Great place to go for food. Always rammed at the weekends, and rightly so, so be sure to book. The food is superb, whether it's a roast or any of the other options. Doesn't try and reinvent the wheel, just does good simple food, really well. I had the steak and ale pie and mash today and it was perfect. Great venue.

Outstanding roast and lovely service. Cannot recommend this pub more- will bring back family and friends. Well done as we are both very fussy when it comes to roasts and we were both very impressed! The owners have really upped their game both in terms of product and service and this place is highly recommended.

Just had a great night with friends at The Bridge House. Food and staff were both excellent, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere was exactly as it should be on a Friday night. Serious burger envy over my mates’ towering plates, but the perfectly-cooked Cajun salmon, minted broad beans and garlic tenderstem was a winner. Fat fluffy chips on the side? Clean plates all round. Thanks, Bridge House - you’re doing Penge proud.

Enkele keren deze mooie pub bezocht terwijl we logeerden in Melrose House. Pub is naast overgrond station Penge West.

We’ve been here on an off for about 5 years. Always topped off our family trips to Crystal Palace Park. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was amazing - some of the best burgers I’d eaten anywhere. Great menu, decent portions lovingly presented and well priced. Perfect. Returned after a year or so to a stark looking and grossly overpriced burger list. Over £14 for a simple burger and chips which when it came an hour later was as basic as they come and the chips were awful. Seems they’ve dialled down the quality and care and hiked up the prices. If the inflated prices are to recover from lockdown fine I get that but don’t then send the quality in the other direction. Expensive looking decor updates might explain things. Style over substance now sadly. We’ll have to find a new post-park pub.

Quick business meeting at lunchtime in October last year. All mask, social distancing and tracing requirements/regualtions in place. Just 2 of us, both had a large soft drink, both had the Fish Finger sandwich which was very good indeed and we shared a bowl of fries. Service prompt and as always here, very friendly. At a few pennies over £20 the price point is about right. Go there and have the Fish Finger sandwich (you're welcome).

Since the pandemic turmoil begun last year I have only visited 3 places (included today’s) and the Bridge House, invariably, delivers with good food, lovely drinks, perfect atmosphere, good service, decent prices, all of which in a pub looking dashing as always (thanks to the owners which have managed to offer us locally what so many have failed to do and usually with a much higher price tag). Thank you very much for such a pleasant experience! We will be back and that more often!

Gastropub that’s amazingly priced ! Which is rare for the area 👍 let’s just say I’m Northern but spoilt in Cheshire for value for money when compared to London when it comes to eating out and pricing. When you find a pub like this with amazing food, atmosphere, choices and service too what is there not to like. Gorgeous spaced beer garden, immaculate interior and super clean it’s a 5* from me. A fabulous afternoon and please send our compliments to the chef for our nibbles we had, unfortunately we didn’t take any pictures but the sharing platter, nachos and other nibbles we ordered to share were an absolute delight. Thankyou

I've frequented this pub on multiple occasions and have to say the staff are always very welcoming and efficient. However the owner/ manager of this place is rude, dismissive and lacks customer service skills. On the last occasion I visited, I was with my brother and nephew who were visiting for the day and were due on a train to Brum within a couple of hours or so. Due to the short time frame we opted for a couple of drinks and chips and chicken bites/wings. After 50 mins we received a refund for our food, which of course, never arrived. There was no apology from the publican who was just very dismissive. I wouldn't recommend anyone t go there as the food is average but overpriced when/ if it actually arrives and the drink choices are pretty standard. Luckily, now there are 2 other options to go for a pint nearby who seem to be run by people who understand the value of the customer experience.

We were in the area for visiting Crystal Palace Park, we left the park and visited the Bridge House Pub. We entered the pub, and made our way out to the garden we didn’t order food on this occasion just two pints of home brewed beer, The pub was very welcoming, and I bet would be very homely in the early evenings as it is close to Penge West Overground station 🚉. In summary the pub house, was not a BRIDGE to far from the park, so if your visiting the park,it’s a lovely place to stop off at.

Lamentablemente me equivoqué mucho.

On visiting the pub on a recommendation we popped in yesterday lunchtime and ordered fish and chips. On receiving the food I immediately asked the waitress what was on top of the fish batter as it looked like a curry sauce of sorts, she just looked, shrugged and walked away.I had a white serviette to which I put to the top of the fish and it turned a dark yellow which I immediately knew was a stomach churning old frying oil,it was literally swimming in it.The other plate was not much better. In all fairness the manager came over and immediately agreed that the food was unacceptable and gave us the money back.It may be that the roast on a Sunday is ok and they have a different chef but I definitely won't be going back there.

