Had dinner here a couple of weeks ago and was really looking forward to it. The only way to really describe the whole evening was average. The food was ok , service ok , drinks ok it was all just really average. The bill however for three people was a tenner short of £300.For this money I would of expected better. Would I go back? No. Should you try it? That's up to you. Fine dinning it is not but it's far from the worse place I have eaten.

My wife and I dined here as we were staying in the Lodge. Plus points: very pleasant service from Alison, the manager/waitress for the night; nice atmosphere in dining room with, a first for me, the opportunity to ask Alexa for music of my choice! However we did have some issues. My starter was nice (terrine of guinea fowl) but the disappointed. There was a very generous piece of melt in the mouth braised ox cheek, but it was underseasoned and the salt and pepper pots took a hammering. The accompanying mash was OK but why only one small carrot and one pickled green leaf as accompanying vegetables? Come on, be a bit more generous! Desserts were OK but, like the rest of the meal, did not come up to 2 rosette standard. Our Californian Zinfandel wine was really good. The final issue came with the bill, paid on leaving the next morning, but one I half expected. We were charged for 1 bottle of prosecco with a deduction of £6.50. When I queried this I was told that they only do Prosecco by the bottle..... The previous evening, when my wife asked for a prosecco, we had assumed that it would come by the glass. I thought it odd when Alison topped up my wife’s glass just before we went in to eat but assumed this was complimentary, and it was odder to find the bottle in a cooler on the table. (No more was drunk so probably at least half a bottle remained.) It would have been correct to tell us we had to have a bottle at the point of ordering - then my wife would have had something else. So all in all we were a bit disappointed.

The Brasserie on the Bay has splendid service; a wide variety of ales, lagers, and beers; and a delightful assortment of entrees for dinner. The atmosphere was relaxed and low key and the views of the nearby English Channel were remarkable. The food was delicious, the service was quick, and the prices were quite fair. If you play golf in Sandwich and you stay at The Lodge at Princes Golf Club, stay there for dinner. It's simply a relaxed and delightful setting for any meal.

One of the nicest meals out we have had for a long time. It was a shame that we were the only ones in the restaurant, but couldn’t fault the food - nice vegetarian options for my mother and plenty of choice for my very picky father. I had the preparations of quail to start with, followed by confit duck with a really tasty jus, and finished with the apple souffle - the staff were all friendly and helpful. Went for a special occasion with 2 other couples however it was not special at all. I had the lamb rack, which was 2 small lamb chops. One of our party ordered medium/rare steak which was more than well done, more like over done. We were asked if we would like another but everyone would have eaten their meals before it arrived. But most disappointing was the chocolate fondant, there was not a bit of sauce inside, quite dry like a brownie.

Here is an exceptionally good chef. Excellent by Central London brasserie standards. The service, however, was woeful. That was not the fault of the staff but rather those who supervise them. My wife and I went out to lunch with our son to celebrate his birthday. We were slightly delayed by the M25 traffic and phoned ahead with our exact arrival time. There was nobody on duty in the restaurant. There was nobody on duty in the bar. After a few minutes a lady, who was eating a sandwich in the bar, broke off her lunch and went into the kitchen to chase someone into action. Apart from one couple we were the only people at the brasserie for lunch. I even had to chase down someone in the adjoining bar to take my money after lunch. The extraordinary thing is that the quality of the cooking and presentation are to the very highest standards. The prices for the fixed 2 or 3 course meals are exceptionally good value. The pheasant terrine to start was excellent. The cod main course was, according to both my son and my wife, fabulous and my beef shin was beyond good. The warm strawberry soufflé was the best I have had for a very long time. My son was in raptures over the chocolate dessert. All in all one of the best meals I have had in England for quite a long time. Why on earth spoil it by inadequate staff training. I do stress that this was not the fault of the young people working there. They were charming and friendly – they just need a little training and/or supervision.

