the overall experience came anywhere near to matching the total cost. A £9 charge for 2 sausages and mash for a 2 year old seemed to confirm that today was just about the money. Perhaps we were just paying for the view!! The views from the hotel are always lovely and on a sunny day ,as when we visited, particularly so . On arrival the place seemed deserted apart from one other couple finishing their lunch so why were we asked " have you booked ? " Happily we were offered a window table from where we could sit and appreciate the view. We each ordered a beer . Mine was very cloudy and I asked for it to be changed . Odd the server hadn't noticed . The white onion soup was delicious served with tasty home made bread . The steak sandwich was not good . Large lumps of fat on the pieces of steak made it unappetizing and spoilt my appetite . I pointed out the problem and the manager said she would speak to the chef about it . The cost of the sandwich was deducted from the bill but I would rather have had a more pleasing lunch . The Devonshire group is known for its high standards . Perhaps it is time to review them at The Fell.

As usual we'd left it to the very last minute to find a quality venue for Christmas Eve and that is where we received both bad news and good news from the Devonshire Fell, in BURNSALL, where we have been for the previous three Christmas Eve celebrations. The bad news was that the Fell was not doing what it had done on the previous occasions, ie a 'festive' meal but the good news was that they had an a la carte menu instead. The really good news was that they could fit us in.The evening started with a complimentary glass of bubbly for my wife and an alcohol-free lager for the driver! There was an excellent choice within each food course, each with a festive slant. My starter of duck croquettes was delicious and the main course of slow-roasted belly pork was sublime.Service was excellent and timely, we were neither hurried nor left waiting 'for ages'. The staff were friendly, very professional and worked hard to make our and the other diners' evening a great occasion. They succeeded.Unfortunately neither of us had 'room to spare' for a third course so we settled for coffee/tea served with delicious home made chocolates.A very pleasant surprise was the bill. Service charge was only 5% which was significantly less than the last time we dined at the Fell. All in all a great meal, great service and lovely people.

Clean plates at the end of the meal. Beautifully cooked and presented food. Friendly and uncomplicated service. Only downside was the pricey drinks but heh ho if you go somewhere for a treat, enjoy the quality and don't think about the price.

We booked for afternoon tea as a special treat for a friends birthday but were very disappointed. The afternoon tea is not as it appears on the web site - there were no sandwiches just lightly slices of toasted white bread with fillings on top. Two of the party had asked for a vegan afternoon tea and this was even more disappointing - again no sandwiches just slices of lightly toasted white bread and the toppings were two slices of cucumber on one two slices of tomato on another a few cherry tomatoes on another and then a few slices of pepper on another. Sadly very lacking in imagination. The vegan tea didn't get scones -and the cake plate for two people consisted of two squares of chocolate, two cookies two chocolate fingers and two shot glasses with a chocolate drink in. The same price paid as for the ordinary tea but was very sub standard. I did write to the Manager but got no reply. I would not recommend an afternoon tea here

Called in with friends for drinks and a very pleasant hour. Tea came with biscuits £3.95 served on bone china and silver tea service. I had a glass of red wine and plenty of choice served by the glass and soft drinks we all really enjoyed what we had.

It's hard to believe you can find such a wonderful restaurant in such a remote area. But the Devonshire Fell restaurant is truly a find. We had two dinners there and each one was superb. Their lamb dishes are perfectly cooked. A rib eye steak was also cooked to perfection. Desserts are spectacular and works of art. It's amazing that you can get such high quality food in a tiny village. Take a drive to this restaurant whenever you're in the Yorkshire Dales.

I ate here last year and had a fantasic meal, great service and wine. It made us decide to use the hotel and the location for our wedding. We came back again for our anniversary, advised the hotel of this, but got a lookwarm response. No aftercare or thought to what would have been a loyal customer in years to come.Meal was strange and eclectic, all the dishes were off the wall with no safe options. My partner had the 'stonefish' which we had never heard of and literally that's all she got! fish on a plate, no side ingredients and she had to borrow mine! I had a tasteless steak. Not worth the expensive cost of the meal.Desset was a mess. Some sort of passionfruit sorbet, lemon tart and some citrus fruit drizzle. the whole dish was a confusing mish/mash of flavours. Clearly a different chef to last time who is trying to over impress, but in reality is out of their depth and does not tasted his/her dishes! In the end, we won't be going again regardless of our anniversary promises, simply because the food was dire and expensive and there is no aftercare for customer service. Its sad really as I only have fond memories of my wedding there now, but no wish to revisit and spoil the experience.

