Really friendly staff great food

Ever popular Clifton Pub, one of the 'go to' pubs for Clifton Locals. Good beer, and good service. Freindly and welcoming. The food which I have not trued is said to bd very good too.

The Brunel is a small and cheerful pub in Clifton. I went here when visiting the Clifton Suspension Bridge. It was very rowdy (in a good way) and the staff were charismatic.

Went in for a Sunday Lunch. The food was excellent. Delicious, very tasty, good portions and for less than £20. I recommend this venue. They always have a vegetarian option. We try to go each Sunday and often to the bar. The bar is always friendly and welcoming with a selection of drinks. We will see you there. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing pub with friendly staff. Perfect place for either a tasty evening meal or a few drinks. Leon served me and made my night. Will defiantly be returning.

Really enjoyed my time at the Brunel . The guy who served me (Leon was his name I think) was really attentive and his cheerfulness rubbed off on us and ensured we enjoyed ourselves to the max.

Always been a very popular pub amongst locals. However now in real need of a good deep clean and redecoration in all areas.

I had a lovely meal on the weekend. The mix it up plate is very good value for money and there is a range of variations and options that you can order. The staff were friendly and the food was quick. I will be back soon!

Service was swift and cheerful, food was still sizzling when it arrived. My father loved his curry immensely.

I used the toilet and was shocked at the apparent disgusting state it was in. When I had a word with the landlord, he told me he glued the seat down to stop people ripping off the seat and then told me I was having a go at him! A very poor selection of beer too. In a city of over ten breweries it’s disappointing to see not one represented and the only non-lager choices being Wadworths. Comments elsewhere suggest the landlord has an active dislike of real ale drinkers so maybe that explains the very limited choice.

We popped in for the Sunday roast and it blew our minds. Beef with horseradish and lots of veges...we couldn't resist getting the treacle cake dessert either. 10/10 brilliance...we highly recommend.

I asked for a beef burger that came with chips as a side, the chips were all burned, they look that they were in the deep fry for at least 5 times before they came to my plate. I paid 15.99 for this.

The place has never had a good deep clean. Tables and floor were disgusting, cannot imagine the kitchen. Food nothing to be excited about.

Roast tasted good but I was ill the next day.

Great place! Food is always awesome, cheap and massive portions. We live across the road so went over to try the new menu items and they were really good!. Went there last night and the lady serving was lovely!!! Very cute and sweet, I didn't catch her name but she had a star tattoo under her eye. We liked her alot. Xxx

Stopped for a quick drink this weekend. Lovely people and well kept beer. Clifton can be a bit of a desert especially in these strange times when it comes to pubs but this is highly recommended.

Sunday lunchtime'ish, it's horseing it down with rain so popped in with the Mutt's to see if we could get a Sunday roast until the monsoon went over. Bingo, table for 2, a pint of ale & 2 delicious dinners for the Good Lady & I. To be honest, I did'nt expect anything else, been here a number of times & it really is first class. Yep, there is nothing more to say but will be back, highly recommended.

I went here for Sunday lunch last weekend and I have to say, one of the best roast dinners I have had for a long time. The meat options were chicken, beef or lamb, plus there were also vegan and vegetarian options available. I went for the lamb- it was superbly cooked and it sat on top of glazed root vegetables, served with a big Yorkshire pudding and then they put a large board in the middle of our table with greens, cauli cheese and swede mash. Exceptional! There were 4 of us- a couple of us had beers and a couple of us had soft drinks and the bill came in at £50, very reasonable considering how good the food was, I just can't do it justice. The staff were very friendly and the chef came out to check that we were enjoying the fruits of his labor and we certainly were! It's not a huge place inside so I suspect that you might have to book or get there early as we are coming into winter but will certainly be back again next time I'm down in Bristol.

We recently had our second Sunday lunch here and it was absolutely delicious . Our family of 4 had the lamb, beef and chicken which were all equally first class . The vegan and vegetarian options sounded yummy as well . We did not see any other menu options except the roast but it ticked every box for us .The seating area inside is small but cosy with candles on the tables . The staff are very professional , welcoming and friendly which does makes the visit a real pleasure . Unfortunately they don’t take reservations but we saw they have steak nights in the week .

My modus operandi, order curry, find pub, have a pint, collect curry, take it home. Due to Covid, pub choices limited. Pre Covid I've always avoided the Brunel because of its in your face clientele. Well ! Any port in a storm so I've had occasion to use the pub ( sorry, wine bar ) ( sorry, gastropub ) twice recently. On the 1st occasion 6X on the 2nd Horizon, both beers beautifully presented and, for Clifton, very well priced. Ignore Toad of Toad Hall, challenge any preconceptions and give it a try.

Never been in Bristol before, but you have to go to this place!! Georgia and Liv are the most friendly, polite and outgoing girls I met. I was alone and they made me so comfortable. I had so much laugh. My orders was on point and quick and they still have time to talk to me.. Also they were following a the Covid-19 rules. Thanks for the lovely night ladies.

