Called here for drinks and cakes and they were all ok and price ok.a limited menu but some not available.seems to be kept open on a shoestring, maybe fallen on hard times like we all have, anyway basic inside i wonder if the owners have ran out of money as place looked run down and needs investment.prime location but poor cafe, tables ,seats, decor and serving counter all need rethink, also toilets upstairs and you pass what looks like another part of the business closed down and very scruffy.a young lad and women served us but not the most professional but pleasant.honest review will try others when back in area.

Just arrived for a long weekend and called in for a drink. Miserable male served us who needed a good wash. Having dirty hair isn't a good look in a cafe. Drinks were cold. Staff just wanted to shut the place and go home. Glad they had stopped serving food. Couldn't be bothered complaining, no tip given. Avoid this place.

My wife, 3 yr old daughter & I had a lovely sandwich lunch here. The friendly staff very kindly let my daughter have a sandwich that wasn’t on the menu. Downstairs was busy, so we went upstairs & had it all to ourselves. It’s really spacious upstairs & there are huge windows offering great views of the harbour. Go upstairs, if you can! Overall, it was good value for money.

Called in for breakfast over the Easter weekend; what a treat! We ordered the small breakfast and a cheese omelette both of which arrived quite quickly and both of which were really lovely. Piping hot and obviously all freshly cooked. We will definitely go back whenever we're in Whitby, the cakes looked lovely and the service was great. We nearly didn't go in because the net curtains on the window make me think it was a bit of a greasy spoon place from the outside, but it was anything but, quality ingredients beautifully cooked and a lovely atmosphere, couldn't have asked for more. .

Brunch in the Bridge Cafe today, what a treat! We were made to feel so welcome from the start thanks to the lovely guys serving us who were very friendly and helpful. The food, albeit simple, was delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot and delivered to our table quickly. We had breakfast baps, a large English breakfast and a warmed scone and devoured the lot. My daughter and I also shared a delicious slice of homemade Victoria Sponge. We thought it was very reasonably priced too. Great service, super friendly staff and excellent food, what more could you want? We'll definitely return next time we are in Whitby!

After a lovely explore of Whitby, we were in need of a cup of tea and a sit down. We just picked here as it was convenient to where we were at the time. This seems a popular place already as it's clean, tidy and the prices are reasonable but it could look even better with a makeover. For starters, lose the nets and take down the faded print outs stuck on the glass. It's in a fabulous position with great views and plenty of passing trade.

Staff appeared friendly and we were welcomed in. Orders taken. No other tables waiting downstairs and on venturing upstairs we saw 6-8 other diners. Sat on table nearest to the bar. Off duty staff chatting to working staff. 2 more diners went upstairs, 4 left ! All very nice until I asked after 40 minutes why we were still waiting and was our food nearly ready. Female staff member said she had just sent male staff member upstairs to check! He came back, said something to her and she reported to us that our food was in the fryer. I asked why our food was only just being cooked - 3 x fish and chips in a Whitby restaurant - not a difficult order I'm sure you'll agree and she stated that they had been busy serving the full restaurant upstairs?! We'd been upstairs, clearly a baseless lie covering up a forgotten order! We waited a further 10 minutes and decided enough was enough! We got up, paid for our drinks and left. I said to the male staff member that why he didn't just admit they'd forgotten us I'd never understand! We will not go back! Apparently a deliberate spelling mistake (twice) on the blackboard only confirmed their incompetence! This was my daughters 8th birthday meal by the way, so doubly disappointed!

Wife said it was the best fish she had eaten in a long time. Called here for coffee on a pretty miserable day, weather-wise, because everywhere else was either full or didn't look very nice. Couldn't pin down the style, initially, but I suppose you could call it mixed quirky. Coffee and service were both good and we felt very welcome. The loo is upstairs, but the staircase is wide and the banisters substantial enough to provide support if necessary. The loo itself was OK. Views from upstairs windows are, as others have said, wonderful. It's a place I plan to return to for lunch.

Went here for lunch as told it was a nice place, it is a large site with two floors we went upstairs and we were only people there it was empty. The menu was large with lots of choice I had to visit the toilet before selecting food it was dirty and smelly that put me off. The wall paper had dark patches on it, there where some beautiful windows over looking the harbour they were dirty and covered in seagull mess. For such a nice building was shocked lack of customers, at 12.30pm and need of TLC looking at some of the responses of the manager I am sure there will be some back lash for this review, but sorry needs improvement sorry!

