Whilst the Brook's main dishes consist of battered and fried chicken and fish replacements from the asian supermarket (by the brand TKC, see pictures attached), the owner Thea - a miserably failed country singer- is literally one of the most passive aggressive, arrogant, evil, ungrateful and patronising employers I have ever had. 0 capability to own a business or take any responsibility or accountability, ever. As a vegan herself, it seems quite pretentious to brand yourself as someone who's nice to animals but a total bully to humans/ employees. This place looks closed for now and seems to have gotten what it deserved. Rebranding an already existing, asian product as your own, simply does sit not well with me and shouts peak of white entitlement.

AFTER 2 TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTING VISITS I WILL NOT BE RETURNING :( (So, I used to be a very loyal customer of The Brook before its temporary closure, and was probably was of it's biggest champions. However, the re-opened restaurant I would AVOID AT ALL COST!) To summarise: FOOD: Leaves you still hungry (even when having 3 courses and drinks) Not as advertised in photo - VERY different Some dishes do not even match up to what they're called on the menu i.e. the "creme brulee" is just a VERY shallow dish of condensed milk with no sugar crust Certain dishes always "sold out" but staff never disclose at the beginning Vastly differing quantities and proportions across different dishes Overpriced for what you get - £12 for half a boiled cauliflower and packet of plain quinoa Disappointing in appearance, quantity, seasoning, texture Poor dessert options - might as well not bother even having it MENU: Not as advertised on social media or site, every visit multiple dishes are not available, menu was changed to tapas menu without any notice, no options for ordering sides. SERVICE: Bookings seem to count for nothing., no areas are reserved for bookings and staff act like it's a surprise when you show up for a booking. Staff are all forgetful, don't seem to be in the know yet over-sell the quality of dishes and are quite pushy. Staff are not attentive unless it's to ask you if you want to order more. Manager is VERY pushy and has a bad attitude with customers who decline spending more money by getting more drinks/courses. Manager also strongly recommended 6 tapas between 2, but we couldn't even finish 3 between us (partly because we didn't want to). VENUE: Upstairs is very nice, decor is great, amazing rock/indie music playlist (if, like me, you like those genres), but heating is practically non-existent downstairs and the tiny space heater turned off half way through our meal. After my first AWFUL visit, I returned to give it another shot at redeeming itself but it was equally as terrible, if not, almost worse! We would have complained both times in person but the manager is so passive aggressive that it was uncomfortable enough to say you wouldn't be ordering more things after you finished your meal, that we felt like we couldn't say anything negative. INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING BOTH TIMES. WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

I can't praise this place highly enough. Top class service, delicious food (I'm not vegan but their menu has some of the tastiest food I've tried - OMG the desserts!), and so very friendly - The Brook has a real community spirit and has developed into a wonderful place to eat, drink, celebrate and relax. The people make it what it is - I'm a huge fan of what they've done here and wish them every success!

We went here with a coulpe of friends on Nov 17th. Place is tucked away from hussle and bussel. It is small but very cosy. Staff are friendly although service slow. Food was so delicious. We had the pakoras for starters and mains beetroot burger and buddha bowl. Both were beautifully presented and flavoursome. I am going back there on the 29th for a girly evening out. Hoping tbis time the service will be a bit quicker.

Tried the autumn menu this time at the brook. To keep it short , the pakoras are lovely (a bit more seasoning I would advise but the sauces make up for it) but too small considering the price of the dish & how cheap they are to make. Liked the new Buddha bowl & dessert is good. Pumpkin crostini toppings are nice but I think how it’s served could be improved. I’m a regular and after a few visits which myself and my partner have agreed is that for the price the service isn’t up to scratch. We were told food would be a while & it was really long & we weren’t asked did we want more water, drinks or desserts in the waiting time (we were dying to get home by the time we could get someone to order a dessert & I had to keep looking for someone to get a glass of water). I feel like considering the recent redesign they should be able to make it that both the kitchen and staff can handle the number of tables, especially on a week night. Our bill was £70 and I think spending that you want to feel you are both looked after in addition to having good food so I would like to see that improve ! That being said the staff are very friendly, maybe a bit more training is needed to give that extra bit of care.

I went with my sister on burger Tuesday and it was great. The food is good but the service was a little slow, as was the food, but they were busy. I'd rather wait and have the brook busy than not as it's a great place and I'm keen it stays! The cocktails are great and the delay gave us more cocktail time! Burgers were good and I'm glad to see a vegan restaurant doing so well in Wallington.

