Highly recommend this pub/restaurant. 8 of us including a young child were made extremely welcome at a time when there was also a quiz night and the food and service were faultless. Between us we had starters including mushroom with goats cheese, duck spring rolls, calamari - empty plates all round. Then venison burgers, loin of venison, a lovely chicken dish, and choice of pizzas for the child. Everything cooked beautifully. I understand they now have an excellent team in the kitchen and we certainly can vouch for what we had. A great meal, and we are looking forward to returning.

An excellent lunch today at the Bottle and Glass today for myself and four friends. The food was excellent, well presented and very tasty. The staff were all very welcoming and attentive. It was obvious the new owners have ensured the Bottle and Glass is the place to go for good food and service. Thank you!

We were hoping this was going to be the place to eat weekly with a couple of friends as it was under new ownership. Although the service was excellent I couldn’t believe the price. £35 for a main, a special of surf and turf that consisted of a poor piece of rump and 2 yes 2 prawns. With some chips that was it. £35 at a village pub. If it was a bit of fillet and lobster it would justify the price. I nearly didn’t want to pay. I don’t mind paying for really good food however this was generally weatherspoons quality. Sadly we won’t be returning, head in to Thame all black horse and the thatch justify the prices of their plates. Oh nearly forgot they served us artisan bread that was 3 pieces of artisan bread yes but the rest was hovis sliced white I kid you not. Met a group in the rising sun in haddenham after and they couldn’t believe they were served sliced white bread with their Camembert cheese for £12 and were laughing about it. Again the service from the girls was excellent as felt so bad complaining to her. Pictures of the loo as well which I had to bring to their attention. Probably feeling poorly from the bill.

Awful! We were ordered ‘artisan bread’ (£5) and were served 3 small bits of bread that looked nice and the rest was white sand which bread like hovis! We were absolutely shocked. Had higher hopes for the mains but £35 for ‘surf and turf’ steak and two pawns is shocking, one of the meals did not come with the broccoli advertised and the other two said it came with picketed tomatoes which was absolutely not pickled. Couldn’t fault the waitress, she was lovely but we will not be retuning we feel absolutely ripped off. To top it off the toilets were disgusting.

Dropped in on spec today 29th June the 25th anniversary of our wedding in nearby Haddenham. Enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming new owners. Wanted a fairly light lunch so chose the fish and chips and very glad we did. Perfectly cooked chips and the fish was so fresh with light batter. Then came the sorbets (one mango, one raspberry) - I would walk back to this place (we do not live nearby sadly) for a sorbet by their chef. These are the real thing, packed with the flavour of fresh fruit Great service as well - the guys who run it deserve to do well - we'll be back!

Service was super, very friendly hubby and wife team, not a great choice of beers. Food was meh. Overcooked Chicken in breadcrumbs in a dry bun which fell apart. Couple salad leaves, £3 extra for a handful of fries. Positives-the sun was shining and sat outside, lots of wasps though. Other places set wasp repellent traps etc

Last minute Sunday lunch so popped in as passing ,firstly the service was very good from both the bar and the restaurant ,sadly the food was not great. I had the roast beef and my wife the roast turkey ,the meat was ok but the vegetables were very strange, red cabbage completely flavourless roasted carrots cooked within an inch of its life and mushy, roast potatoes looked bought in from a food wholesaler they certainly were not roasted ,and the gravy was like canteen gravy. Real shame as a nice setting but all food under seasoned and overcooked will not be returning.

I’ve been coming here on and off for years, so much so that I was invited to a secret tasting! You know me... I’m a fish buff. Well.... secret fish starter, yes please ! Plaice and prawn, perfectly light battered with sesame, garlic, ginger... I nearly died !!! From tempura in Taiwan, to flying fish in oistins Barbados, I’ve tried them all. This, however, was better! It’s a secret, so you have to say tripadvisor to order it - and apparently you get a free bottle of wine if there’s 4 or more of you. Who needs wine when you have a fabulous starter? Try it. My first 10/10 !!!

