The Broadway Carvery in North Hertfordshire

The food was great, the company was great, the staff were great, the price was great. The only problem was that they kept opening the fire exist and letting the winter in. We could have done without that.

This was a lovely Sunday lunch. We had the carvery. There is one go at the meat (although the man controls the quantity - I had beef and gammon, there was also turkey) and then any amount of veg - as many times as you like. It was very nice. The parking was good. The price was reasonable, these days. It was handy for the supermarket next door, if you need to get anything while you are out.

We visited on Saturday evening, we didn’t have a reservation so we’re pleased to get a table. There was an extensive drinks menu and we all went for the Old Cannon brewery ale on tap which was delicious. Instead of starters we chose the Halloumi fries and sausage bites nibbles to start which were lovely. The three of us all had different mains and were all extremely satisfied with our meals. They were well cooked and portions were generous. We also had a very nice bottle of Malbec. Service was very friendly and efficient if slightly on the slow side. That said we were not in a hurry and had a very enjoyable evening. Would definitely visit again if in Letchworth.

First visit here, lovely atmosphere and pleasant staff. We had the lunch card menu and when it arrived we were very pleased with our choices, food presented well and nice and hot. Will definitely go back.

I saw their sign outside offering lunch card six days per week and thought it was worthy of trying. Mentioned this to another family member who was quickly on board. On entering we were greeted by very friendly and enthusiastic staff offering us a choice of tables and a choice of lunch card menu or a la carte. Ordering from the lunch menu we were very pleased with the service and when the food arrived we were even happier. Freshly cooked' HOT and delicious. Value was 5 Star. Will definitely be back. Our food was first rate, expertly cooked and served. Our waitress, Katie did us proud, was polite, helpful and professional.

We had a family reunion at the Downtown Bar and Grill last Christmas and everyone liked it so much that it was an obvious choice for a repeat meeting this Christmas. There were nine at our table, some of us chose from the Christmas festive menu, some from the a la carte menu, and once again the food, drinks and service was excellent. There is free parking in the hotel car park and it was only a few minutes walk from the station for those of us arriving by train, so it was convenient for everyone. I'm sure that we'll be back again next year!

We booked a table a week in advance for dinner following the Christmas Lights turn on in Letchworth having visited family. The table was booked for 6.45 however we arrived early in the hope we might be able to get seated earlier! We were assisted immediately by a welcoming young gentleman who then liaised with the Manager to see if they could accommodate. Within a few minutes she came back to say she had a table ready for us. Our drinks order was taken and delivered promptly. The whole bar and restaurant were heaving but at no time did we feel rushed nor did we have to wait too long for service or food. We ordered pork tenderloin noodle and vegetable stir fry, chicken with bacon and cheese with chips, salad and coleslaw, fish & chips and mushrooms in Stilton served with crusty bread. The food was delicious. Following dinner we decided to try the espresso martinis which went down very well. Look forward to a return visit when next in Letchworth. Well done to the team for a lovely evening.

Met with family members for a Saturday night meal. We were not disappointed. A comprehensive menu to suit all tastes, there was something for everyone. Pleasant modern decor with prompt, friendly and attentive service, all at a reasonable price.

Great stay at Downtown Bar & Grill. Staff were attentive and friendly on arrival. Room was billed as a single but the bed was definitely bigger than a standard single bed and really comfortable. Rooms are a bit dated, blind let a lot of light in and shower was naval height, but those are my only gripes - for the price it was great. Breakfast was fantastic, with a choice of options and unlimited juice tea/coffee. Would definitely stay again.

My wife and I booked a table online Saturday night and received a confirmation Sunday morning. We wanted a traditional Sunday roast and the carvery was perfect. This restaurant has had a complete face lift and looks better and brighter. The food was its usual good standard. Where can you get a carvery for £15 ? The staff were all pleasant and efficient. The restaurant was steady but nowhere near full. Give it a try people.

Excellente cuisine généreusement servie. Les sauces sont faites maison. Le steak sirloin (faux-filet) est tendre et goûteux, cuit exactement comme vous le demandez. Les ribs de porc sont gigantesques. Le décor est agréable et le service aimable. Un établissement de qualité.

Visited this evening to be served by disinterested waiters and waitresses even on a quiet evening, food had numerous mistakes and the chef came out shouting and ranting. Never again !