I usually love this place, great venue and lovely staff. I wanted to write this just to let you guys know about our visit yesterday I came with my husband and our one year old around 5pm for dinner and honestly couldn't of been more let down :( my husband and I had the beef roast dinners and l ordered the kids fish and chips for our little one. We ordered from the waitress at our table who was very friendly and our drinks came very quickly but then having to wait 50 minutes for our food to then be served roasts where all of our veg was burnt, the yorkshire pudding was more like a very dry dumpling, the beef was over cooked and chewy and the whole plate was swimming in 2 inches of a very rich gravy. My little one couldn't eat his either the fish was more just very oily batter barley any actually fish inside and the same with the chips they were dripping with oil. If we hadn't of been so hungry from waiting or the waitress would of came back to our table at all we wouldn't of ate any of it but we didn't see her again after having the plates for around an hour I went upstairs to the bar to ask for the bill it was quite sad to see that we were being charged a whopping £59 for what had been served to us :( Definitely won't be returning for food again. This really is a great venue so i really hope they have a look and there quality of food and steep prices!

First off wasn't keen on the very dark décor.Three of us went for Sunday lunch we ordered 3 lime and sodas which arrived quickly but had to ask for more lime. 2 of us had the beef roast. We waited 35minutes for the meal to arrive which was to long, we got the feeling they had forgotten us. The food looked appetising and there was plenty of it but that's where the good news ended. The veggies were not piping hot the roast potatoes were dry and the meat was so fatty it was almost inedible. The waiter came to clear and I showed him the serviettes which were piled with the fat he was a bit taken aback and went into the kitchen and came back to us a few minutes later and asked what he could do for us, we said we just wanted the bill we were offered free deserts which we declined as well as the coffee also declined. We just wanted to leave, The bill arrived they had deducted the price of the 3 lime and soda's. Big deal. Sorry but a Sunday lunch at over £16 a head deserved more than a couple of drinks deducted. Also the website states they are doggy friendly but we didn't expect that to mean they would be in the dining room with us, The bulldog underneath the next table being fed off its owners plate and the yappy dachshund did not make a pleasing environment

Its a pity about the crazy prices cos the stuff are nice people and the place is not bad at all; quite nice, even though the heating wasn't on downstairs in the quiet part.... £13 for such a low quality burger + some chips (7 only) it's way too much; Whetherspoon's are actually better and around £7 only. And it's warmer in winter...Anyway. So these burgers were flavourless and did not have anything special at all, no lettuce, no onion, etc.; I tried some in other places with caramelized onion and other creative stuff... yum! that was delicious... but these ones were boring, dry and quite small. Even the bowl of chips had only 7 counted chips and the hummus that comes in a separate continent made out of paper (...?) was of the size of a thumb nail... Seriously?? Then you ask for mayo and they bring it in another of these paper continents of the size of a thumb nail... For £13 could be much more generous, specially considering that most of the hummus and mayo was wasted in the walls of that inconsistent paper thing... Disappointing experience

It's 4.30am as I lie here suffering the after effects of a really awful meal served up at Bridge House pub in Penge. If their cook reads this and has any modicum of dignity he or she should instantly resign, hang up his or her apron and change career for ever. What utter rubbish! The food was SHAMEFUL. I would wither in complete embarrassment if I served up food like this.Herewith the facts will follow:1. My friend and I enter the pub around 7.30 on Thursday 20th October 2. We go to the bar order drinks choose a table and sit down.3. Bar staff were excellent. Quick and dynamic4. We then order 2 fish and chips one with sweet potatoes and a starter of squid and capers to come with main meal.5. Food took between 25 to 35 minutes to arrive.6. My fish was simply over cooked, dry and small. This was utterly inedible. Chips were soggy and not at all crisp. My friends portion was a bit better but still over cooked. He left his chips. Both portions of mushy peas were stone cold and straight from the fridge.7. I raised a complaint. The waiter agreed took my food away, came back and said "order what you like" I ordered a hamburger (not exactly haute cuisine). Asked it to be medium rare. Hamburger arrived some 15 minutes later with my friend's mushy peas! Great timing as he had ended his meal some 20 minutes earlier. The Hamburger was OK but overcooked.8. Asked for the bill. They duly didn't charge me for one portion of fish and the hamburger. 9. Waiter agreed that they need a new cook. Waiter also informed me that we were not the only ones this has happened to and that the cook "must be starting out".10. The after effects at 4.50 in the morning are nausea and running to the toilet.I've eaten better food in the markets of Zanzibar and shanty towns of Laos. This is London for God sake! This place used to have really good food. The ambience and decor are really good. The waiting and bar staff very good all let down by some wanna be chef who isn't a chef but a complete and utter idiot.Sorry must dash to the loo, stomach rumbling like Vesuvius!!

