What can I say. Stunning location, traditional chocolate box village. Right opposite the village green, arrived to a cricket match and woke next morning to cows in a fenced off area on the same green. Small, friendly place with a warm welcome and quickly shown to our rooms. I noticed there was also a downstairs bedroom. Rooms were immaculate and modern, yet retained the charm and features of it's age. Lovely, huge comfy bed and good quality comfortable pillows. Beautiful modern bathroom with good quality fittings and a fabulous powerful shower. Bedding crisp and white. Towels could have been a bit softer. I travel with my own towel, but I did notice they felt very scratchy. Ate in the pub at night. Steak and Ale pie was homemade, plentiful and delicious. Fish and Chips, beautiful white fish and a very generous portion. Service good, friendly and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent. Quality was very good indeed. Local suppliers and cooked extremely well. Very tasty. Th pub has a beautiful beer garden at the rear. Again, a classic English Country scene and the surrounding area is scenic, very peaceful and lovely for a walk. Really can't find fault with anything at all. I simply cannot recommend this place enough. Nothing to complain about, go stay... you won't be disappointed.

I visited your gorgeous country pub on Friday 2nd when I walked from Bedale specifically to try The Buck, while there I enjoyed two pints of Mahi Tahi which were faultless and a plate of traditional scampi and chips which were delicious, sadly due to bad planning and organisation on my part I had to leave half of my chips in order to get the bus back to bedale however I fully intend to visit you again in future with the intention of staying for at least an hour.

The roast Sunday lunch here was superb - well cooked, generous portions and good value for money. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming and her staff did a great job too. The real ales were very well kept, and this beautifully furnished and decorated pub certainly deserves its recent CAMRA award ( “Country Pub of the Year” for the Harrogate & Ripon CAMRA region). While on holiday we had 2 meals at The Buck. On both times the meals were fantastic, well presented, very hot and good sized portions. On one occasion we had a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The steak was out of this world. Vicky and all the staff went out of there way to please and were excellent. Can highly recommend The Buck Inn. Thank you to all staff. Good home cooked food. Dogs welcome.

I came with a group of 14 (for a meal at 5pm). We were very impressed by the set-up - we had a room to ourselves with four tables arranged in a square (with space in the middle) and white table cloths. It made it feel special (like a wedding)! We had been asked to pre-order and the food arrived as soon as we sat down. Great organisation! The food was good and plentiful (a surplus of vegetables and potatoes). Everyone enjoyed the meal.

Visited whilst staying in the village, it was a bit of a last minute visit as the cooker wasn’t working in the cottage. To their credit it was getting late and it was obvious they squeezed us in on a Saturday night. We had one vegan in the party and there was one choice on the menu which wasn’t available, again to their credit the rustled something up. The food was ok and the service was ok and under the circumstances it got us out of a muddle.

My wife and I have just had a one week break in Yorkshire, staying just a few steps from The Buck Inn. After a long drive from Somerset we were happy to take the nearest option for our evening meal and we weren’t disappointed. Firstly this was just what you want from a typical English country pub. A good selection of ales, a warm welcome from the landlady and an excellent choice on the menu. It was clearly popular with the locals. As for the menu there was a mixture of standard pub fare such as fish and chips, scampi and gammon steaks but also some rather special options you would more expect in a quality restaurant. I opted for the red mullet with pancetta and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. Simply delicious. My wife had the special for that day, lamb whirl with black pudding mash. Where have you ever found that one before? Again delicious and luckily for me she was unable to finish it without my help. Six days later we returned for our final meal of the holiday and this time we both went for gammon steaks. These were super sized with two perfectly cooked fried eggs, peas and lovely chips. Finally great and friendly service from all the staff.

I have written a longer review of the Buck in the hotel section. What follows relates to food. The food is home-cooked traditional pub fare with a few nice twists such as massiman feather blade of beef with bok choy. I had lasagne on the first night, which was good. On the second night I had the steak and ale pie which surpassed my expectations. The shortcrust pie was about 2.5 inches high and 4 inches in diameter and was full of large pieces of well-cooked beef; it was delicious. You can eat you meal in the bar area or alternatively in separate eating areas.

Popped in for a simple, quick dinner. As locals we have used this pub a lot pre-lockdown and had some great food. However, this visit seriously disappointed. Gammon was anaemic, flavourless and swimming in water on my plate, burger bun was solid and inedible - possibly from over defrosting and then cremated. When asked if all was OK, we shared our views but the initial response from the kitchen staff was lack lustre. On settling the bill a similar conversation ensued and a £6 discount was applied to the bill - but did not really address the issue. Will definitely not be re-visiting or recommending to family and friends unless we can be assured of significant improvement in quality and approach.

