I'd give 0.5 stars or less if I could. Turned up on a quiet Sunday afternoon and asked if we could sit for drinks. Waiter who was clearing glasses said yes, just order at the bar. Approach the bar and eyeballed by the waitress who was fulfilling orders, fine I thought, she will get to us when she's done this. Not the case, she's then yapping until a couple come and stand the other side of the bar to us and she then served them. We left at that point. Hugely disappointing and a big contrast to the lovely and attentive people who work at their other branches.

Eat here tonight very dissapointed. Starters was cold which they replaced waited an hour for the mains. I had fish and chips. Peas were cold and fish and chips well overcooked. My hubby had kebab which was Luke warm won't be rushing back

Beautiful restaurant, but I wasn't amazed by it. Firstly, they had trouble finding our booking, secondly it's rather loud, so that you're almost having to shout to one another for a conversation, and lastly the service was very slow. Delicious meal, but I unfortunately wouldn't rush back.

The building is beautiful and our waitress was very friendly but there were a few issues. 1. We wanted to use our Bath Gift Card but were told they no longer excepted it despite still being listed on the Bath Gift card website 2. Roasts were lukewarm when they arrived 3. We got 3 roast potatoes between 2 adults! When I queried this they brought more which we were then charged for!

Disgracefull experience My inlaws booked a table for four in bath upon arrival my inlaws both 79yrs my daughter and my niece were confronted by two guys acting as door staff/security who told them they couldn't go in. As one guy held my father in law back preventing him getting in to the restaurant for there pre booked table the other guy told them filming was taking place. Issues. 1 if filming is taking place please don't take bookings or at least inform your customers there's been a mistake. 2 door staff/security not wearing SIA licence which is a legal requirement or not even having a licence.! 3 no botanist representative/manager on site ! If your going to use your establishment for alternative users please bare in mind your previously loyal customer base especially when there traveling from a far. Also the contact info to have a discussion is either non existent or unmanned unless you want to book a table or pay you money it's just impossible Yours very irritated and frustrated Ex customer

I had the pleasure of visiting the Botanic Bath during a recent trip to the UK, and I must say, it was an experience to remember. While I didn’t eat anything on this visit, the drinks alone were enough to make it worthwhile. I ordered two cocktails: the Whiskey Sour and the Pineapple Punch. Both were absolutely delicious, with just the right balance of flavors that really showcased the skill of the bartender. Speaking of which, Rowan was behind the bar, and I have to say, he’s one of the best bartenders I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. His attention to detail and the care he puts into every drink really stood out. I’ve traveled a lot, and his expertise and charm made this experience even more special. It’s rare to come across someone as talented as Rowan, and I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in the area. If you’re ever in the UK and find yourself in the Botanic Bath, do yourself a favor and try their cocktails—especially the Whiskey Sour and Pineapple Punch. You won’t regret it!

Lia was amazing. Brilliant service; brilliant. Lia’s attention to to detail, was second to none. It’s the little things that really stood out for us. Even got me to order a cheeky arancini when we were full. Now that’s, a saleswoman! The Botanist should cherish such an employee. God bless you Lia.

A small Hen group, shown to our table and we’re thrilled, as the building was beautiful and buzzing. Took over 30 mins for our drinks to arrive at the table ! We pre-ordered our food upon reservation so we anticipated the food to arrive without delay. But unfortunately it wasn’t quite what we had expected. Starters were OK at best, but the main was disgusting , cold, rubbery and revolting. We cancelled the desert and complained about the drinks delay and then had to complain about the mains, we waited a further 30mins to speak to the manager, who clearly was reluctant to come to our table. Unfortunately after such a bad experiences he had no alternative but to redeem us. Such a sad situation that killed the vibe. However, the waiter Tom was wonderful, polite and professional given the position he put in. Beautiful venue but the kitchen needs to up its game and more staff is urgently required, Might be the place to film “first dates” but sadly there will be no second date from us. 🙁

We attended for bottomless brunch as a table of 14, we pre-ordered food which arrived quite quickly and was very nice. Our waitress pre-warned us of a slightly slow drinks service so offered to add on 30 minutes to the brunch but after 1 hour in and only having 2 drinks and 3 rounds on back order we gave up and no longer wanted to wait around. We had to ask for more Prosecco which wale were told would be flowing as the drinks were delayed, for an expensive brunch this was very disappointing. They should not book in so many tables if they know they will not be able to cope with demand, we asked for a discount which we did get although not really enough for the disappointment. I feel bad for the staff as they were friendly and trying their best but the drinks service was awful. Certainly would not recommend for a bottomless brunch vibe!

