First time to Brightlingsea, decided to come here for a drink and possibly stay for food. I stood at the bar and waited while the bar maid was showing a group of men something on her phone, she looked at me and then carried on with her phone! There were only a handful of people in there, obviously regulars so I was of no interest to the bar maid. This was on September 2nd at approximately 5pm. So unfortunately I walked back outside to my friend and we left. Will not be returning. Never felt so uncomfortable in my life.

I went to the Brewers a couple of Monday’s ago 🤷🏼♂️🤔 Any who…… I can’t tell you how friendly & welcoming everyone that I met, not just the staff but the great customers!!! I must highlight a couple of them: • Aisha (bar manager) What a character, knowledgeable, friendly & dare I say funny 😄. • Tim & Chris I learnt that Tim (although well into his 30’s 😉) is the kid of the pub. His lovely mate Chris welcomed me the moment I walked in & clearly had a look of a lost sheep across my face. • Jo When Aisha’s shift ended, Jo started. Well Jo clearly is the kinda barmaid you want & need for an evening. She doesn’t take any c**p but lovely at the same time. Anyway, I’m rambling on!!!! Get yourself down to the brewers, they won’t bite (well I can’t promise 😉👍🏻)

First visit to Brightlingsea, on a visit with friends, 6 of us in total. On entering the Brewers Arms the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had the Sunday roast and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, she even hunted down some cranberry sauce for us! Will definitely return it if I am in the area.

first of all,I rated the restaurant on our experience of the included breakfast here. The ingredients used are top quality, inc sausage, bacon from the local butcher and the bread(for toast)from the local bakery all cooked fresh and great portions. From what we had noticed of people having main meals, plates always went back clear. The accomodation is basic but very comfortable with everything you need for a short stay and the shared fridge, microwave, toaster, and iron/ironing board is more than you get in some places. The Pub itself,we found to be very friendly and at no time did we feel like "outsiders" as we got talking to some regulars who directed us to the areas and places of interest.I did notice from a review that "Corona not an issue"but in our time at the Brewers, everyone in the bar wore a mask whilst moving about and followed all the guidelines re:hand sanitising.etc.Stacy the barmaid looked after us for most of the time and had loads of local knowledge which helped us along the way.Kevin who runs the place could not have been more helpful so all in all,for £65 a night for a double room inc top quality breakfast,I cannot recommend enough.

I visited this pub on 22 Aug a few weeks after lockdown has been eased. Covid19 obviously does not apply to the Brewers Arms. There was only a token gesture towards keeping the staff and customers safe - a bottle of hand sanitiser perched on a window ledge. From my understanding of the recommended guidelines none of the following has been implemented: - no contact log of customers - staff were not wearing any form of PPE - customers were crowding around and leaning on the bar - customers were not socially distancing - no table service - loud music from the juke box which meant customers had to shout or raise their voices to speak to each other and the staff

Two nights at the Brewers Arms, location is great for the Town and only a 5-7 minutes walk to the Harbour, accommodation has recently been redecorated, no issues at all with any facilities, room clean and tidy and looks fresh. Clean towels each day and room made up each morning, we did have concerns that the room location over looking the pubs outside courtyard would mean it could be a little noisy but honestly we both slept extremely well both nights and we even had the window open. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.

Stayed at the B & B here for a family get together but didn't have meal here as Thai not to our taste. Having had breakfast in the morning very glad we didn't eat here. Poor service, no juice till after we had eaten food despite repeated requests and half hour wait for fried breakfast as chef did only two meals at a time. Band on till midnight then people shouting outside till early hours so sleep impossible. Room ok but not brilliant. Shower appalling - no pressure and alternating between hot and cold. Furniture dilapidated and far too big for room so very little space. Overpriced for quality and comfort.