We came upon this pub/restaurant by chance this evening, totally impromptu. Really nice clean restaurant that looks like it’s recently been refurbished, soon as we walked in the staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was well cooked with a good menu with some interesting dishes, I had the Proper Pie with mustard mash and leeks it’s was really nice. Looking around it looked to be busy and had a nice atmosphere. Certainly will be returning again thank you.

We visited as a couple as an impromptu date night. Lovely food, great cocktails (especially in happy hour!) and couldn't fault the service. Will definitely be visiting again!

We'd stayed at The Broadway Hotel before and twice eaten at the Downtown Bar and Grill, so when we wanted a central location for the family to meet up before Christmas, it was an obvious choice. There were 8 of us dining, some from the Christmas festive menu, some from the a la carte, and the food and service were excellent. We weren't rushed at all, they coped well with our varying arrival times (we'd travelled in 3 groups from all over the country, some by car, some by train), and everyone was pleased. It was easy to book the table online, my email queries were given a prompt response and I'll definitely consider them again for next year's family Christmas lunch.

The staff were helpful and the carvery and other food was excellent. Definitely come again and recommend it to others. Vast improvement in surroundings compared to the previous decor. Blessed to now have a good option for Sunday roast!

Nice refurbishment. I had the New York Deli toasted sandwich, which was ok but not great, and at £6.95 quite pricey for the quality. The weekday menus of the day look interesting, £9.95 (Mon - Weds), £12.95 Thurs, Fri). All are 3 course and a single different combination each day which seems rather inflexible. But, what a shame the daily carvery has gone.....now only available on Sundays. This was very good - and what the restaurant was known for (as the menu says, since 1961.....) and very well priced, differently depending on the day/time. My server said complaints about the removal of the daily carvery were very common. Service was excellent, I wanted to leave a cash tip (I'd already paid by card and unlike previously service hadn't been added, which is an improvement), but as I didn't have change I couldn't - they had no change as they are now cashless - which I would think might not suit all customers. 3* because of the good service and nice refurbishment. I'll try the carvery again on a Sunday; here's hoping it will be reinstated soon.

Food was pretty good, but service was atrocious. Was never offered a second drink, ordered onion rings but they never arrived, waitress ignored us until we had finished, never checking things were OK. Told her we were missing the onion rings and she just shrugged and asked if we wanted them, but we had finished our mains for a while at this point. Never gave a chance to ask for a drink, just walking away.

Love the refurbishment, have to say I was impressed with the food. The server we had ugg sorry didn't catch her name but we were sat near the back door. It was so refreshing to be served by someone who appeared to be enjoying there job she was very smiley and just made the whole experience so much better. Will definitely be back well done

The place have been refurbished recently, and I have to say that the new design with the decoration made it really authentic and relaxing. You can reserve for 1 up to 8 people, and choose to sit on booths or at tables. -Or if you book in time, they can move tables around and/or provide seating without limit. (Free wifi is provided all over the place) There is live music on every Friday from 19:30! Over the 13 nights I spent there in the recent weeks, I have tried their Salt & pepper calamari; The Manhattan burger; Cheese burger; Smoky bbq glazed ribs (2×); Cajun Salmon with new potato salad; Monkfish & mac; Flat iron; Fish & chips (2×); Dirty fries; Buffalo hot wings; Sticky bbq wings, and the Sunday roast, some of their desserts as the Knickerbocker Glory (2×) and one of their Cinema ice cream, with the honeycomb flavour. -No matter what or when I ordered, the food was always on time, well presented, muthwatering, and reasonably priced. Althought they have a fair selection of softdrinks, wines, spirits and beers with a couple of cocktails, I mostly drinked their draughts.(Some of them been made in their very own Old Cannon Brewery). -I would recommend you, to try as many as you can. And last but not least I have to mention the service they have provided: They have put all their hearts and souls into their work at all times, on every level without exception.I have to say that the the result was absolutly amazing! -I can not possibly tell you, how greatfull I am. On this occasion I would like to say a big THANK YOU! to all the chefs, to the members of staff, just as to the managment team, for all their hard work and the quality service they have provided. You have put hospitality to a next level, and that is unforgetable! -I will definetly go back whenever I can.