The food here is outstanding! You can see a lot of thought had gone into the menu and presentation. I had the grilled asparagus with duck egg to start and the wild mushroom risotto for mains, both dishes were cooked to perfection. My family opted for calves liver as mains and were both equally impressed with their meals. The only slight criticism from our party was from someone who had orders the scallop, it was beautifully cooked, just not enough!

Guest evening part of wedding reception in May. I had been here before for my 40th birthday quite a few years previously so looked forward to going back. Nothing wrong with the rooms down stairs or the view (although the male toilets are very bizarre - clash of styles trying to look modern!) There was a shortage of staff on the expensive bar although draught beer prices not too bad - one occasionally two bar staff lead to slow service and not particularly friendly, took orders/served you/gazed into distance, second round of drinks came in different glasses due to lack of staff and a back log of washing up. After the bar officially closed the barman went to desk at main door for change where the manager? was counting up the days takings in front of the remaining guests and staff starting trying to clear tables of drinks we hadn't finished. Around midnight we must have outstayed our welcome because out came the Henry and they vacuumed round our feet whilst we sat finishing our drinks!!!! Talk about we've got and counted our money, now clear off!!!! Not impressed and won't be going back although the wedding party enjoyed it.

Apparently, this place had a change of management a couple of years ago which would be around the time we last went.It has become very polished but the service was dreadful, no blame attaching to the one lady who was Receptionist, Bar Staff, Head Waiter and pretty much everything! The food at lunchtime was very limited in choice, quite expensive and very ordinary.I don't imagine that we will go again. The premises are lovely with great views if you are in the front Conservatory style area.

We looked at the website prior to coming here, which promised much.On arrival we were directed to our room, which was on the second floor. This was clean, but had a curious theme of furniture, Victorian v a hard wooden IKEA type chair. There was a winter quilt on the bed, which was too warm. The bathroom was fine, other than water kept leaking from the overflow, even with the taps off! There was a dead fly in our milk jug, however there was good idea to have fresh milk on the landing; unfortunately the landing tablecloth was badly stained, throughout our visit.Dinner was interesting, my wife was offered a drink, but I was not and requested this upon my wife being served hers. In the conservatory there were plenty of people with dogs, which is great for dog lovers, not so much for people who want a quiet evening. The dogs had a good old bark when we were half way through our meal! Not your idea of a quiet couples evening? The food was OK however, it is the first time I have had to drink a Gin and tonic with my starter, as we were rushed through, even though we arrived on time. The food was pricey for what it was. I am not looking for perfection, but there were a number of improvement areas. For example....We had a strawberry mille feuille each which was made with sponge, surely this should be flaky pastry? It was not to our liking. The seating in the lounge area looked very cramped, we had a seat effectively by the entrance to the dog area. This was preferable as alot of the seats looked so closely crammed together, they would not have been comfortable. In the morning, the toaster shot toast out the back, on to the floor! Breakfast was a bit overdone, but none the less filled the spot. The redeeming part was in the morning we were served by a very pleasant young man who we believe was the duty manager and he resolved matters like the toaster, very quickly and was very friendly and efficient. Overall it was a bit of bizarre experience, a bit like the eclectic decoration scheme.Overall poor value for money.

We ate here on the Sunday night whilst staying. The food was nice.... But at £35 (more if you selected certain courses) I would have expected a bit... Better!Certainly 2 Scallops as a starter (when paying a supplement) seems a bit stingy. The mains were fine and desert was ok.... But just "ok"

We had a suite which was really lovely, the views from our window was really lovely. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss,no smoked salmon on 2 of the 4 mornings bacon overcooked 2 morning and make your own toast with bread that had been cut too thinly. We decided to have dinner in the hotel the 1st night, the menu was limited and was a fixed price for 3 courses!! £30 My husband and I rarely eat 3 courses and assumed the bill would be adjusted but it wasn't . I was disappointed with my meal, needless to say we didn't eat there again

We also called for afternoon tea on 23rd march, our experience was not as positive as the previous review. The conservatory was very clean and the view was nice but there was no heating on. It was a very cold day and it was quite chilly inside. The main gripe however was the size and quality of the sandwiches. They were very poor and not good value for money compared to other afternoon teas. The scones were nice but the overall quality was below average.