Been here twice recently. Once for Sunday lunch with a larger group and once as a couple. The Sunday lunch was a little slow on the service, the food was good but was lukewarm. I think they struggled a bit as it was busy. So, we gave them the benefit of the doubt And returned as a couple for an evening meal. This time the food quality was equally as good but the food was hot and it was an enjoyable evening.

My wife and i visited today (Friday) we had a few drinks in the bar and decided to have dinner in the restaurant. My wife has some special dietary needs, however nothing was too much trouble for the team there. I had the Beef Bourginon and my wife had a plain chicken breast. Suffice to say the food was amazing, just as we had asked for, hot and very, very tasty. Dessert was just as good, Apple crumble and Tiramisu, equally as good as dinner and all served by a lovely waitress. Will certainly be going back :)

My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch on our way back from oxford. The place was fairly quiet and it was sunny so we sat outside. The girl behind the bar was friendly enough but that's as good as it got. Our food took 30 minutes for 2 mains, my burger was over done and dry, the skinny fries had been cooked more than once and were very crispy and dark brown and the homemade coleslaw was bland and tiny. My wife's toasty was melted well but cold. Another couple ordered a few minutes after us and sat close to us outside, their food came straight after ours and their burger and fries looked a lot fresher than mine. Clearly mine had been left in the window and then the fries reheated. I won't be heading back

Went to a meal here a few weeks ago on a saturday night and were impressed so decided to go again for sunday roast sadly we were dissapointed. The menu is a bit limited and the selection of the sunday roasts wete on a blackbord. We decided on the gammon and turkey . I explained i was gluten free and the waitress assured me all the roasts were ok they just took the yorkshire puddings off . I asked her a second time and she assured me this would happen .Our meals came out after about forty minutes which was just about acceptable although the venue didnt seem busy. My dinner still had a yorkshire pudding on it ! I complained immediately . The speed with which the dinner came back meant that they just took the pudding off when in fact they should have given me a completely new dinner to be on the safe side ! Our dinners were both luke warm . Very very sparse on vegtables . We both had small portions of meat. My partner found a length of string in the middle of her meat ! Forty minutes wait for dinner and a small luke warm dinner with a gluten free mess up is not good enough . A lovely pub in a pleasant setting but i shall not be going back !

Always go here when I come home for a holiday. It has changed, not as upmarket as it use to be. Good or bad, I suppose it’s supply and demand, they know their customers and what they want. There were a lot of men sitting around the bar chatting and that was it. No one in the dining room, I remember when you couldn’t get in if you hadn’t booked. Quality of food ok but I've had better in similar establishments charging similar prices. Server was pleasant but probably could have done with some help dealing with a party of 12. However when we arrived there was a very large and very noisy party which in fact ruined our evening. This would not stop us returning to the Bottle and Glass again as it is a nice place to dine, but we would ask to be notified when we booked or when we arrivedThe food here was up to its usual high standard and considering how full it was the service was good.

We booked Sunday lunch today. Beef was not ready so opted for lamb. The meal came out hot and quickly, however I left more fat than I managed to eat meat wise and it was completely tastless. There was some weird garlic/fatty tasting square potato concoction which was greasy and nasty tasting - they would have been better off serving a few more veggies as there was a distinct lack of veg. At no point did anyone ask if the meal was okay and to make it worse our change was not offered. It was only £3.00 but very very rude and presumptuous. We were also overcharged for the dessert than advertised. The roast was tasteless, looked bought in, fatty and to be honest a waste of our money. Certainly would have not put a bad review up if given the opportunity of telling them to their faces, but as we were at no point asked even though the waitress could see how much fat was left on the plates I've put it on here. I certainly would not eat a roast here again or recommend it. What a shame.

We live in walking distance of the Bottle and last year improvement in food quality was noted. Visit with friends today was a reversion to the former mediocrity of this establishment. Two filet steaks were ordered and one was inedible - meat you chew but does not digest! The other was edible but in no way could be described as filet steak. Such a shame that we cannot walk down the road and get a decent meal. Response of staff to complaint was reasonable with modest recompense but the prices here are not cheap and to serve meat of this quality is not just acceptable.

