Great selection of real ales and food is excellent, along with the building it is a brilliant venue for night out. Will (Dave) 😉 and his staff are really friendly. We were in Chester for a week & visited most nights for beer 🍻 & twice for a meal. Definitely the best pub we visited in Chester.

I tried this place out as it was supposed to have several taps on. I was not disappointed. The beers were kept well and they had local beers too. When I visit a area, I prefer local beers, I was pleased this place did this. I had 2 beers and I had their food. Again, the food was excellent. What I also liked was the guy behind the bar asked if I wanted to do a tab. This was very handy to have to keep paying. I would recommend this place as an out of towner and if you're a local who hasn't tried it yet

The Brewery Tap and King’s Kitchen @ Chester, UK 💭The Brewery Tap and King’s Kitchen resides in an old Jacobean hall. It was said to have been visited by King Charles I. It was recommended to me by a local Chesterian English Heritage who was providing tour guide over at nearby Agricola Castle. English Heritage is a charity that cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites in Great Britain. Atmosphere: Casual, relaxed neighborhood pub and kitchen that can be found in an old Jacobean hall. Very popular with locals with take out and dine ins. Service: Order over the counter. Food and drink will be served to you. Staff is friendly, courteous and can provide good recommendations. Food: Ordered their wickedly good Sunday Beef Roast paired with their smashing Lost in Time Hazy ne Pale beer. The Sunday Roast’s beer were tender and juicy, roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, carrots and Swede mash was soft, velvety and sweet, cheesy leeks had a nice smokiness to it, Yorkshire pudding was soft and savory. It all goes well with a side of greens and horseradish. Lost in Time Hazy ne Pale beer paired really well with the Sunday beef roast . It was refreshing, fruit forward, citrus and with the right amount of bitterness from the hops. A perfect summer beer.

Well worth a visit and the prices are not too high. Visited again July 2024. Still excellent. Pay more for poorer quality in a chain up the road if you like, this place ticks all the boxes. This an unusual pub in that entrance is on the first floor. Even more unusual is that it was originally a Jacobian great hall. It's a very well done sympathetic conversion and interesting to look at. They have a great range of real ales and ciders, probably one of the best selections in Chester. The only downside of the pub is the steps. When you've had a few pints and come outside the steps down look quite steep, but it's still well worth a visit.

A nice retreat in Chester - although I've been here when busy, it was a quiet Saturday but I enjoyed this atmosphere. Main meals are competitively priced- a sandwich or snack is a decent price and tasty. The service including waitresses and bar staff (the Manager) was very good. I recommend visiting, not least because the Tudor hall is a historic venue and part of Chester's heritage (food can also be eaten in the adjacent restaurant area.

This location has a real Tudor feel to it, and I can imagine many flagons of fine ale were drunk here in the past. Today's hospitality is just as good - I was surprised to find a guest ale from a brewery in my home town that I didn't know existed, great food reasonably priced, and my first introduction to mead, which went down well with a cheese board.

We were recommended to drink and eat here. Couldn’t fault the beer in anyway, the food however from the bar was the complete opposite. We ordered Gyros with chicken thighs, and our friends the steak sandwich and the burger. There was hardly any meat in the Gyros, the wrap was thick and had been toasted so that it split and made eating it difficult. The burger was overcooked and dry and the steak sandwich was greasy. Admittedly we ate all the Gyros because we’d not eaten for 9 hours and were extremely hungry and it was better than nothing. We weren’t going to say anything but the fact that our friend had left most of the burger prompted the “head waitress” to came across to ask if all was okay so we told her our experience. She asked “what can we do to rectify your experience” so we said we would leave that to her to decide. It appears that rectifying the situation amounted to telling the chef. Would we go again, yes definitely for the beer and the architecture but definitely not for the bar food.

My review just missed being 'excellent' because the Spitting Feathers house bitter was not available (one of the reasons we come here). The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!
