Having visited previous this visit was based on that, first visit wasn’t the best. We decided to return to give it another go. An order was placed for pancake stack and a breakfast. The coffee was served not over warm The pancakes were cold straight from the packet, a little golden syrup two minimum bacon rashers dry. £7.10 rip off . My large breakfast came along with one extra hash brown as I don’t eat eggs, despite the waitress saying extra tomato too. The ambience was like a busy junction lazy staff never dragging chairs and tables instead of lifting them, they weren’t heavy. I paid the bill the waitress asked for a tip pointing to the card machine. I resisted I can’t understand why. I won’t be returning to eat pap. There are many other bad reviews too not just us!

Awful. Busy and chaotic. Customer service poor. Not possible to book and then no organisation for those waiting. A good looking venue but sadly the customer experience is poor with limited ability to respond to customer need. We have been long time users of the broken egg but finally decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Luckily found a new venue less than 5 minutes away which was better across the board. With new competition the Broken Egg might have to finally consider upping their game. We will not be returning for a while.

Charges £0.30p for a small amount of hot water to make a baby bottle and £0.30p for a small amount of cold water to cool down a baby bottle absolutely shameful. Asked for “lightly” toasted toast for my sensory daughter to be given it like plasterboard when complained could tell they where puttering under there breath from behind. Second lot came Back fine however. BUT they had the cheek to give us that plasterboard toast on our breakfast toasted even more so it just crumbled. Sort it out charging for small amounts of water for a BABY bottle is outrageous never in my 11 years of motherhood has a place charged for water. Jokers lol

What a hidden gem, we only stopped for coffee as we wasn't very hungry . I visited last weekend and ordered the poached egg. This is what I recieved for a grand total of £5. When I questioned if they had confused the portion size with my small sons meal I was informed it was due to my choice of gluten free toast (which is offered as an option clearly in the menu). It had stated that it came with two eggs in the menu too but I was told that no there was no mistake.the matter was rectified and I was bought a second portion but I think maybe a menu/price rethink might be in order if you will be penalised for having a gluten free option. My sons order on the other hand was very very generous for a childrens option and we found the young staff very polite, though no direct apology from the lady who appeared to be in charge and no one returned to check table service. My families orders were much better but this inconsistency had made weary of visiting again. No one would be happy to pay £5 for this and to be told it's because I chose gluten free bread is outrageous

Four of us stopped here for lunch midweek. The menu is largely different types of breakfast/brunch dishes with some sandwiches and a few hot specials. Lasagne was the days special. We had three eggs benedict and an eggs benedict royale. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked although the portion of ham was a little on the meagre side. The decor is a bit spartan and you have to not mind a resident dog wandering around. Pleasant and attentive staff.

We had visited the broken egg once before and although my partners choice of scrambled eggs wasn’t great ( over cooked and lots of it ) my eggs benedict was lovely. On our second visit we both chose poached eggs on toast, a simple dish of soft runny eggs and toast?Sadly both our eggs were hard and with two slices of toast barely buttered it was a challenge to eat given it was so dry.We accepted it wasn’t great and quietly decided we probably wouldn’t be returning. However, as we were paying the lady taking our payment asked us if everything was ok with our meal, I mentioned we were a bit disappointed that the eggs were over cooked. Her reply was that next time we order poached eggs we should mention that we want them runny.... I may be a little presumptuous here but I assumed that runny eggs are a given when having poached eggs on toast?Sadly there was no apology and sadly we won’t be returning...

We three were met as we entered and were handed three menu's. We were then abandoned and found our own seats. Two of us choose stack of pancakes, Maple flavoured syrup and bacon. Our friend choose quiche, potatoes and salad. Three pancakes 1/2" thick x 4" wide and browned either side arrived on our plates with two small streaky bacon rashers thereon with a small jug of Maple Flavoured syrup. Very sparingly I was able to match small slices of streaky bacon with two of the overweight pancakes. The third pancake like the others soaked up the syrupy substance and was tasteless and boring. My friend ate the bacon and half of her pancakes. The quiche also was overcooked and the supposed salad was just a few leaves. The potatoes arrived later with apologies. At no time were we asked during our meal if everything was alright as one might expect. Although we mentioned to the waitress that we were unhappy with our pancake there was no concerned ear or even a hint of sadness that we had not enjoyed the meal and similarly on paying the bill the cashier could only praise the quality of the bread like bulky roundels and the acclaimed skill of the young man who had mixed them with his own hands. I understand that the Boss is on holiday in Croatia but the meal was below the standard expected and the attitude of staff, so important in the in the restaurant industry needs to be addressed.