We walked into the restaurant and chose a table near a radiator. It was cold. I asked the waiter if we could turn it on (specifically for my mother, but to be honest, it was too cold for me too!). We were told that we couldn't have it on as it was on a thermostat. (set at 20 degrees). I do not believe it was 20 degrees in there at that time, it felt more like 15. Went for a family meal (25 strong) the food was okay; you get plenty of flies with your meal which is a bonus.... The waitresses were very pleasant. However, after finishing our meal and spending over £1000 in total we were asked to move up the bar so they could tidy the area. We went on to order some drinks to be told by the owners that they had stopped serving?! No shout for last orders or anything, basically they took our money and wanted shot of us. The owner said his license didn't allow him to serve us, but despite him saying this there was three "locals" who had a tab open and they were still getting served. Do not go here, customer service is absolutely foul and they do not care about you, all they want is your money. Spent easily 1000 extra on top of the food bill on drinks and this is how they treated us. DISGUSTING. Will never ever return here.

As a FORMER regular of this place I was somewhat concerned about the food quality served to us. I made it known to the staff that it was not to the normally high standard and was just given a shrug of the shoulders and a 'sorry'. There was no attempt to rectify the situation or any offer of compensation. To cap it off, we were constantly having to flick the flies from our food. We have never had these issues in the past and so was surprised when I mentioned this to the staff, to be told there is nothing that can be done as there is a cow farm on one side of the road and a chicken farm directly behind the pub...I guess the flies have only recently decided to try the pub!!!!I have spent a lot of money here in the past and am now looking for a new venue.Shame.

Went out for meal for two. We knew it would be more expensive than your average place but had heard some good stuff so gave it a try. Food is above your average but very expensive (nine quid for cheese and biscuits?). Beer was Churchill IPA and Ruddles County both which tasted watered down and about 3 weeks old. The meal was OK but not worth sixty one quid, but at least the flies buzzing around the table (of which there were plenty) came for free. Overpriced and overrated. Still, if you live in the neighbouring villages Gibraltar or Dinton the price is probably the least of your worries. Oh, and on settling the bill I entered the wrong number on my card. The waitress laughed and said maybe the beers gone to your head. Impossible, I replied, to get drunk on that watered down pish.

2 of us booked a table and visited on a Thursday night. The place was very empty and cold. We decided to sit by the fire and noticed people still had coats on!! Staff were unwelcoming and didn't seem to make an effort. They only spoke to us when we were ordering and they were clearing plates. My glass was empty and they just took it without asking if I needed another drink - missed out on up selling there!Meals were average, but not good enough for the price we paid.Overall a disappointment and I won't be rushing back!

The desert was tasty and the pub itself has a nice atmosphere to it however there were a lot of downsides too. I went here for my birthday meal with family and friends, I had the pork belly and fillet. The fillet was acceptable but the belly had been overcooked and the vegetables were rather sub-par (carrots were a bit cardboardy). A couple of my friends said the pie was nice though. Service was SLOW! From ordering to plates on the table took 1.5 hours which was just ridiculous. Also when we were ordering they had limited food left available. They had no chicken or Lamb and had just run out of burgers. Which limited the main choices by at least a third. Lastly we were charged 10% service, to which my father pointed out we had been waiting for hours and the waiters response was "oh well I'm sorry about that". Rather disappointed, there was a lot of potential for this to be a great meal but unfortunately it was lacking in too many areas. I am sure if you came as a couple then the experience might have been significantly better but they clearly couldn't handle a group both on the service and the food quality front.

We went for a lunch, we were able to pre-order which meant our food was ready for us on arrival. I had a chicken, leek and ham pie, it was hot and contained plenty of filling. There was a good pile of chips and some crispy veg which produced a good meal. There were very few people in the pub.

My sister and I stopped on our way to stay at a spa nearby and were very pleased to find such an individual, well presented pub. Good feeling as we walked in as felt clean and tidy. Service was efficient (they were not busy) and friendly and although we only had starters they were excellent, I had the fish bake. Fresh flowers in the clean loos left a good impression.

