A lush, comfortable greenhouse on a crisp winter’s day, with a sparkling sea-view - a real unexpected treat on a gorgeous coast walk, after a visit to a certain famous Italian cafe earlier. This is the one I’d recommend.

We have been here so many times and had great service and very nice lunch. On this occasion my husband's lunch wasn't brought to the table with mine after some time had passed he went to and explained the situation. The kitchen said they had only received an order for one not two toasties. They eventually brought out a second meal and it bore hardly resemblance to mine. This was a pickle taste with a tiny sprinkling 9f cheese and a minute piece of lettuce that really wasn't worth the effort. We should have sent it back because frankly it was rubbish. Our bank statement came in today we had definitely paid for two lunches. If you eat here make sure you ask for a receipt as our word was definitely doubted.

Very disappointed with our lunch today. The cafe was quite busy but there were still a few empty tables and plenty of staff about. We ordered and our drinks didn't take that long but we waited a while for our lunch then one sandwich arrived which was mine and nothing for the 2 children or my husband. The children were really hungry after a long play in both playgrounds and a walk on the beach. My ham sandwich was awful, 2 white slices (no other option) spread thickly with revolting margarine with one wafer thin slice of processed ham and some salad. The side salad and coleslaw was fine but I couldn't eat the bread. As I was finished I went to the counter to ask about the other 3 meals, the older lady apologised and sent a young girl to the kitchen and she brought them straight out. The 2 kids meals were fine, generous portions and they both enjoyed them but hubby's egg mayo sandwich was a joke. The egg mixture was spread so thinly on the bread it may as well not have been there. For £27 I feel well and truly ripped off.

There was 4 of us went to the maritime centre for high tea. The food was delicious. With plenty of sandwiches to go around in a mixture of white and brown bread. With a three tier cake stand full of sweet goodness. With cheese and fruit scones with cream. Along with other sweet delicacies. There was plenty of tea and coffee with more if required, served in delicate China. The service was perfect with very friendly polite staff. The table was already set up for us arriving and the food was delivered virtually straight away. Put in the sunshine and a great view of the bay made it a very pleasurable experience. Thank you everybody.

This cafe is adjacent to the Maritime Centre on Newbiggin Point and is a great place to stop off for a coffee when walking the seafront. The seating is comfortable and well spaced and the views through the panorama windows are fantastic, taking in the whole sweep of the coast line all the way down to Blyth. The Breakwater is an asset to Newbiggin.

Wanted a drink and a snack before a meander around Newbiggin, so popped in here due to its convenient location. Server at the counter messed up our order - we wanted three paninis but she put the order in for one. Alternative server sorted it out OK but it did mean that we ended up with our snacks at different times which is never ideal. The paninis themselves were very average but served their purpose. Staff all friendly enough. Would I go again? Well I wouldn’t not go again but if I did I’d go with different (lower) expectations than I’d originally had this time.

We were staying in Newbiggin and made a beeline to this interesting building for a coffee and scone for mid-morning snack. It is situated prominently at one end of the lovely sweeping bay. Staff were very friendly and the coffee and scone were good and as with most of Northumberland were very reasonable! We did intend to have breakfast at The Breakwater, but unfortunately it didn't open until 10.00 am, which was a little too late for us.

So, I was at the cafe on the 13th of March and the service was lovely all the staff were cheery and had a good laugh. They were all presented to the top quality. That was until sheila came in. The atmosphere was horrendous and the staff seemed to go quiet. I smiled at sheila to be polite and she gave me a horrible look. If this is how a paying customer is treated I suggest going somewhere else.

A wonderful setting looking over the bay of Newbiggin, however, the windows were a bit grubby and could’ve done with a bit of attention. The two gentlemen serving were very pleasant and attentive. I went for the special of the day which was ham and cheese quiche with chips and salad, priced at £5.25, accompanied by a tea and a coffee brought the price to a total of £9.25.I was very hungry and desperately looking forward to some appetising food, how disappointed I was to be. The meal was appalling, the quiche was void of flavour and seemed like a lump of grease. Probably the cheapest cheese available was used, it looked unappetising and it certainly tasted revolting! The chips were greasy and brown and appeared to have been reheated more than once. I done my best to eat what I could as I was absolutely starving but I couldn’t eat very much, I was never asked how the meal was despite being in the café for around 50 minutes. This cafe could be magnificent, however I believe some major changes need to be made in order to bring it up to a reasonable standard. The pricing isn’t your cheap greasy spoon cafe either, It is reasonably expensive for what you actually get!I will return in a month or so to see if any improvements have been made.

