I liked the atmosphere in the Cafe and enjoyed my deluxe hot dog which was good value and tasty. The owner's dog adds to the character of the cafe. I plan to visit again in the future.

Well possibly the strangest place I've eaten at. On the plus side there are vegan options but the table was small, the crisps tasted stale, the dog constantly barked and the lady who was running the place was constantly shouting at her... it was almost amusing but if you're not keen on dogs then definitely steer clear.

Have to say food was lovely and fresh. BUT should owner’s dog be allowed free rein of the cafe and food preparation areas? Also, the dog spent most of its time yapping at every car that drove past and any patron standing up! Was not a restful lunchtime treat.

I have visited this cafe a couple of times. The menu caters for both vegans and non-vegans, the service was lovely and the food was freshly made and delicious. A cute little dog wad in there making it feel a relaxed family environment. I look forward to visiting again.

Walked in the door to a yappy dog barking at myself and my children and after that things didn’t get any better.. we had a voucher for buy one get one on a hot drink and cake.. there was no cakes whatsoever available so asked if we could have waffles instead (same price) and was told no, was also told that a hot chocolate was not included in the ‘hot drink’. The woman behind the counter was very rude so we walked out. Will be avoiding Penelope’s from now on! Such a shame it changed management because we used to be regulars when the previous person was managing it.

I met a couple of friends on a Saturday afternoon at Penelopes as they have a good selection of vegan cakes- or so i thought. We walked in and was met with rude staff and dirty tables, in hindsight we should have just left then but i wanted to give the place a chance. We ordered coffee, a cheese sandwich and 2 vegan cakes. It took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive! The bread was stale, the cakes were dry and the coffee was bitter and lukewarm. When we politely complained to staff we were again just met with rudeness. Avoid at all costs.

Mum and I popped in for lunch yesterday. The service was great and there were separate vegan and gluten free menus offering a wide range of options. I ordered a savoury pancake with avocado and hummus which was delicious and Mum had a jacket potato with baked beans. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced and we'll definitely be returning!

The cafe is very small and far too many tables crammed in. We felt very pinned in to the point that we were delighted when someone left so we could get a bit more space. Just losing one table would help. Food was very tasty and cooked fresh but blimey it was slow to come out. Nearly 45 minutes for something that even from scratch shouldn't have taken more than 20. Shame as this is the second visit and first time wasn't much quicker. Good place if you want tasty food and good fresh coffee but not if you're in a hurry and in any way claustrophobic.

Popped in yesterday with my Mum, 2 diners with coffee & one other waiting. Got a table. Cafe very small, but good atmosphere. Woman behind counter was friendly & saying she wouldn't do shift on her own again. Ordered 2 lattes and some food. Approx 12.15. Lots of conversation across cafe about how busy it was. Another 2 came in after us and 2 guys stopped for takeaway cake, and a takeaway sandwich. Mum got her cheese scone, cold not warmed and with fake butter. I gave up on getting my sandwich at one, assuming I was still in the queue, but realised quickly that my sandwich had been forgotten. Very apologetic. Left at one, they had ten customers during that time and were flat out. No geared up for any kind of effect lunchtime service. It's a shame I had wanted to support a vegan cafe, especially in Dereham where choice is very limited. This is my third visit, first was good, the second was a Sat, and again a very slow chaotic service, with I think 3 checks from them that the order was right. Really disappointed.

We went here during a visit to Dereham and we were very happy with the service and general friendliness of the staff that work there. I was most looking forward to the gluten free pancakes but they also offer gluten free scones, cakes and many other things. The small but cosy café seating gives the place a nice feeling. The food was delicious and the staff understood about cross contamination which was reassuring. As the café is small I think it deserves some recognition and I hope that they will provide the same and even more gluten free dishes. I was very pleased that this café was awarded with the shop of the week in the Dereham times as my mum wrote that. Overall, a very nice café with friendly staff and great food for anybody!

I went to the coffee shop last year and was very dissapointed with the products, dry stale cake etc. Anyway I thought I would give it another try today, as my friend is gluten intolerant , I gaga get to meet her inside, I was early, but while sat there waiting, I was looking round and noticed that the cake containers withe the dome clear plastic lids, most were empty and one had a very dry single slice of cake in it. No fresh cakes or scones were to be seen. The place did seem busy, but with loud people shouting across the room to each other, not a nice quiet, restful surroundings..I was extremely disappointed and as soon as my friend arrived, we walked out and went to chattels across the road and have a nice clean coffee and excellent fresh scones............

We called into penelopes for lunch as my wife had been there before for a coffee. She knows how fussy I am with my coffee I was not disappointed. The Coffee was the proper stuff with the ground beans superb. I had a baguette which came stuffed with tuna mayo and sweetcorn some salad, homemade coleslaw and crisps my wife had a pannini again with all the extras. Service with a smile a couple of really nice lads. Would thoroughly recommend this little gem to anyone. Will def be back again.

whe i went into cafe, two young boys/men were chatting, they served me coffee and i asked for a peice of cake. it was brought over to my table..i called him over to say that the cake was very dry and not edible, he gave me a refund but did not offer me anything as a replacement, which i was disapointed in.....it was the last slice in the cabinet and obviously stale and not kept in the ideal container..... was very dissapointed, dont know if will bother going there again...

I always used to eat here on a regular basis whilst living in Dereham and it was always a very pleasant place to go with lovely snacks and homemade cakes . I have since moved away but was back this week to visit friends and we went in for lunch . I am pleased to say that nothing has changed , the food is still as good I had a baguette whilst my friend had a Panninni the food always comes with a lovely salad and the best homemade coleslaw I have ever eaten out . We were served by one of the sons of the owners as they were away on holiday but he as always was very polite and nothing was to much trouble . Thank you for a lovely lunch and I will see you on my next visit to Dereham .

Stopped here today after finding this on Tripadvisor. We were warmly welcomed and given the option of sitting in the bar or upstairs (very steep stairs) for waitress service. We chose the Ploughman's Lunch, where you have the options of choosing 2 options from: cheddar, Stilton, brie, prawns, beef or piri piri chicken. The plates were full of colourful & tasty food; the beef was plentiful and tender. It took us ages to get through and unfortunately didn't have room gir a dessert. Another customer couldn't manage her lunch, and she was offered the option of having it packaged up and taking it home. We will be back next time we are in the area to try something else off the menu!

Lovely cosy pub, nicely decorated ahead of Christmas. Good lighting and brilliant service from Scott, it's so refreshing to have a happy waiter/server who is genuinely good at their job! Sadly, the food was disappointing. Under cooked vegetables and very sad looking roast potatoes on the festive menu but a good proce considering portions.

I live a mile from Brome hall and have never visited this place before! Why I ask myself? Took my mum for afternoon tea today. A warm friendly welcome. The tea was awesome. Couldn't fault at all. Perhaps next time and yes, there will be a next, the conservatory would have been wiser so we could have a sleep on the sofas. Sunday lunch is also on the agenda.!!