The Brewers is my local pub which I enjoy visiting whether it’s for food or a drink in the evening. My dad and I had an incredible meal there last night from their Thai menu. It was exceptional. We then stayed for Kareoke with Lee which we usually attend (Thursdays) and this just rounded the whole evening off. The staff in The Brewers were lovely as always and a great night was had all round. Thank you!

I was a bit sceptical about having thai food in Brightlingsea, but the Tom Yum soup and green thai curry was as good as I've had in Thailand. It helps that the chef is Thai of course! I don't smoke or vape but you'd think vapers were labrador-molesters in Brightlingsea. There were more paper A4 signs sellotaped to the walls declaring, 'NO VAPING' than there are photos of Paul Hollingwood in my Mum's downstairs lavvy. Everywhere! Also signs for no children except under certain circumstances - depending on time of day, day of week (whether it was a full moon etc) and age of child, or numbers of children at aforementioned times, etc.. Cooked fresh to order and the portion size was generous without being too overwhelming. Prices are good too; we paid more for very ordinary pub grub at another establishment a few weeks before. I tried all three of the Pad Thai varieties on the menu. Our friends tried the sweet and sour and my hubby had a curry and a stir fry. The portions are very generous and very reasonably priced. This a charming, friendly and well looked after pub/ bed and breakfast, we spent 2 lovely days at the b&b and cannot fault the warm welcome you get when you arrive. Our room was lovely spacious and very clean, the bathroom ( which is always important on a stay) was bright and clean with massive towels and excellent shower, everything we needed was there and if we wanted anything else it was no trouble. Jenny made sure all the female touches were catered for with the lovely soaps in the bathroom to the shimmering throws on the bed to the flowers as you arrive in the room. I had the opportunity to speak to Jenny and compliment her on her warm friendly nature. Brightlingsea is a little gem with quirky shops and a lovely Bistro to eat in . It has a takeaway option everyday except Sunday, that is reserved for a beautiful roast dinner although they have a varied menu. Live locally and decided to book Sunday lunch rather than cook. Firstly let me say the food we had was delicious, excellent portion size and everything cooked superbly.BUT when I rang up to book for lunch I got a rather surly response on the phone from the landlord which did make me wonder initially whether we should bother booking. The pub itself is looking very scruffy on the outside, yes I know there are repairs being carried out to the exterior which is good to see as I believe the building may be listed(?) but the awful wooden railings at the front and wooden smoking shelter leave a lot to be desired. The dreadful wall around the car park made out of painted empty metal barrels and bricks is appalling and makes exiting the car park rather difficult. None of these constructions is really in keeping with such a lovely old building. We were greeted by a young female member of staff and I ordered 2 drinks, told her we had a table booked and she immediately asked us what we wanted to eat!? I asked to see a menu and was told we could go through to the other room. The table was dirty and so was the vase of grotesque plastic flowers that adorned it (why bother?)The landlady was lovely and friendly, the landlord was walking about scruffy clothed and unshaven. Finally after a lovely main course we were asked if we wanted pudding. I asked for 5 mins to let the main go down ,the girl that served us said she would bring us a menu but never did. Eventually I went through to the other bar and asked for the bill. No please , thank you, in fact no courtesy at all. Last but by no means least, was over charged if the roasts are £8.95 each as per the website menu states. Was not given a bill just told the amount. Couldn't be bothered to argue in front of other customers so paid and left. Real shame as food was great. Might try again but not in a hurry to go back .

Went for a drink and something to eat with football friends and I was shocked at the "repairs" this building has been put through. I am amazed that it is allowed to have a brick wall made of old beer barrels and a fence made of wooden decking when it is a listed building! The staff are officious and the majority of clientele seem rough. The glasses were dirty again and the general state of the premises seemed run down.

Went on a Friday evening when a live band were playing. Couldn't get to the bar as people were sat round it and wouldn't move making it impossible to get served and an unused food heater was placed on the bar taking up space for service. But the worst thing was the general state of the pub. The windows were repaired with old pieces of newspaper and the general state of toilets, carpets and drink glasses was disgusting.
