Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...

Very delighted to find we were able to get a table for the four of us on what looked to be an exceptionally busy Saturday night. Told there was a bit of a wait on food at the door, but that's to be expected. Everything then arrived piping hot well before the time we were told to expect. Fresh, quality and plenty of food, perfect. The staff were all wonderful, especially given that you could see they were very busy. The very tall fellow and the one with the beard were in particular fantastic, though service was very strong all round. Only thing I would say, the children's menu could do with a few more options. Not everyone's kid's are fussy eaters, I know, but it would go a long way. We will be back for sure.

We have been coming here for years and always enjoyed the food and service. We went back recently and i ordered the fish pie was - oil greasy mash and fish felt as though it had been microwaved to death.- basically a greasy soup. So then ordered the fish and chips as appaently the fish pie is supposed to be like this. Frozen fish cooked with oven chips and cold mushy peas. I gave up and fed the fish to the dog. They had the good grace not to charge us for either of these dishes. My husbands steak pie was excellent as always but still with oven chips. The staff were lovely to us which us contrary to other reviews, although we did notice others being treated quite badly fir no reason.

Stopped at the Bridge on a day out whilst staying somewhere else, we had a superb lunch in the "Walker's Bar", the food arrived quickly and we were well looked after and even managed to use the hotel car park which saves a small fortune. We met the owners wife who was polite and charming, sorry I can only give 5 stars but based on other hotels in the are this one stands out to me.

I had been recommended this place by a friend a year or so ago so thought we would give it a try for a Sunday lunch after a walk around Buttermere. To say the staff are rude would be a massive understatement. We were left sitting for over half an hour waiting to order food before we went to the bar and asked if we could order something to eat. We both ordered a roast beef dinner. The portion size was small for the money and the beef was over cooked, very fatty and chewy! You could barely eat much of the meat it was that fatty! Vegetables came really hard and cold and were swimming in water. Don't be fooled by the beautiful location of this restaurant - the food and staff will let you down! Extremely rude service - we will not return.

A small group of us popped in today after a charity walk. We'd barely got through the door when we were "welcomed" by a female with dark hair who demanded to know if we had a reservation (the place was empty) then demanded to know if we were having food..."yes or no" before we'd got sat down and before the other charity walkers had even arrived. Ourselves and the group went on to order drinks and chips for the children, the service throughout was distant and disinterested, dark haired female stroppy. Avoid at all costs, no wonder it was empty when we got there.

Never came across a ruder staff member. Didn’t end up eating as it was busy and an hour wait for your order to be taken which was fine. I went elsewhere and got called a ‘sarcastic d***’ to the rest of the party. The food looked really good but this particular guy was really rude. Don’t want to generalise this to all staff, this was one in particular.

We visit here regularly whilst on hols in The Lakes, usually after a good walk around beautiful Buttermere lake with the dogs. Its very popular as you can imagine, so usually very busy but we've always managed to get a table and the service is efficient, table service is inside and out. Food is great, good portion sizes and loads of vegan options too. Dogs always get their own bowl of broccoli and cumberlands :) We always have a pint of Wainrights here, worth popping in just for that!

I really wanted to love it as wanted to visit for ages; I've followed the page for so long and finally we made it to Buttermere (stunning). It's cosy inside and the bathrooms are lovely (but dark). We arrived on a weekday just after 12pm so not many in. Was seated and advised about the red/green block ordering system. The two staff were friendly, fussed our dog. We loved the fact that they do a doggy option (sausages and brocolli). However, our steak and ale pies, although huge were lukewarm in most parts, dare I say it cool. I did feed this back afterwards and the waitress informed the chef. We would have left a lot more on the plate had our dog not had some. The dogs sausages were only warm too even though we were told to wait as they were really hot. Maybe an issue with their heating equipment. Sadly we won't come back as nearly £60 spent and neither of us enjoyed it.

I have visited here a few times this year and it has always been excellent. But, this week we went as a family of 6 and we were all disappointed. The portion sizes were very small and did not reflect the prices. We were left really disappointed. The food itself was nice but just not enough of it. Bare in mind that none of us are big eaters either. Whether you went for the small or large portions of food they were meagre and non reflective of the price. Compared to the last few times we visited, we were amazed at the difference. It’s a beautiful place, very ambient and cosy. The menu is great and the staff friendly. We would just like to see the decent portion sizes back on the plates again. We wondered if maybe they have a different chef or if we were unlucky. We hope so as we had come to like it here.

Lovely place and staff. However we went for food after a day walking. After looking forward to some thing I had months ago at same place I was left disappointed. The food portion size was smaller, the amount of meat in the roast beef ciabatta was lot less, this it’s self was chewing and over cooked/ or cheap meat. The ciabatta was so dry it was hard to swallow this probably due to the supposedly gravy on it looked more like it had been shown the spoon at most. Chips and salad ok. Sorry to write this as was looking forward to what I had last time only to be left very disappointed

Fabulous old Walker’s bar has been spoilt by a crazy hi tech system totally out of character with the building and area. Approaching the bar to review the ales on offer is now a sin but, if you are not intercepted before you get there, you are greeted by a computer screen. This “improvement “ now requires six staff interactions before you receive your refreshment……..being told to find a seat, having the system explained, hailing a staff member via the red and green wooden block, giving your order, receiving your order, and finally making payment. The outcome of this is that any semblance of a traditional pub is lost whilst staff create a febrile atmosphere by purposefully scurrying about checking which way up the wooden blocks are. Absurd and unnecessary………..just be a proper pub please.