In a world of chain restaurants with sometimes bland menus and indifferent food the 'Carvery' came as a pleasant surprise. An extensive menu with plenty of choice and some very tasty combinations to attract all tastes. The inside is larger than you first think but is laid out in such a fashion that you don't feel crowded in. The place has a nice comfortable ambiance. The Service was very friendly and efficient. Our meals without exception were well prepared and tasty and came in decent portions. The prices were very reasonable considering the quality of the food you received.

The service was great, all staff very friendly.We went for a roast dinner it was nice, but not very hot at all, would prefer it warmer. My son had a burger he is 4, and it was huge for a kids meal, I asked for a plain burger, but came out with salad in the bun and some burger sauce,, we asked for it to be changed and they did this without no proplem at all, even the manger came over and checked everything was OK after. I would suggest maybe have smaller burger for the kids menu as no 4 year old would have ate the portion.We will return and the bar area is lovely.

We went as a family for the carvery. For the time that we were there, the staff were faultless - so friendly and helpful - they made the visit really enjoyable. The restaurant area was pleasant and generally it was a nice environment to sit in. However, the food was disappointing. The meat was good but we could tell the veg etc had been there a long, long time. The stuffing balls were rock hard, half the potatoes were hard whilst others were fine, the parsnips were hard and the cauliflower cheese a dried out, almost unrecognisable mess. One urn of gravy was fine, whilst the other looked like sludge. It was nice to have a variety of veg dishes to choose from and maybe if you arrive at the beginning of service (midday), then the food won't be so hard and dried out. Or maybe it would be better if they cooked and put out small quantities at a time, especially when it it is quiet like it was when we went.Whether we go back remains to be seen as there are so many other good options available locally. If we do back back it would be because of the great service and prices (and we would be there for when the door opens).

Usually a very good carvery. Not today Measly scraps of beef and turkey left and this was at 6.30pm. Usually there is plenty of tasty joints. Bare in mind it’s open till 9pm!The Yorkshire’s tasted like they had been standing there all afternoon and quite honestly, disappointed. First bad meal at this place, not sure if there is a change of chef or what .

Great selection of food , cooked to perfection, good selection of vegatables staff attentive and friendly, this is a great walk in sit down , eat your food pay and leave , no frills just gr8 food good service job done

We visited for our pre-booked work festive lunch - 19 people in total & had a great afternoon.The restaurant was very busy (quite a few groups) but the service we received was excellent. Perhaps a little slow on the drinks side of things but we were seated close to the bar so people were happy to go up & get their own drinks/rounds when required.Our food (pre-ordered) was all fresh, tasted great & huge portion sizes! There were no issues with anything missing & all of our food came out in good time. Everyone in our party enjoyed themselves!

Went for a Christmas meal with friends. We were seated at a table in the back corner by the toilets and promptly forgotten about for 20 minutes. The staff were friendly, but they continuously forgot us so we had to wait ages between drinks orders & got super thirsty.There was one vegan-friendly option for starters. One vegetarian option for mains (vegan if you removed the yoghurt) & no vegan desserts. This is so disappointing & in 2019 just really lazy. Especially since you pay a set price for the Christmas menu, which left me feeling short-changed compared to others (despite letting the restaurant know beforehand).I had soup for starters, which was my only choice. Then the nut roast for main (also the ONLY choice). This nut roast was bizarrely spicy for a Christmas meal (Moroccan style, supposedly) & came with three hard boiled potatoes that were also strangely spicy. It felt a little bit like eating a curry in gravy. I also got a couple of leaves on the side that was supposed to be 'salad'. As a main it was over-priced & disappointing. Three potatoes, a couple of leaves & a nut roast? Hardly filling. I ended up going to the cavery buffet to get some roast potatoes from there, load up on vegetables, and get more gravy, since the portion I was given was, again, TINY.For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding without custard, which was the only dairy-free option. It was okay but dry.All in all, would not return & left feeling like I had overpaid for a below average menu.

Nice food set in a nice hotel. Car park is tiny so on busy times you need to park elsewhere. Main food is the carvery, they do sell other options from a small menu. Waitresses always seem nice and helpful.