We visited because my wife wanted to visit the First Dates restaurant, the setting is very nice and the staff were great. My reason for an average review is that is took 40 minutes from being seated and ordering to get our first drinks, during the wait the waiter apologised and said he did not know where our drinks were. The food was good but not anything special, we had the crispy aromatic duck, is tasted good but was not crispy with un rendered fat under the skin, to make it fancy the chef ribbons the cucumber and finely chops the spring onions, this changes the whole mouth feel with out the crispy and crunchy the whole feel is too soft. The hanging kebedlbs were 9k but not as good as other restaurants that do the same. Overall it was nice but not anything special.

Only went in for drinks. Interior - exquisite, with plants and granary hanging from every wall. The central white picketed bar looked like a band stand and I a mere visitor to the park. I ordered the Blackcurrent mojito, a refreshing twist on an old classic. You could really fast le the tartness run up against the powerful alcohol taste. Then I had their signature cocktail, “The Botanist” - a conical flask filled with botanicals. This refreshing cocktail blends the smoothness of Bacardi Carta Blanca rum and Ketel One vodka with the floral notes of St. Germain and the delicate sweetness of jasmine syrup. Fresh mint and lime juice add a zesty, aromatic punch, while red amaranth garnishes the drink with a vibrant touch. The lemonade perfectly balances the flavors, creating a crisp, well-rounded drink that’s both light and full of character—a delightful, floral yet citrusy concoction.

I used to love going in here, great atmosphere and decor and drinks.BUT the last visits it’s been dreadful, EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE!! 40 minutes last night!! And the bartenders serving giggling woman who have come in after us!! We were a group last night and one of our group spoke to the manager about this, he actually wasn’t that bothered and we voted with our feet and went to another bar ( 2 of our group never got a drink despite being there 40 minutes!!) We won’t be back!! As per the reply from the botanist they asked me to email them which I did over a week ago and just like their slow service they are extremely slow at replying..Because they haven’t!!

Amazing experience simply because of Tom our waiter. Extremely kind and professional man, he made valentines very special for me and my boyfriend, bringing all the banter and great service with regular and not too many checkbacks! Food was amazing also with good wait times. The lady the in beginning also explained the menu very well to us.. so nice wish we could’ve gotten her name! All the staff were kind actually! Our server Tom was the absolute best please appreciate him, wish there was a system where we could tip solely our waiter but overall it was a night to remember! 100% recommend :))

Arrived full of anticipation and left disappointed. The menu was limited, the food was mediocre at best, cold and overcooked apart from the carrots which hadn't been cooked at all,and the service abysmal. After waiting 20 mins for a bottle of Shiraz we were told they didnt have any so we had Merlot. The bar staff took great pleasure in banging their cocktail shakers on the steel sink making as much noise as possible. All in all a big disappointment.

A 10/10 place to go out and eat the atmosphere was amazing, as well as the food we had Asian noodle salad, kebab and dirty chicken burger all which was lovely , the staff made the place really stand out Lily gave us a friendly greeting , James was our waiter who made the extra effort to make sure we had a good night by taking our photos for us, Charlie also made our night something to remember and extra special he was friendly , welcoming and went above and beyond for us. Leila made sure all our food was good and sorted us out towards the end of the meal, all staff were absolutely unreal and fantastic would definitely recommend and come again

Arrived for an 8.00 reservation and nobody on the desk waited 5 minutes and despite been passed by several members of staff no-one asked if we were been served. Approached the bar staff and was told we had to wait at the desk but didn't bother to alert anyone to the fact we were waiting. Another 5 minutes passed and finally a member of staff came to ask if he could help and after confirming the reservation said he hadn't got menus but would find some and showed us to our table. We waited another 5 minutes and nobody came to bring menus or our drinks order. We waited a few minutes more and then stood up to leave no-one asked if anything was wrong. Appalling service felt so let down for my birthday treat on a shortbreak to Bath.