We visited the brasserie on the bay at Sandwich for lunch yesterday - 2 courses £12.95, 3 courses £15.95. The meal was outstanding with friendly service in beautiful surroundings. We did not have a starter but pheasant terrine with homemade chutney or seared scollops with black pudding sounded lovely. We both had wild mallard which consisted of two melt in your mouth breast portions and a small confit leg - which sat on large pearl barley, curly kale, assorted mushrooms and pancetta, all in a most wonderful jus. This was followed by the best ever apricot soufflé with elderflower sorbet. They hit Christmas menus for both lunch and dinner in December but prices are still extremely reasonable. Make this a place to visit - it overlooks sea and golf course with lovely lounge with wood burner, sofas and papers/magazines where you order your food before going in to the beautiful restaurant. If you want bar snacks in the lounge instead the choice is plentiful- triple cooked chips are wonderful!

I took a party of 11 golfers for a private dinner at The Brasserie on the Bay and was fortunate to be looked after by a delightful girl studying at St Andrews University. The staff had sent a menu in advance and so all courses had been pre-booked. Great that there were no errors but the system of allocating selections to each person worked well for our 70+ age group. Starters all good but the main courses were outstanding, especially rump of Romney Marsh lamb, gnocchi, pan roasted grey mullet and the star of the night, an incredible chateaubriand. The beef was medium rare as requested, very tender and served in huge quantities. This was a very good meal and everyone also enjoyed their Full English Breakfast with fried bread on request and superb local sausages. Fully recommended and our party will be booking for 2017 as soon as possible.

This secluded location is within the Princes Golf Club in Sandwich. Access is via a private road, where you need to tell nice man on gate that you are going to dine otherwise you are charged to enter the area. The road winds round the course and turns along the seafront of the English Channel at Sandwich Bay. Plenty of parking. The Brasserie is at the back of the building overlooking the golf course. We went on a Sunday for lunch which was either set menu or bar food. We went for the set menu at 17.50 for 2 courses or 23.50 for 3 courses. I had fresh mackerel to start which was very nice, followed by roast beef cooked to your taste, with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and veg. The portions are big so unfortunately we never got to the sweets. Staff were pleasant and efficient, surroundings are modern and there is a log burned which I guess is lit in winter. I would have no hesitation in going back and am sure I will a great experience an hidden gem! There hotel attached and the venue can be hired for weddings or special occasions.

Thoroughly impressed by The Brasserie on the Bay, offering genuinely interesting yet unpretentious food. The textures of Wild Garlic dish was executed perfectly, wild garlic pannacotta shouldn't work but it was packed with flavour, and the pickled garlic leaf had the perfect amount of acidity to cut through the richness of the pannacotta. I had the chicken with asparagus, Pomme Boulangere and Salsify to follow, and for someone who never orders chicken at a restaurant the balance of flavour with delicate yet not over-the-top plating made for a surprisingly delicious main course. How they can afford to produce food of this quality at a cost of £12.95 for 2 courses to the diner is beyond me. Will be returning very soon and I'm intrigued to keep up with the progress of an obviously very exciting chef. Brilliant.

Was here (for the fourth time) just before Xmas for dinnerI wondered if there had been a change in the kitchen : it used to be good modern bistro cooking by someone who knew his stuff. Not this timeThe starters looked familiar. The mains were a fish dish plus roast turkey - it was just before Xmas- and "roast fillet of beef", which I chose. What came was a large helping of sliced roast beef. It was emphatically not fillet. I think it was topside and rather tough. The vegetables were undercooked. Puddings were dull and featured a lot of ice creamNo professional chef would allow a menu to be presented offering fillet and serve another cut of beef. Either it is sloppy or incompetent or just plain stupid.Did I complain? I was a guest, so I did not. But I won't go back

Had a family lunch today at this place. Having visited many times in the past and enjoyed the wonderful location and great staff in the bar, today's experience was bizarre. Having arranged a table which the staff were keen to organise in whichever configuration suited us and take our orders while enjoying a drink in the bar, the food was mediocre to say the least. The beef quality was very poor and cooked to match. When asked if there were any vegetables to compliment the pork dish, the waitress returned with 2 raw carrots. When we had finished the meal some more beef turned up of a similar quality just under cooked. What really frustrated us was the effort of the charming hannah to see if our two youngest might have child portions to be told in no uncertain terms that they only did one size of meal! So not good food and not a family restaurant, massively overpriced and thoroughly disappointing.

