Was in Bridgwater, so had to visit the Bristol & Exeter, which I enjoyed once before. Watched a bit of the town's amazing carnival, then headed to this cosy little pub, with its small front room and another out the back through the yard. Being in a suburb on carnival night, it was pretty empty. It's not a real ale pub or anything, so I assumed I'd knock off a dull pint and leave. But it's one of those pubs that feels cosy and intimate even when empty, with its yellow paint and worn furniture, which includes a couple of old dining-room-style tables worth about a quid each. And the barmaid was chatty and friendly right from the get go, proving a charming hostess. I wasn't imposing convo on her--she was just a lively, warm person, a natural for the job. 31 years old, dark hair, fancy nails and jewellery, oversized grey T-shirt, holidays in Turkey. She made my evening. Some people did trickle in. They all chatted to me too. It's that kind of a friendly, comforting pub. I drifted back to the Mercure Hotel after 4 pints of Guinness, glad to have visited again.

Was on the way out of lovely Bridgwater and couldn’t resist a last couple of drinks, so stepped into this little railway pub (locals told me it’s named after the old railway line that ran through the station over the road). Very small, cosy, bare-wood-floored bar room, with a narrow outside area at the back. The layout of the counter and seating is perfect for inclusive conversation, which soon bubbled with the friendly, quirky locals, making this a memorable visit for me. The pub has the feel of a local but must be used to random rail travellers dropping in. Amiable Scots guy behind bar was relieved by a blonde lady of tough demeanour, who turned out just as chatty. TV on the wall a bit distracting but threw up subjects for conversation. Long live old-fashioned little boozers like the Bristol & Exeter, which are a dying breed.

I have called in here a number of times over the years when on my way back to the station which is nearby. It is a no fuss no frills place, with friendly locals. There is real local cider available, at a good price. While it is not somewhere I would take my partner, I like it here, a good honest local pub.

Wow, what a visit, the most accommodating pub in town, whilst most have become heartless as the breweries turn them into carbon copy chains of every other pub in the country, the B&E retains the old English style of public house that you look for on a night out. Music - easy to find, food - the best bbq in the south west, atmosphere - in abundance, sports - live on the big screen each day, drinks - you name it they’ve got it, with a unique local mix. The local pets even put a smile on your face, Tripod & Scrumpy being a favourite of every pub dweller. If you haven’t frequented the B&E then you’re already missing a part of folklore that you’ll want to tell Grandkids about

Excellant service and probably the cleanest pub in Bridgwater. Very good choice of local ales and ciders. Nice to have a pub that is dog friendly. Looking forward to the next visit

Local folklore states the B&E is a must for any train stop off or good time drinking with random locals. Beautiful signage, the best juke box in 20 miles, bar snacks, proper rough cider, a calculator to help work out the round, escape alleyway, Racing Post updated daily, dart board directly in the way of the door- everything you need and more. Ideal place to take a young lady or gentleman for a first date livener. “Remember that time in the B&E.....” should be in every story catalogue, enjoy

By far the best establishment in Bridgwater. Best toilets I’ve ever seen and has even got a flower garden. Rough cider on tap and usually cheaper than Asda’s Sainsbury’s and Tesco, I am particularly fond of the decor and the general flair of the place. Get in there people

and very friendly. Lots of locals who were nice and chatted to us. Beer was good and well kept. Good selection of snacks. Loos were basic but clean. Staff were great. Nice short walk from the station and not too far from town.

Convenient especially if you're arriving by train, because it's near the station, and especially if you arrive in the afternoon, because it's the only place near the station that's open. Excellent beer and cider, plus of course the usual bar snacks, and friendly company, who can tell you all about King Alfred and the cakes, what Queen Victoria thought of Bridgwater (not much), "rough" cider, and where you can flag down the Nether Stowey bus without trudging all the way to the bus station.

I've eaten here quite a few times now, the food is always fresh and tasty with an imaginative menu. The service is friendly and efficient. The log fire is just lovely in the winter and the garden is great when it's sunny. Nice big car park.

Service was not great, tea brought to the table but no tea strainer for the tea leaves and we had to ask. Toast brought out but no knife and again we had to ask for knives and serviettes. Been there before and always good but today extremely disappointing and doesn’t enthuse me to revisit.