After driving by this place on a regular basis, my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go.We went on the night where they were serving cocktails for £5, and the cocktails on this offer changed every half an hour. This was brilliant as it was the perfect opportunity to try new drinks that perhaps you wouldn't otherwise try when paying the full amount. The cakes tasted great too!The atmosphere is very chic and cosy. Despite being rather small, once inside it was very easy to lose track of where you were and become immersed in an environment with candles, low-level lighting and pleasant music to take you away from Wallington. The only thing I would change is the closing time, which was 11.30pm. Other than that, a real gem which we will return to in the future.Thank you for a great evening.

I loved the music aspect at the brook, the chance for new acts to have a stage is great. The Brook is a concept which just does too many things, music, a bar and a Vegan restaurant. In theory the it seems like a breath of fresh air and i was excited to be among a few potential long hairs and 'in' voters. Unfortuanalely the food is pretty ordinary and both food and drink are overpriced. I have tried the Potato curry and the Buddha bowl. The bar staff were friendly but run off there feet. I Will have to have a lot of persuasion to eat there again.

my daughter had recently become a vegan and so we were recommended this place by a friend, we had the dipping platter as a starter to share which was very nice but a rip off price at 8 quid for a few bits of bread, olive oil and hummus, for my main i chose spinach and mushroom lasagna which was bland, tasteless and hardly could find any trace of either mushroom or spinach. it was served with a bit of limp veg again without seasoning.the juices are massively over priced, this place is in Wallington not Kensington! we were served by a girl whose skirt was tiny and not appropriate dress for waiting staff in my opinion, am not sure where all the positive reviews are from on here as they cant have gone to the same place i did. very pretentious and overpriced. needless to say i wont be going back in a hurry!

Visited with friends, none of which are vegan and only one was vegetarian. Good gluten free options. All totally awed by the quality of the food and how filling everything is. Very big portions!I had the Satay to start followed by the Beet burger - both fantastic tastes, presentation and quality. We also shared the dipping board between us. Best dipping board ever! Vegetables so fresh and flavoursome and I loved the humus. The restaurant is upstairs and is newly refurbished and the atmosphere is perfect for both couples, groups of friends and families. Staff are very attentive and friendly and seem to love working there. We reserved the booth which was perfect for a group of friends. The cocktails are innovative and excellent fun and can easily be made non-alcoholic without losing any of their charm. The venue is more than a restaurant though: there is a bar downstairs and also an events space and lots of live music events. We were there on a Thursday when they hold 'Open Mike' night which is definitely worth going to.Fabulous experience.

My colleague and I were in the area for business, and after a quick google search for local vegan restaurants, soon found The Brook. I am not vegan (my colleague is), but am always open to trying new things so happily went along. I must say we had an absolutely exquisite experience. The food, the decor, the cocktails, the staff... all absolutely faultless. We visited last night for dinner, and were so impressed we went back this morning for breakfast! Last night I tried the seitan burger and chips ,with a 'Jerry Lee Lewis cocktail', and finished off with brownie and ice cream. This morning I had the sausage sandwich and a smoothie. As a typical ignorant non-vegan, I was absolutely astounded at the quality of the food. It was all absolutely divine, the best meal out I have had in a long time!Working in music we were also impressed by the vibrant programme of events that were held there- we just only wished we lived nearer so we could visit all the time!Thank you for being so wonderful at what you do xx

Having had coffe here I was invited to dinner upstairs at the new.y opened restaurant. Where has this chef been all my life. The food is tasty and scrumptious. There isn't too much choice but it stops them falling into the old trap of jack of all trades and masters of none scenario. I like it lots. The beefToroot burger looked and tasted great whilst the curry was delicious. The sharing platter is so apetitsing I just wanted more. The only down side I would say is the drinks are steep in price and I. This hot weather it needs to be cooler upstairs as the temperature is ridulously high and if you have an underlying condition it does feel incredibly uncomfortable. Toilet, you definitely need one but it position isn't brilliant for the person using it or the people placed right by it.

Tonight I was made to feel like a complete drunk. I have 3 kids who have to be ready for school/work tomorrow so I know my limits. I am 43 years old but was made to feel like a complete drunk/ idiot / out of control person in front of my work colleagues tonight. We were out for our vegans teachers leaving party. Yes I had had a couple of drinks ... Yes I was in high spirits .. but I never expected to feel like I was an out of control person that the staff in the Brook made me feel. I was humiliated in front of my work colleagues and told that if I had another drink everyone would be kicked out . I left with my brother and his girlfriend in tears. . my work colleagues after about an hour asked me to return when I did a member of staff sat at our table pointing me out saying I wasn't to be served . I have never in my 43 years ever been treated like that .. I am disgusted by the way I was treated .. . I will never and will never show my face on that place again. Don't sell alcohol if you don't want people to have a drink and enjoy themselves ... I say again I have never been treated in such a condescending way ...

