Stayed here overnight as was attending a gig at Reeth, a short walk from The Bridge. Staff are very friendly and accommodated a fast and early dinner service so we could get to our gig on time. Food was hearty, good old fashioned pub food. Cask beer was excellent and open fire loved by punters and dogs. Room was basic but clean and had everything I could have asked for

A warm and friendly welcome was given to four tired wet walkers. As our coats dried next to the fire we were served pots of steaming tea and then very tucked into tasty home cooked meals. The atmosphere and staff are super friendly, and then we continued up the hill to the wonderful Grinton youth hostel.

The pub looked full when we arrived at the bar but we were shown into a lovely bright dinning area. Meals were promptly served with friendly attentive service. We had steaks which we were worried would overface us as they were described as T-burns. However there were tender and not too large served with onion rings tomatoes mushrooms chips it was lovely. It was well presented and it was lovely food. Mum had the ginger pudding to finish which was moist and delicious. The best meal we’ve had out here.

Prebooked as staying up roadTaken to a rather lonely section of pub as single traveller always now hard to eat outOrder food which was quick and very generous portionsExtremely well presented, scotch egg was lovely, hot and very fillingRib eye steak again beautiful presentation and very tasty the only let down was the sauce had been sat around and had skin on the top and the medium rare was more on the rare side. We were staying in Reeth and booked the Bridge Inn on recommendation. It was a 20 minute walk from the village. It is a lovely pub with friendly staff. After a long look at the menu we went for the Sunday Roast Beef. It was a fine choice lovely thick cut meat with roasties and veg plus the obligatory Yorkshire pudding and loads of gravy (I asked for more gravy and got loads more!). We had cheese board to follow and it was fantastic. The guy behind the bar even told us where to buy some of the cheese we had enjoyed. The beer was fist class. An excellent place

The real cruz of my review is that Andy the landlord failed to record my booking for two rooms placed back in January 2020. I backed that up with an email to check all was well a month before our departure. Now imagine walking the Coast to Coast and turning up at your accommodation to find that you were not expected. Thats what happened to us even thought I had paid a deposit by a Bacs payment. OK, Andy was upfront, the pub has had its problems but surely you record bookings. Bottom line. The accommodation is on the cheap side so don't expect anything too glamourous. 'You won't get it'.On the upside, 'surprisingly' the food is very good.So my advice, stay somewhere else but by all means eat at the Bridge.

After walking from Reeth we decided to stop here for lunch. We were greeted by a friendly young lady who took our order for drinks and food. After a short wait our food arrived and we were not disappointed, with my husband declaring his steak pie was the best he had eaten for a long time! Would definitely return if we were in the area.

Great place to stop after a long walk to enjoy a beer & lunch. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. To avoid visitors coming to the bar, they offer table service. Food choices good & we both enjoyed what we'd ordered. Steak pie recommended, so full of meat & flavour - very happy husband when he dug into his! good beer selection too. Would recommend.

We were in the restaurant 4 consecutive nights, whilst staying here. There are various ales and wines available, by the glass or bottle. The menu is so good that we knew beforehand we wouldn’t be eating elsewhere, and what we would try next. The quality of the ingredients on our first visit was so good we just had to try more!! The monkfish on a bed of ratatouille was divine, the black pudding scotch egg fabulous, along with traditional options such as steak and ale pie (not an ounce of fat to be found) and beer battered fish and chips, great quality flaky white fish, to rival any chop shop in Yorkshire. If you like a steak we can highly recommend the rib eye, and if you have space the puddings are to die for, my personal favourite, Liz’s ginger sponge and toffee sauce, though the cheeseboard made its way to our table too . If you are staying over, the full English is unrivalled, not to mention the home made marmalade.