We were looking for a lovely country pub with a nice light bites menu whilst travelling to Northumberland on A1. Booking was easy by phone and a warm welcome from the staff and regulars was met on arrival. The food choice was good and the service/ meal was great. So much so, when returning from our holiday, we booked again on the journey south. This time with two more family members and their well behaved dog in our party. Once again, a nice welcome from the staff and great value food served. All covid protocols in place. The pub is set opposite the village green and very peaceful indeed. Came here with my partner, place wasn't too busy with some locals sat in the bar area and nobody else in the dining area. Quick service, there was quite a delay with the main course however this was well communicated to us and we were offered free light bites while we waited which came quickly and were delicious. A great example of quality customer service - sometimes things don't run smoothly or as planned in the kitchen which can cause a delay, but its how the staff address and communicate this with the customer that leaves the impression, and that was done brilliantly in this instance so well done. Would definitely come again.

What superb choices we made.....clean plates all round after enjoying a super main course....the only downside was that we had no room for a pud!!! The restaurant has a village hall style with school chairs and tables. The menu looks good but the Rosemary grilled Chicken breast turned out to be a quarter chicken on the bone and hadn't seen any rosemary, it was overcooked, un-seasoned and dry. The service was very slow, drinks took along time and food was 40 mins before it came. If the prices reflected the standard and service it would be easier to swallow, but £12.50 for the chicken was very expensive. Our other guests had slightly overcooked gammon and cod which was cooked perfectly but served with a bland sauce.

We visited the Buck Inn for lunch. This was only the second time we have been out to eat post lockdown and I have to say we felt extremely safe. The pub has managed to keep going during the lockdown by providing meals and drinks for take-away. It has obviously had the support of the local community who, judging by the number of thank you cards, have been extremely grateful. We were welcomed warmly and shown out to the garden at the rear. The garden was exquisite and a haven of peace and tranquility. It was so soothing to sit and eat in such a calming place. The menu was not extensive but it was good quality with generous portions. The village is so pretty, with dwellings surrounding the village green on which there is a cricket pitch. Only in Englans could you find such a setting, almost out of a Jane Austen novel. We had a walk around the village after lunch and everyone appeared so friendly. We were even invited in to view someone's garden at the Old School House! If you are looking for a safe environment, with friendly service and good quality food in peaceful surroundings, then you could do no better than book a table at the Buck Inn. The Buck Inn turned out to be the perfect location to eat 6 days after England awakened from the COVID19 hospitality lockdown. The inn was very clean and staff well trained which gave us a huge amount of confidence for our first meal eating inside after lockdown. Our contact details were taken as soon as we entered and there was plenty of hand sanitiser to use. It’s funny as the normal things we would included on a trip advisor post I.e. quality of food and service we just took for granted as our focus was on COVID19 procedures. The food was excellent, we both had gammon & eggs. The service was attentive but not over bearing. All told a great experience and we would not hesitate to recommend a visit to the Buck Inn both in these strange times but also when the world returns to some form of normal, what ever that is.

However a dish of something sliced appeared and I asked what it was, the waitress said no idea! so I left that mystery. The dessert was supposed to be a fool again disappointed as it was custard with jam, another of the group also left it as they dont eat custard hence asking for the fool.Other guests eating with myself also had various problems with their dinners also.just too many to list.I can only say what I told my friends How dare they even charge for this!Yes I did pay as I did not want to cause embarrassment to others. Had a lovely meal here whilst staying in “The Swallow Lodge” for Xmas . Really friendly staff and locals. We had our puppy with us who was also allowed in . The garlic mushrooms on sour bread for starter was delicious followed by lasagne which was a bit hit .The steak and ale pie was also good .

We ate here twice on a weeks holiday to the area; our first night, the steak and ale pie for my husband and crunchy lemon coated chicken breast with salad and chips for me. The steak and ale pie had so much steak in it, really amazing flavour gravy, it was beautiful (I had to try some!). My meal was also lovely, the salad was huge and really colourful, not just a few scattered leaves and really good chips!

Food is great and always piping hot! The chef is willing to adapt his menu to an individuals taste and special options are provided to vegans etc. The environment is friendly and the accommodation is of high standard. This place is perfect for a quiet weekend get away. Keep an eye out for their music nights, they always go down a hoot.