Completely like an episode of monty python for a meal of six (sunday lunch post new year so not busy). Waiter didn't know a single thing about the menu so had to keep leaving to ask more experienced staff thus dding to the slow service, The Sunday roasts were cold, he didn't inform us we could get a free drink with our order until we had already received our own drinks, 3 people that had ordered mushroom pies were given spicy beetroot pies (which they didn't eat). The waiter was however very apologetic and gave us free yorkshire puddings! Luckily we all saw the funny side of the whole episode at the time but not great service.

Made a reservation for my family for a special treat only to wait 15 mins for a waitress to take drink order then waited another 20 mins for drinks to arrive ordered food was told very limited menu as they had run out of mains placed our order waited another 40 mins only to recieve the wrong food for my wife which was burnt to a cinder basically it was an overcooked mushroom pie with a black Yorkshire pudding and nothing else on the plate when we complained to the waitress she came back with the explanation that we was given the wrong menu and the dish ordered wasn't available anymore we declined the substitution as it had taken 40 mins for this to arrive no manager came to apologise we further waited 15 mins before I had to go find someone for the bill. We were treated awful and the restaurant only had 6 tables to wait on there was more staff messing around the bar area than serving the tables another gripe is the downstairs was empty but we was seated upstairs amongst uncleared tables and debris littering the floor? A very bad experience to say the least...please see photo of food served after waiting over an hour in an empty restaurant maybe that was the sign to leave!

Absolutely awful service from staff. Waited over 10 minutes to be served, once we got attention from the bar staff and ordered x6 drinks they rolled their eyes and said “we thought you only wanted x2 drinks!” Continued making the drinks but only filled the glass half full. X2 glasses had lipstick stains round the rim, so as we returned them due to hygiene and requested new drinks, the staff said “things happen” and poured a new one. Dreadful service and will not visit again.

Would rather guide my granddad into my nan than stay here. Probably the worst customer service. Ordered 4 espresso martinis. Firstly they all came half full. Secondly, one had lipstick marks on and when we asked for a new one we were told “things happen” as the bartender poured it from the old into another glass. This is one of the hardest reviews I've had to write and really difficult to decide on a rating. Why? Well the experience was so mixed.... Booking was easy and arrival was fine with a friendly welcome. The ambience is great except the music was a little loud for my taste but that's minor. There was a reasonable choice on the menu given we're vegetarian and our server was efficient and friendly. We sat enjoying our drinks, chatting and peple watching (great view from the balcony). After customers on surrounding tables started being served despite arriving long after us we did start to wonder is something had happened with our order and we were about to enquire when a passing waitress noticed we were still waiting, apologised and went off promising to investigate. A few minutes later a manager came and again apologised offering us drinks whilst we waited. I'm very much of the "these things happen" school of thought so wasn't particularly bothered but we accepted their offer ordering a coffee and a small glass of prosecco (so obviously not taking the micky given the cocktails available). Anyway food eventually arrived and was good. We weren't offered a desert menu and needed to get going as we had tickets for the theatre so ordered the bill and this is where it all went wrong! Yes the "free" drinks were charged for on the bill. The server got flustered and needed to find a manager but by now we really needed to be on our way so I said not to worry and just paid it. I'd like to think that the delayed food was a rariety and being charged for complementary drinks was an honest mistake. So the dilema is what rating do I give the Botanist? Should it be 4 or 5 stars to reflect what almost happened? I considerred this long and hard and it came down to the question "would I go back and give it a second chance?". The answer is no, not if I'm picking up the tab, and I can't honestly recommend others go somewhere I wouldn't go to myself. So sorry Botanist, but it's a rare one star review from me because of that.

I brought my wife here for her birthday after watching the show First Dates on channel 4. We had been to the London First Dates restaurant as well which didn't look like the shows setting, this looked exactly as it did on TV. Great start. People that greeted us at the door and served us were attentive and kind so we had good service. Clientele was mixed from people in their 20s all the way up to 60+ which was nice to see and not all couples but groups of friends. Food was pretty good, not the best meal ever but good enough to say I enjoyed it. Overall we really enjoyed our visit to the restaurant and glad we travelled down from Liverpool, Bath itself is a beautiful city so definitely worth a trip.