Spent 4 nights in the Northern Lakes and for me this was the best meal I ate all the time I was there. Home made steak and ale pie was one of the best if not the best we’d ever had. I would definitely return for more pie. However it does seem some people fall foul of the ordering system. We ourselves waited a while with our wooden block turned to indicate we were ready to order but nobody seemed to notice. This was simple to rectify by asking politely for assistance but maybe a new system should be considered

Walked into the pub, middle aged blonde/brown hair woman met me and said “ are you eating or not?!” I replied say my family members are changing their shoes and not sure. Then shown outside left alone and a family followed me in being escorted by the said lady with menus, they were obviously eating and had told her immediately, they were then served before me and I then eventually received a menu and ordered a drink. There is a system they use to put a wooden block red or Green to show you require help, as I was finishing my drink I turned it upwards to green, the table in the far corner had done the same after me, same woman walked straight passed my table and served the others!, I then at this point waved away my party of 15 people, eventually paid the bill and we had a fabulous meal at another pub along the road, the bill was over £500.00, a substantial loss of income to your pub, I am so pleased not to be the owner, although I am sure whoever it is provides this feedback, trying and hospitality training. If you don’t want to serve people in a correct and pleasant manner I am afraid you will always come across these issues, as I said to your face at the bar” you were and are the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to come across”

Staying in Keswick, and only visited this place so we could drive the Honister and Newlands passes, so weren't expecting anything particularly special. But we were very pleasantly surprised. No bookings available, but a very short queue and we were in. Covid rules well observed....

I visited the Bridge Inn on Saturday for dinner and felt compelled to write a review. Despite the current C-19 challenge, the welcome was warm and the service was superb throughout. I had a burger which was genuinely the best burger I’ve ever had! My...

We stopped in for a pint and a snack mid-walk. The staff were friendly and efficient, giving good customer service and following Covid guidelines. The pilsner was good, but what really stood out for us was the food. I had the soup of the day,...

We have visited the Bridge on a regular basis over a period of several years now. It is the perfect place to stay in Buttermere. The food and beer are of a very high standard. The bar is cosy and full of character. The rooms are wonderfully well-equipped and comfortable. The setting is inimitable with pristine mountains - some high and challenging, High Stile, Grasmoor, others perfect for an introduction to the fells, Randerdale Knotts or walks on low ground - within easy reach and lakes to die for. Most importantly, the staff are professional ,courteous and extremely warm and welcoming. We visited this weekend after a Covid-enforced absence and it felt like coming home. Ray welcomed us - and our lab - back with open arms (well socially distanced open arms of course !). This superb hotel achieves the perfect balance between a high quality experience and down-to-earth warmth. It is Covid-safe.

Stopped for lunch today. My wife had the steak and ale pie which was good, I had the burger which was poor, over cooked, processed cheese and fries undercooked. Well overpriced at £13.95 and staff not that interested when told it wasn't that good.

Our third stay and everything is a bit weird at the moment....but the hotel and staff were delightful. They worked hard and made us feel safe. The menu was excellent and they went above and beyond in catering for allergies. It’s a great place to stay in one of the most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Particular thanks to Ray and Nikki but all staff are great.

We visited the beer garden for a quick drink before our walk around Buttermere. We were so impressed by the service and atmosphere we booked a table to eat for a couple of hours later after our walk. After our walk we were ready for a hearty meal. We ordered the steak and ale pie and it was out of this world. The biggest and tastiest pie we have ever had. The restaurant was all table service and all COVID 19 precautions were implemented at all times. We were served by Alexandra who was efficient, friendly and extremely helpful PS. If you cannot eat your steak and ale pie in one sitting they are happy to box it up for you to take home.

Having walked around Buttermere we were starving! Time for a late lunch....Ordered 4 meals - pie, fish and chips, soup and a scone, pasta.Even the veg were fresh, flavourful and clearly prepared by an expert. Veggie Pie - never seen anything like it. Light gravy with exquisite veg. Massive and perfectly cooked fish. Great pub chips. Scone with clotted cream and the chefs own rum butter. Gorgeous soup. Kid's pasta generous portion. Lovely pint of Cumberland ale.A fabulous dog-friendly place which comes very highly recommended by us.

My wife and I went for a trip to Lowther Castle and Gardens with the in-laws, and after such awful weather we decided to travel to Cockermouth to treat ourselves to the excellent Fredricks which we've visited many times before. We started with the seafood platter / selection with a portion of chips for the young one. It's a great selection of items for fish lovers! After, we ordered some lovely main dishes, enough for 3 adults and 2 kids (1 kids meal of pizza and chips!) Lovely meal to end of evening. Will be back when next in the area.

My friend and I called in here whilst in Wigton and had a bacon buttie and a barista butties both of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I had a latte which was lovely and my friendcsaid her cappuccino was one if the vest she'd had. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we will definitely return.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Since discovering this little gem we no longer visit the area without popping in. The chocolate twists are generously sized, nice and buttery, and the coffee is divine. The staff are more than happy to cater to all my awkward needs and questions with a smile - nothing is too much trouble!