The Bridge House is a fab pub with an excellent and varied menu. The food is reliable and generously-portioned. Fantastic split level beer garden (including an adults only section), excellent pub quiz and a super theatre upstairs. Great friendly bar staff.

Paid £75 yesterday for 5 Roast dinner's and never needed to complain, but seriously over priced Roast beef was awful, gravy bitter and salty, Potatoes very hard. Truly disappointed as treated my family, had to apologise as was so bad. Should of asked for a refund but never like to complain.

I like this little pub. Never had a problem with the food, basic pub grub mind. Good selection of ales, not too overly priced generally. Has a great beer garden for the Summer. Also has a theatre upstairs. Worth popping in to check out.

We were here to see the performance of 'Wild Thing' based on the life of Oliver Reed! We had a drink and ate in the pub first. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I had the chicken noodles, it was cooked well but the sauce did not match the dish at all. It was too dark and very spicy which made you wonder what meat you were eating. Although the food was hot it was only average and I have had better quality food at a lower cost. The drinks are also very pricey. However, the show was totally fantastic!!! I have to say I was extremely surprised at how much I enjoyed it! It was brilliant. I had not been to the pub since it had changed to a Gastropub and I had never been to the theatre upstairs. The theatre is very cozy, seating about 40 people which means you are practically on the floor with the actor which was great and so much fun. I would definitely go to theatre again but not eat at the pub.

We moved nearby last year and in the coming weeks realised we now live by one of the best pubs in London. Food is always fresh and delicious. They ask you how you'd like your burger! :) menu changes frequently with the seasonal food too. Staff is always superb. Anytime family visits we go for lunch or dinner. Atmosphere is always happy and fun and they even do theatre performances and movie nights which we were lucky to attend. Cannot say enough good things about them!

We went to a performance of 'Wild Thing' based on Oliver Reed's life story which was excellent. We had never been to the pub or it's theatre before and we really enjoyed it. It is a very intimate little theatre, only sitting about 40 or 50 people, so it was very "in your face' but great fun. The staff were very helpful as we had our elderly mother with us and we had to negotiate a flight of stairs. We were let in first. Later we decided to eat in the pub. We moved tables twice as the doors to the outside smoking area were propped open and all the smoke was coming in. Even the smokers in our group found this unpleasant. The food was the usual Gastropub fayre, with posh burgers, sausages and mash etc, on the menu. None of the food was particularly good and on average mains were 12 quid a piece so average price for the type of food. I would have rather paid more for better quality. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and overall it was just the food which let the evening down.

Place has gone down hill . tables outside dirty and sticky and as for the toilets they reek. Food is overpriced and underwhelming. I paid £15.50 for a roast beef dinner and it was stone cold with chewy meat. Staff are nice but I would say the Goldsmiths up the road is much nicer, cleaner and reasonably priced.

I'm not sure if this place has changed hands when I read through some of these reviews but they are totally opposite to the experiences I have had there. The food is very good I think- a cut above the normal for a pub. There is a huge beer garden. The place also seems to host a cool array of events from theatre to live comedy and pub quiz etc.So seems like it has lots of different things to offer people. Its dog friendly which is great for my Labrador and the staff have always been excellent- particularly a young gent by the name of James who first time I went there bent over backwards to look after us and our dog!Really good place and up there in my favorite venues in the area for a cool hip sort of pub with good food.

I have been here plenty of times as i live in this area. It is a dog friendly pub, you can sit with your dog not only in the garden of the pub but inside the pub as well. The staff is very kind and every time they welcome my dog. The food is avarage pub food, but the atmosphere is very good. They even offer free dog biscuits to your dog. I wish there was more dog friendly places like this.

Not very busy on a Saturday night, so that tells its own story I suppose, the locals must have sussed the place out. Dog friendly and with a mixed bag of welcoming and dour staff. Very expensive, very average beer.I've been around the block a few times, and can safely say I was served the worst fish and chips in my life. Inferior quality, straight from the freezer. Staff attitude gave the impression that to complain would not be in ones best interests.Best to avoid, there must be better alternatives.