Visited Harleston and passed The Broken Egg a few weeks ago and thought we would love to stop next time …….. so the next time was today and we arranged to meet up with family and their new puppy (dogs are welcome here). We were shown to our table and our youngest member of the party (6 years) was provided with a colouring mat and colour pens. I noticed that as we walked in there was some books for children to read as well. We all had something different off the menu and we all really enjoyed our food. Even 'Pennie' the puppy had a 'doggy ice cream' which went down well. The whole lunch was a lovely, relaxing time and the staff were very friendly and helpful, in fact I would say that they couldn't do enough for us. There is seating outside too and a fenced in garden. Walked from Needham for our first visit here today so we were hoping it was going to be worth the walk. It certainly was. The coffee was the best I have had in this area. We both enjoyed a light cooked breakfast which was not greasy and made with decent ingredients. The only thing we did think was that the toast could have been made with bread a bit more special than that of the Kingsmill variety. Aside from that the service was prompt and we would very much recommend.

The revamped outdoor area is lovely, especially for children, that’s a real plus point for the Broken Egg. Unfortunately, although reasonable, the food used to be much better. It was our opinion that the produce offered now (on a menu that hasn’t changed) is not of such a high quality (or quantity) as it used to be. Toast is now toasted sliced bread that you can buy from the supermarket- used to be from a white bloomer or granary loaf. Baked beans, well you don’t get many. Same goes for sautéed potatoes and vine tomatoes. We did enjoy the bacon which seemed great quality though. We will return as it’s a lovely place and hopefully this is just a one off experience.

Met by a very young man; with respect, too young and not enough experience to hold a comprehensive conversation with so thrust a couple of menus and pointed in to a general direction. We chose to sit outside, pleasant enough and amusing watching the goats. Settled on bacon sandwiches and a pot of tea which arrived shortly afterwards. Very disappointing, no rustic bread here! Your bog standard medium brown sliced with the most bland, over cooked bacon (would suggest it had been sitting around for a while). Silly really, should have sent it back, bordering inedible. When settling our bill we were asked about quality of food and we did mention the bacon but, you know, they shrug and don’t really know how to respond, far easier to just leave and never go back!!

Well, this is probably different from most people's reviews as we hired the Broken Egg for the day for my dads wake. Nathalie and her team could not have been more helpful when meeting before the day where we discussed food, music etc or the day before when I dropped some things off. The day itself although difficult was made much easier by an abundance of amazing food which was all homemade and I received lots of positive comments about the venue and quality of food and service we had. We had a gorgeous breakfast here this morning. Eggs Royal, succulent smoked salmon with heavenly hollandaise sauce on crisp fresh muffins cooked in front of us by the chef at the cooking area. However we had to wait ages for it. I don't mind that but it would be lovely to see a newspaper rack on a Sunday morning if we have to wait 40 minutes for the breakfast to arrive. I can talk the hind legs off a donkey but even I was running out of conversation.....A family of 6 arrived and the lovely hostess had a fit. She managed to push an extra table up but she made a bit of a panicky fuss and then I think they had quite a wait for their food. Maybe another chef? or certainly some entertainment in the way of magazines and sofas/silent film projector on a wall? The goats outside were cute to watch though.........

Being fairly local I have visited The Broken Egg many times since it opened. It's in a lovely location but the lack of customer care and the amount of time you have to wait for anything other than a cake is disappointing. Drinks arrived promptly but it was over half an hour later before a sandwich and bacon, egg and cheese muffin arrived (of which there was barely any cheese) by which time coffee and two cups of tea were finished so we had no drink with the actual lunch. When the food finally arrived and the long wait was mentioned to the the waitress, she said 'weren't you told there would be a wait - we have been very busy'. 'No, we weren't told'! She then said 'Oh, I should have mentioned it!'. The café was less than half full so don't stay if you are in a hurry. The sandwich was very good but the muffin, although tasty was on the small side although had a good filling - just couldn't taste the small amount of cheese. The cakes are overpriced - who pays £2.95 for an average sized chocolate brownie?