The Bridge is our favourite local Pub, which has had a tough 12 months as described by other contributors. After 4 months of shielding we went there for the evening menu, subsidised by our local MP Rishi. We were pleased to see that well thought out precautions were in place. The local beer from Askrigg was well up to its usual standard. It was a tough choice with so many tempting dishes, but for mains my wife had monkfish with ratatouille while I went for fish and chips (having had none for 5 months). For afters I had a lovely light Liz’s ginger pudding with a toffee sauce and ice-cream, while Sue had 4 layer berry ice-cream cake. With drinks and discount it came to a very acceptable 29 quid. We also booked for lunch and dinner next week, which speaks for itself. The food is a dearer than normal pub grub but is much better than average with well-cooked locally sourced ingredients. Andy, the landlord has grown a beard in lock down and has lost a lot of weight by doing lots of cycling. The atmosphere though not like the Bridge of old, with its mix of residents (i.e people whose family has lived here 400 years), incomers (who have only lived 16 years like ourselves) and visitors, was still very pleasant. We left by the back door and inspected the flood defences which are being constructed,

Disappointed with meal as ‘Moussaka’ I ordered was NOT a Moussaka but kidney beans, aubergine (I think) tinned tomatoes and cheese on top. Garlic bread to accompany was NOT garlic bread but tasteless white bread. I did not order a vegan meal. I mentioned it to the waitress and the chef but no satisfaction. Also, there was a dead fly or flies in the window behind the cushion where I was seated which put me off.Not enjoyable at all - even on eat out to help out.

Andy has suffered a second major flood in 8 months and still serves great beer and food despite his cellars still being pumped out. Only two beers were available Jennings and Yorkshire Dales but were excellent. The Sunday lunch was huge: 2cm thick pork shoulder, melt in the mouth crackling, 3 roast spuds, a lovely light Yorkshire, loads of veg and gravey. If you fancy trying the delicious puddings go for a small main! If Sunday lunch is not your thing the mains are equally good from the menu. Relaxed atmosphere, locals, a slightly shabby interior welcoming Muddy Boots and dogs, all make the Bridge the perfect dales pub.

Arrived at 1.30 for Sunday lunch. Only to be told they’d ran out ! But the specials menu was still available... so opted for the belly pork. When it arrived I was let down by the fact there was no crackling around the pork just pale fat. Accompanying this was some hard dry cold mash ( that looked as if it had been scraped off the side of a pan !) and then some mustard seeds chucked in. Unfortunately this isn’t where it ends. Poured over this creation was the “ special smokey sauce “ which I can only describe as what tasted like coffee/ stout and hot water mixed together.... In fact I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. I can still taste the bitterness now. I’ve been a chef for over 25 years and would never dream of putting a dish like this in front of anyone. I’d much rather of been told they’d ran out of this too instead of it been hastily put together. I did try my best to eat it but just couldn’t. Shame because only returned as had a lovely Sunday lunch a few weeks before. I complained but still had to pay full price. Won’t be back in a hurry.

After a day out in the Dales yesterday we decided to stop for a pub lunch on a Sunday and as soon as you walked into the Bridge Inn the atmosphere was very pleasant and the landlord could not been more helpful. It was quite busy but had adequate seating both inside and outside. There were quite a few locals enjoying their Sunday dinner time get together over a pint as well as a lot of hikers looking for somewhere to eat. The menu had a lot of choices including starters, main courses and desserts but we decided on the traditional Sunday dinner and went for the pork. Well when the plate arrived we could not believe the size of the portions and it also had a great range of vegetables and a home made Yorkshire pudding. The meal was excellent and it was nice that it was cooked there and then on the premises, not pre-cooked like some pubs that you visit. The pub had a great friendly atmosphere and it just topped off a perfect day in the Dales. Well done to the staff and the locals for making this such a good day and will definitely be back.

Starter and desert excellent. Main okish. Had squid for starter, tasty, moist, lovely portion. The home made ginger sponge was excellent for sweet. The main was the beef, good sized portion however, the meat was laid over a vast mound of mixed vegetables, 3 roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding completed the plate. It was a shame there wasn’t any mashed potato. Service was fine.