A group of us were staying nearby at lindale holiday park but decided we fancied a pub meal out one evening. I'd read a few reviews and we decided to go to the Buck Inn, and I'm so glad we did! We had a really friendly welcome when we arrived and the fire was roaring. We ordered scampi, burgers and the pie - all were really good quality and very generous portions! We had a great evening and if we're ever up that way again I'd love to go back. It's definitely worth a visit! :)

I used to meet my Father here once a week for lunch over a period of 15 years. The Buck has been under new management fo 18 months or so and. It was a pleasure to go back. Unfortunately Father is no longer with us but he never liked change anyway, and talking of change what was good has been kept but decoration and tweaks to the menu add value. There is still an excellent range of real ales, and still the choice to eat in the dinning room or at your table in the bar. A roaring fire adds to the friendly welcome, and the banter from the locals was good entertainment. The meals were good with the lambs liver cooked to perfection, but please expect a bit of pink rather than dry rubber. The gammon was good with two tasty eggs and "proper" eggs. Parts of the gammon were a bit dry but certainly not enough to complain, and oh yes I would have. The Buck offers bed and breakfast and is thus a great springboard for visiting the Dales.Don't expect a crowd in fact on a Friday night it was quiet, so come on add to the numbers supporting this gem in the countryside of Godd's own county.

Come here quite a bit because the food is AMAZING although I can't bring myself to have anything other than their burgers! However, I've tried friends food and the steak is really tender too and no-one has said a bad word. This is now our go to place for bringing friends and family who come up to stay. Unfortunately though, me and the husband believe that the burgers have gotten smaller lately :(

I was staying here for 1 night and enjoyed 3 courses. The food is not only tasty but it is well presented and wholesome. The butternut squash with leeks was delicious and the apple cake was a delight to eat. I'm a vegetarian and I like to see a good sized plate of food that has not been drizzled with the latest chilli oil or tampered with because it is fashionable.

Meeting 'long lost' friends after many years we were pleasantly surprised to find The Buck alongside the village cricket ground in this small village. The landlady was welcoming and t eh pub grub food was excellent. We all left thinking we were lucky to have found such a place which one can describe as an old typical english pub with very pleasant staff.

Over visiting family and they took us to there favourite place, The Buck Inn. They raved about this place, and I know why, I had the salmon in a leek sauce, served with perfectly cooked new potatoes. It was delicious! I live in Canada and have salmon often, but this is one I would travel back to the UK for year after year.

Our previous visit was last June on steak night - Thursday. This time it was Friday and it was satisfying to have our initial view of the pub and its food confirmed. We could have eaten in the bar, which was convivial but we were at a round table and we like a bit more room so ate in the restaurant. Our starter was smoked salmon and prawns with salad and marie rose sauce- conventional but done very well with quality ingredients. Our mains were rib eye steak and grilled cod, both absolutely excellent with a side of their fabulous onion rings. No matter where you eat or how elaborate or adventurous the menu there can't be a better combination than fresh top quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented by a charming efficient waitress, and this is what the Buck Inn delivers.

A beautiful pub in a gorgeous setting. We were greeted by the landlord, and a nice open fire. As it is Winter time the pub was fairly quiet. The main bar was full of artefacts and information relating to the history of the pub and the area. The menu choice was simple but traditional. The food was piping hot, very tasty and there was plenty of it. The fish and chips were massive! The batter was light and the fish tasted completely fresh. If you're a lover of cheese then you should definitely choose the ploughmans lunch, a large assortment cheeses (local), homemade pickles and chutneys and hot crusty bread with lashings of creamy butter.Well worth going off the beaten track to find.

Went for Sunday lunch and had a jazz afternoon! I had roast beef and my wife the roast pork - both excellent! Really decent food and good atmosphere. There was a jazz band on in the other half of the pub which made for a really unusual Sunday dining experience -- in the positive sense.Nice, friendly staff as well as locals; all topped off by some good cask beers. I bet this is even more fab in the summer when there's a cricket match on just outside the front door!Really good experience.

Ate here last weekend, I ordered the Lasagne & my husband the Burger. My lasagne had next to no sauce - either tomato or cheese - and no seasoning. It was just mince meat with pasta. My husbands burger was tough enough to sole shoes!! I expressed my disappointment to the landlord whose only comment was that he coudln't understand my problem as the Lasagne is one of his top sellers. Not a response designed to inspire us to eat there again