8 of us had dinner at the Carvery. What a wonderful variety of food all the meats & dishes we’re delicious. The desserts also were very scrumptious, nice selection of wine & drinks. Very nice atmosphere, excellent meal. Love the hotel too

We were visiting relatives in Letchworth and chose the Broadway as we have eaten there before and there is a good choice of food on the menu in addition to the carvery.When we arrived we were informed that it was also steak night so I opted for the steak whilst the others had the carvery.I commented to the waitress (Lisa) that it was the best steak that I had had in a restaurant for some time. I would certainly eat here again.

This had definitely improved since we last went earlier this year. Everything was tasty and cooked well. Beef was moist, great choice of veg and panacotta for dessert was delicious! Friendly waitress even though she was runoff her feet. Great value roast just wish plates were bigger!

We always enjoy the carvery here which is really good value and of late the meat and vegetables have been superb. It was no different today, with an attentive waitress and friendly, efficient service. Unfortunately my elderly mother left her purse behind and so we asked the staff to have a look by our table and in the bar, but they could not find it. Only a couple of minutes later, they rang me back to say they had found it in the Ladies' where my mum had left it, so we were able to go back and collect it with nothing missing. Great service!

Been to this carvery with my granddaughter for lunch several times, we always have the carvery which is always excellent, plenty of meat, we usually have the beef, which is cooked perfectly, as a treat I always ask for a little beef fat to be added for extra flavour, absolutely yummie, vegetables are nicely cooked, love their cauliflower and broccoli mix, although not been on the menu lately. Excellent value for a good roast dinner.

An unplanned sunday dinner for 4 on fathers day, after a phone call to confirm,we arrived about 7pm and were seated within minutes. Our lovely waitress, Mia,came and took our drinks order and advised us about the carvery. We had a choice of 3 meats and lots of lovely veg as well as sauces, gravies and condiments. The food was very good, the service was faultless and the price was a pleasant surprise! Definitely dine here again.

Booked into the Broadway for a weekend as a friend was having his 50th birthday there. Arrived Friday evening and treated ourselves to the Carvery, great food. Staff all round very friendly and most helpful, and our stay quite enjoyable

Également une carte bien diversifiée avec le traditionnel Fish and chips (Servi de manière généreuse) Rien d’extraordinaire au final mais un restaurant anglais traditionnel dont on ne repart pas déçu (On y a mangé à deux reprises) Choix de bières assez restreint.

We visited the Broadway on Bank Holiday Monday. The venue was very quiet and a lovely atmosphere. Our hostess Lisa was fantastic. She was kind, friendly and helpful. The food was super and plentiful, certainly filling up 3 young men as well as a 3 year old who was treated with great respect. Super value meal out.

We visited The Broadway for an evening meal and was served by friendly staff. We had carvery as it was still on offer, very nice and plentiful. Would recommend.

Very relaxed style restaurant, friendly staff ( Lisa) great carvery with the full works of plentiful meat and veg,a full mixture of locals in for a drink, hotel guests, the place makes you feel like your at home, no waiting around, very informal, I would highly recommend for drinks or the food (not tried the hotel rooms at yet ) Well done to the Broadway"family"

Lunch today was a real let down. Odd food combinations and soft fish batter. Genuinely a bit odd. Not sure what’s happening?

Great food and customer service was excellent. They do a carvery and also if you do not fancy that, you can order from a well illustrated menu.

Impressed with the quality of the carvery meat, gammon, beef, turkey. Vegetables and gravy good too. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value too. Recommended.

Lovely waitress, pleasant atmosphere, plenty of room, reasonable price, would definitely recommend for a Carvery style Sunday Lunch.

Basic but really well priced. You can get really full at a low price. Food not fine cuisine but well cooked and seasoned. Comfortable seating.

Been here a few times now and it’s always good. Lovely tender meats, hot and well stocked veggies. Better than a Toby by far. Only thing that stops me giving this a 5 star is the service can be a little slow and drinks and side orders take quite a while to reach your table.

Had the buffet breakfast here today with colleagues and it was lovely. Fresh food and all tasty. Good parking available, and all you can eat.

This is a hotel that serves non residents...I think the help yourself breakfast is best value in Letchworth..eat as much as you want for £8.! Carvery is popular cheap and fresh.

