Christmas meal not up to quality I had expected

Fairly overpriced food, nothing wrong with the food but not worth the price you pay for it. My wife and I shared a hanging kebab, you can choose up to 3 different types for around £35, tasted ok but the quantity was lacking. Service was ok, not as quick as I’m used to, and a lot of tables still had empty glasses sitting on the even though there was staff hanging about

Apart from a couple misunderstandings with some gluten free options, we had a lovely night out- our server Imogen was very understanding and helpful surrounding quite a few allergies and dietary preferences. Leah, who served our very enjoyable drinks, was continuously bubbly and helped create a relaxed atmosphere in what I can only assume was a very stressful environment on a busy Christmas Eve Eve. Thanks!

It was really busy cause of the markets and there were quite a few delays. However our waitress was lovely but the star of the show was the bartender Harvey who we booked a masterclass with. He managed to get a group of tired, almost moody girls laughing and joking, which lifted the spirits of the bridal shower so very thankful for that. He is amazing

Very disappointing. Slow service and short portions. My wife had a hanging kebab but it was only half full! The 'background' music was a bit loud too! We will not be rushing back.

Honestly, just really disappointed. Food was fine. Venue is nice but filthy. Smell of old cooking oil permeated the entire building and stairs / floors are very slippery. Spots and stains all up the walls and the plug near us looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for 10 years Food hatch was vile. Service slow. Took 30 minutes after sitting down to get our drinks. Not very impressed!

Spent Saturday night here and the entertainment was first class, great live singer with a nice pint and the bar staff were excellent, the building was stunning and can see why they film first Dates here the only downside was you had to climb 3 flights of stairs for the toilets

We had a lovely Christmas meal before we went to a show at the forum. Very attentive waitress and delicious food. As you can see we had the kebabs. We love the little bowl of garlic butter which you pour through the hole in the top and it trickles down over your kebab to the chips below. We had desserts but were too busy eating them to take photos. But disappointed there were no banoffee sundaes. Enjoy your visit! Merry Christmas 🎄!

Expected much more from this venue.sat upstairs and were very cold so much so that I actually asked server if they had a portable heater but unfortunately not .My wife had the seabass and my son and myself had the hanging kebab which apparently is a firm favourite here ,all three meals were very average ,service was good but the waitress was definitely embarrassed by the lack of warmth in the upper dining area this definitely contributed to us not enjoying this dining experience .The cost of the meal in my opinion was not worth the quality of the food . Overall really disappointed with all aspects of this experience .Will not be recommending the Botanist in Bath 😕

Was seated in a ‘corridor’ area where the draught blew like it was coming from Siberia! Was moved to another table where the draught was worse as both of us felt it - had a drink with our coats on so we didn’t get to taste the food as I called time when I could hardly move my fingers as they were so cold. Apparently there is a new extractor fan - clearly whoever bought it didn’t sit at the tables it affected. Shame but the company needs to arrange the tables for customers’ comfort not how many they can fit into the downstairs area. The previous visit was great, the bar staff were friendly, the cocktails delicious - alas this time we were left ona forced fast.

Wasn't impressed with food but I let that go, however I wouldn't eat there again have visited a few times for the bar and if you're disabled in anyway, don't go! It's crowded, it takes FOREVER to be served and even if you book a table, you're lucky to get it! Some entitled people Saturday night thought they had reserved an whole area, not just a few tables and refused to allow me to sit at the empty table, despite me clearly wearing my disabled alert badges. Luckily I spotted another area and it was much nicer and I spotted another couple looking for seats so called them over, because unlike other entitled people, I won't keep a table all to myself. So glad I did as it was the lady's birthday and someone had stolen her reserved seat, our little area was much nicer anyway so she lucked out! Took my husband ages to get served after barman ignored him to serve the young girls which was a shame as my cocktail was lovely and I would have liked another but we decided to leave to get better service.