Love this place really close to my house. Had dinner after wallington music festival, fantastic music & atmosphere. Really enjoyed the satay skewers & nachos to start. My other half enjoyed the burger & the katsu bowl was nice, maybe the corn & beansprouts would be nicer lightly sautéed & a bit more sauce but good overall !! Waitress was very nice , only criticism was that we got no water top ups but I just went to get it. Overall really enjoyable & will be back a lot im sure. Had been before it reopened for brunch too & it was amazing! However my favourite sweet potato hash & their home made baked beans is now MIA from the menu

Having enjoyed my first visit, I returned specifically to sample the desserts. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. I asked if I could have a half portion of the only 2 desserts on offer but was told that wasn't possible. So I chose the brownie & caramel ice cream. Costing £6 I expected something quite spectacular. What came was ridiculously small & plain. Served on a small oblong saucer, on one side was a small square of brownie, on the other side a small scoop of ice cream. Not worth the special visit, definitely not worth £6, maybe £2 if that.Yes, tasty but a not a dessert.

I've stopped here a couple of times and on both occasions I left still hungry! The food is pretty good - nothing amazing - but the portions are pretty measly considering the price. I would rather they added a couple of pounds more to the dishes and served much larger portions. And I'm not someone with a huge appetite, I'm actually pretty skinny, so it's not like I'm sitting down expecting to be served 1500 calories in one meal or something. On the positive side the music on the stereo was awesome and the vibe of the place in general is also really nice and I like the great amount of events and artistic things they also put on here. If they fixed the stingey portions this would be one of my favorite places to eat.

Friend of mine gave me a voucher for the newly refurbished "The Brook". Fab! Such a novelty to choose from 100% vegan menu - even all the cocktails, spirits etc are all vegan! Went for a late lunch, the waitress still refreshingly bubbly at the end of her busy shift. Nothing was too much trouble. Negatives: (being picky) Room was quite hot; not a fan of meal on wooden boards; portions could've been bigger; small table; some options only available after 6pm.Positives: (so many!) meal was delicious; service was fantastic; comfortable seats; very clean toilets; very friendly staff, excellent variety of dishes & drinks.I'm definitely making this venue a regular haunt as there is nothing even approaching this quality of vegan fayre outside Brighton/central London.

In the last few days the The Brook restaurant and recording studio in Manor Road, Wallington has re-opened following a major expansion effort as a totally vegan venue. We visited last night and were very impressed with all aspect of the venue, the food and the excellent, friendly service.Very sensibly, with everything being new, they had a notice on every table apologising in advance if, at this stage, everything is not perfect, however, for us there were no visible hitches or glitches and we enjoyed a brilliant vegan meal in the new upper dining area, served by the efficient and cheerful, Beth.Without going into masses of detail, (I think you can check out more on their website), as starters we had the french onion soup and the satay skewers. We then had the brook beet burger - brilliant - and the katsu buddha bowl. After a good break we finished off with the vegan banoffee pie and the lemon panacotta. We are not a vegan couple but we were just intrigued to see what Andy and Thea, the proprietors and their staff had done. It is just fantastic. However, do be warned, it is not a huge venue and we are certain that before very long, vegan or not, you may have to book ahead to get a table.

I have been frequenting this charming establishment since it opened and have seen many developments - it has finally come of age and defined itself as a uniquely cool vegan bar and kitchen. I went to the opening night and was stunned by the refurbishment upstairs. The interior design is beautiful and the ambiance friendly and bustling. The menu in my opinion, has something to suit everyone (assuming that if you're coming to a vegan restaurant you are vaguely open-minded). I had the buffalo cauliflower which was tasty with a spicy zing. The main course portions were generous and the meals well thought-out. I could drink a thousand of the espresso martinis if my constitution would allow. It is a gem of a place and with a little refinement and tweaking of recipes and pricing could be a true star shining brightly for the culinary movement.