Visited for lunch with family,(24/01/2019) having been before on numerous occasions, knowing that the carvery is always good value. Beef,Turkey and Gammon & always plenty of vegetables to choose from. I'd like to mention the member of staff who waited on us, Lisa, looked after my father in law wonderfully.

Perfect for a quick roast dinner and good value for money. Due to the price don’t except anything too fancy. There was a good selection of vegetables but the meat (turkey) was on the dry side.

Excellent service by Dylan who we found to be very attentive throughout our visit. The food was good and very reasonably priced.

The all day carvery is a good feature and great for a quick dash meal. I like that they have a several options for side vegetables - usually four or five to chose from. Also good that they offer a meat-free option. The service is usually friendly and efficient.

The beef just melted in your mouth and huge variety of vegetables and lovely gravy. Good attentive service and comfortable seating.

Lovely carvery yet again. We've been going to the Broadway for a good few years now and the food has always been excellent. Today our lovely waitress Stacey, enticed us with dessert and it was lovely. Thank you chef and your team for the excellent roast and thank you Stacey for being warm, welcoming and very friendly.

A long drive for a pre Christmas lunch with my sister and her husband. What a disappointment. Only even rated up to "poor " because the staff were friendly and helpful. However they obviously knew better than to ask why so much food was left on our plates ( as there was on tables around us) - and it wasn't because we had been greedy and taken too much!

Visited with family at Lunchtime today and had a very disappointing experience! Food not good at all, the carvery mediocre, warm not hot. Quality and presentation of cheese and biscuit course appalling! Celery dried out and limp, grapes looking well past their use by date, soft and a bit mouldy looking. Cheese, stilton looking tired and unappetizing. Service very slow and staff seemed disengaged and with poor customer service with sloppy attitude and no regard for good hospitality. One has to wonder what it might be like to stay at the Broadway hotel and what the standard of the breakfast is like?

Popped in for a Sunday carvery. We hadn't booked but were able to be seated straight away. Food was delicious - cooked well, hot & lots of choice. Service was friendly, we had a slight wait for dessert but it was very tasty.

Visited the carvery today for lunch with my elderly parents I would highly recommend this restaurant good selection of meat and vegetables which you can have as much as you like off and salad bar very friendly waitress called Lisa who couldn't help us enough.

We were a party of 27.... great service all staff who were very helpful. Some of us ordered from the menu and the rest had the Carvery. I am vegan and had the vegan lentil cottage pie which actually wasn’t on the menu.... it was lovely! Great selection of vegetables too. Would be good to have a vegan dessert option on the menu. But over all very happy with our visit and would return.

We have been several times and to be fair it us usually better than this hut on this occasion it was poor at best and if this was our first visit then we probably wouldn't return in the future.

A fantastic place to eat, friendly staff. There's a Whacky warehouse for the kids,the food is always fresh and hot would recommend it to anyone. Well done all the staff front and back of house. X

The Carvery has a parking system where you have to enter your registration. I was a regular weekly customer but one time I forgot to key in my number plate because I was busy seating my disabled elderly mother. I then received incredibly aggressive parking demands from a private parking company. I went into the restaurant to sort it out and they had a file as thick as a stack of bibles of people who had been similarly been caught out. They said it would be fine, but it wasn't. Still the parking company sent out more threatening tickets.The restaurant kept saying it would be sorted but I was still getting letters demanding money. A second parking ticket was issued even though I was very careful in registering my vehicle. I was told their system had a 'glitch'. I still have this unpleasantness hanging over my head at time of writing (waiting for the parking company to write to me). I won't eat here again because no restaurant meal is worth all the hassle and threats. Word of warning: two out of three of the entrances have no warning signs about this and the staff don't ask if you've entered your number plate. You can seemingly be caught out even if you do put your code in. They've lost my custom which is a shame as I liked it there..

This is a really good carvery spot in the area and would recommend over the Wilbury stone house as the quality of food and service is miles better. The young lad who works carving the meats is particularly nice and friendly when serving every time I have visited.

Wanted to eat early and the carvery was just opening so I thought I’d give it a go. The roast beef was ok, a little dry as it had been under the lights for a while. Got a nice portion though. The veg were a little tired and over cooked but had a good variety. The roasties were not to crisp as they used new style spuds.

Needed a nice but quick meal. Good parking there and although is was a very hot day it was comfortable inside.