Terrible experience here. Turned up 20 minutes before our booking so they asked us to come back at the right time. We stayed and had a round of drinks and had just ordered our second round when I realised our table should be ready now. Went back to reception and the young girl took us upstairs to our table. We were four adults but they put us on a two-seater table. I also noticed at least half of the tables were empty, were they all full 20 minutes earlier? We asked for a bigger table but were told they were fully booked! We didn't make a fuss but told the girl the reason we were leaving, and she told me in an off-hand manner that the tiny table WAS a four-seater - it definitely was not! On top of all that the place was surprisingly grotty with peeling paint everywhere and also sticky, badly-cleaned tables; seems to be the norm in Britain these days, sadly.

Had to wait 10 minutes before anyone came to assist us, in a cold windy corridor to sign us in for are meal. The barmen were more interested in serving people who just arrived rather than those already waiting 15 minutes to get a drink in a none crowded bar was ridiculously. The toilets are a trek, being 3 stores up. The food was great and staff bringing it to us were outstanding, that's why four star were given.

Quite a disappointing experience. Initially waited ages to be seated, as the front desk was completely unmanned, with at least half a dozen staff members walking past ignoring the queue at the door. The main bar was lively and buzzing, our drinks were nice and service was quick. However when seated our food went back because it was cold and was underwhelming when edible (the chicken burger and hanging halloumi kebab) and the bucket holder for the champagne felt like it would collapse any minute. The toilets (both male and female) were dirty and unkempt, with glass on the floor of the gents downstairs. The staff are all very young and friendly, but there seemed to be a complete lack of senior management anywhere. We came to visit because of the tv show and spent a lot of money, but it didn’t live up to expectations and we felt there are things to address.

Disappointing, beautiful place and would have been great if it had just been drinks downstairs, but we pre-booked a large group Christmas meal...we were eventually seated upstairs 40 minutes late, our drinks order came out towards the end of our meal, food was dry and over seasoned, service wasn't great, large amount of food was dropped and not cleared up for an hour. Despite continued requests for deserts to be bought out, 3/4 of the group ended up having to leave to catch trains before they even came over to explain they were trying to get the deserts out...eventually we all had to leave as the first deserts arrived.... extremely frustrating when all the food was booked in advance, clearly nothing had been prepared properly and service was not organised. Wont be going back. Live entertainment was the only plus point for us.

We visited on Saturday, very busy weekend, but the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The hostess was so accommodating (after we’d had such a stressful morning!) and our server was attentive, checking in on us regularly. The food was superb and the venue is beautiful, we will definitely be returning!

First visit to The Botanist - my husband & l decided to have a drink at the Bar where we were served a delicious Berry Colada & a Hot Chocolate with Orange Liquor by a very friendly & helpful young man called Ben. Beautiful Christmas decorations & a great atmosphere -though music a little bit too loud.

Complete shambles, that was disappointing on so many levels. Granted we were a large group of 30 plus, but we had pre booked, so it shouldn't have a surprise that we turned up. We sat down at 8pm, already delayed, and service tooks hours and hours, which you could excuse, if the food was good. But the Main course was overcooked, dry and very cold. Deserts also managed to be dry, which is an achievement of sorts. Plates were cleared as people were still eating, then when we had finally finished the meal, the band had stopped, we were turfed out before they officially closed. Clearly under prepared for large bookings, but happy to book people in and take the money.

Went for a works Christmas meal. We weren't acknowledged at the table when seated and didn't get starters until after an hour of being there. Really can't recommend it sadly.

We booked well in advance for 4 people..but when we arrived we were put on this pathetic table with barely enough room for two people, staff were rude (waiter was nice but embarrassed with what we had been given) and premises were really grotty, no hot water in the toilets!!!!. So disappointed with everything!!!! Would never go back and 100% never recommend anyone going there..... In fact I will tell everyone to avoid!!!!!!!...