Dogs aren't allowed inside the main cafe which is a bit of a bummer considering it seems a very popular dog walking spot. Also 2 slices of soggy fried bread, very disappointed, food was good quality but swimming in grease! Also very cold in the cafe, freezing outside but not much warmer inside, sat with our coats on. Never been to this cafe before, it was ok but nothing special. It was busy though, so that is a good sign. We had a table by the window overlooking the bay and very pleasant view. However we did move to another table when one became available as we were rather squished in our seats. A young man brought our drinks but what he did not do was wipe the table down and it had jam and crumbs on it which stayed on all the time we were there. I would of thought it’s a natural thing to do that when clearing a table or serving a table that you wiped it down. Saying that he was a nice pleasant young man. The coffee and hot chocolate nothing special and I couldn’t say, oooh! That was delicious and that we would be back. Plenty to see in the centre itself.

There is a great view from the cafe and it is bright and airy. It was lunchtime and fairly busy. We ordered chili con carne. The food didn't take long and the portion was large. This is a lovely little cafe that looks across onto the beach. The food is nothing special but it's nice, just simple soups, sandwiches and paninis. The staff on the till today were very friendly and coped quite well with the rush as I could tell they were quite stressed! The only thing that let it down was one of the staff, a girl with dark blonde hair and bleach blonde ends, who was I think mostly working in the kitchen, brought our food out to us, slammed both plates and cutlery down on the table, didn't ask who each one was for and put it in front of us, just very rudely put it down on the opposite side of the table and walked off without saying a word, and was walking around with a face like thunder. We spoke to another member of staff about this who was quite shocked and apologised on her behalf though. All in all a good little cafe if you need to quickly stop for a bite to eat, I'm sure we'll visit again.

We had our lunch on18th September before booking in at Sandy Bay and had breakfast today before heading home. Both meals were gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. And with view's of the bay makes it an ideal place for a bite to eat.Newbiggin itself is little jewel. And the coffee is superb.

Had a delicious sandwich lunch. Service was very quick & the staff friendly. Sat inside on comfortable seats because all the outside tables were taken, the views are amazing. Only let down were the toilets but I'm not sure if the cafe staff are responsible or the centre staff for cleaning & out of four cubicles two had broken locks.

We Got a special from the board (mince and dumplings) oh it was special alright, only one minute dumpling not much bigger than a 50p piece floating in a bowl of bland gravy flecked with the odd piece of mince it came with freezing cold mash and peas when we complained about the mash and peas being cold it was whisked away to be microwaved then brought back with a strained sorry.Left feeling hungry and ripped off. Anyway the view was spot on not that i will be ever seeing it again.

Called in here with my wife whilst visiting the area. Lovely little café with nice coffee and good selection of cakes at very reasonable prices. Very clean, with friendly attentive staff. Attached to the café is a very informative visitor centre. Clean toilets and Free Wi-Fi. Recommended

Staying for a long weekend at Church Point caravan park and decided last minute to see if we could find somewhere to have a sunday lunch. Luckily we found this cafe serving roast beef which was lovely, plenty of it. Would recommend. Cafe, very nice with fab view of the bay.

My wife and I were in the area and had heard good commentAs about the cafe. As usual, on the North East coast, it was windy so we thought we would have a late breakfast. I had the fishermans breakfast and it was excellent. Exactly as you would hope for in a fry up We mentioned to one of the staff that, from the car park it was not obvious they were even there but it it is definitely worth the walk down to the prom. This is a beautiful bay and the views from the panoramic windows are great. The staff are really friendly. Well worth a visit.

