I visited this pub with my mum recently whilst visit the area from Sheffield. The home cooked food was delicious, great value for money, and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend.

Visited here many many times and can honestly say the food is always luvly, maybe sometimes service is a bit disorganised and haphazard but luvly none the less. It is a small family run pub so if your expecting al a carte don't go but if you want tasty food it's the place for you.The only down side is the fact that sometimes its so bloody hot in the restaurant you can't breathe but unfortunately that's due to it being a small pub so I just start opening the Windows. All in All can't fault the Sunday Lunch

The usually reliable CAMRA Good Beer Guide states that this has been their local pub of the year for "an impressive 11 years running". All I can say is the standard of pubs in this area must be extermely low if that is the case. I wouldn't give it any accolade; in fact I found it a soulless establishment. There are several handpumps, which looked promising, but on close inspection all the ales seemed to be very high gravity - not what I was looking for. The only ale they had under 5 per cent was Theakston's XB at 4.5 per cent, so I ordered a pint of that, and it was not a very nice pint - not sending back territory, just not very appealing. I did not eat here so I can't comment on the food but quite frankly I am not inspired to come back.

I very rarely write reviews but felt compelled to write this one based on the worse food experience of my life! The soft drinks certainly weren't branded and tasted foul but that was the least of our concerns. Every item on my plate, with no exception, was bland, over cooked and didn't resemble anything that I'd ever tasted before. I was shocked at the standard of food based on previous reviews. It was so bad both of us left virtually the entire plate. I was going to refuse to pay but my partner didn't want the hassle so he paid and we left. We had to go somewhere else for lunch as we'd not eaten anything and were starving.

Last minute decision for Saturday lunch so hadn't reserved in advance. A local community pub serving a wide range of food, hadn't looked at the menu but heard a party of 6 next to us ordering a variety of meals. Specials board had a good selection of mains and desserts, the two of us decided on liver and braising steak both with chips and vegetables followed by chocolate fudge cake. Didn't have to wait too long, food was perfect temperature, good portion size, fresh vegetables and proper home made chips. Eat at a number of pubs in Derbyshire, don't normally post reviews, but this is a hidden gem.

15 years we having been going for a sunday carvery at a local competitor - but as the standards fell so low we decided to try an alternative - The Devonshire Arms. Uur son had been before and reccommended it to us. On entering we were greeted by the wonderful smell of roast meats, we were served at the bar by a very pleasant young man and given a table by a pleasant waitress. The carvery left nothing at all to be desired. Firstly we were asked "how many yorkshire puddings"! then the choice was ours. In addition to mashed and roast potatoes there were no less than 7 veg to choose from! All cooked to perfection. The surroundings were small but pleasant and clean. We will definately be making this our regular for Sunday lunch from now onwards. Sometimes , when family come there are as many as 17 of us but I am sure they will cope very well if we let them know in advance.

We visited after a review from a friend.. we were very disappointed. We waited for over 40 minutes..only for my food to arrive which was a small butterflied chicken breast and the smallest plainest side salad ever known to man. AKA 2 slices of cucumber, a quarter of a tomato and half a handful of iceberg lettuce. We also had a chicken sizzler in white wine sauce with chips which looked like a pile of gloop on a iron platter. It was very bland. We wouldn't have minded that the meals weren't great because that would have been reflected in the price, but considering we were the first in and had to wait so long! We really felt sorry for the groups of people arriving for meals after us.. they are probably still waiting.

I decided to try this place as it had been awarded Pub of the Year for five years running by the local branch of CAMRA.On arriving the welcome was somewhat muted, and the first pint of beer which was poured for me looked like mud. This was however exchanged without question, and the subsequent (different) beers which I had were very good.I had a rather longer wait than I would have liked before the waitress arrived at my table, but once she had arrived, she was charming, and was the best thing about the pub that night. The food was also below par. A T-bone steak which was ordered rare, came medium rare, but with the leathery texture which suggests microwave defrosting prior to grilling, although of course I can't be certain that that is what happened.I would not on the basis of that visit be able to recommend it.