Christmas meal booked in August.....they had ran out of main course and we gave up on ever receiving a desert and left. Large parties booking last minute took.precesence over us. Very disappointed we won't be back .

Horrendous experience! Booked for a group of 30, pre order was incorrect so many times before we even arrived despite providing a physical copy of the order and sent electronically 3 times. Unfortunately, when we arrived the food was so slow that by 10:45pm we left without dessert. Our table was booked from 7:30pm and mains arrived at 10:15pm. Communication from staff was appalling. Would not recommend unless you enjoy waiting hours for mediocre food

Horrific Service !! Table booked for 7.30pm and no food delivered by 10pm. No apology, No explanation. Will never book again. Left without food and still chasing refund!! Avoid!! Would give 0 stars if possible !

From the moment we queued and waited in a cold and drafty corridor for nearly 15 mins,we knew it wasn’t going to be a fun night we had planned for my mother’s 60th. The Restaurant/bar area not very busy, plenty of empty tables with a couple of Christmas parties on the upper tier. Table for 6 adults and interestingly placed on a small half a circle table in the dark?! We requested another table as this was not suitable for our needs. After about 15mins another table was provided and drink orders taken on an IPad, waiter said she’d come back for food orders. Another 10 mins passed, the waitress came back over and it was only at this point we was informed half the menu was out of stock. Appreciate it’s the end of the week but some notice wouldn’t have hurt, We ordered alternatives and reminded them our drinks hadn’t arrived. Time passed, approximately another 15/20 mins, watching the bar staff throw ice at each other, pretending to be karate kids wearing a sweatband bandanas and constantly chatting to their mates at the bar. I went to the men’s toilets, up 3/4 flights of stairs and discovered it completely flooded, disgusting to be honest. Back to the table and still no drinks, but bar staff still messing around…I think the waitress had maybe seen me return to the table and me looking around, because she then brought her manager over and said the iPad had not worked and our order hadn’t gone through and we needed to reorder everything…. Nearly an hour gone - no drinks, no food, no service - an infuriating evening, a total shambles and waste of time. Standards clearly non existent since the end of filming. We left, as our patience had run out after numerous chances to put things right. Thank you for ruining my mother’s 60th birthday, one not to be forgotten!!!

Don't waste your time, I can confirm previous reviews stating the poor quality of service and food.. Honestly look elsewhere. You have been warned. This place has no idea what it's doing. Edit: In short. Staff appear massively overworked. Bar staff waiting tables. Staff member making a suicidal gesture to another, we had only been there 10 minutes by this point. I'd seen food placed on tables, removed and I can only assume located to the correct table afterwards? I had the prawn skewer, arrived cold with a very sorry excuse for a Thai red curry, when I asked for a little more than the tiny dish it came with, the chap in the checkered shirt reacted as though my name was Oliver.. I saw staff intentionally step over dropped dishes, I moved it to the side for obvious reasons. Table opposite walked out after waiting 45 minutes for the wrong food to arrive. At least 5 items weren't available from the menu by 7.40pm.. Its expensive for what you get. The cocktails were inconsistent. It was my birthday the previous day, and I'm very glad this was the day after. I could see the effort from some of the staff, and they were lovely too and it was very obvious that they were trying their best with what they had to work with. However, they seemed highly stressed and likely couldn't work to their full potential. If the restaurant was half the size they'd maybe have had a chance, but this is not the case.

Stunning venue! Went there for drinks with work colleagues after our Xmas meal elsewhere. Just about managed to get seating at 7pm - it was busy for a Friday evening. The live music they had on was fantastic - small band with amazing singer covering all kinds of music 👌🏼 The toilets are interestingly positioned - almost feel like you're going up to someone's flat (via the entrance) - but are beautifully designed and most importantly, clean! Main bar/restaurant can be a little noisy but generally there's a great atmosphere

We booked a table in advance and arrived to find a queue at the desk with no one there. We were then shown a table in the bar area which would not have seated 5 people eating. The whole place was totally disorganised. We then got seated upstairs and left after a good 15 minutes as it didn't look like we'd get served anytime soon and there were mutliple other tables also waiting to be served. When we left the restaurant there was an even longer queue at the desk so myself and other diners were telling them not to bother! Luckily we got in to the lovely Italian down the road. Very disappointed with the Botanist as I've visited other restaurants of theirs before and had a great experience. The staff here did not seem interested in sorting the situation, clearly very poor management.

