I got gluten sick here on April 05 2025. I'm not celiac, just gluten sensitive, so I don't mind cross contamination or gluten-reduced beers, but I got very sick a few hours later. Now after some internet research I think the Northgate Ale was not glutenfree or reduced. The main bartender told me many times it was glutenfree. It was weird for me in the place that this beer didn't have glutenfree written on it while some others have the 'glutenfree' label. I should've listen to my instincts. They have their own type of beers 'Spitting festhers' and guest beers. My advice: you can find there gf beers, but don't believe the bartenders only the labels. If you still want to drink a beer that has no gf label, at least double check whether the brand and name is glutenfree on Google.

My twin brother and I were pub hopping around this part of the city when we decided to drop by The Brewery Tap,been here before on many occasions, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit to here. A great looking pub, interior is superb, set upstairs in the historic Gamul House, interior is superb, high ceilings, eclectic decor and furnishings, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We ordered pale ales from Spitting Feathers Brewery, these were served in excellent condition, we chilled out, warmed up and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was really good, a crisp, golden, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a smooth finish, a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub, its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with ales served in this good a condition by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Brewery Tap we had a great time. The Brewery Tap is easy to locate along Lower Bridge Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning a trip to Chester.

On Lower Bridge street there's an excellent tap-room called the Brewery Tap that offer a range of Spitting Feathers brewery beers and a superb food menu and it's housed in a superb building. The Brewery Tap is in a brilliant area of the city centre were there's some brilliant cask ale pubs. It's located up a flight of stair's as a few pubs are around Chester. The interior is superb as it has a medieval look and feel with many interesting fixtures and features and excellent seating areas throughout it's whole interior and is a joy to visit. This is our first visit to here for year's as me and my twin haven't visited Chester for well over three years. When we visited it was just starting to get busy but we where served in next to no time.On our visit we had a range of Spitting Feathers brewery cask ales that were perfectly served and well priced. Its a superb tap-room in a superb area and well worth going to if your in Chester.(This is my second review of the Brewery Tap). What an incredible pub. The interior is worth a visit anyway despite the fabulous amount of high quality beers on offer. The building is clearly a few hundred years old and has been tastefully restored into a wonderful tap room. Access is via a steep set of stairs, but is worth the climb. Staff are friendly and getting served is easy, even when there’s a queue. Possibly my favourite pub I’ve visited in some time. I loved this tap room.

Came to Chester for the day and looked up top rated real ale/good food pubs. The Brewery Tap didn't disappoint. It's a really nice venue set inside a historic building. The service was friendly and helpful, and all the food we had was excellent, tasty and clearly homemade. Not least, the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The real ale was excellent; the two blonde ales I had were flavoursome and in great condition. I'll keep an eye out for the Spitting Feathers Brewery in the future but doubt they'll come as south as Nottingham. Nevertheless all was spot on here. Thank you!

We have been quite a few times to the Brewery Tap for Sunday dinner, many of our friends also go. Food has always been great and today we booked for us and two friends who have never been before. We were disappointed as we had to wait for 45 minutes for them to take our order because there was a table of 10. To be fair the waitress told us there would be a wait but it doesn’t make a difference, they should still be able to manage with who is in there. At the end of my dinner I pulled something from my mouth and thought it was hard veg it was actually plastic. My friend took it off me and she insisted on complaining. The waitress came back and said did you find plastic in your food and I said yes, they said the kitchen didn’t recognise where it had come from…they took my dinner off (they said). We paid and left. However about twenty minutes later I had a call and I called them back- couldn’t hear from the waitress and said do you want me to come back? Which I did and was then asked to pay for the meal as I’d put the plastic in my meal and they had CCTV ? Seriously? They had CCTV of me handing the plastic to my friend going urgghh what’s that? What upset me was the fact I was accused of putting plastic in my food, seriously we have been in loads, I also offered to pay as I had literally lost a good friend the day before and it’s not really that important. Apparently the kitchen and the pub are different businesses so the ‘chef will be in touch with me’ Very disappointed that I was treated like a flaming criminal - why on earth would I come back if I was. I’m also a lawyer so not something would ever do. And as I told the manager I can afford to pay. Food is very good so not about that just how we were treated by staff.

The Brewery Tap and King’s Kitchen @ Chester, UK 💭The Brewery Tap and King’s Kitchen resides in an old Jacobean hall. It was said to have been visited by King Charles I. It was recommended to me by a local Chesterian English Heritage who was providing tour guide over at nearby Agricola Castle. English Heritage is a charity that cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites in Great Britain. Atmosphere: Casual, relaxed neighborhood pub and kitchen that can be found in an old Jacobean hall. Very popular with locals with take out and dine ins. Service: Order over the counter. Food and drink will be served to you. Staff is friendly, courteous and can provide good recommendations. Food: Ordered their wickedly good Sunday Beef Roast paired with their smashing Lost in Time Hazy ne Pale beer. The Sunday Roast’s beer were tender and juicy, roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, carrots and Swede mash was soft, velvety and sweet, cheesy leeks had a nice smokiness to it, Yorkshire pudding was soft and savory. It all goes well with a side of greens and horseradish. Lost in Time Hazy ne Pale beer paired really well with the Sunday beef roast . It was refreshing, fruit forward, citrus and with the right amount of bitterness from the hops. A perfect summer beer.

Called in for lunch on New Years Eve, beautiful setting and v comfortable inside, cheerful meet and greet, extensive menu as online, we ate an excellent ox cheek casserole and a steak pie, served with well cooked veg., reasonably priced. A great lunch, many thanks, we will return

We had a table for 6 booked for a Saturday night, four of us managed to get there on time, but 2 where about 8 min late. Made to feel about as welcome as a fart in a lift. When it came to ordering food and drinks, that was done efficiently. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. When we came to pay, was waiting at the bar for 5 minutes whilst staff were having a natter. When staff came to the bar, the 6 of us were waiting and two more people had just come in and joined the queue. The member of staff exclaimed "where did everyone come from"? The 8 of us waiting had filled the bar area! I was asked if we were paying separately, to which I said I was paying for 2 of us, I was told we should have informed them that we were paying separately in advance. People should come here dressed in school uniform. You'll get a school meal standard and spoken to like a child. If you want a warm welcome and decent food, go elsewhere....we will next time.