Booked well in advance.....turned up on the day to learn that the chef was unavailable (shades of Fawlty Towers Gourmet Evening). As we threatened to leave, a Table d'Hote menu was hastily put together (two starters, two mains, one dessert...no veggie option) which bore little resemblance to the website menu. We've been several times before and food has been quite skilfully done, but today it was a total shambles. Waited ages to be served the starters (which were very average).....waited even more ages for the main courses, but left before they were served. Couldn't wait any longer. It was obviously chaotic in the kitchen. We will never go back to this disaster of a restaurant. They've had their chances to get it right, but it's been gradually going downhill. It might be OK for bar snacks for golfers who've spent too much time at the 19th hole. But if you want to eat well, don't go to this place.

Starter: Pressed terrine of foie grasMain: Fillet of Salmon (mum had Roast Guinea Fowl)Sweet: Inverted Lemon Tart (mum had Cheese Board)Washed down with a bottle of fizz @ £21.00Maybe a little on the high side, but we left happy and content and will return.

Haven't been here before and have now been twice in the same week. both times at lunchtime for table d'hote menu (a la carte menu is a little steep for my pocket). Great meals and great service both times. Portions don't look very satisfying but on both occasions I left the restaurant pleasantly full and was still full by the evening. Lovely seasoning and flavour combinations throughout the courses. Special mention must go to the charming waitress who checked and double-checked everything for me with real good grace (I am coeliac and need a strict gluten free diet and have to be really fussy about it). She suggested alternatives and everything was served correctly. Coeliacs return to restaurants in which they have confidence ... and bring their friends too. I was a little surprised that the panoramic view faced inland to the golf course rather than the sea, but perhaps golfers like looking at other golfers? I'm sure it's not because the builders had the plans upside down! We ate in the restaurant but barsnacks are also available and the burger and chips I saw looked appetising and hearty. I won't hesitate to recommend it and I'll go back with visiting friends as soon as possible. I think it is an adults place, maybe doesn't lend itself to restless children.

We chose to celebrate my birthday with lunch at The Lodge at Prince's Golf Club, Sandwich Bay. This was our third visit. We were welcomed by our waitress on arrival. Our three course meal was superb. It was beautifully presented, pictures on a plate, and was delicious. We thought it was excellent value for money. The ambiance of the restaurant was just right, the background music appropriate and not intrusive. The setting is very pleasant, overlooking the golf course and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday business. We have never been disappointed with the food served at The Brasserie; it's always a pleasure to go there and there's no problem car parking. The Palmers

This was such a surprise. We had been told that the food was good - but my word, it was beyond good, it was fabulous! We have eaten in 6 of the top 10 restaurants in California and two of the top 10 restaurants in America and this equaled if not surpassed them. Go there for a special occassion, and relax and enjoy - don't rush, it's not a place for a quick lunch. The staff treats you like royalty, nothing is too much for them to do to help make this an experience you will remember. For what you get the price is NOT TOO EXPENSE!!! Go and enjoy a true dining experience.

I feel I have to write a review of this outstanding restaurant, however I feel if i tell everyone then I may not get a booking again its that good! I have eaten here a large number of times at this restaurant and they never stop amazing me with the style and quality of the food. The most recent was a a tasting menu. I wont go into what was on the menu as it could spoil it for others but safely to say it was on of the best meals I have had in my life and I have been to many restaurants in the world, many of which have Michelin stars including one where a chef swears a lot! The service by all he staff here is fantastic and a big shout must go out to Gareth. If you love food then don't bother to go to London you need to go here!