We were in Whitby on a July Saturday night and as usual the town was very busy. We tried the two popular pubs on the other side of the River- The Board and the Duke of York but as is usually the case when we try there, all tables were taken and would-be diners were hovering, trying to spot a soon-to-be vacant table. Not a relaxing atmosphere at all. We tried a couple of other options but all quoted a wait of between 30-45 minutes. We then crossed the bridge and spotted the Bridge Bar and Brasserie. The menu looked ok-standard pub fare-what put us off was that it appeared quite empty. There was a bar area downstairs though this wasn't solely for drinkers and would have been ok to eat in, with around 3 tables populated and a couple of people sat at the bar. Given how busy everywhere else was we were suspicious at why this place wasn't full. We 'ummed and ahhed' a while then decided to give it a go. The pleasant waitress offered us a table in the resaurant so we went up to the first floor and this was totally empty. However there were a number of tables set in the bay windows with nice views across the harbour . We ordered a steak pie and a fish pie. Both were tasty and filling and we both enjoyed our meals. Not too loud music compensated fgor the lack of other diners. With a bottle of wine the bill came to around £40.They mystery was (and still is) why this place was so empty when other bars and restaurants were packed with diners queuing for tables. Its in a prominent enough spot so it can't go unnoticed, food was good as was service.Forget queuing on a busy night at the seaside, give this place a try!

We came here for lunch because of the harbour view. I had Moroccan chicken tagine, no chips or couscous, but bowl of salad instead. My husband had meat pie, chips and peas. The tagine was tasty, salad a little minimalistic, meat pie and chips tasty, the chips definitely home made, irregular shapes and skin on, great. Our service was good and food piping hot. The place was nearly empty, which is strange given how busy the area was. The Bridge is looking rather tired I'm afraid.

Some of the best views in Whitby and great views. There's a bar downstairs although you can eat there too, but the main restaurant is on the first floor with spectacular views over the river/harbour and bridge to Church Street. Interesting menu with fish dishes, burgers and chicken, tagine. We had the steak pie which came with chips and peas. Perfect, with super chips cooked in possibly beef fat, super, and lovely gravy. I had chicken in pesto with salad but didn't fancy chips too - but was offered sweet potato chips instead and took them up on it. Very glad I did. Fantastic sundae for dessert with cherry ice cream! Good cocktail and mocktail menu, don't drink beer so can't comment on beers, good wine list. Nice place to linger with drinks esp on a fine evening. Good for couples or families. Nice waiters with good attitude.Downstairs is probably wheelchair accessible but no lift, and loos are upstairs.

My friend and I visited on 6/7/17 as we fancied a dessert and a drink before bed. We were disappointed that almost everywhere seemed to shut at 7.30pm so had a bit of a wander round. We stumbled on The Bridge and... well.... what a find! The staff were friendly, welcoming and so so helpful. We sat in the window with lovely views over the harbour. My friend had the cheesecake and I had the brownie, we both felt our desserts were dreamy and would not hesitate in going back another time to try "real" food from the menu. We shared a bottle of Prosecco which was reasonably priced and nice. The music they had playing (a mix of old and new indie) created a lovely, chilled atmosphere. The cocktail menu sounded amazing, I would definitely have tried one (or three!) had I not been sharing a bottle of Prosecco.Being open till late, a brilliant atmosphere, delicious food and a stunning view makes this place a perfect find! In Whitby for a long weekend, my wife and I were desperate for something other than yet another 'fish and chip restaurant, with a steak pie option' walked past and despite the ground floor being empty (surely not a good sign when they're queuing elsewhere?) we went in. Upstairs we were one of two tables occupied. The waitress was very friendly and pleasant. We were offered a table by the large windows to enjoy the view of the abbey and harbour. We had Brie wedges as a starter to share, which were good. Main course we both chose Gammon steak. The gammon was large and (to me and my wife) perfectly cooked. The chips were described as 'hand cut' and despite other reviews we loved them! Skin on, tasty and some of the nicest chips I've had for many years. If you want bland production line chips go to the chip shop with a restaurant. After the mains I decided against a dessert, opting for coffee, my wife had apple pie, which she declared 'delicious' with light pastry. Our waitress was attentive, checked all was well and unlike many restaurants when she came over, said "excuse me" before enquiring, unlike most "everything alright for yous?" Even if you are in the middle of a conversation. All in all a present place to eat, with good service and straightforward food well presented and cooked. I'd eat again, as the couple on the next table obviously had.

