Not worth the hype. Surrounding area is nice but food was not great - the falafel burger was dry and actually a bit of a chore to eat it. We were out for a big family meal and didn't want to make a fuss and spoil it as other people in the party enjoyed their food. We were also told we were booked into the malt vault but get there and we were just in the main dining room in blazing sunlight in front of the big window - lack of shade meant I struggled to even look at the lady next to me when she was talking to me. Manager then added insult to injury by asking me if it was my 50th wedding anniversary - for context I am 35. I personally wouldn't recommend and this falls short of the standards I expected.

I have just spent 2 days at this hotel. The front line staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel and rooms were clean. However the hotel is quite noisy and whilst the breakfast was fine, the evening meals on both nights were poor. Gorgeous little pub located in a beautiful little village. The food was the best I've had for a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The staff were so lovely and helpful. My mum and i stayed over for one night in a cottage room, it was a lovely room the only slight down side was it was a little chilly (I think due to old windows and only 1 radiator for quite a large room) That being said I would stay again as it was so beautiful and location was perfect . My photos are of the village literally as you walk out of the pub 😍 Thank you for a lovely stay!

What was meant to be a very relaxing 2-day break with a visit to the Christmas market and farm shop resulted into us cutting the break short after one night and returning home. We felt completely in the way as bar area had recent flood damage and a new carpet was in the process of being fitted during our stay. Upon arriving back from Chatsworth house for the day and looking forward to a relaxing drink in the bar area - we were told to come back in 30 minutes and see if certain areas had dried. So unprofessional - Why open? Why wasn’t this information given upon booking? Why give your guests this sort of restricted experience? I got away from my business after nearly being flooded for a few days with my wife to relax. Not worry about another businesses carpet being fitted in the bar area. Really poor customer experience won’t be returning here.

Having made a reservation for my birthday treat my wife and I were seated at the last table table in the restaurant. The room was pretty cold. Asked if we could move into a warmer part of the restaurant. "All full, sorry" We did get to move to the next table but moving 1 meter doesn't make the ambiance any warmer. Food arrived, had to send it back, it was cold. Came back warm, not hot. Decided to just put up with it seeing as my wife was half finished her dish. For some unknown reason we dicided to have dessert. My wife had ice cream, which was luckly cold, I had sticky toffee pud and custard. Pudding was quite dry and the custard was unsurpisingly cold. I'd had enough by that time and just accepted it. I was offered a 10% discount. Side note, all of the wait staff looked to be under 20 years old. All in all, not a really good experience.

Relaxed atmosphere , first day as you might expect Noisy disturbed night (very noisy bar)the next night. Travelodge on motorway would've been quieter . Comfy quality room although of age and maintenance of some windows that don't open or shut properly meaning they are well ventilated linen was old and creating dust every time it was touched . Dog facilities are brilliant but so they should be at £15 extra per night Food excellent but apple and rhubarb crumble average . Far too much fruit and a dusting of crumble like topping. Red berries detracted from flavour of rhubarb . Rhubarb had hard outer skin still attached. Burger excellent. Hagity pie excellent although a 🥕 or two on the plate would've made it perfect . Free Tesla Destination charger for guests made our EV trip stress free on day 1 then failed day 2. Can't be relied on . A few outside sockets for contingency are needed In summary, over priced for the overall quality

I recently stayed for 2 wonderful nights with my husband and our dog.. The room was beautiful complete with an extremely comfortable 4 poster bed. It was also exceptionally clean with lovely quality bath room products. We were booked in as bed and breakfast but chose to eat in their restaurants both evenings and we not disappointed. The bar is well stocked and the wine list also offered a good choice. Every member of staff were so accommodating, friendly, cheerful slightly chilled out in an endearing kind of way which made us feel totally at home and chilled out ourselves. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Our dog loved it too as she was made to feel welcome and fussed over a great deal! There was a great choice of breakfasts all allergies and food preferences catered for. We can recommend the Devonshire breakfast followed by a long walk. The menu for the evening dinners offers a good selection of choices and the food did not disappoint. They do not scrimp on the portion size which is why I didn't get to desserts. The small village of Pilsley is so quaint and pretty with many stunning walks. We chose a 6 mile walk, recommended by the manager, into Chatsworth which was really pretty. The hotel/restaurant is only a few hundred yards from the Chatsworth Farm shop which is well worth a visit if you are a foodie like us! I would recommend this hotel if you like the idea of a quaint, relaxing and tranquil village. I would stay here again. If you want more nightlife you might be better staying in Bakewell.