We took refuge here from storm Ciara yesterday, and enjoyed delicious fresh and reasonably priced Sunday roasts. Quiet relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff. Would certainly return next time we're in Clifton.

Super chilled pub with a warm welcome and great smiley service! Enjoyed a few drinks sat outside basking in the unseasonal but glorious sunshine and wish we could have stayed longer. Menu looked good - not at all pretentious and fairly priced. Will definitely be back to taste it.

On a very cold January day we got a warm welcome and a hot mug of mulled cider , returning the next night for more of the same. Very friendly staff and lovely beer, thanks for making 4 Geordies welcome.

In the midst of a four hour wander around Bristol we stopped at The Brunel for a pint or two. Looked good. Two fellows chatting at the pleasant bar. A lovely Hungarian Vizsla so, we know the place is bang on trend. Nice smile from the chap at the bar followed by "Sorry. Locals only today". As we wandered out my good lady observed it was just over 2000 years ago that Mary and Joseph felt much the same, in more pressing times. But, it looked a nice place. We'll never know. The Mall just up the road was terrific.

Great atmosphere and welcoming staff. Maybe only because its Xmas time but we got free roast potatoes and sausages with our drinks. First class!

A smallish and friendly bar, with a pleasant atmosphere. Unlike some of its noisy neighbours, this bar is a delight to visit with friendly staff and customers, at reasonable prices. Our only grumble was with the limited selection of bar snacks on offer! Otherwise, everything was great

One of the most unenjoyable Sunday roasts I ever had. Quite expensive for what you get too. We wanted to have a dessert as well but skipped it as we hated the food. Staff was friendly though and service was good.

This is a great bar. Mainly locals, but don't let that put you off. Its a great little bar with lots of characters and always a friendly inviting atmosphere. I hear they are starting a Tapas menu next week, looking forward to trying that. Definitely recommended.

This is a TARDIS of a pub with a small bar but plenty of room at the back. It is and has the feel of a local - even to those who just pop in whilst waiting for family to finish shopping! Dog friendly too.

enjoying a quiet drink with my wife last Saturday I unfortunately witnessed some extreme rudeness and bad language by a male bar person towards a small group of older gentleman who called in for a pint. Never again. We have advised all friends and family

And 1 star is too much after what I witnessed last night. A group of older men asked for 2 of their pints to be topped up and after a short exchange of words the landlord asked one of them to leave saying that he was refusing to serve him. His friends tried to find out why and the landlord told them he didn't want CAMRA C**TS in his pub. I was disgusted at his behaviour and I drank up and left. I would suggest CAMRA members give this pub a miss.

Wat een goed idee om hier binnen te stappen. Niet zo veel om te eten erg laat op de avond, maar wel erg veel te drinken en geweldige service van de briljante bediening. Veel vriendelijke locals komen hier ook en ze zijn erg vriendelijk voor mensen van buiten Clifton.

This looks dark and gloomy from the outside but the back room was warm and sunny. We couldn't understand why it wasn't busier. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the food was great. Prompt service and nicely presented. Good range of choices. We'll return!

Asistente de director nos dieron una cálida bienvenida e incluso nos sirven una bebida a la mesa cuando ella era bastante. Lovely fresh lunch sat in the sun, fresh tomato salad, bread and some calamari! Definitely recommended.

we had a wonderful traditional Sunday roast lunch at the Brunel Pub, amazing roast beef with roast potatoes and veg Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese. very large portions and all freshly cooked. the staff are very professional and excellent friendly customer service, thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Enjoyable Saturday afternoon sitting outside with a glass of wine between shopping Clifton's special village. Landlord & son plus locals very friendly & welcoming . 30 years since my last visit but the hospitality from shop owners & Brunel Bar will ensure we'll be back soon.

This place has many great memories and is still a fun place to pop into when in Clifton. It's full of locals who all know each other, there is plenty of colourful banter and the food is always fresh and well presented so what's not to like. Free half hour parking gives you time to order, find a real parking space and come back in time for the food to arrive. Tables are in fairly short supply so get there early or book. Outdoor tables are on the street and good for people watching but generally have smokers at them so not my choice. There was a Shaun the sheep in the garden opposite this weekend but I think they are all being collected this coming week.

We dropped in after a long walk in Clifton and Bristol and were tempted by the special lunch offer. We had delicious crab sandwiches served with fries and salad. We ate in the little back room with the skylight and it felt very cosy. Well recommended if you are in the Mall area.