Yes, we're back again for another lunchtime visit. Four of us and a child. We had a selection of meals from the main menu and again we were not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and obliging, and it wasn't long to wait for the food. I had the Brie an Cranberry in Ciabatta bread with green salad garnish. Also a great pot of tea that gave me three cups. Everywhere is clean and tidy. The free range eggs they sell are very fresh and delicious.

This is now my third visit to The Broken Egg. It’s a lovely, clean and friendly restaurant. It was a long wait for the food but this was pointed out on arrival with a sign under the till but as always, well worth the wait! Unfortunately this time the toilets were not well maintained and an over spilling waste bin. Overall however, a good place to eat. We will be visiting again

Typical of what's happening today trying to diversify to add on to existing business!? I wish them well but only time will tell. (Do have theme nights I believe)

Great sized portions. Coffee very nice. Staff are hit and miss. One chef acts childish and plays games with female staff, seems to always be in.

They need more than one chef as waiting can be interminable at times. Food good if sometimes not consistent. Nicely laid out, staff can sometimes be neglectful

We eat here quite often during the day and always enjoy a good lunch - good food ( especially now the regular chef is back) and very friendly service. Tonight we decided to try the Friday night American menu and it was absolutely lovely! The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance at night and the burgers were the very best we have had in many years - really yummy! We were then tempted by pudding and seeing Bread and Butter pudding on the menu - well how could I not - my favourite and it was probably the best I have ever had ( sorry Mum!) . All in all a really good evening meal - and on our doorstep - we will be back!

These premises have now been open long enough not to be considered 'new'. They are always clean and service when I have been there has always been polite, although I have heard others say otherwise.

Quality of food very good but a wrong order (chicken breast ordered but leg delivered and no possibility of change offered) and long wait (25 minutes for a booked table). The staff are friendly but seem to need a little more training - no apology offered for the wrong serving.

Stopping over in Diss for lunch on the way to the Suffolk coast, came across this cafe, looked inviting enough, with spaces inside. Coffee was very good - cappucchino and americano, and the New Yorker sandwich was wholesome tasty and very satisfying. Friendly service noted. Recommended!

I telephoned to check if dogs were welcome, and they were! We visited after a muddy trip to the woods. The staff were super accommodating and welcoming. The dog was provided with water and biscuits and we ordered the most delicious cakes, panini and hot chocolate. Unfortunately we did muddy up where we were sitting a bit but we were reassured this was absolutely not a problem. We will definitely be returning. Really lovely visit.

I thought afternoon tea here would be something special to celebrate a birthday but unfortunately it wasn't. The table we were allocated was right next to the counter where people stood drinking, chatting and paying (I believe they might have been staff from the business centre). When I commented on this to a member of staff she said they would soon be gone, but then more came and stood there for some considerable time. The table was undecorated and the teapot and cups plain. One of the teaspoons was dirty and had to be replaced. There was nothing special about it whatsoever. It was just like being in a cafe which you go in for just a coffee. Not afternoon tea special at all. It was more expensive than many in the Norwich area so I thought the experience would be reflected in the price. But it clearly wasn't. The food was nice, nothing special, only 2 different filling in the sandwiches. The scones were good, the cakes ok, but again nothing special. The staff were busy but quite friendly. I would not recommend The Orangery for an afternoon tea experience. I came away feeling very let down and disappointed from what I thought was going to be an enjoyable afternoon.

What a little gem this is, fantastic pastries, cakes etc Coffees and much more. I had a breakfast sourdough ciabatta with sausage and egg which I highly recommend. Staff very friendly and the there is a nice outside sitting area too. Reasonably priced for the quality food. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area. Added bonus the lovely rivers walks are a minute away so you can walk that lovely breakfast etc off. Oops nearly forgot dog friendly too. Thanks for a lovely breakfast see you again soon.