What a Chef!!! We booked for the tasting menu for lunch last week and were blown away by thefabulous food, artistic presentation and combined flavours which were so amazing we did not want each course to finish. Having eaten at various starred restaurants this venue far surpassesany of them (including Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy) We have booked at the Brasserie on various occasions and must also compliment the staff at every level nothing is a problem and service always with a smile. Please somebody in the award industry ensure this chef is recognised for his unbelievable talent and valuable contribution to the Brasserie on the Bay.

The first experience I had was for my father in laws birthday where we sat out all day in the beautiful sunshine, looking across the gorgeous views of the golf course. The food was amazing and the service 10/10. My partner and I have been back for lunch twice and we just love this place! Location is beautiful and everything about this place ticks all the correct boxes! Such amazing food for great priced menu! We will be back soon with friends:)

This is a follow-up to my review of 8 Jan 2014. Four of us lunched here today, Feb 10. Glad to say that the standard of this meal was on a par with those we had enjoyed here pre-Christmas. Flavours and presentation excellent. Very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. We were very grateful to chef for the requested soufflés. However, for the area, I believe the increased price of £21.50 is flying pretty close to the maximum most people would pay. Much as I adore fine cuisine, I wouldn't pay more for lunch. Thanks again for a most enjoyable meal.

To celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary I wanted somewhere slightly different and having been here a couple of times before, I thought the setting and food would certainly fit the bill.I had arranged a dozen friends to meet us and surprise my wife. As we walked into the bar we were greeted by all our friends who duly surprised my wife. They had already put out excellent canapés while we waited for our meal to be cooked. We were shown to the dining room, which has been improved since our last visit, with sofas around the fireplace. Starters were excellent, then the Fillet steak for main, was mouth watering and beautifully presented. The dessert; the Clementine soufflé, one of the best I have ever eaten, it was so good I ordered a second and the chef was only too pleased to make another which was even better than the first. WE had the place to ourselves and it prove to be a wonderful evening. finished of with surprising my wife by reserving the best room in the Lodge for the night.

Three of us had lunch here Tues Jan 7th. Our starters were of the usual tip-top standard and utterly delicious. The mains were disappointing though, and we therefore unusually skipped dessert. Two of us ordered the seared sea bass; one the beef. I got the impression that Chef might have been short on sea bass that day, as it looked as if one small fillet had been cut across to make two rather mean halves. The beef consisted of just two cubes of meat - and not huge showy pieces . Also, the prices have now increased, so £21.50 for 3 courses. I was a little surprised at this because I had specifically asked what the lunch time prices were when I booked, and the young lady in question confirmed the PRE-Christmas prices to me.Whilst one fully appreciates the skill and delicacy of fine cuisine - we do, and have both dined and lunched here at least half a dozen times in the last quarter of 2013 - these plates were a let-down in both taste and quantity. This is not YET a Michelin starred restaurant. The balance between pricing and meal quality is crucial and has to be finely attuned to the area in which the restaurant is located. We felt taste and quantity, which must always outweigh presentation and aspiration, were moving out of kilter with the new prices. We'll visit again just to be fair, but unless the next meal is back to the usual, we'll be voting accordingly. Sorry for the slightly negative feedback, but we feel sure that you would want to know.

We made a mistake on our booking but were fitted in. Perhaps due to our error the service was actually very slow an hour to main. The food was very very good but for 2 of our party the main was not piping hot and we did not have time for desert. The vegetable portion were one micro carrot one micro parsnip and 4 square centimetres of lettuce do left a little hungry. Great location very friendly staff and would go again as maybe our fault.

Although the location of The Lodge is somewhat remote, it is definitely worth the drive - you will not be disappointed. We had the three course table d'hote menu, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced, the service was faultless and the environment relaxed. When we arrived we ordered our drinks at the bar and took a seat in the lounge area, our drinks, and canapes were then brought over to us. This was a very nice touch, and made the evening that little bit more special. We would highly recommend this restaurant, so much so, that we have booked to go again in a few weeks time!!