Came to Whitby on the steam train, and thought we’d try the world famous Whitby fish and chips. Well, don’t come here! We were served fish that was beautifully cooked, and chips that had lain for quite some time, then been reheated. I asked for fresh chips, and these at least were fresh, and edible, but unfortunately still cooked in oil that had been around for some time.Surely it’s not to much to ask to have freshly cooked chips, using fresh oil! How could they present people with chips that look as unappetising as this (and taste even worse!) We would have given this 1/5,but the fish was good, so 2/5

On a visit to the area we were enticed in by the steak pie advertised on the Menu. We were seated upstairs and our orders taken. We were disappointed to find that after placing our order the steak pie was out of stock. The nachos were advertised with a home made salsa which consisted of a few cherry tomatoes and red onion thrown on top of some melted cheese crisps ! The kids meals were advertised as having hand cut chips so they were disappointed to receive dry oven chips. Also overhearing the people on the next table requesting a baked potato instead of chips they were told this wasn't possible, probably because they had used all the potatoes on the so called hand cut chips.Come on at least try be flexible for goodness sake ! I dont often write negative reviews however when your in these tourist places I feel that eateries let you down due to the nature of new people coming week after week, therefore finding it ok to serve mediocre food, well its not , more effort required.

This is the worst experience, I have ever had in a restaurant in the UK. We had the Morocan Chicken Tagine, the beef burger and the veg chilli. Generally the food was just bland, soggy and just below average. However, the burger was literally raw in the middle but well done on the outside. Visited 5th November 2016. There were four of us. Welcomed and shown upstairs and asked if we wanted drinks which came quickly. It went down hill from there. The room was draughty to start with. We ordered our food, the staters came reasonably quickly and were just passable. Our mains arrived but it was quickly obvious there were problems. The plates were freezing cold. The chicken wasn't cooked properly on two meals. There was no taste to the steak and the scampi was luke warm. The waitress was informed but just said"Oh I'm sorry" and walked away. When asked for extra cutlery was ignored and had to get our own from another table! Lovely establishment but run by kids. When manager informed there was no remorse or recompense she was just sat at bar downstairs! Toilets were a total mess but yet the place wasn't busy but no one had checked for cleanliness. We had lunch here during a half term trip to Whitby. As a family of four adults, two toddlers and a pram we were welcomed warmly by the waitress and furniture rearranged to accommodate us. Service was swift and our coffees were with us in minutes and after an acceptable wait our lunch arrived. Our BLT's had to be one of the best for miles, lovely thick rashers of delicious bacon in a crispy warm baguette with side salad. Our children's meal was home made chicken nuggets made with chicken breast, not reformed chicken, and delightful hand cut chips. We were seated downstairs but the upstairs seating would have a lovely view of the harbour. All in all we had a very good experience here and would certainly return should we be in Whitby again.

The worst service I have ever encountered, anywhere in the world. Came in for lunch, ordered and waited for an hour.... nothing came. Asked where lunch was.... nothing came. Left and went somewhere else. Please, please avoid this place. It's the pits.

We visited with two friends who were on holiday from London. This was our second visit to the restaurant as the first visit was very nice. This time downstairs was full so we were told to go upstairs ( not disabled friendly.) the waitress seemed surprised to see us and gave us a handwritten two scraps of paper when we asked for the menu. There was a " meal deal " of soup and sandwiches which we ordered. We were told anything beef was off. The soup was hot ( there was a choice of tomatoes as the mushroom was off, ) it tasted like a can of tomatoes whipped in vinegar and I didn't eat it at all. The sandwiches were awful. I ordered tuna melt. It came as two slices of thin white processed bread which had been I think toasted but still pasty white, with tuna and lumps of white cheese stuff as the filling, no melt! No salad, no baguettes. We left them. My friend had the pulled pork which was mush. I have never felt so embarrassed as we all left without eating much or saying anything. As we went out everyone downstairs had proper menus and nice looking baguettes salads and chips . We will not return , such a shame as it had lovely views of the harbour we wanted our friends to see .