Went to Penge for the day, it has to be done, this mysterious place at the end of the 176 bus route, and had a very nice lunch in this pub. Opted for the burger with sweet potato fries and while not cheap, £13, it was satisfying and the quality of meat was evident. They also had a hog roast on and have a theatre/festival coming up, definitely worth a visit and close to Crystal Palace

I wish I liked this place more! The space itself is attractive and it's location next to Crystal Palace Park makes it an appealing pit stop in an area with a distinct lack of good boozers. So why do I find myself regularly underwhelmed? Is it the fact that the I want tonorder beer often seems to have run out? Or that the menu is unadventurous pub fayre and overpriced at that? Penge West deserves better!

Special treat with our son and his partner, after a walk around Crystal Palace park he took us into the Bridge House which he had previously booked (recommended for a Sunday!). Usual selection for a Sunday Roast, I had Pork Belly and wow, what a fantastic meal and plenty of it!Slightly quirky feel to the place with a theatre/event space connected to the pub. Dog-friendly as well, which was great!

We have quite a chequered history with this pub, having visited before we moved to the area in 2014. The first time we only had finger/bar food, and some cheeky rose. But sitting in the sun on the top terrace (no children allowed....at any time.....:-)), made for a very pleasant and memorable afternoon (albeit the staff were a bit rubbish when it came to delivering food to the right table).Fast forward a year. The service was still rubbish, the quality of the food had declined, and it was all just annoying - because this pub has got a great layout and location. It could be brilliant. Two weeks ago, we were told there was a new chef and a new manager, and that we should give it a go. I'm glad we did. Great service, terrific food, and some lovely rose prosecco. So that's a tick. But £4.50 for a pint?? You're having a lend. This needs some serious rethinking, particularly if you position yourself as a place to while away a lazy afternoon in the sun. That's too rich for that branding.

I visited here for the first time and had dinner. The pub was quite quiet for a Saturday night, but this was perfect because we had gone for dinner. The decor of the pub is quite dark so I am not sure how this would work in summer, but for a rainy winter evening it was perfect. The food was very good.

Really lovely pub in a nice setting under the viaduct, nice decor, very cosy, gorgeous beer garden in the summer. Great pub quiz on a Thursday evening from 8pm and there's also a little amateur theatre upstairs that does little shows throughout the year. The food is OK although not *incredible* but the atmosphere is always pleasant. Drop by!

OK gastro pub but way overpriced! The food was ok but a bit plain to be honest. I had Shepard's pie & fresh veg and the veg was just lots of carrots and nothing else! Obviously everything was served on anything other than plates, chopping boards or what not that I find extremely pretentious (check out wewantplates.com). Very gentrified but fairly pleasant and clean inside. Pretty good bloody Mary!Be aware that this place is crawling with kids in the day! We went on Saturday lunchtime and almost every table had kids running wild! Don't get me wrong I love kids and I have no problem with them in pubs but this place seemed more like a creche than a pub!

We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime, and had to wait for a very long time (over 1 hour) for burgers! These were okay, with rather unpleasant cold chips. The price (£12) seemed very expensive for what was offered. The pub was very busy, but cold as the heating wasn't turned on.

Went for a pre christmas gathering with my partner, 3 of our friends and my daughter. The pub is nice, and has great decor. We were there late on a saturday afternoon (3pm). The service was slow, after about 10 minutes i had to go and find a member of staff to take our order even though it wasnt busy. My partner and i both ordered the Chicken and mushroom pie. About 10 mins after the order was placed we were told there was only one pie left so my partner ordered some salmon fishcakes. My chicken pie had absolutely no chicken in it, it was mushrooms in what tasted like chicken soup under a pastry topping. My partners fishcakes were not hot, and again, didnt have much salmon in them, it was mainly potato. One of our friends had the Macaroni cheese with bacon but had to leave most of it as it was so salty (the bacon was not chopped up in the macaroni, the rashers were put in whole). We complained about the chicken pie and they removed it from the bill but i would rather have paid for a good pie (its not difficult to make a good pie!). I feel the pub presents itself very well but the food doesnt live up to what i would expect. A shame as it close to us but we wont be going for food again.