It was a pleasant evening overall but some greater attention to details would have pushed this to a 4 rating . The welcome at the bar was good . There were some interesting specials .. I had the mixed fish and seafood pie which was good but could have been better if with a crispy finish and perhaps with the addition of herbs and/or light spices . I was surprised that in ordering a full meal we still had to pay for olives with drinks and that with coffees at the end there were no chocolates to go with it .. at the prices paid this would have been appropriate . 3 of us had the Manchego starter .. it was pleasant enough but the cheese was wafer thin and at £6.95 I would have expected more .

After a number of visits over the years to The Bottle and Glass I felt compelled to write a quick review to cover all of my visits. We do dine here every few months and have yet to have a bad meal. Often we drop in for lunch and are always welcomed no matter what time and without a booking. One of our lunch time favourites is the sharer platter which has one of the most flavoursome Butternut Squash soups we have had. We have had dinner in the evening on a number of occasions and the food and service has been of a great standard then also. On one occasion I had the vegetable and halloumi pie but on opening the pie there was no halloumi. The waiting staff returned shortly after serving to check everything was ok and on advising them of this I was offered a replacement dish or for the missing halloumi to be brought out as soon as possible. I felt this was great service and the service recovery really outshone the error in the dish, this is definitely what good service is all about. We left that night talking about how good they are for service as much as we enjoyed the food. Overall we would rather get in the car and drive or get a taxi to The Bottle and Glass for their good food and hospitality than stay a little bit closer to home and wonder if it is going to be a good meal. Will definitely return time and time again.

So we had our table booked (on a Sunday) at 2pm. We arrived for 2 and had to wait 15 minutes, as the table wasn't ready. The food, which we were told would take no more than 20 minutes to arrive, took at least 35. It quickly came apparent that we were the last in the restaurant to be served and as such, the portion sizes, quality and consistency of meals were telling. The food arrived practically cold. We ordered 5 roast dinners and 1 child's roast, however the child's meal was larger than the adults'. It was hit and miss as to who would get what veg and how much. It looked as though the food was running out and the chef was struggling to share it around the final 5. The meat I had (Turkey) was massively over cooked and didn't taste great. None of it all tasted that great. Maybe if it had been warmer, would we have enjoyed it more. We complained to the waitress who notified the chef that we weren't happy. We then had our drinks removed from the bill and a further 20% deducted. The staff were very apologetic and helpful. This was the only saving grace.Having visited the pub on a Sunday a year ago, the food was lovely, however the pub only half packed compared to today.I wouldn't recommend, as you don't know if you'll catch the chef on a good or bad day.

It used to be wonderful and my mouth was watering before I got there. Over the past few months it has increasingly gone downhill with regard to food. My last visit very recently, I ordered Lamb Shank at £18 top meal. We waited a long time and, when it came it had to be returned as I could not even get my knife!! When I went to the bar to seek out the waitress another couple were complaining bitterly.about their meal too. When the waitress came I demonstrated the toughness and she took it away. She suggested I had something else but this is not the first occasion this had happened, so I declined and refused to have this itemized on the bill.which they accepted. I was embarrassed as my friend was treating me.They used to be so good and I am saddened that I have had to write this.I have worked in the industry and, I would suggest they look closely at what is going wrong within this once delightful eating place and bring it back up to the standard it once had.If the food is good, there pricing is spot on if not.......

After planning a romantic day with my husband we chose to eat out somewhere a bit special in the evening. Having researched some restaurants online in or near Aylesbury we decided on The Bottle and Glass as the menu looked appealing so booked a table a week in advance. When we arrived we were greeted immediately & seated to our table for two. Before we had settled & taken our coats off we were asked what we wanted to drink which threw me a bit as I hadn't even had a chance to look at the wine list. Our food order was taken quite promptly & our starters & mains arrived very quickly which we both really enjoyed. My husband particularly loved the duck salad to start & my confit of duck which I had for my main was delicious so absolutely no complaints with the food. Our plates were cleared away very quickly and then sadly we were ignored for over 30 minutes. My husband was really looking forward to having the baked cheesecake for dessert but after sitting waiting for a waitress & feeling unable to attract anyones attention to come over we decided not to spend anymore money on food there so got up & approached a guy who was preparing another bill. He appeared shocked when I asked if we could pay him and he did ask if everything was ok, I replied that the food was great but decided not to mention the service at the end which did put a slight dampener on our evening. It started off so well but sadly when the restaurant was full they obviously didn't have enough staff to attend to all tables.Food great but they need to sort their service out during busy periods and there was a particular waitress that kept fiddling with her hair, we watched her & she did it whilst taking orders too, this is a big no no when you are working in Hospitality & Catering!