Although the menu does not appear to change much what is offered is good, flavoursome and value for money. The wine by the glass is good and the atmosphere in the main bar area is good, as is sitting outside if weather permits. We enjoyed our visit so much (would rate as very good) that we returned but had to sit in another part of the pub which was cold, sparse and was nowhere as good an experience - hence the average rating overall. We rented a nearby cottage in the community and the Bridge Inn was a very short stroll away, so we dropped in numerous times for a drink and twice for meals. I see in other TA reviews of this pub that others have experienced a cool reception, as did we during a number of our visits. We are a quiet couple in our 60's and while we smiled and tried to be as friendly as a tourist can be, we didn't feel all that welcome here (not outwardly rude, just "cool", 'though the folks that we spoke to in the community during i walks were all friendly to us). This was the only establishment that we experienced this during our 5 week stay in the area. As mentioned, we ate here on two occasions, ordering the pub's daily specials which were fine and the ciders and the various ales I tried were all good.

This time the food was average and the bar staff off hand. Perhaps it was a bad day. There were plenty of people in the place - a lot of locals with dogs and thirsty walkers. We were here as a party of 5 hungry cyclists. We were placed on two tables - despite there being a empty 6 place setting nearby. The waiting staff (H) wasn't exactly helpful or cheerful. At one point - he told us to be quiet! There were two other diners in the corner. The restaurant was otherwise empty! If anyone spoke - it was going to be heard.... he also suggested we couldn't examine the menu. He took it from us and found out out there were pages missing, as we thought. He didn't make light of his oversight. The food was OK. The chips were originally frozen and my Brie wasn't very tasty. But hungry cyclists left none. The gammon was thin and a bit chewy. The beer was good though. The cheese board wasn't available. Said they had sold out. Having left slightly before my friends - I went to the car park alone. I started the engine - then heard a massive thumping noise on the passenger window. The bar man had followed me out. As soon as I lowered the window - he stated 'have you payed'? I was gob smacked. Obviously my integrity was being questioned. The money was left with my friends I told him. He didn't apologise for his oversight either. Totally rude. Don't think I'll eat here again.

Booked two weeks in advance for dinner on a busy night as many (including us) were attending a concert in the nearby church as part of the Swaledale Festival. Serving staff were functional but polite, clearly under pressure to serve numerous folk as the pub was busy with festival goers. The vegetarian brioche bun I ordered with mushroom & goats cheese was very nicely presented but I discovered an unfortunate burnt plastic taste around one side of the cheese, as if perhaps a plastic wrapper had been left on during grilling/griddling. If we had not been on the clock to get to the concert I would have asked for an alternative as it was unpalatable, but luckily I had eaten most of the other side of the cheese which was tasty; I had the opportunity to give this feedback to the barman when he took payment for our bill, as he was good enough to ask if everything was okay with our meal. This was the only downside for an otherwise enjoyable meal and is the reason The Bridge Inn is knocked down one mark from 'Very good'.

Always a great welcome here and food beer to match. This is a pub for us that fits the bill, not only in the pocket but with the food, starter, main, puds and beers, add to that the atmosphere, banter and pets its great any time of year.A warm fire helps warm the hands after a cold walk around the dales.

We've waited a long time to try the food at this lovely, honest and quaint pub, as we have a young dog who has only just settled down enough to stay for longer than a pint! It was well worth the wait and the friendly locals gave up their seat by the fire to us as we wanted to eat - what more can you ask? The beefburger was amazing, huge and juicy with lots of tasty homemade sides and great chips. The veggie option was also lovely - very well flavoured mushrooms and cheese on ciabatta but I reckon the chef could make a cracking proper veggie burger with some chick peas or lentils....maybe next time please?! Liz's ginger sponge pudding was utterly gorgeous and something we'll order again. We'll be back in February!

Was staying nearby for a week prior to Christmas. Drove past a few times and finally near the end of the week, popped in for some lunch.Great place, fire on, dogs in the pub and......silence. Apart from people talking. No music, no machines and no mobiles... What a pub used to be.The food was good hearty meals but done very well. Many pubs make pub food, but they all do it fairly average. This was by far better than others.Black pudding with belly of pork and the Lasagne but made with highland beef, both delicious and properly home made from scratch. Not many pubs left like this.

