What a gem of a place. A proper home cooked Sunday lunch followed by a delicious apple crumble with lashings of custard. I would highly recommend a visit.

A lovely traditional old pub ... the team depended on the boss-lady behind the bar, who was pulled in all directions. The small dining-room has a low ceiling and medieval small windows. The menu is supported by the Specials Board, from which I ordered Morecombe Bay brown shrimps and Cumberland sausage in a batter pudding. The shrimps were nice, but there wasn’t many of them. So to the sausage; tasty but it seemed like half a portion. Prices are very reasonable, but I'd have rather paid more for bigger portions. All in all a nice place for a meal, if you're in the area.

We've been at different times of the year as we live near and the food and atmosphere never fades. Good honest food not tarted up and price pumped, just delicious. It is dog friendly but as it is busy we tend to let our dog have a night at home. For a small pub the menu is varied. Popular with people on holiday as well as locals it's definitely a place to try. I'm told Sunday lunches are tremendous.

Came across this lovely olde worlde pub by pure chance having been turned away at others in the area who classed us as 'walk ins' - got a real warm welcome even though busy and a lovely cosy atmosphere. The food was excellent from the roast beef dinner to the game pie to the lamb henry and finally the bbq chicken breast all had the trimmings as well and what value for money will certainly be calling back when in the area !!

Good honest tasty food in a traditional country pub, would highly recommend. The steak pie is unbelievably tasty and very meaty, perfect puff pastry and with the best chips ever, The gammon steaks are great with 2 sizes available suited our group. A good choice of deserts, especially the trifle and the sticky toffee pudding sundae. The staff were friendly and professional, from the hosts to the waiting staff, who were constantly on the go, keeping busy serving food and keeping the tables clean. One of the waiting staff did a great job with our desserts. Ps the drinks were spot on, beer is good too. If your out and about in the lune valley or nearby, it's worth popping in but would recommend booking a table. Will definitely be going back!

This is an unspoilt country pub which we visit regularly that has remarkably avoided the usual Farrow & Ball treatment. It is cosy & friendly especially in the bar area where there is often a bit of local banter going on. On entering it appears quite small but there are other dining areas & in warm weather a lovely beer garden ! Although not cordon bleu the food is tasty & good value, indeed much cheaper than the norm as is the real ale. There is a large carpark across the road which needs care when crossing ! Can recommend when visiting the beautiful Lune Valley !

We went to this pub for a meal back in October after having it recommended to us by a friend, and really enjoyed ourselves. It's in a very characterful Grade II listed building dating back to 1744, run by really friendly staff, feels very cosy and welcoming. The menu is standard pub grub fare, and feels like travelling back to the 1970s, but is all done really well. We went back again the other day, in a larger group, and had a great time again. Well, after driving past this pub every weekend, we were always passing through and not looking for food/drink. We were actually on our way to another pub, when we spotted they didn’t serve lunch, so we carried on down the road and accidentally stumbled upon this gem of a pub, whilst absolutely ravenous! How glad are we that we stopped to try I think - it all definitely be a firm favourite! We parked our car in the small car park opposite the pub and crossed the busy road - we then realised there was disabled parking on the front of the pub, which will come in handy next time!We were immediately greeted by Mia - a very friendly, gorgeous dog who stole our hearts right away! We realised that it was a dog friendly pub, which was great for future visits when we have our dogs with us!The next person to greet us was the landlady who gave us a very warm welcome. It was when we sat down that we looked around us and saw lots of traditional beams filled with pennies, brass ornaments and a cabinet of miniature spirits - I could of looked around our surroundings for hours, but within minutes the landlady brought our menus that we requested - the specials board was enough in itself, but we browsed the extensive menu too! I’d be shocked if someone struggled to find something they loved! Our family of 4 decided on the following:I chose sweet & sour from the special board, with half & half chips and rice, whilst my husband also chose from the specials board and settled on the steak suet pudding! Our teenage daughter chose the “small” gammon with pineapple and chips, whilst our 12 year old son went for his favourite barbecue chicken with cheese & bacon - he chose boiled potatoes as he’s not a fan of chips. A serving bowl arrived with the meals filled with beautiful fresh veg: carrot and swede, broccoli and cabbage!I’m not sure wether our surroundings were keeping us distracted, or whether the food seemed to arrive in super-speedy time! The plates were so hot that they had to wear heat proof gloves to serve them to us - this is always a good sign! The plates were huge and filled with the hottest food I’d ever been served - we all tucked in and burnt our mouths at first, but oh my goodness, we were all speechless as the food was amazing!!We cleared every last scrap of food off our plates, which is always a sign of great food! After saying goodbye to Mia and being licked to death, we paid our bill and left.We know 100% that we will be back - I actually can’t wait until our next visit. The only negative thing I could say, if I was really being picky, is that the Diet Coke that we ordered was on the flat side - I didn’t want to bring this up as I was just loving looking at everything around me, and it’s was our first visit. It wouldn’t stop us going back and having Diet Coke, it’s just a tiny niggle.