A group from work attended for our Christmas party. The staff were attentive and helpful. My choice of starter - fish smokies - was very tasty and enjoyable. Unfortunately after that the food took a dive. I had steak which appeared to be poor quality meat that had been put through some kind of mangle to tenderise it. Certainly it was tasteless. The brussel sprouts were overcooked, and other vegetables indifferent. The cheese cake was very average, and appeared to be mass produced and out of a box rather than locally made. Some of the wines we ordered were not available, the ones we had were okay but quite pricey for what they were - as usual in English pubs and restaurants.

We were a party of 3 for a Sunday lunch. We were asked for our drinks order before we had an opportunity yo take our coats off and sit down, never mind look at the drinks menu. They brought the wrong main courses out and my plate had 2 Brussels sprouts as one of the main vege's. Plates were removed and we were immediately offered the sweet menu and coffee course at the same time. We asked for a break and we were given 3 minutes. When we ordered sweet, the wrong orders were again brought to the table. One of the jugs of custard had a "spoonful" inside so we had to order more. All in all, what was to be a special meal turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Even though we had booked a table, we felt very rushed as though they wanted us out ASAP.

Went with a large party for a Sunday roast. Food wise the meal did exactly what it said on the tin. A decent quality roast dinner, all the trimmings and a fair size portion to boot. One of the party chose the fish from the specials board and again that was spot on.Where the Bottle and Glass win an extra point from me is their accommodation of guests with special requirements. Our party of ten included one young adult with special needs and a person in a wheelchair. The building had excellent disabled parking and the restaurant had provided us a location where the wheelchair would not be in the way (making the occupant more relaxed about his meal experience which is important). Additionally the staff were great with the special needs young adult. Very engaging, very friendly.I am sure there are better meals in the area but what I have eaten better in establishments with poor hosting and enjoyed the whole experience a lot less. I have read some of the criticisms in other reviews and can honestly say that we did not encounter anything like that.We will return.

My husband and family went for a meal on Sunday, when we ordered we were told that they had run out of roast diners, which was not said to us at time of booking. When my husbands meal arrived it had roast potatoes with it and not the dauphinois potatoes as stated on the menu, when we asked about it they said they had run out and had we not been told ! Some people came in after us that seemed to be regulars and they managed to get a roast which was not very good to see. It was very disappointing as it is not cheap to dine here and we choose it expecting a nice meal. The staff were nice but wearing trainers is not what you expect in this kind of restaurant.

I took my elderly mother to this restaurant for lunch today at 1pm. Although some aspects of the experience were good, there were a number of things we were not at all happy about. We had a long wait for both the main course and the dessert. For the main course, my mother had duck breast and I had the pork fillet. My mother's duck was extremely tough. I mentioned this to a waiter and asked for a steak knife, which he brought. This enabled my mother to cut it but she could not chew it. I tried it and found it extremely tough and almost unchewable. When a different waiter collected our plates, I again commented that my mother's duck was extremely tough and she could not eat it. He said he would say something to the chef. I don't know whether or not he did but he did not come back to us about it and no compensation or alternative was offered. My pork was satisfactory but I was very surprised that both main courses were served with the vegetables and mine was smothered in sauce/gravy. I would expect a good restaurant to serve the vegetables separately so that one can help oneself. We each had a small glass of Pinot Grigio, which was good but overpriced. On the plus side, the puddings were good. I had cheese and biscuits and my mother had the sticky toffee pudding. However, all in all, our lunch experience was not a good one and was certainly not good value for £57.