What a charming little hotel and restaurant the Devonshire Arms proved to be. We were celebrating an anniversary and wanted to visit Chatsworth and the Devonshire had been recommended to us. On arrival, we were met by the young staff (who were all charming throughout our stay) and shown promptly to our room. It was comfortable, well equipped although a little on the small side. I should probably have chosen to upgrade and i certainly don't blame the hotel. In the evening we were booked in for dinner and we were not disappointed by the food at all. It was excellent from the starters to dessert everything was great and couldn't be faulted. It's such a quiet spot that we had a great nights sleep and the following morning enjoyed a substantial and well cooked breakfast before leaving to visit Chatsworth House Gardens. A very enjoyable stay and happy to recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Sadly things are not what they once were. The Devonshire Arms was a firm favourite of my wife and I. Having returned recently to the East Midlands, I did not hesitate booking a table for lunch for my wife's birthday. Unfortunately, things were not as we hoped, I had booked a table in the Brasserie, we were seated in the bar, I appreciate they were very quiet and it made sense to have everyone seated in one area, a explanation or apology would have been appreciated. Service was friendly and prompt, however, dishes are priced at "premium" pub prices and all six dishes we ordered did not reflect "value for money". Portion sizes ranged from barely adequate (The Whitebait Starter) through small (The Devonshire Estate Lamb) to miniscule (The Strawberry Tart) this along with dust webs in the corners and chair's etc that have been there since the early 2000's means it sadly failed to live up to its once excellent reputation. As a guide there were about eight Whitebait per portion, followed by four teaspoon size pieces of lamb with equally small amounts of vegetables and mashed potatoes for main course and to finish a Strawberry tart which frankly would be dwarfed by an average size petit four ! (To describe a small piece of filo pastry, topped with a single slice of Strawberry, as a tartlet, borders on the scandalous). Overall very, very disappointing.

Stayed for a surprise anniversary treat booked by my husband with champagne on arrival in a lovely and quirky 4 poster bed. (Don’t book if you have mobility problems) but added to the experience for us. On arrival we received a superb friendly welcome. Good selection of gins at the bar. Had a 3 course meal with the highlight for me being the sticky toffee pudding. Especially when I received extra sauce. Breakfast was served by a young man who was super friendly and helpful-giving us advice on the local area. The granola was excellent and the crushed avocado on granary toast with a poached egg was just the job to set us off for a lovely day in Chatsworth. The only disappointment for us that given it was our anniversary we would have expected to be in the restaurant not sat at arguably the worst table in the establishment ( in the bar near the door) which became rather draughty. The helpful staff did close it when I asked if we could move to a table that had become vacant further in the bar. The ambience in the restaurant for breakfast was much more what aI had expected. Overall though a delightful stay. Looking forward to a return (as long as we can eat in the restaurant!

Our friends said the French onion soup was the best they’d ever tasted & my Hake dish was superb. The chocolate fondant was as good as in any expensive restaurant, but even the simplest of dishes such as rice pudding were elevated to new heights by the addition of stewed plums. Fantastic food, small menu but something for everyone, so fresh and tasty, service is friendly and efficient. Cake selection is definitely not diet friendly!

Not been for about 1 year. Today went for Sunday lunch. Had a drink in the bar before going to our table. Had the roast beef (pink). It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Couldn’t fault all the accompaniments. Ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra and it was so flavoursome. Me and my husband always rate places with “if it’s better than we cook at home then it’s worth going back” and we will disunity be going back. It was a lovely dinner, I didn’t have room for a pud. All staff lovely and very friendly.