Tried to get in somewhere else on our way to our holiday home early good Friday evening - but it was booked up, so decided to try here having eaten here a few times before. Luckily for us they had a table. Lovely staff and a cosy welcoming pub. Ate in the dining room which we’d never been in before and which was bigger than expected. Great menu choices and specials too. All food served piping hot and promptly. Generous portions and very tasty . Loved both starters of tempura prawns and Morecambe bay shrimps, then meat and potato pie with great chips and veg and the sweet and sour chicken was the best I’d had in a very long time - with half chips half rice - so good!! Unfortunately we had no room for desserts which looked equally tasty - huge individual trifles came out which were just one of the choices. Great value for money. I must confess at the outset that this is "my" local pub...but having sampled most of the pubs in the area I can thoroughly recommend this one....if you want a warm welcome/good atmosphere with good beers/other drinks and good value for money pub grub with a varied menu then look no further.....it's difficult to think of anything negative to say...one could observe ...if you are an avid steak muncher....that they only have sirloin steak ( which is very good btw) available...if this would be a problem for you then go elsewhere where there is a wider selection of steaks....but otherwise give it a go.....

Spend a lot of time in Bentham and surrounding area but travelled a little further afield this time, so pleased that we did! This pub is excellent and the landlord and landlady were so welcoming, the weather was a bonus so we sat in the beer garden for a well deserved pint and lunch after a long walk. The menu is varied and very reasonably priced. We went back the evening after for a smashing steak and onion pie - lean steak in a delicious gravy and yet again great value for money. The pub is further on through the village of Wennington so don't give up and turn back - you will be sorry!!

A beautiful setting, a warm welcome and delicious home-made food makes The Bridge Inn a real winner. Visited around 6pm on Sunday with family - we hadn't booked and it was busy and getting busier so be warned and may be book in advance, but we were accomodated with the minimum of fuss. This is a 'proper' English pub dating back to 17th century. It has a small bar with extended dining room and is quaint and old school with bags of charm and character.....as do the staff! Landlady (not sure of name sorry) is lovely with just the right level of informality to make you feel like you're dining with friends!Dad and I had steak and kidney pudding and wife and Mum had gammon. I'll guarantee the steak & kidney pud was homemade - suet pudding, 6" across, packed with lean meat and NOTHING like the mass produced stuff you get in a chippy! Gravy awesome too! Gammon lean too, perfectly cooked and not too salty. All served with proper chips and veg or salad. Puddings ranged from fruit crumble to banana split and all delicious too. £56 for 4 x mains, 4 x pudding and 8 soft drinks tells its own story of that rarest of combinations - value and quality.Let me be clear; this is hearty, uncomplicated 'home-made' food cooked by a chef that seems to care, served by staff that are warm and friendly and all in a lovely country pub. If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a relaxing evening (or afternoon).....look no further!

We called in here in July, then again in August. Each time we had dinner and each time the food which was home-cooked was great, the service friendly and the price reasonable. It's a cosy, traditional pub and I'd recommend it. In particular the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was excellent.

Hello, we chanced upon this delightful pub last busy Fathers Day when we were enroute fromHarrogate to Morecombe. What a fabulous find, we were welcomed by the Landlady and her staff who were fantastic. My husband and I were with our Son and his partner who live and work in London, so theywere enjoying the whole countryside ride also. Although they were very busy and I was doubting they could fit us in,my fears were allayedimmediatley by all staff. If we didn't mind just waiting while they got a table ready for usthey could accomodate us no problem, which they did whilst we enjoyed a drink at the bar.The food arrived very promptly and was really delicious.High praise for the service ,ambience, food. We told the Landlady we would come again if we were ever in the area. Its worth a trip out.We noticied a caravan park ajoining the car park, so a suitable stop for you caravanners also. Thankyou again Landlady and staff, keep up the good work.PS.There was a good choice of real ales on sale also.

As a tourist stopping in this pub... Cheap beer, cheap enough food, good service. But I would have liked to have seen the "new price list" apparently beginning that day as soon as we walked through the door... im 99% sure that it didn't apply to the regulars propping up the bar lol.

Having arrived without a booking twice within a few days (first 6 people then 4 people) we were greeted so warmly by the staff and made to feel welcome by the landlord and landlady. My wife's uncle who is 89 was intrigued with the little poems and ditties on the wall and the landlady even copied one for him,The food was good English food and was excellent and very tasty. The setting is superb in a building with a lot of character. We will not hesitate to call again whenever we are in the area.

Visited on a Sunday for my partners birthday celebrations whilst staying in Lancaster. Excellent friendly service by everyone and one of the best Sunday roast dinners we've had in a long time! We also stayed for the pub quiz afterwards, which was great fun with a friendly quiz host, and we didn't come last 🙂 Our first visit to Lancaster and, therefore, to Merchants 1688, but we will be returning to both! Whole heartedly recommend a trip here for a meal. Thanks.

Fab real ale pub in a great location right on the canal in Lancaster. I counted 10 cask ales on tap. My Titanic Plum Porter was a beauty. Even on a drizzly Halloween evening it was a delight! 🎃

I love this place especially your crispy cake slices. But your hot chocolate today was not good. Didn't complain as haven't got the time but far too much cream and marshmallows in hit chocolate so there felt like no hot chocolate to drink and what was there was not hot. Go easy on cream !

The weather had turned very wet and I had my little grandson in his pram Went in to order but was stifling to find vegetarian as I was dripping water in my eyes Girl tried to be helpful but it came across as a bit condescending. When I'd ordered she said sorry cash only. Who does that these days!! So I had to go back into the outing rain. If it was my pace I'd have offered a cup of tea or a towel The young woman who used to be there was lovely It seems to have gone down service wise My friend who can't see well said they were very rude to her too sadly Shane as it's a nice menu and cafe