There are so many different activities going on every week/month; gigs, Open Mics, really friendly Ukulele group/lessons, choir - there's plenty to choose from. There's also plenty to choose from on the menu, as they provide for omnivores, vegetarians, vegans and people wishing to avoid gluten. There's a small step into the front cafe area and a further step to get into the back room, which isn't ideal for people with mobility issues and the toilets are very small, so I don't think it's entirely suitable for a wheelchair user visiting alone, but I'm sure if anybody contacted them in advance they'd be happy to assist.I'd go again.

We came in and considering we hadn't been before so didn't know if there was extra sitting in the back or if there was an upstairs part. We were left there and nobody asked if we needed any help. After a few minutes wait we had to ask. Pancakes are nice but with that bit of customer service things could have been a lot better as half of the party I was with were not impressed which spoilt the experience for them

We use The Brook studio, which is awesome in itself, but to have the cafe on hand while we are working is such a bonus. The staff is friendly, helpful and skilled, the food is outstanding and the coffee is perfect. Everything about this place is great and it continues to sustain us during long days recording. Lucky you if you have it as a local eating place.

Not sure what has happened to the lunch menu. Have been a few times before and it was a lovely v quirky little place with some great comfort food options. The menu has changed for the worse - still a lovely, quirky little place but not much left in terms of the comfort food options. Nice cocktails but £30 for 2 cocktails and two sausage hot-pots seemed a bit steep. Oh well have to revert to my usual in future.

The venue is different in a nice way and cosy, however when I visited today with a friend ( and having been there before) and we sat and waited around 5 minutes, no one told us we had to order at the bar. The two previous occasions I was there, service was at the table. The waitress saw us walking in and came close but didn't acknowledged us or made us aware of ordering at the till. After we ordered a light snack and a cake, we were told we could help ourselves for the cake. Call me old fashioned, but I really found this a bit odd as the cakes were stuck together and I tried so hard not to use my hands to touch the other cake. Someone else may have already touched the cake I ate. If the staff there served the cakes themselves, it would be more hygenic. No one came again afterwards to see if we were ok or if we needed anything else. The food is also pricey for what you get. If you want clients to return, please work at giving good customer service!

Mainly a shabby-chic-esque coffee shop, now has an evening bar (and hence not open very early in the morning). Serves excellent coffee and light meals. Yes it is small but adds to the appeal; has background music sometimes, but a relaxed atmosphere. They do concerts, film nights and other stuff (they have a back room). NIce people. Be really good to see more independent places like this; they are sometimes far and between in this part of S London!

Although I've not experienced any of the "behind the scenes" activities at the Brook, I have been to the front of house coffee shop several times and it really is a little jewel in a slightly off the beaten track part of Wallington. Seating is quite limited but I like the mixture of armchairs, high stools and more regular chairs as they make good use of the available space. Service is friendly, the coffee is really good (I especially like the way they serve it really hot!) and the musical mix interesting - ranging, this morning, from Johnny Cash via Oasis through Florence and the Machine. We had superb scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast and look forward to our next visit.

Loving The Brook! We used to pop in occasionally for delish caramel latte and cake and the odd leisurely eve of alcoholic mellowness in the rather comfy granddad chairs but over the summer we have embraced hot food (animal and veg) and the rather fun open mic nights too. The embracing will extend to this season and all subsequent ones too. We now know names and faces and each visit is like popping down the road to a welcoming community. There's so much going on there. Even if it's quiet out front, there could be fun stuff going on in the back or you can just enjoy a chat with the friendly owners, staff and talented regulars. It's like a cosy, funky, eclectic, modern version of what a village hall used to be all about... but with alcohol!

We hired the cinema and had a really great evening! The food (chilli plus generous amounts of sides!) was excellent. The small cinema space has a lovely atmosphere and was perfect for our group. The staff were super helpful and accommodating too! A really, really lovely night! If you're looking for a twist on the usual party/social venue I highly recommend the cinema hire (plus meal) as the perfect night out with friends!

Love this place. Such atmosphere and so much more than a coffee shop. A real place to lose yourself and maybe try out something new (books, yoga and arts and crafts). A bar at night and lovely healthy breakfasts by day. Great music too, an absolute gem.

I frequent The Brook often! It is my go-to place for a chat with the friendly staff, an excellent cup of coffee and any of the delicious dishes that contain pulled pork. It is a real hub of the community offering much more than just a snack and a drink.

I was recently staying in Wallington and visited The Brook a couple of times. On Sunday nights they host 'Open Mic Night', great fun and a wonderful mix of performers including the very talented owners who encourage their customers with empathy and support. The coffee is some of the best I've had in any coffee shop and the scrambled eggs with bacon was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the area.