For the price you pay it just doesn't live up to the hype. The restaurant was very beautiful though and they do know how to make a decent cocktail

Totally disorganised. Booked ages ago for my pregnant daughter 30th birthday. Waited in a cold corridor for ages - nobody at desk. Table we were shown to didn't even fit 3 and was in bar area. Then when we stressed our booking - a table was found upstairs in the restaurant. It was absolute chaos. Hardly anybody had food or had an order taken. Other diners commented how much delay there had been to be served & between courses. Very very disappointing. New manager needed.

Disappointing visit , I have a gluten allergy and staff seemed uninterested in helping me find something safe to eat . No menu showing GF options so had to scan qr code, had two choices of savoury food one of which was out of stock leaving only dish . I do not recommend visiting here if you have any allergies.

Booked a month in advance for a table of 9 and paid a deposit for a table at 8:15, we arrived at 8ish and got a drink while we waited initially. At 8:15 we asked for our table to find out that it wasn’t ready yet. We waited another 20 mins and asked again, the table still wasn’t ready and they had just served a new round of drinks to the people on the table. After complaining to staff and being told to ‘go away I’m busy, **** off’ by the manager, we waited in total 1 hour 40 mins for our table, plus 35 mins for food. We couldn’t believe the service and will not be returning. I do however want to mention a great member of staff who after our incredibly long wait, was very attentive and apologised personally for the way we were spoken to and treated.

A real disappointment. Very slow service. Cold food when it arrived. Tough and dry steak. Dry chicken in the caesar salad. Cold venue. Really terrible restaurant. The building deserves so much better.

Amazing cocktails and great atmosphere

We booked a table at The Botanist as we’ve been to other locations before and thought we’d try this one out. This bar is a lot more unique than others, but still has fantastic cocktails, nice food and good entertainment. We had the Vegan Hanging basket which was very good, while also trying out some Mai Tias. The waitresses/waiter were all fantastic, all coming to check if we needed anything and all very friendly. We also had a nice chat with the manager who is a lovely lady. If you want to go to a bar where you feel welcome and can enjoy a great atmosphere, then you won’t go wrong here, although I suggest you book as it did seem to get very busy. Also a shoutout to Elliot the musician who is very talented and yet another person happy to have a chat and make you feel welcome.

What a beautiful dinner experience at the Botanist! From the stunning decor, cool bar, beautiful atheistic & atmosphere- to the stunning food! We had a lovely sit down dinner with a large group & everyone enjoyed their food! They offer a decent menu selection of fine dining including *vegan* marked items! Loved the vegan burger & vegan cheesecake as dessert.

Famous hanging kebab a right let down. Bland and a bit pathetic looking.

What a great building to have a botanist in magical setting with great cocktail choices and very easy to get served quickly was asked 3 times for my order whilst waiting as my drinks were already being made. Great venue even though the toilets are at the top of quite a few flights of stairs. Fantastic atmosphere.

Very friendly staff, nice bar area. Cocktails were nice however, I was surprised how grubby the main entrance and the stairway looked to the WC's. The ladies' toilets were not very clean, there was toilet paper on the floor in 2 cubicles and a flush button missing from another. I must admit i did expect better from The Botanist.