On the face of it this charming pub is an ideal haunt; perched over a stream in a quaint area of North Yorkshire with the obligatory open fire. As we were dining with the Bridge Inn, we were escorted past the cosiness of the warm front roomed pub and through to the dining area. Save for the adorned fishing rod and questionable fish tank, the room is quite pleasant with large solid wood tables & chairs lit with candelabra. I ignored in vain the green fish tank and looked upon the a4 papered menu. Ribeye steak caught my attention but we were briskly told that 'the steak dishes are off' which inevitably included the steak pie. Disappointing. Our orders were taken and out came the starters within a reasonable time frame. Now, I appreciate that pâté is never a great choice for a hungry diner however not much can beat it when home made with proper melba toast. Unfortunately, what arrived on my plate left a lot to be desired. Notably the portions all round were huge - far too much for first courses.Moving on, our main courses arrived and in a similar fashion, piles of food were placed in front of us on plates far too small to cater for the dishes. I ordered monkfish wrapped in cured ham partnered with green pesto crushed new potatoes. The monkfish (despite the too salted ham) was delicious - the potatoes were not. I'm a fan of pesto and to be fair pine nuts are always welcomed to my plate but the dish simply didn't come together.A note on the service - training required. When ordering a bottle of wine, I like to dispense with the formalities of tasting. I'm not a sommelier, the wine will be reasonable or nice and generally speaking the waiter doesn't care. What I do very much like is the wine being opened and left on the table alas this simple step was overlooked. Even after asking for it to be opened we were handed a waiter's friend which not everyone can use with ease. Fortunately I'm more than able and we enjoyed the white rioja. Top marks on wine but not service. We ambled through to the dessert course of which again only half the menu was available. At this stage due to the chill of the room I was wearing a borrowed jumper and scarf. Presumably business is good at the Bridge Inn so it wouldn't harm flushing the radiators and putting them to good use to the areas which do not benefit from the fire. The warm brownie was a treat much to the avail of my plummeting body temperature but you may sigh a breath of relief readers, as I did live to tell the tale.If proper procedures and staff training (and of course food ordering) was dealt with the Bridge Inn would be great. This visit wouldn't particularly inspire a second but if I were to find myself in the area again I would be inclined to give the place the aged benefit of the doubt.

Visited pub for a drink in front of open fire. Mobile went off, told by a member of staff, who had been banking the fire but stayed to tell me that"mobiles are banned, they are anti social!" Ended call after 10 secs. queried "what if an emergency?" "Oh that would be different!". Told there were signs up in pub re. ban....None to be seen anywhere! Extremely rude, not a very nice welcome to visitors. Spoilt the day no need for such attitude! Makes Basil Fawlty look polite!

This is an old pub in a great location and has a good wine list. The food is well prepared and my main of slow cooked lamb shows they have a good butcher and chef. They could be better equipped for vegetarians, of whom we had one, but overall I felt they did a good job and the prices were fair. Two of the specials were over with our 19.45 arrival. The scallops and chorizo was a good starter.Talking about wine they decorate the place with some bottles that would have been a dream to drink.

The food was above and beyond what you would normally expect from pub food. We had a delicious risotto, wonderful fish and chips (the best we've had in the UK) and a tasty pie. The pub itself is also very inviting and friendly, and the staff were helpful and efficient. I'm not surprised this is listed as one of the best places to eat in the north Yorkshire Dales.

We visited here on a Saturday evening. As there were 8 of us I had booked beforehand because this was a birthday surprise. Most of us had starters. The soup was home made and the portions were very large and were served with bread. The deep fried Brie was very tasty and came with a side saldFor mains we had a variety - gourmet burgers, pie, fish n chips and chicken. The portions are very generous and everyone enjoyed their meals. The main courses are around £10-£15 each. Looking at the menu some meals are served at cheaper prices during the day. Whatever! The food was delicious. We didn't have sweets as we were all too full!Recommended for any cyclists doing the Yorkshire Dales tour or for anyone passing through Grinton.

Visited midweek lunchtime. Had booked a table but it wasn't too busy. The bar man was very friendly and chatty - he could easily get a job in a travel agency with his knowledge of overseas holidays !!!! The menu was varied with a good choice. Daily specials also available. Our food was delivered promptly and was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. A bit above normal pub prices but worth every penny. Good choice of beers and wines. Would visit again.