A disappointing experience. Having been to The Botanist several times over the last few years, I booked a meal for an anniversary. Upon arrival, after a brief wait at the front desk, 3 members of staff appeared and didn't acknowledge us for several minutes. Eventually when they noticed we were humans, and not being able to find our booking, we were seated. The menu is somewhat basic and "playing it safe", and didn't feel like it had changed much in the last 5 years, if at all. After ordering drinks and food, there was a brief wait for starters, which was fine. Some things to note with the baked Camembert starter were : it has gotten significantly smaller (the Camembert itself), the lack of bread included, the cranberry sauce being inside the baked portion as opposed to on the side, the lack of side plates with said starter, and the bread that the Camembert was baked inside of was so hard my girlfriend almost needed dental work after attempting to eat it. However, when it came to the mains, things got particularly poor. Roughly 45 mins passed between the starter being taken away, other couples nearby being seated and getting their mains, while we were sat waiting. At this point, I mentioned to staff that the wait was excessive. The staff did offer a reason / generic excuse, however this did nothing to fill our stomachs. We were promised food would arrive momentarily, but after a further starved 15 minutes, we informed the staff we no longer wanted to eat at The Botanist, would like to pay the bill, and leave. At this stage food turned up, but the wait was so excessive we had no interest in eating the food, and being offered the food as a takeaway option totally defeats the object of going out to eat. Credit where it is due, we did not have to pay for this awful experience, and the staff were friendly, but after said experience, we will not be returning to The Botanist again in the future. High expectations from previous visits totally ruined by an embarrassing showing on this occasion.

First of all, the place is gorgeous!! It has such a nice cozy vibe while also being outgoing and lively! We came for my mums birthday and it was the nicest meal we have been for! Our server Charlie was so lovely and very friendly and really respectful towards my family who are deaf. I also asked a lady named cali (I think that’s how you spell her name) to organise a birthday plate for my mum and it was gorgeous and she was nothing but friendly. Unfortunately I was very underwhelmed with my trip to the botanist. While the scenery and food was good, the service was incredibly disappointing. Took ages to get our prebooked table and even then the service felt impersonal and unplanned. Also not accessible for baby changing, which isn’t a necessity but a shame nonetheless.

We are a group of ladies who lunch regularly. We all had something off the lunch kebab menu. The meals were good - I had the Halloumi - plus we all shared a few bowls of chips. Each dish comes on a wooden platter, which is quite heavy, with a little bowl of humous and chick peas on the side of the platter. Unfortunately the waitress lost control of two platters and one dish fell dropping humous on my friends new jacket and she managed to catch the other bowl. I do not blame the waitress for what happened as the problem is more to do with the weight of the wooden platters and there is no security for the little bowl so it is far too easy for it to slip off the board

Awful place! Went for a big family meal. Hostesses both rude, and at least not pleasant! Requested space for pram at time of booking. We were placed in the VERY loud bar area instead of the restaurant area. (Knowing we had a baby with us) Table not set out for enough people, and when staff needed to move some furniture they actually asked half our table to stand and move out of their way! Food was expensive, and very small portions for the money. The company only concerned with taking your money, and not customer satisfaction Safe to say we will not be returning!

Food was cold, inattentive staff although pleasant. Tables not cleared before birthday cake brought out (of which took ages as there was no lighter). Shame as was a 21st Birthday meal, lovely venue but menu is lacking and staff need some guidance/training, for that i wouldn't return.

Fairly overpriced food, nothing wrong with the food but not worth the price you pay for it. My wife and I shared a hanging kebab, you can choose up to 3 different types for around £35, tasted ok but the quantity was lacking. Service was ok, not as quick as I’m used to, and a lot of tables still had empty glasses sitting on the even though there was staff hanging about

Apart from a couple misunderstandings with some gluten free options, we had a lovely night out- our server Imogen was very understanding and helpful surrounding quite a few allergies and dietary preferences. Leah, who served our very enjoyable drinks, was continuously bubbly and helped create a relaxed atmosphere in what I can only assume was a very stressful environment on a busy Christmas Eve Eve. It was really busy cause of the markets and there were quite a few delays. However our waitress was lovely but the star of the show was the bartender Harvey who we booked a masterclass with. He managed to get a group of tired, almost moody girls laughing and joking, which lifted the spirits of the bridal shower so very thankful for that. He is amazing

Honestly, just really disappointed. Food was fine. Venue is nice but filthy. Smell of old cooking oil permeated the entire building and stairs / floors are very slippery. Spots and stains all up the walls and the plug near us looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for 10 years Food hatch was vile. Service slow. Took 30 minutes after sitting down to get our drinks. Not very impressed!