Unfortunately a disappointing visit to The botanist in Bath. The service was very very slow, ordered a bottle of Prosecco which took over 15 mins to arrive, bearing in mind the restaurant wasn’t busy (there were only 2 couples, us being one of them). We chose to have the festive set menu, I chose the 2 course only to be told the 2 courses only applied to a starter and a main, not a main and a dessert. My main course was tasty and well cooked but the dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was dry and the service for both was slow. Maintenance is needed in the Ladies, the first toilet i went to use, the flush was smashed needed replacing and the second toilet, the seat virtually fell off the toilet. When washing my hands 2 of the basin taps didn’t work at all. Sorry to say all in all very disappointing and won’t be returning.

Amazing decor and atmosphere. Went on a Saturday and it was so lively, relaxed and friendly. The bar staff were really welcoming and did an astounding display of cocktail mixing. The drinks were perfect. The cocktails and mocktails are first class. I was really impressed. Good job!

I went for bottomless brunch with some friends and had a great time. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Just bear in mind the entrance to the building is at 46A and not 28 Milsom Street as suggested by Google Maps.

The botanist has the best ambience in Bath with its stunning interior. The service was amazing with Rowan and Kali who provided fast customer service and made impeccable drinks. Whether you are visiting Bath or a local, this place will not disappoint! I will be bringing my friends and family in future!

We had a 30th birthday meal with friends and family. The staff were amazingly accommodating, they allowed us to bring balloons in and they set them up. They couldn’t be more helpful during our meal. Happy, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious! Definitely going back.

Lovely food but everytime they kept on forgetting our cutlery, not once but 3 times. The waitress was lovely and very accomadating but she had holes and ladders in her tights. It's not something you would want to see, especially in The Botanist.

I had previously seen on the website that there was a Happy Hour offer for mix & match cocktails between 4 & 7pm where any two signature cocktails were £15. Today I made an online booking for lunch at 12 mid-day & during the process a box popped up asking, "Do you want to include an offer in your booking". One of these offers was the Happy Hour, two cocktails for £15. I therefore assumed that because my wife & I would be eating & not just drinking, we could take advantage of this offer, so clicked & added it. I subsequently received an email confirmation of my booking, which included the selected "Happy Hour" offer. After arriving at the restaurant and being shown to our table we were asked if we wanted to order drinks. I made the waitress aware that my booking had included the "Happy Hour" offer so would like two cocktails. I was then advised that this offer was only valid between 4 & 7pm so that wasn't possible. So my question is, Why does it allow you to select this offer at the time of booking, regardless of the time, and then show it as selected in the confirmation email? It was disappointing that once I had pointed out the obvious error in their booking process they still wouldn't honour the offer. When the final bill came they even had the cheek to include an automatic service charge! I would have happily paid it if I had received good service, but due to the complete inflexibility regarding the offer, I asked for it to be removed.

Lovely place but clearly not enough staff. Saturday afternoon, booked a table at 3pm, took 1/2 hour to get a drink as bar staff were rammed and customers getting aggy. Could be a much smoother ordering system if table service or order via an app.

My first visit for lunch with a friend. Lovely atmosphere, the staff were all delightful and the food was good. A nice choice of reasonably priced wine by the glass too. I will visit the beautifully decorated Botanist again!

The Botanist Bath is a great venue for drinks and a bit to eat, they have some talented young people behind the central bar that can knock up any cocktail you can think of. The food is ok (in the evening) but not the main selling point of the venue. Point to note - it gets very busy in the evening especially on the weekend and as there main selling point is there cocktails the bar waiting time can be 5 to 10 minutes.

Monday lunch time visit. A couple of waiters, and bar staff, and a not very busy restaurant. We waited 20 mins and had to ask for service, we ordered drinks , 2 Mocktails and ordered 2 burgers and chips . Waited another 25 mins for drinks to arrive and food followed after. Chips very over cooked, burger OK but nothing to write home about. Asked for bill and waited another 15 mins for it to arrive and only one card machine for the restaurant, so had to wait again to pay. Really disappointed as its definitely No First dates service, and we really only went here because of it used for First Dates tv . But even though it's a nice looking restaurant, it's very average food, and lacking in customer service, due to lack of staff and training, which isn't the poor lad that served us fault, management seem to be lacking here. . It really could have used its tv fame for the better, but lacks in basics to encourage us back.