Four of us had a meal on a Saturday evening, arriving within a couple of minutes of our 'booked' time. We were greeted in a very cheery manner by the staff and given the choice of going straight to the table or having a drink by the open fire, we chose the latter.Menus arrived, drinks order taken and served quickly. The first disappointing thing was the quite limited choice of the menu. There were approximately five choices for each course, with a set meal cost of £30 for three courses. My wife and I hadn't had an 'evening' meal at the Fell for some time so we were taken aback somewhat. When we asked one of the staff for the a la carte menu we were informed that we had it. We chose, ordered and were seated in relatively short space of time. The first course was excellent, as we've come to expect from the Fell. The mains did leave a little to be desired. My friend had asked for a glass of red wine to accompany his medium-rare steak. This didn't arrive and, after some considerable time, in which half his meal had been eaten, I had to go to the bar and find out where it was. His steak, although meeting the 'medium-rare' criteria, was quite blackened on the outside and, in his own words, "quite bitter".My pork and scotch egg were perfect but I found the accompanying cassoulet to be far too salty. The other two meals were well received. The evening was in celebration of a birthday. When I booked I was told that the chef was able to make a cake for us so I ordered anything with sponge and fresh cream but no chocolate. The cake duly arrived, candles lit, with appropriate greetings piped on it but loads of chocolate 'icing'! still the cake tasted lovely, with the exception of the chocky bits. There was also a bit of poor communication between the staff as we offered the cake to any of the diners who would like a slice, via one member of staff, only for another one to collect it, wrap it up, then give it us back to take home.Overall, we were treated well, food (with a couple of exceptions ) was very good, service excellent to start then lacked somewhat and Helen was a star.

I bought a groupon voucher for afternoon tea with my mum. It really was worth every penny. Lovely fresh sandwiches, gorgeous homemade scones which were still warm and a good selection of mini desserts. The only slight downside was that the tea was in a pot with a bag - it would have been nice to have been given a strainer and proper tea. The table was in the conservatory at the front with a fab view over Burnsall and luckily the weather was fab too.

The restaurant has tasteful contemporary decor, has an amazing view over the valley and serves a good Sunday roast but the operation is a little amateur. Getting the wine list wasn't automatic, drinks took ages to arrive when there was only one other table occupied, and ordering food was slow. There seemed to be 2 staff covering the restaurant, bar and hotel reception which didn't work. I rarely comment on price because generally if food is expensive it, or some other aspect of the experience, is very good. That didn't ring true here. I felt that the lunch was expensive for what it was an average experience. They need to get a bit slicker to make it feel good value for money

We had booked an afternoon tea for two via Groupon and had booked so that we had it as a late lunch. From our first arriving on a quite miserable day, we were made to feel very welcome. We were quickly seated in the heated conservatory with extensive views over Wharfedale and the swollen river. Our drinks order was taken by the obliging staff and food and drink seemed to appear very soon after this. The sandwiches were plentiful and freshly made, the scones and the assortment of patisseries which made up the rest of the meal were very good.A pleasant experience which we hope to repeat in summer

Great to see that the Fell has restarted Sunday lunches. It's been some time since my wife, friends and I have managed a visit to a restaurant with probably the best views in the Yorkshire Dales. Oddly, it wasn't very busy even though it was the end of 'half-term' week and we arrived at peak lunch time ie 1pm. Food was excellent, (including a good selection of fresh vegetables ) service very good and staff efficient and friendly. Portion sizes were such that none of us had room for a sweet, so we stuck to the two courses and coffee. Lovely time enjoyed by all.

The setting is magnificent with gorgeous views over the dales. Upon our arrival we struggled a little to be acknowledged. After ordering drinks and sitting by a log fire we had to ask for a menu. We chose the Sunday Lunch menu at £25 each for 2 courses. We shared the starter which was disappointing, a couple of thin slices of cold roast vegetables and Feta cheese However, the roast beef (3 slices each and cooked pink) with goose fat roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud were the best we have eaten and more than plentiful. The pud we shared was ok. The service was unfriendly and no one asked us at any point if anything was satisfactory. We also had to ask for a wine list. At £25 a head plus 12.5% service charge which we were aware of as we've eaten here and also their Brasserie, but we didn't see stated on the menu, you would expect a little warmth and friendliness from the waiting staff. We left after paying without any acknowledgement... Perhaps it was because it was Valentines Day and they didn't really want to be working? We received an email the next day asking us for feedback of our visit, which I gave them and the opportunity of responding to my comments as mentioned here. As I didn't get a response I'm posting here so you can make up your own minds.

Best place to get an ice cream from, the owners of the boat Nick and Cath are so friendly, their hospitality towards both regular customers and visitors alike to the Town is second to none. You can also buy tea and coffee along with your favourite chocolate bar. Also don't forget Roo she's a lovely little pooch. You know Spring has arrived when you see the tug with all the shutters up and the flag out.

Fantastic place. Roll with bacon and sausage was lovely. Really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I've been coming here on caving trips for 25 years and always either start or finish the day in Inglesport. Love it. The only thing I'd say... bring back the pints of tea!!! And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.