Spent Saturday night here and the entertainment was first class, great live singer with a nice pint and the bar staff were excellent, the building was stunning and can see why they film first Dates here the only downside was you had to climb 3 flights of stairs for the toilets

We had a lovely Christmas meal before we went to a show at the forum. Very attentive waitress and delicious food. As you can see we had the kebabs. We love the little bowl of garlic butter which you pour through the hole in the top and it trickles down over your kebab to the chips below. We had desserts but were too busy eating them to take photos. But disappointed there were no banoffee sundaes. Enjoy your visit! Merry Christmas 🎄!

Expected much more from this venue.sat upstairs and were very cold so much so that I actually asked server if they had a portable heater but unfortunately not .My wife had the seabass and my son and myself had the hanging kebab which apparently is a firm favourite here ,all three meals were very average ,service was good but the waitress was definitely embarrassed by the lack of warmth in the upper dining area this definitely contributed to us not enjoying this dining experience .The cost of the meal in my opinion was not worth the quality of the food . Overall really disappointed with all aspects of this experience .Will not be recommending the Botanist in Bath 😕

Was seated in a ‘corridor’ area where the draught blew like it was coming from Siberia! Was moved to another table where the draught was worse as both of us felt it - had a drink with our coats on so we didn’t get to taste the food as I called time when I could hardly move my fingers as they were so cold. Apparently there is a new extractor fan - clearly whoever bought it didn’t sit at the tables it affected. Shame but the company needs to arrange the tables for customers’ comfort not how many they can fit into the downstairs area. The previous visit was great, the bar staff were friendly, the cocktails delicious - alas this time we were left ona forced fast.

Terrible experience here. Turned up 20 minutes before our booking so they asked us to come back at the right time. We stayed and had a round of drinks and had just ordered our second round when I realised our table should be ready now. Went back to reception and the young girl took us upstairs to our table. We were four adults but they put us on a two-seater table. I also noticed at least half of the tables were empty, were they all full 20 minutes earlier? We asked for a bigger table but were told they were fully booked! We didn't make a fuss but told the girl the reason we were leaving, and she told me in an off-hand manner that the tiny table WAS a four-seater - it definitely was not! On top of all that the place was surprisingly grotty with peeling paint everywhere and also sticky, badly-cleaned tables; seems to be the norm in Britain these days, sadly.

Wasn't impressed with food but I let that go, however I wouldn't eat there again have visited a few times for the bar and if you're disabled in anyway, don't go! It's crowded, it takes FOREVER to be served and even if you book a table, you're lucky to get it! Some entitled people Saturday night thought they had reserved an whole area, not just a few tables and refused to allow me to sit at the empty table, despite me clearly wearing my disabled alert badges. Luckily I spotted another area and it was much nicer and I spotted another couple looking for seats so called them over, because unlike other entitled people, I won't keep a table all to myself. So glad I did as it was the lady's birthday and someone had stolen her reserved seat, our little area was much nicer anyway so she lucked out! Took my husband ages to get served after barman ignored him to serve the young girls which was a shame as my cocktail was lovely and I would have liked another but we decided to leave to get better service.

Complete shambles, that was disappointing on so many levels. Granted we were a large group of 30 plus, but we had pre booked, so it shouldn't have a surprise that we turned up. We sat down at 8pm, already delayed, and service tooks hours and hours, which you could excuse, if the food was good. But the Main course was overcooked, dry and very cold. Deserts also managed to be dry, which is an achievement of sorts. Plates were cleared as people were still eating, then when we had finally finished the meal, the band had stopped, we were turfed out before they officially closed. Clearly under prepared for large bookings, but happy to book people in and take the money.