Booked a table at this restaurant for a special occasion. Surroundings are lovely and it has a lovely view of the harbour. We were greeted immediately and taken to our table upstairs. We ordered drinks which arrived promptly. After that things went downhill. We ordered our food which didn't arrive until almost 45 minutes later. The main course was enjoyable albeit not very hot. After we had finished the main meal we discussed desserts and coffees but no one came to see if we wanted anything nor were we offered any further drinks. The two waitresses were sat at the bar chatting and the waiter seemed to have disappeared.Although we could have got up and went over to the bar to ask for a dessert/coffee menu we chose not to and requested the bill and left instead. They obviously didn't need our custom. It's a shame because I liked the dining area and the food we had was okay. I'm not sure if I'd return again as this was our second visit to the restaurant and last year they spent 20 mins trying to find a corkscrew to open the wine!

We went there for a meal which was terrible. Ordered mussels in white wine cream sauce. It was cold and the sauce just tasted of vinegar... YUK. 2 of my friends ordered chicken tagine which had obviously not been cooked in a tagine and had a few olives thrown in it. Absolutely dreadful. The only good thing was the nice staff and it's such a shame it's so poor because location and views of harbour are good. The owners seriously need to look at their business cos in my view it won't be there very long.

After walking around Whitby on a rainy cold evening trying to find a place that was not fully booked we dropped on The Bridge we were seated straight away the staff were friendly it was a little cool but hey Ho you can't please everyone but we soon warmed up.The service was a little slow but we were in no hurry they made us feel very welcome. We had the Italian chicken marinated in pesto then grilled and it came on pasta with a lovely tomato sauce and garlic ciabatta, well cooked and hot. Also we had a side helping of sweet potato chips they were yummy!Very tasty and lots of it we could not manage a pudding. Most enjoyable evening we left well full and warm

We ate here on a Friday night and the food and service were both excellent. I had Moroccan Chicken Tagine with couscous which was delicious and my husband had Mexican Chicken (beware the dish of very hot sauce which comes with it!). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend-can't eat fish & chips every day!

Disinterested !!Needs to be smoothed around its edges asap Shame as the foods really niceHome made burgers and home made chips I thought the chef had gone to Mexico to get our nacho starters !! Needs improving but by someone who puts their heart n soul into this it really could be little Gem of a restaurant if only socks could be pulled up!!! Disinterested owners doing it for a hobby it seems!

We visited the Bridge, we found it very quiet, we had a really good table overlooking the harbour. Service was slow, even with just six of us in the place. They were out of all draught beers, only had bottles.!Food ok, but spoiled by slow service and what seems a lack of basic customer awareness.

When we arrived for a meal the restaurant was not particularly busy. There was a bar downstairs, no welcome, as we realised we had to go upstairs to the restaurant. A slow trickle of people came during the evening. We had fairly standard fish and chips which we got and cooked well. Staff were polite and did their job. Fairly average experience, EOI.d give 3 1/2 if halves were available to give!

This is the first bad review I have given on Trip Advisor but having read quite a few family reviews of how wonderful this place was, I was shocked that the service we received was dreadful! With a 10 and 11 yr old in tow at 8pm we went here as it was quiet but overlooked the swing bridge and had seats at the window. Getting our order taken at first was quite quick where we ordered a large nachos to share and a large chicken strips to share. When they were finally collected 45 mins after arriving, we were asked if we wanted anything else - "our mains would be nice" was our response! Didn't give us much hope that our meals were on their way. An hour and 15 minutes after arriving we had to ask where our mains were, it wasn't busy, just 3 other couples sat eating but only 1 from when we arrived. Needless to say, nobody returned to explain or apologise. Our drinks sat empty, we had to ask for drinks, empties left on our table, had to ask for cutlery. And even when we had finished we had to hunt somebody down to get the bill. As for the food, one of us had fish and chips which was fine and one hd pesto chicken which was fine but the Mexican chicken and the Italian chicken had the same brown thick sauce on the top, couldn't tell what either was supposed to be and the chicken was very well cooked! You can guess that we will not return here, nor would I recommend. £90 spent on a dreadful meal and service. Not impressed!!

A lovely place to eat overlooking Whitby Harbour. The staff were friendly and attentive, with reasonable food prices. My boyfriend had scampi and chips; I had a tortilla pizza. Both meals were very nice and we would happily return. There was also a good selection of cocktails, although the Dracula's Punch one I had was overpriced at £7! Overall, a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience :)

Visited on the 29th August husband had the burger which he didnt expect to be spicy and I ordered gammon and egg to which the egg came out with the white all crispy and curled and the gammon was black in places. I sent it back I have to say the staff were professional and didn't charge however it has put me off eating there. I try not to slag businesses off and I must say they do have a wide choice of cocktails and mocktails. I had a strawberry mocktail and this was nice I just wouldn't order food again. As a cook myself I would never have let that meal leave the kitchen.

