The Boundary in Bolsover

We are fairly local but hadn’t been here before. We had a leaflet dropped through our letterbox inviting us to try the new menu with 30% off main courses. We chose a Monday night at 5:30pm for our evening meal. The pub is clean and tidy, but quite cold. I think both the bar staff were quite new as they were quite slow and checking things, but that’s ok, we all have to learn! Our first three choices were not available, 8oz rump, the sirloin and the fish and chips. Whilst we were being served, the chef came out and grumpily told the young lad to stop sending cod orders through as he’d already told them they had none! We settled on chicken tikka and a gammon steak. We waited around 50 minutes for the food, a tad long but we weren’t in a rush. The chicken tikka came with rice, naan bread, poppadum and mango chutney. Tikka sauce was quite nice, although luke warm, amount of chicken about average for this type of pub. Unfortunately that was the best thing. The rice was hard and just warm, the naan bread was hard and cold, the poppadum was ok but there wasn’t any mango chutney. My gammon steak was nice, warm but it wasn’t anywhere near hot for a grill item. Half tomato was stone cold, peas were cold and hard, egg was congealed but pineapple was hot! Chips were ok. We frequent a couple of Marstons pubs, and this doesn’t seem to reach the normal standard, perhaps it was just a bad day at the office but either way we won’t be back.

We visited the first time on Christmas Eve and really enjoyed the food. We have family in the area so it’s really handy for lunch whilst we are visiting. We ordered from the new menu and didn’t even look at the pizza menu 😋 as we were pretty set on trying the vegan Sunday dinner. Basically it’s the same price but the mashed potatoes and Yorkshire puddings are not vegan friendly (sad times) but the spinach tart and veggie sausages are SFV. ✔️ we didn’t seem to have any less on our plates so it seems they make up the plate with a bit more veg and roasties. 😁 The veg was red cabbage, carrots, garden peas and sprouts and the gravy came out separately in a gravy boat. You can order extra veg too. Note the tart seemed more susbstabtial than the 2 veggie sausages. 😉 Now for dessert! Banoffee chocolate tart which was vegan and you could have vegan ice cream with it (make sure you order the vegan ice cream as it comes with cow’s milk ice cream as standard). Very tasty! You can also order the chocolate cherry bomb. My daughter had this and I tried a bit… wow! Yummylicous! Will definitely be back.

Stayed for a couple of nights in the hotel, which is lovely, however the food in the pub was not the best. On our first night we ordered our starters, part of one of them they didn’t have but a compromise was made, when it came out it was missing another component and we asked for it, the staff were friendly enough but it arrived after the starter had been eaten. When our mains arrived one plate was missing tartare sauce, which when arrived was just mayo with herbs, and the other was missing 2 major parts of the meal, again they were brought to us when we asked but we were not happy about having to keep asking. We had breakfast the next day which was not good, I am not sure how you can cook an egg that is both burnt and undercooked! The mushrooms looked like they had been cooked a week ago then sat in oil and then covered in pepper. Again staff were friendly but I am not sure we would eat there again although we will stay in the hotel

Been coming for over 20 years, we live on the estate. Popped in today for a quick pint and lunch. We chose off the specials menu, all we can say is WOW! Best meal we have had here ever! Vic the head chef has been here since February 2023, and after this meal, we will definitely be back. From the service at the bar from the new deputy manager through to speaking to the head chef, Vic. It’s been a lovely experience! Thank you so much!

Wow Wow Wow !!! What an establishment. Been here a handful of times but have never been disappointed with my visit. The food is unreal and brought out looking fantastic and always served with a friendly face. Bar staff are amazing, one in particular that always makes me feel welcome is callum, always friendly and up for a chat. Nothing is to hard or too much effort for the staff they always make sure the customers are satisfied with their meals and drinks. Will definitely be visiting again 😃

Such a really fantastic place especially for families and great this time of year as all the Xmas deccies are up. Making it feel cosy and warm... It has an outdoor seating area with huge play ground, lots of tvs everywhere with sports playing and an amazing indoor restaurant with the best food. Lots of choice.. I recommend the classic burger, 😋... The pub even has an attached hotel just a short walk across the car park and caters for functions of all sizes. On our night out, we had live music which was a bonus. Location is hidden away from the hussle and bussle of life, but suprisingly very close to places such as the designer shopping centre just literally around the corner, with the M1 and A38 just on their doorstep also. I definitely recommend this place. The staff where exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and will be going back soon...

A night out had been arranged for myself and my colleagues, and what a great venue. The function room was full of bookings of all sizes, and as you looked round, you could see why all the parties had been put together. The atmosphere was electric - everyone was having such a great time. The music got you in the festive mood, and every now and then, people burst into song. Just what you need for a staff party, easy venue to find, great food, and polite team - plus a hotel stay for those needing to stay over. Absolutely perfect

Visited with family on Christmas Eve. 🎄 We didn’t book but luckily managed to find 2 tables and push them together for the 5 of us and pram. Would recommend booking when it was a holiday. ✔️ Great selection of vegan options. The cauliflower wings were absolutely delicious. 😋. The vegan chilli was really good and Xmas with rice and some loaded nachos. Husband enjoyed his vegan pizza and vegan strips but loved the cauliflower wings and wanted to exchange… not a chance! 🤭 They had some delicious sounding vegan dessert options but we didn’t have any room. 🙄

A friend recommended the Boundary to me, so I took my family for dinner on Saturday evening. Fabulous fresh cooked food, great selection of drinks and the staff were all very welcoming. We will be back!