Stumbled upon this diamond in the rough a little over half a year ago, without question one of the best cafe/bars in business. Full of passion for its customers, regardless of whether your after a coffee and tea during the day, or cocktails in the evening, the Brook provides. But much more than simply a bar, the true strength of what makes the Brook one of the best independent business in this area is the sheer variety of activities on offer. Depending on when you drop by, it may be a Cinema, or a music venue, or a community centre. There is a choir, a book club, a board game night even! The open mic night of Sunday night fame has reached legendary status, sourcing some of the greatest local talent in the area.Even if you just wish to pop in for tea and cake (which are all regularly baked by the staff, leaving a glorious smell of freshly baked cake in the air) it is a brilliant venue for a casual or business lunch. The food has never been less than delicious, with a great focus on fresh, quality ingredients making sure everything from the morning pancakes to the evening nachos tastes hearty, filling and scrumptious. Highly recommended.

A little bit too small and smelly with damp, a really fun and quirky place with an excellent community spirit and some great events like choirs, music and cinema events. The food and cocktails were excellent just such a shame it's was a bit stinky with damp. The decor is great and it's bigger than it looks from the outside but still small.

I've visited The Brook on a few occasions, mostly to meet friends for a drink and a catch up. This place has a unique atmosphere so much nicer than some of the rather sole-less chains that seem to be taking over London. The cakes and snacks are great, many interesting food combinations all really tasty. Staff are always delightful.Because the area is rather small it can seem a little rowdy at times so perhaps not the best place to bring your laptop to work - there is however free wi-fi.Looking forward to trying the Yoga class and Cinema when I find time.

Myself and my partner went to The Brook on the 21st November 2014, for our 5 year anniversary. It just so happens that we went on an open mic night (however we left before the bands started to play, as it was too crowded, even though we had a table.)The food was brilliant, to start we shared a portion of Pulled Pork Nachos, which were absolutely superb. The cheese and pork felt like it was melting in my mouth, I can honestly say I have not tasted Nachos this good anywhere else!As a main, I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was equally as tasty. The sandwich was really juicy, but the bread didn't get soggy which was great!Like I said above, we left early. The open mic night was late starting but it go quite packed in there, so we thought it was better to go somewhere quieter to spend our anniversary (however this is not a bad thing, I'd quite happily return on an open mic night!)

The Brook is a fantastic inspiring space that does snacks, full meals, coffee, live music, and elsewhere houses a cinema club and a recording studio. I continue to be blown away by the amount of activities they have going on. It's the sort of alternative haunt that you might find in Shoreditch or Brighton but I take my hat off to the team for choosing to open such an operation in Wallington.I hope it goes from strength to strength and I plan to make many many visits and keep coming back as long as they'll have me ;)

As Wallington becomes more generic year on year, The Brook offers a welcome change to the corporate smothering of small towns by the likes of Costa, Nero etc, with a quaint charm all of its own. Had driven past many times, telling myself I must pop in, and so an opportunity came. Having checked the website and the online menu, we went for a lovely midweek hang out.The menu's presented didn't match the online menu and had limited veggie options i.e. 1.Nevertheless, we ordered the pulled pork sandwich and vegetarian enchiladas. Both good, although the pulled pork sandwich seemed pricey for just a sandwich, would probably expect some kind of side with it. The music was touch too loud for an the chill atmosphere, asked to turn it down a touch and the staff were more than accommodating. Finished the night with a lovely slice of homemade carrot and ginger cake which was splendiferous. Will be back again.

Just popped in for a coffee to see what the place is like. Been past it often and always wanted to take a look. It is quite small with around half a dozen tables. There are tables and chairs outside. Coffee is nice and a good price. They have homemade cake too, we had rosemary and white chocolate, which was very nice. Again, the price is also about right. Music is played in the background but it isn't loud, just adds a bit of atmosphere. They seem to display art on the walls, when we went in there were plates and bowls from a ceramic artist that looked really nice. Old tables and chairs complete the look of a lived in café. You can also order food from a short menu and they sell alcohol. The place also has a small cinema, recording studio and performance area. Much better than your standard Starbucks, plus you'll know your money is going directly back into the local community.

We visit the Brook at least once a month for a drink and a snack. The food is always very tasty, served with a smile. The atmosphere friendly, relaxed and bit hippy. All summer they served different cocktails and it was always fun to try a new one. There are usually some exhibitions by local artists, music events or movies, so it's never boring.