Last Sunday afternoon we ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. After a wait of some 40 mins the food finally arrived. The scampi was burnt but just about passable. The fish was ok. The chips however, were chewy and somewhat soggy. My wife and I just could not eat them. The spoonful of peas we received was just about warm. I mentioned the state of the chips to a waitress who just said that that's how they came! We will not be returning to this establishment.

We (2 adults and a 9 year old) walked in with no reservation, the staff were friendly, the service was quick and when our Whitby fish and chips arrived they were extremely good. Nice view of the swing bridge from up stairs which was light and airy. The lavatory was clean and smelled fresh. Would go back again.

We almost walked past the Bridge Bar as it was empty when we found it. Thankfully we gave it a try and what a great place. Portions are small but the food is very good. Half the price of some nearby neighbours. The chips are particularly good.

We ate here two nights in a row because the food is so good! The meals are cooked from scratch so expect a bit of a wait, but the food is worth waiting for! very flavoursome and tasty! There is a good selection of food here for everyone, including good-sized children's' portions. The service and staff are excellent- especially Kris! The restaurant upstairs has amazing views over the harbour and if you are lucky, you will see the yachts returning in the evening and the bridge lifting to let them in. Forget the Magpie Café, which is highly overrated and eat here instead!

We visited Whitby and walked our feet off to try and see as much as possible (beach and town attractions, shops, the Abbey, the pier etc.). At the end we were rewarded with a scrumptious meal with lots of ciabatta dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and cheesy nachos (with cherry toms, red onion and fresh coriander chopped and sprinkled all over). Yummy! Most of us had the cheeseburger for mains and were not disappointed (topped up with smoked bacon this was even better). Hand cut unpeeled chips and sweet potato chips made the perfect accompaniment. Some had the Italian chicken - though it was flavoursome, the chicken was overcooked and dry (it was breast fillet). All helped down (not that the burgers needed any help!) with lovely ales (though the variety of ales must be looked at as it was a little limited, to say that North Yorkshire produces some of the better ones!).

Had an amazing meal at The Bridge Bar, lovely food! Walked past a few times thinking the place wasn't busy and therefore lacked quality, but when we went in for a the cocktail offer (2 for £12, the Pornstar Martini is delicious) we found a hidden gem of a restaurant upstairs. As we didn't book a table we were lucky to manage to get a table with a beautiful view over the river (although most tables offered a wonderful view). The beautiful upstairs restaurant was full and as we were seated we were informed that there may be a wait for our meals as it is all cooked to order. I ordered the burrito and it was absolutely delightful, the homemade coleslaw was unlike any coleslaw I have had! My friend ordered the Italian chicken and he said it was amazing, the chicken and the sauce was well seasoned and the dish was well presented. We can also strongly recommend the chicken strips, the fish and chips and the Nachos The service was fantastic, Beth, Jo and Tiff made sure that we got everything we needed and were very polite, they never stopped the whole time we were in and did it all with a smile on their faces (even though working in a restaurant can be stressful) . Will definitely be returning to try more of The Bridge Bars specialty cocktails and the amazing food with great service

This is a handy place to eat when visiting Whitby Abbey especially after climbing up the steps. Decent number of tables inside and out. It can get busy and likely there may be a queue. It is part of the Youth Hostel and serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes as well as larger meal options. We all had paninis which were nice enough and the side order of chips were nice. Nothing spectacular but it filled a gap well and with nice views.

Called in for fish and chips to share - £10. Opened the box to find the fish in three pieces. Rancid oil taste to both fish and hard chips. Truly the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten.

Use this pub regularly drinks at good price food reasonable for this type of pub. Comfortable surroundings, not the best weatherspoons compared to many others. Come here regularly could do with more staff.

The cat's pyjamas? Dog's dinner more like. After initially nearly leaving due to the horrible atmosphere we settled and ordered a breakfast and avocado and halloumi on toast with two coffees. Our drinks arrived quickly but the food mustve taken about 45 minutes to come, with no acknowledgement of the long wait. It wasnt particularly busy. When the food arrived it was awful. The breakfast was greasy and badly cooked and I couldnt finish it. The avocado and halloumi on toast was literally a few slices of avocado and overcooked halloumi, on the side of some burnt toast. Dont bother, there are far nicer places in Scarborough.

For a large pub and the fact it was late on in the day on a Saturday, it was very clean and the staff were very polite. Food was good and nice selection of beer.
