I was taken to this Inn by my friend as he was going to meet a friend from Essex. A waiter guided us to a table and took orders for drinks. A menu was provided for each of us. I asked if there was any pensoner's portions. The waiter said, No. I noticed it was steak night and there was a meal priced £10 so I and the friend from Essex ordered it. Eventually the meal arrived and chips were included. The steak was 10cm long by 5cm wide andless then 5mm thick. It was smothered in a large amount of tasty salad. The chips were served in a shallow, oval dish about 25cm by 15cm. I took a dozen chips, about one third of the area on the dish. I decided to order a dessert bread and butter pudding with custard. When the dessert arrived it was 5cm by 3cm. This meal cost around £21. I have dined out from the 1970s to date and this expensive meal, although very tasty, was the smallest and most expensive I have ever had in the UK. Highway robbery.

Nice pub. Good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Beer was good. I ordered ham, salad and chips and my wife had chicken Kiev, salad and chips. The chips come as a shared plate for both of us. The chips were really dark, partially burnt at the edges AND really soggy and greasy. They weren't nice at all. If you're a restaurant and can't cook chips then maybe give up? The meat of the chicken Kiev was dry. The items they didn't have to cook were fine - salad and cold ham. It's very apparent, even to someone who has no catering experience at all (me) that the menu is far too big. My advice is to cut the menu by 80% of its current size and just concentrate on cooking the smaller menu and cooking it well. This could be a fantastic place with beautiful, delicious food with a little effort. I can't recommend the food but go for a drink and a packet of crisps and you'll be fine.

Went today for Sunday lunch with friends (party of 6) having made the booking last time we were there a few weeks ago (when the service was mediocre but not too bad). It was a 12.30 booking and whilst there were some tables were occupied already it was far from busy. Initially, drinks arrived quickly and order taken promptly. Even the starters arrived quickly and were excellent. And then things god worse. All of our party ordered the Sunday roast - easy peasy for any eatery - but after an hour and a quarter I had to enquire where the main course was. It arrived about 15 minutes later and apart from the fact that pork had been applied VERY sparingly to one plate (two small slices concealed under a Yorkshire Pudding), which was quickly addressed, all was good. Everything well cooked and really tasty. Then it got worse again. The plates were eventually cleared and a dessert menu procured. And we waited, and waited, and waited. To be fair, everyone else was waiting as well and the place had got quite busy. But we waited, and waited some more, and then, after two hours and forty five minutes, we got bored with waiting and asked for the bill, stressing that we would have ordered desserts but it was too late by this time. I went to pay the bill and asked to speak to the Manager. It transpired that the young lad who had been serving was (allegedly) in charge, although I do find it hard to believe that someone we thought was a 'weekend waiter' would be the most senior on the premises. He trotted out that well used phrase - 'sorry, short staffed' which I am afraid doesn't really wash. Clearly, they have been delighted to secure lots of nice profitable bookings whilst not securing the staff to service them. To be fair, the waiting staff were coping quite well but if the restaurant doesn't have the staff to service the customers, don't take as many bookings. Simple. Anyway, that was all he said, no other excuse or appeasement so, I am afraid that whilst what we had was good, and was great value, we will not be darkening the doors of the Brownlow in future. There are plenty of other places equally good who don't keep me waiting until tea time for lunch

If I could give no stars I would. Started off taking around 30 minutes to take our food order, then waited around an hour and a half to two hours for food to come out. Was extremely busy so slightly understandable but finally when the food arrived it was a disgrace. Medium well steak was blue, a good vet could have brought it back to life. Then further found a sticker in the steak... how they managed to get that in there I will never know. Then to top it all off they ran out of chips so we only got 2 portions worth for 5 people, and they gave us vegetables instead. And then refused to knock any money off apart from one of the chips that we were missing. Don’t recommend and will not be going back.

First time back here since the lockdown and couldn’t wait to get my teeth into the steak and kidney pie, still the best pie I’ve ever had.

Food was full of flavour however there wasn't enough of it in our opinion but think they've gone for more quality over quantity, all courses were slow to come out but appreciate it being busy as a popular place.

On holiday this pub/restaurant was our "local." We ate there three times and no complaints whatsoever re the service or the standard of the food. If I had to grumble I would say that for us (Senior citizens) there was a bit too much food. The Sunday Lunch (better to book for this) was the best Sunday lunch we have eaten (apart from home cooked!) in a very long time in many places. I noticed that some people had given this place bad reviews. At no time did we find anything to complain about.

If you take the next left turn after Mainsgill on the A66 towards the Lakes, and carry on down the lane , through Ravensworth village, you'll come to the best farm shop cafe around. Great food, great friendly staff and easy to find location and parking. STONEYGATE CAFE & FARM SHOP. Whether for breakfast, lunch, brunch or even drive through takeaway you'll not be disappointed there. The all day breakfast will set you up for the day and I can personally recommend the french toast with crispy local back bacon and maple syrup. The burgers are grand too, as is the Sunday roast. All in all, you can't fail to be impressed. (For people reading this in the local area - please support a great local business and use the farm shop if not the cafe as well...you won't be disappointed. )

Popped in for a drink only. Nice pub with lots of quotes from kings and Queens of England as decor along with paintings.

Arrived at 16.35 on Bank Holiday Monday. I asked if they were still serving as a large section was not in use, they had cleared and moved chairs away from and area and were in the process of cleaning the coffee machine. A young girl said we close at 5pm, no smile, no hello. She was not happy when we ordered 2 coffees and sat down. At 16.55 she appeared over my shoulder and said "we close in 5 minutes" I replied yes I am aware of that and had not forgotten that we have been a great inconvenience to you!!! She then went outside to collect the A frame in puffing if her vape. Wrong person to work in a coffee house in a customer service job. Obviously didn't want to he there. Very rude no manners.