While returning home on a business trip we stopped at Newbiggin to see the Couple statue (in the harbour mouth) and get some lunch. While exploring the harbour we were happily surprised to see there was a new Maritime Centre with, even better, a cafe!It was a cold day and having the cafe 'on the spot' was very welcome and saved us from going into the town, finding a parking place, etc. Lots of parking at the Maritime Centre. The premises are new, well designed and very clean. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The Cafe's food was good and service excellent. The range of food offered is ideal for a quick meal (good tea too!). A feature of the Cafe is it has large plate glass windows giving an excellent view of the harbour. As a final bonus there is a shop (excellent range of items) and the maritime museum (of course).I highly recommend the Breakwater Cafe and Maritime Museum: it is worth a short diversion there if you are in the area to see the harbour, the Couple statue and visit the Maritime Museum.

We visited for drinks and an ice-cream. The coffee was lovely. It was a really windy day, we ended up staying for over an hour. The staff were all friendly. The shop\cafe had a treasure hunt to find baby chicks, which my daughter loved doing.

We stopped in this beautiful area for a spot of lunch. The beach is beautiful. The food in the other hand left a lot to be desired. Onion soup - you mean hot water in which an onion may (or may not) have been boiled. There was no substance to it at all. The 'crusty bread' was a white roll which had been microwaved until it was hot. Mmmmmm. Not good. And they charged £3.50. Choke. Won't be back.

We had great day at Newbiggin Maritime Centre. Great visitor attraction with the added delight of great views when you eat your food. We had hot beef sandwiches with chips. Hot coffee and cake to finish and the price was not daft either. I did a bit of digging about the place talking to a chap who was installing a computer. He is a volunteer. It was built by volunteers and it's run by volunteers. The cafe employs people who have had difficulties getting work. The volunteers were a mine of information about the Newbiggin. I thinks it's great and we will be back. Reading the previous Sunday Lunch review. We will be back for Sunday Lunch. Well done Breakwater Cafe. You got my support .

Despite the gloomy grey sky - the view from the café is great. We first enjoyed a cuppa before lunch as we arrived early and chose the comfy sofas with views of The Couple and beach. We were even able to use the free binoculars that were provided. We then had our Sunday lunch whilst being able to watch holidaymakers enjoying the beach and seeing the tide come in. There was a choice of turkey or beef for lunch and this came with mashed potato, roast potato, yorkshire pudding and 4 vegetables which were presently nicely in their own serving dish. There was already a jug of iced water on the table when we sat down and on a hot and sunny day this would have been greatly appreciated. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine which was a nice touch and it was certainly not a cheap nasty tasting wine either. The service for lunch was definitely not slow despite what other reviewers have said and a reasonable amount of time was left between courses. There was a choice of desserts on offer. I chose the jam sponge and custard. The sponge was gorgeous and the custard was smooth and tasty - not one lump in sight. Another member of our party chose the homemade apple crumble and she said it was the nicest crumble she has ever had - Compliments to the Chef. So if you fancy a reasonably priced Sunday lunch with a new to die for definitely give The Breakwater Café a try.

Dont be in a hurry for your food. The setting is great, the menu looks good but rather disappointing when it finally arrives.Customer service is not great, staff will stop what they are doing to chat to anyone they know who is passing, and they seem to know a lot of people. All in all felt uncomfortable so wont rush back - shame because it could be so good.

What a shame - having visited this prime-positioned cafe several times before, my recent visit left me extremely disappointed and quite embarrassed. On this exceptionally cold and foggy day I was quite excited to show friends the Maritime Museum and Breakwater Cafe. We made quite a detour from our route to experience, as I raved, the wonderful homemade soup and bakery produce. However, I was speechless to find that the wonderful homemade soup was a tin of chicken soup with a few matchsticks of carrot and celery added and the bakery produce was almost bare (at 12noon).We sat down and ordered four bowls of soup only to be asked immediately for the money. 'We always ask for the money before the meal' the waitress said, as we looked puzzled and paid up. Yes no wonder we thought as we ate the soup.Won't be back. Doubt if it will survive. Really such a shame.

We stopped off for lunch here and were satisfied with the food and drinks. We all had paninis which came with a reasonable salad garnish. Both the filter coffee and Latte were fine. I was surprised to see all the negative comments. This cafe is in a prime location so I hope it maintains a good standard. It was busy when we were there and I didn't witness anyone looking dissatisfied.

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