Pros: classic Yorkshire village pub, friendly service, outdoor tables (for when it's not pouring with rain), very friendly mix of locals and tourists, children and dogs everywhere, splendid range of cask ales, no mobile phones allowed, no background pop music, no giant-screen television. Cons: pricey food, although it was very good.

Very pleasant location and varied menu. The food this night was not very good for one of us and good for two. The prices are city prices for a village pub which would be fine if a Gastro pub but is not yet. The staff seem keen to help. I suspect this is a work in progress

Good one night - bad a few days later. Seven of us arrived for dinner and we all really enjoyed the food, service et all. Served by polite and friendly guy who looked after us well (though the restaurant was empty apart from another couple)Went a few days later, just myself and my Mother and we had the opposite experience. The waitress had no waitressing skills. The guy who was taking orders left us in a seating area for 30 mins (only a handful of diners in the place) It was a full hour before we were shown to our table to eat. Mum wanted to eat there, otherwise I'd have gone after 20 mins. Food was nice, but all we ordered was a simple Cod and Chips each. All in all hit and miss I reckon. Won't be hurrying back though.

We call here for lunch everytime we are in or around Reeth and its always consistently brilliant food and great value for money. Big chunky baguettes with plenty of homemade chips and salad and great ale. Bar staff always really friendly and dogs are welcome. We have also been on an evening for supper which was equally as brilliant. Will probably be back next month.

Came here with a bunch of cyclists - we were staying in Dales Bike Centre. Bit pricey but the food and drink was worth it. Lovely staff who were more than willing to recommend the different bitters on tap to a bunch of Dutch guys who knew nothing about bitter!

We called into this pub for lunch as it is the perfect stop if walking along the river from Reeth. The pub served excellent real ale and a good choice of food. The service was friendly and our food order arrived after a reasonable time. My wife chose a sandwich which was served with chips and a salad. I had a burger which was from local beef and tasted delicious. My only criticism was that the burger was slightly too well done for my taste but the salad was fresh and the chips were good. The portions were typically Yorkshire and neither of us could finish our food!

A friend and I dropped in for an early dinner whilst walking locally. We tried all 4 real Ales and enjoyed all of them. We then had fish and chips which was reasonably priced. When it arrived I was a happy chap! the fish was fantastic with crispy batter and on a bed of minted peas. So good we went back the following night for a repeat! The Bar was cosy and staff welcoming. Well worth a visit.

We visitors here on a Thursday evening after work. We decided to go here as had only heard nice things about the food. As a lover of food from previously being a chef before having my son I enjoy trying new places. This is one we have tried and enjoyed. Hopefully we will get chance to get back here to try some of the other treasures on the menu. Both of us had burgers ( myself the veggie) both are served on a wooden board in a delicious toasted bun with salad and tomato relish with homemade chips and onion rings. Both of us enjoyed our meals and our son especially enjoyed the childrens sausage mash peas and gravy All too fun to try the desserts but our next visit we plan to skip the tasty tasty tast starters and try out the dessert. Defo going to recommend to friends and family And plan to return

Stopped here today after finding this on Tripadvisor. We were warmly welcomed and given the option of sitting in the bar or upstairs (very steep stairs) for waitress service. We chose the Ploughman's Lunch, where you have the options of choosing 2 options from: cheddar, Stilton, brie, prawns, beef or piri piri chicken. The plates were full of colourful & tasty food; the beef was plentiful and tender. It took us ages to get through and unfortunately didn't have room gir a dessert. Another customer couldn't manage her lunch, and she was offered the option of having it packaged up and taking it home. We will be back next time we are in the area to try something else off the menu!

Went for breakfast! What breakfast? No pastries, just bread and fruit. Slow service when it came to replenishing the cooked breakfast buffet and lots of empty dishes and basket. Not impressed and won't be going back.

I live a mile from Brome hall and have never visited this place before! Why I ask myself? Took my mum for afternoon tea today. A warm friendly welcome. The tea was awesome. Couldn't fault at all. Perhaps next time and yes, there will be a next, the conservatory would have been wiser so we could have a sleep on the sofas. Sunday lunch is also on the agenda.!!