Living near to Clifton Village, we pop into Brunel Wine Bar now and again for lunch or, sometimes, for evening drinks too. It's quite a traditional venue by modern standards and, as such, quite a refreshing change. It's not an enormous venue so not suited to large groups if you are thinking of turning up on spec. The lunches are attractively presented yet unpretentious and tasty, quite big and fairly priced. We had one of their burgers yesterday which was enormous and delicious and came with bacon and cheese on top, thin and slightly spicy chips and a lovely, colourful and freshly-made and very colourful assorted salad. Previously, we've had the home-made moussaka which came with roast potatoes and assorted veggies. Just what you need on a cold winter's lunchtime. Brunel Wine Bar does offer an assortment of wines and spirits and currently has on a very nice mulled cider. It IS a venue that is very popular with many very long standing locals who tend to congregate in the bar area and, as such, has quite a colourful (and really interesting) atmosphere much of the time. I do think it's a venue suited to adults in the main bar and outside seating area, although there is a smallish dining room up a couple of stairs and away from the bar so it is possible to dine/drink in a more sedate atmosphere if wished. When the weather is better and on a quiet day, it's sometimes nice to have a seat outside on the pavement and watch the World go. It is also where people go to smoke though and it can get a bit busy out there at peak times. Haven't tried Sunday lunch here yet but very keen to. I understand it's very popular so probably best to book in advance. Friendly and efficient family team of staff.

Great little pub in Clifton. (Not a wine bar as advertised ).My wife and I visited this pub last week and had a really nice lunch. The bartender was really friendly and offered us a lunch deal was I had not seen or asked for. We only had a sandwich each but these were great with nice cuts of meat. And sells peroni! !We are not local to here but would visit again.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at this venue. We both had roast beef with all the trimmings. It came piping hot and was freshly cooked with fresh vegetables. The venue is quite small but we were lucky enough to get a table for two, we waited for about 35 minutes for our food, but this was explained to us and the lunch was certainly worth the wait. We felt quite lucky to have found a table and will be returning although we would try and book next time if possible to avoid disappointment. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.

Siamo entrati in questo pub quasi per caso. Abbiamo preso l'arrosto del giorno ed era semplicemente perfetto e gustoso. Anche molto economico; la quantità di cibo che ci hanno servito abbiamo pagato pochissimo. Sicuramente ci ritorneremo.

A colleague and I ate in here while on business. The food selection was fairly limited. I had the BBQ chicken and my colleague had the Burger. Both dishes were tasty, my chicken was well cooked with plenty of taste and very succulent. The only downside for both of us was the fries were tasteless and cold. One word of warning, the locals who drank in here in the evening used some pretty bad language. We saw them in there most evenings as we walked past and most days too. They were friendly enough but maybe worth considering before taking any kids in. Would go again for the novelty value

Four of us went in for early evening meal, the smoked bbq ribs and chicken were to die for. The hand cut fries were sprinkled with either paprika or cayenne or something, but fantastic! Gonna go back and try rest of menu.Richard C. Redland.

I have visited a handful of times but not eaten until a few weeks ago, I had the sunday roast and it was fantastic! I then popped in last and all I can say is the pulled pork nachos are to die for- Highly recommend the food!

Good food, interesting space. The tapas is very good and very good value, seems to create a framework for the kitchen to experiment whilst still keeping the same menu - I've always been impressed with the taste combinations There's not a large seating area but it's pleasantly cosy yet quite sophisticated. The bar isn't large so you need to be patient when they're busy.

Whilst visiting Bristol a few weeks ago a group of friends and I booked a table for food on friday night. Despite the front bar being packed full we received excellent table service from the two young bar staff and even the manager came over to attend to us. We had a large selection of the very reasonably priced tapas and a couple had items from the chargrill menu. Food arrived promptly and was delicious, after the meal we stayed for the live music. All in all one of the most reasonable and atmospheric places we visited in Clifton.

The staff are rude, The younger bar maid who works there got irate when we ordered a drink, she asked myself and 5 friends not to be trouble, considering 3 of us work in finance and the other 2 where doing there law conversion masters and mature students I really didn't see the need. We were then asked to leave for no reason, shortly after as we left the young bar maid decided it would be a good idea to threaten one of us, as you can see a great night out, with all the class associated with it. If you want to drink at a place where the staff and customers are as cheap as their badly poured pints then this is the place for you. I would strongly advise from going here, the staff are awful, I honestly don't know how this place is in Clifton....... It is a mark on the rest of the village. Sad really but luckily there are plenty of other bars.

Very good food at a reasonable price. We paid £20 and got 7 plates of tapas, all were delicious! Although the bar area was very busy the restaurant area was quiet and relaxed. The service was great, they were happy to make a pudding up for us even though they normally don't serve them on a Saturday night. Beer is usual for clifton, £4.20 for a pint of Peroni.The location is brilliant, an easy walk away from the Suspension Bridge. Thoroughly recommended! Don't be put off by the lack of website

I stay in bristol every couple of weeks and I would highly recommend this place. tapas excellent and very good value. Recent addition of grill for around nine pounds. rioja excellent. Only gripes. Only serve one measure of wine ie medium. Barmaid could be more attentive - ask how your meal was. Maybe suggest a refill :-)If u like tasty food at a reasonable price go for it!