Four of us very much enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Brasserie. The food, presented in the nouvelle cuisine style, was very tasty and a joy to behold. The service was also very good. Add the modern fixtures and decor and the Brasserie provides a completely relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. We local residents in Sandwich are so fortunate in having such a wide choice of very good restaurants in the town and the Brasserie is a welcome addition to making Sandwich into a culinary mecca in south-east Kent.

We thought we would try this restaurant after seeing an advert in Kent Life. A mid week lunch with friends turned out to be a great eating experience. This quite location between the golf course and the sea is a perfect setting, if the sun had been shining it would have been a bonus, but the rain didn't dampen our enthusiasm for each imaginative course. Every plate was a joy to the eye, a joy to eat. Exquisite flavours, from each well thought out plate of food. A real feast for the taste buds. Many thanks to the chief and the friendly, attentive staff who made us feel very welcome. We eat out very often & we all agreed this was one of our best experiences. Will certainly visit again. ..

The Lodge is designed for groups of golfing guys who like a good feed. The food is fine dining for those after an occasion. Sadly the two do not mix. The room is drab and noisy, which doesn't help when the groups of 8 guys need to hear each other across the table. A good meal but better to be had in Deal and no £13ew taxi.

It was sad when the old Prince's clubhouse was allowed to fall in to disrepair, so to enjoy a lovely meal in the recently refurbished Edwardian building was a double joy. Highly recommended by friends, we arrived for lunch on a Monday, a beautiful warm, calm day and were met by welcoming staff in the bar. We elected to eat on the terrace, overlooking one of the greens and after a wait that allowed us enough time to enjoy our drinks and the ambience, lunch was served.I asked for the smoked eel risotto, followed by rare beef with cep mushrooms. My wife had fish and chips. That sums up this venue very well: it caters for all in an easy, relaxed way with no pretension. The food was excellent, the service friendly and, my dear, the dessert! A deconstructed Bannofee pie: banana sorbet, fudge sauce and a panna cotta in a small glass churn topped with caramel. Wow!With tea and coffee, the bill was just North of 50 GBP (sorry, US keyboard) for two.I can't praise this venue too highly and with fixed price menus for two or three courses the value is terrific: "I'll be back!"

the best meal i have had here so far was saturday lunch on the 14th of sep.wonderful smoked beef starter, then rump of beef main (i like beef!).and a great cheeseboard to finish.(they gave me 3 bits of bread as i didnt fancy biscuits).£16.50 for three courses is great value? i think generally it is here .yes the portions are smaller than most places but they are skillfully made ,so it works out about right .only gripe was my partners pork belly main was miniscule!! half the size of my beef main!this i just dont understand as pork belly is surely still cheaper to buy than rump of beef?the pork main would have weighed about the same as my beef starter!

I would very much like an established fine dining restaurant in Sandwich and the brasserie seems the best hope. We often eat at the Marquis which is normally excellent but they were fully booked so we gave the lunch menu at the brasserie a go. For a start £16.50 for three courses on a Saturday is a bargain. The building and access are a little disappointing. From the private entrance to the road it seems an age before you find the non-descript building housing the brasserie. Inside it feels like a David Lloyd gym. Staff seemed pleasant and we were set a place in the bar area. The starters we opted for were the potted salmon and the eel risotto. Both were excellent. The salmon was an unusual mix of ingredients but for me was delicious. For mains I had the beef cooked rare and my daughter had the lamb. The beef was very pleasant. Not sure the mushrooms were quite right but still very good. My daughters lamb was great but the gravy a little watery making the fondant potatoe a little dull. I really enjoyed the panna cotta desert and my wife loved the white chocolate parfait. The latter being the better in my opinion. If you can ignore the annoying drive and the slightly sterile surroundings this really could be a success. It will come down to how much the locals embrace it and I hope they do. I will go back soon I try the dinner menu and see how that compares.