I am slightly bias here as live quite literally a 5 minute walk away but we really like it here.We rocked up just after 9pm last night and at 9.15pm placed a food order. No problem what so ever, even though they stop serving food at 9:30,. I've been to places where they say 9:30 but really mean they've switched the frier's off at 9 so won't take your order any more...Anyway we ordered a few smaller dishes (our usual) & as per usual it was all really great: chips & mayonnaise, chicken kebabs, prawn and sweet chilli sauce & new to the menu melted feta & bread (sooo good). We also always have good banter with the staff - they are always smiling, happy to have a chat & I think are currently providing a speedy service.Things that could be improved: if the football t-shirt/top thing is true then more signage is required. We always see (and stroke!) plenty of dogs in the pub so we can guarantee it is dog friendly (it has dog biscuits in a jar on the bar for goodness sake - and they're free) but if you're dog(s) smells then....kids, it is very kind friendly. As such we actually steer clear on a weekend in particular a Sunday as it can get a little over run.Helpful Hint: have the melted feta, buy tickets for a production at the theatre upstairs definitely pop in pre/post Crystal Palace park walk.

Just look at the reviews. They say it all. It's consistently inconsistent. I've had some nice times there. But more rubbish ones. A year ago the staff were just soooooo stupid. They never knew who was next at the bar. The tiny bar. With one person serving and 5 more running around not serving. They couldn't read your table number even though it was painted in letters 2 foot tall. This has changed. The waiting staff are much better. But the kitchen!! Seriously? Went there a couple of weeks ago on a sunny weekend. Arrived late lunchtime and told we couldn't order for 20 mins because they were busy. So had to go back to the tiny bar later to order. I ordered the goat's cheese quiche as it was really nice last time. Now, I have ordered things that I've had before here and they have arrived in a completely different form from last time, but this time they plunged new depths. Instead of a goat's cheese quiche, I was served goats cheese on toast. Obviously we pointed this out and I have to say the guy serving us was mortified, I suspect he knew that what he was delivering bore no resemblance to what was ordered. He was lovely about it, but what kind of kitchen serves toast instead of quiche without a word of apology or warning? We've given them endless chances. This is a a (supposedly) dog friendly pub very close to the park with a big beer garden. It should be our regular. We should be there every weekend. But we've had enough now. We're not going back. Which is a massive shame.

Although a pint of soda from the bar tap is free, the price for a pint of the same with a dash of lime cordial (or any other cordial) is £2.50.When this was discussed with the manager he agreed it is expensive and he has had several complaints about it, but the owners are not willing to change it.

I wrote a review before stating that the staff didn't have a clue, and although I stand by that since then it has changed. The staff now are much better in terms of welcoming customers. They have a great bunch working there, since going back in there they have been nothing but fantastic. The food is still not amazing but its not what you do, its who you do it with and with the staff they have now I couldn't be doing it with better people. Much praise for the front of house staff.

Oh my goodness, what has happened to this fish bar?? Used to go there every Friday before I moved away from Biggin Hill, but what a shock I had last Friday getting fish & chips for my elderly mother. Slow service with miserable faces, very dirty uniforms being worn by the staff, hair not tied back fully on one of the girls serving. Also, a very young boy helping behind the counter, which surely must be a Health & Safety concern with all the boiling fat!!! Safe to say, I won't be returning to Salisbury's Fish Bar, Main Road, Biggin Hill again :0(

This place has the potential to be a nice pub but based on my personal experience, we will sadly not be returning. It was a sunny afternoon and we decided to come to Downe Village for a nice pub lunch. I noticed there were people eating inside and nobody was seated outside. With it being a sunny day, we thought nothing of it and decided to sit in the beer garden. Within minutes of our food arriving, a black fluffy cat jumped onto the table, stuck it's bum in my face and started eating my food! I tried to shoo it off but it wouldn't budge and I'm allergic to cats. When I went inside to tell a member of staff, her response was "it lives in the garden. Just shoo it away." But it never went away so I went back inside again to tell them and it took her forever to do anything about it. By the time she came out, the cat had eaten half of my food. I appreciate there's not a lot they can do but atleast come out and pick up the cat and take it elsewhere if a paying customer complains they're allergic! Not only that, when I got home, I checked my card statement and noticed they had taken 10% service charge which wasn't shown on the receipt (only food and drinks.) I think that's rather cheeky considering there was no table service - we brought our own food, drinks, cutlery and condiments to the garden table and afterwards I even took the dirty dishes back with the cat's leftovers. A very disappointing visit.