We visited on Saturday, very busy weekend, but the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The hostess was so accommodating (after we’d had such a stressful morning!) and our server was attentive, checking in on us regularly. We booked well in advance for 4 people..but when we arrived we were put on this pathetic table with barely enough room for two people, staff were rude (waiter was nice but embarrassed with what we had been given) and premises were really grotty, no hot water in the toilets!!!!. So disappointed with everything!!!! Would never go back and 100% never recommend anyone going there..... In fact I will tell everyone to avoid!!!!!!!...

Had to wait 10 minutes before anyone came to assist us, in a cold windy corridor to sign us in for are meal. The barmen were more interested in serving people who just arrived rather than those already waiting 15 minutes to get a drink in a none crowded bar was ridiculously. The toilets are a trek, being 3 stores up. The food was great and staff bringing it to us were outstanding, that's why four star were given.

Disappointing, beautiful place and would have been great if it had just been drinks downstairs, but we pre-booked a large group Christmas meal...we were eventually seated upstairs 40 minutes late, our drinks order came out towards the end of our meal, food was dry and over seasoned, service wasn't great, large amount of food was dropped and not cleared up for an hour. Despite continued requests for deserts to be bought out, 3/4 of the group ended up having to leave to catch trains before they even came over to explain they were trying to get the deserts out...eventually we all had to leave as the first deserts arrived.... extremely frustrating when all the food was booked in advance, clearly nothing had been prepared properly and service was not organised. Wont be going back. Live entertainment was the only plus point for us.

Quite a disappointing experience. Initially waited ages to be seated, as the front desk was completely unmanned, with at least half a dozen staff members walking past ignoring the queue at the door. The main bar was lively and buzzing, our drinks were nice and service was quick. However when seated our food went back because it was cold and was underwhelming when edible (the chicken burger and hanging halloumi kebab) and the bucket holder for the champagne felt like it would collapse any minute. The toilets (both male and female) were dirty and unkempt, with glass on the floor of the gents downstairs. The staff are all very young and friendly, but there seemed to be a complete lack of senior management anywhere. We came to visit because of the tv show and spent a lot of money, but it didn’t live up to expectations and we felt there are things to address.

Horrendous experience! Booked for a group of 30, pre order was incorrect so many times before we even arrived despite providing a physical copy of the order and sent electronically 3 times. Unfortunately, when we arrived the food was so slow that by 10:45pm we left without dessert. Our table was booked from 7:30pm and mains arrived at 10:15pm. Communication from staff was appalling. Would not recommend unless you enjoy waiting hours for mediocre food

Great atmosphere and fantastic food even though it was late coming to our table. However, the waitress (who was lovely) apologised and compensated with FREE DRINKS which more than made up for it. Will definitely be coming again!

Reservamos el molino de Bathampton para una cena especial de celebración. Estaba claramente demasiado ocupado en un buen día soleado y no deberían haber tomado reservas ya que no podían hacer frente. Esperábamos 15 minutos para sentarnos, otra media hora para que nos tomaran la orden (y solo después de que pilláramos a una camarera corriendo) , tuvimos que pedir 3 veces agua, otros 20 minutos para bebidas, y 40 minutos entre que nuestros entrantes terminaban y los platos principales llegaban, todos con nosotros teniendo que perseguir al personal desgastado en cada etapa de nuestra comida. La camarera estaba tan apurada que prácticamente tiró el ketchup que habíamos tenido que pedir 3 veces a la mesa. Nadie nos controlaba y no éramos las únicas personas que podíamos escuchar quejándonos. Había una cola de gente en el bar toda la noche con un solo camarero, y solo cierto personal podía recibir órdenes o dar la cuenta, lo que significaba largas esperas para todo. La comida era buena, pero nuestra experiencia significa que no queríamos esperar para el postre (no es que se ofreció) y no volveríamos. Lo cual es una pena, ya que anteriormente siempre estaba en algún lugar que reservaríamos para un regalo. La dirección debe cerrar las reservas cuando sabe que estará ocupado (es decir, cuando salga el sol! ) o tener más personal para compensar. Arruinó lo que debía ser una velada especial.
