The Bugle Inn in Winchester

We had booked the bugle for a weekend away having seen Chef Lenny on James Martin. We arrived Friday afternoon and checked into our room before popping back down for a quick beer, the bar and outside seating area were busy with a good atmosphere. By the time we came back down for our evening meal the whole place had a fantastic buzz and there was not a spare table! We were shown to our table and offered drinks before deciding on our dining choices, the food was clearly freshly made and both starters and mains were high end pub food. The rooms are a little tired but very comfortable and wanting for nothing, and whatever you asked for the staff were soon on hand. Breakfast is superb, having opted for granola with yoghurt followed by a full English nothing else was required during the day! Highly recommend the Bigle if you are in the area, we visited Winchester for the day via the local bus service which is a 2 minute walk from the pub We will be back

We met with friends for an excellent Sunday lunch. The service was excellent, efficient and friendly we all chose the roast lamb ( from Romsey) which was very tender and not over cooked. It came with roasties, parsnip, carrots and stuffing on the plate and a dish of cauliflower cheese and broccoli stems to share. All the food was beautifully presented. Puds looked good but we were too full

Excellent lunch. Very good food, ok wine list, great service, comfortable chairs (important for a leisurely lunch!), nice atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.

Gorgeous roasts with every element brilliant. Good service. Bit of a booking issue- there appear to be two websites, one of which says call to book. We phoned and booked a couple of days' ago, but when we turned up today they had no record of it. Luckily, they found us a table. No idea what happened there!

My friend and I come to The Bugle most months for a weekday lunch for several years now. We used to mix it up by visiting different places, but once we had tried The Bugle we were hooked. The food is great, and the service is good. The burger never disappoints. The car park is tight, but we just get there early.

Five of us enjoyed a fab dinner to celebrate my 65th birthday! There was one jerk chicken, and four of us had the huge Portland Lobsters, cooked to perfection with garlic butter, scrummy fries and a side salad. Washed down with the perfect wine accompaniment - Picpoul! Lively conversation around the table, helped by the friendly young staff and a buzzy Friday night atmosphere, completed a special evening. Highly recommended.

Absolutely terrific Restaurant/Pub. Staff are really friendly and will do anything they can to make sure you have a first class time. The menu has choices for all pallets (I actually had two starters instead of a main course because having been many times before ... they're huge!) After desert, if you want to try a cocktail the staff will do their best to make one for you, it's not a cocktail bar! Would I go again. ... As they say, does the Pope wear a silly hat? ... Absolutely I will.

My partner and I visited for lunch for my birthday and it was a nice treat. The service, which was two women, ran everything from the bar to food orders like a well-oiled machine. How they had time to stop and chat with us as well.. great service and so nice not see the usual group of minimum wage teenagers! Food was served quick, fresh, and hot. The menu isn’t huge, but what they do, they do really well. Looking forward to a return soon for dinner!

My husband and I stayed here for a night and also had dinner. The price we paid for a one night stay with breakfast included was very reasonable. We had the loveliest stay! The staff were all so lovely and welcoming, the room was perfect, had everything you needed and very clean. In the evening we had booked a table for dinner and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing! I had the belly pork and my husband had the burger. Both were cooked very well and generous portions. We couldn't complain at all! There was such a good vibe in the pub and it was busy, but not overwhelming noisy. You could choose what you wanted for breakfast (You had to place your order the day before) and there was a good variety of options. My husband and I both chose the full cooked breakfast. It was delicious and plentiful with toast and a hot drink and juice. We would both highly recommend this little place for a short stay. It was so nice and we were treated and looked after so well.

I’ve seen the owner Lenny on James Martins to show, I’ve been to the Fox in Crawley near Winchester and it was excellent, I have always wanted to come to The Bugle inn and I wasn’t disappointed. The service, staff, food and accommodation are all superb! This is a well organised local business. Went here for dinner Friday night. My 5yr old had the fish and chips, and that meal is the reason this review wasn’t 2*. The fish was cooked fantastically, and the batter was light and tasty. If we ever did go back I would have that. I had the Pork Belly, unfortunately sent it back. The Pork was very dry, the crackling cold and the mash potato was dry and tasteless. The Jus was rather watery. My Wife had the burger, feedback was it was ok.

Went for my mother in law’s birthday. Brilliant meal and amazing service, as always. New menu was lovely with some great options. I had the Peri Peri Poussin, others had the duo of lamb, pork belly and monk fish. All super tasty. We had the Sicilian white and even my Italian brother in law was very impressed. Terrible service today on Mother’s Day. Rude member of staff, Talking behind are back with another staff member. All over asking for a child’s pudding as only wanted something small to finish off. Avoid at all cost.

Having visitted the Fox many times, we were interested how good the Bugle was. Being retired we thought we would try the Prix Fixe menu. Excellent price and food was superb. Blown away. Was my Birthday so extra special. Staff excellent as well. Highly recommended. Chef cooked so not your normal pre prepared food. Five stars guys. Well done

Absolutely fantastic pub! Lara, Lorna together with the rest of their team are always attentive and nothing is ever a problem. Food is just exceptional, the mussels and fish dishes are restaurant quality, served beautifully and piping hot. The fixed price menu is incredible value for money - would highly recommend a visit to this place.

We ate for Saturday lunch and arrived with my Dad who has mobility issues. George and the staff were beyond welcoming and helped us navigate the right place, space and chairs for lunch. The light bites, trout tartare, Mussels and Pork Belly were exceptional. Thanks to George, Chef and Team for a brilliant afternoon. Careful to add service on top of your bill - apparently it’s only put on for tables of 5 or more. Luckily we spotted it and managed to give well deserved tips!! Recommend going in early for lunch, as although the pub remains open, good service stops at 2pm-ish and reopens again for the evening session.

my family and i attended the Bugle on Sunday lunchtime to celebrate my wife's birthday. four of us chose roast pork and two of the four received undercooked meat . the waitress was kind and dealt with this ok having referred to the manager who did not even approach us to apologise in person. we were offered a free desert for one which we accepted without making a fuss. however,the message here is as below:- 1/management can't leave it to front of house staff in these circumstances 2/the actual main course(es) should have not been charged 3/how and why are the kitchen staff sending out uncooked pork-that is just not acceptable

Super friendly and professional service from start to finish. I began with the mussels which were fabulous and my main was the monkfish, which also was beautiful. My wife had the lamb for main, and she really enjoyed it. Great restaurant, the only issue was parking....I would allow extra time to locate a spot in the small car park.

Last minute booking for a nights stay and so pleased we did! After a day shopping and exploring in Winchester we wanted somewhere nearby to stay overnight to have dinner and breakfast, The Bugle Inn stood out by far! Easy to find and free parking. Check in was quick and we were shown to our room which was above the bar and restaurant. The room was a good size, very comfortable, lovely bed and duvet, shower was super hot (needed given how cold it was outside). Dinner was amazing!!! I had the crab to start, bass for the main and the cheese board to finish, absolutely stuffed, also a great selection of beers, wine and spirits. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, fresh, hot, plentiful and set us up for our onward journey. The whole experience was only achieved by the amazing staff, they were all so efficient, helpful and attentive. The Bugle Inn is definitely worth a visit if you’re passing or make a special trip!👍🏻