Thursday night is steak night at the Broadway carvery.

Usually love this place but the last couple of visits haven’t been great. Nowadays traditional roast potatoes seem to be last minute new potatoes made in to a poor offering of roast potatoes (Chef tip; gold old King Edwards make the best roast potatoes). Also although we were first in the turkey was dry and not freshaswe have had it from there before.

With a selection of three roasts on offer with a great selection of vegetables, we were spoilt for choice. Lunch is very good here and we'll be coming back.

Our second visit to this carvery. Its been a while since the last time we were here, but the standards are still the highest. Best carvery in the area by far! The fact it is always busy is testament to this. All the meat was cooked perfectly. The veg was spot on, and not dried up on top like many other carveries have! The only niggle I have, is that in order to fit all the veg onto the plate, the plate needs to be half as big again! Can't wait for my next visit!

We booked a table for 12 last Sunday for Father's day at 15:00hrs.

Went for a family meal on 16.06.2018 at 1800 booked a table for 12 . When we arrived we had 2 extra for dinner The waitress sorted out extra seats nothing was a problem the food was brilliant we had 3 children they really looked after them will be back soon

We spent 2 nights here. The first evening, we used the carvery, about 6.30 pm. Excellent! So we went back the second evening, about 8.30 pm. (carvery said to open till 9.00 pm.) - sadly, meat though generous was dried out, and vegetables were soggy and tepid.

A party of just-under 20 of us attended for an evening meal. The staff could not have been more helpful, especially Rio, who was wonderful. What a treat to meet someone who loves her job! The carvery was very good, and also good value-for-money. It was a Friday evening, but there was still space to fit us all in by re-arranging the tables for us in a secluded corner. Many thanks to all.

This place is so much better than it used to be and is always quite busy. I never used to like it there but it had much improved and there is agood variety of veg meats etc which are now hotter than they used to be and the men on the carveryare always very nice and polite. I don't agree with surcharge being put on the bill when you serve yourself however and think the price of the drinks is expensive. On the plus side there are often coupons in the local paper for cheaper carveryare meals at certain times which I think is a great idea.

Great sevice. Sunday carvery excellent good portion of meats and eat as much as you like veg.. Busy lovely atmosphere.

Two young waitresses did their best to avoid eye contact, so we had to ask for advice on how this carvery worked. Food was o.k. and it was all at a relaxed pace - well, we were ignored most of the time. Good coffee. Had...

Been here several times recently. A pleasant meeting place for something to eat. The carvery is nice, good choice and good value. Thursday is steak night, again, good value and plenty of food.

Had a group of 13 of us, 2 with food allergies. They provided the two with a lovely fruit salad which wasn’t on the menu. It was delicious. Everyone else had a Carvery, the food was outstanding and the service was even better. Nothing was...

Excellent facilities, staff very welcoming and attentive also accommodating. They happily rearranged tables at the request of the birthday girl. The food was excellent and varied, they catered for every palate.

6 Adults and 3 under 5 children for Sunday lunch, no problem! though we had prebooked. It was an interesting and enjoyable meal, full house so word is getting around. The carvery offered 3 meat or vegetarian options, you would be amazed at the quantity...

We regularly go to eat here. Lovely carvery, the Mother’s Day special menu had a good choice too for anyone that didn’t want carvery, at a good price too. For such a busy day, we were not rushed either, it was a lovely meal, our waitress Lisa, was friendly and very welcoming.

Due to personal circumstances I had the cancel the already paid for ball that they had on the 17th Feb, to say me and my girlfriend were gutted was an understatement.

Conveniently located in centre of Letchworth, comfortable modern surroundings and large hotel car park next door. Staff were friendly and not too busy on a week night. The carvery is good value on a week night and on par with similar restaurants offering carveries. The starters were very nice but sadly I was not very impressed with the carvery main course - the meat (gammon) was bland and tasteless and the vegetables were unappetising and tasted like they'd sat under the hot lights all evening. The roast potatoes were also disappointing and were swimming in fat with no action taken by the kitchen staff to dry them off or make them more appealing. The meal also gave me the worst indigestion I have had for many years.

Nice selection of meats and vegetables down side the roast potatoes were roasted with skins on which l don’t like personally like, good experience though our waitress was spot on.