Arrived for my girlfriends birthday and couldn't find the restaurant as the doorway is narrow, but on walking in staff were very polite and beautiful inside, food was average,.... I have ocd so checking for little things that I'm fussy about light bulbs out finger prints on the entrance door window, and making my way upstairs for the toilets scrolls missing on the stairs banister...so overall these little things let the whole experience down wasn't a 10/10.....6 for me just needs a makeover

Great bar - looks great and people friendly. 4 stars as looking a bit tatty in some areas as like so many bars cocktails are way too sweet.

Asia was an amazing host tonight. My wife is a huge fan of First Dates and Asia answered all her questions with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm. The service and food were amazing too.

This is my home city, and I went down to visit Mum and Dad grave and pay respect 🙏🏿 as we've been doing over the past fifteen years REST IN POWER TO both 🙏🏿🙏🏿. Bath is still my all-time favourite city in the UK. The Botanist Bath is a beautiful building and one of many beautiful buildings in this wonderful city, we were made very welcome, and the staff were very friendly and helpful and polite. The food was nice 😋 great selections of food choices, and overall, everything was excellent, and we'll be visiting Bath soon, so we may also pay this place another visit.

Lovely food, fast service, great atmosphere! Popped in for lunch of a couple share plates and a drink with my partner and couldn't have been more pleased with the whole experience.

Not at all what it looks like on "first dates" on the telly. Very dark, in need of a good clean, food unavailable on the menu, cold food when it came, mediocre menu. Plenty plenty plenty of better places to eat in Bath.

Food was delicious and well priced , staff were also very kind and friendly. The restaurant is a must! Love that First dates is filmed there, too:)

Awful wine....poorly trained staff

I never feel relaxed in this amazing venue. Stunning architecture and setting but the staff all seem disorganised and frenetic about their business instead of a calm control of the situation. It could be an awesome place but is just OK 😞😥

Upsetting experience. Went in today for lunch as a mum on her own with pram, was completely ignored by the male server for 15 minutes then he went and sat and offered drinks and took orders for a group of 4 that came in well after i had arrived and been waiting patiently. I was left feeling totally unwelcome and had to walk out really embarrassed. A real confidence knock for new mums trying to get out and about with young babies.

The service was terrible. Very slow. Portion sizes were also small for the price paid. I feel that toilets say a lot about a restaurant…The toilets are absolutely horrendous! Broken seats, used sanitary products and tissue all over the floor. I didn’t take pictures because I wanted to get out of there asap. Would not recommend.

Items on the menu not available, but no mention until a long time after we'd ordered. Service was very, very slow. We were a big party but that doesn't explain the long waits between visits from the waiters. In the end I stopped ordering more in order to get out in a reasonable time. Nearly 3 hrs end to end.

I would like to echo some of the reviews left on Google, whereby I thought the food was ok, but this place clearly needs some experienced management out on the floor. I doubt it will happen as I can see that people have had problems for a long time with responses from management, but the fact that the issues still exist to this day makes me question that anyone is actually addressing these problems. In our case, we were taken to and walked past so many free tables to be placed in the most cramped table that was clearly not going to very comfortable, we didnt even sit down and immediately asked to be sat on one of the others, to be then put right in the next worst table in front of where you walk in with a huge draft that left us cold. Be careful what you wish for! We didnt really notice this until we sat but it is debateable as to what was worse- being crammed in or being left with cold drafts. Had these been the only available tables I would have been more accepting. I had pre-booked this restaurant well in advance and no not all of the tables got filled and we also saw 2 people to tables that accomodated 4. I don't think the customer experience is a priority on this places agenda as I think it is clear we could have been placed at a much more convienient table that night. Best of all was the 12.5% service charge added on automatically, which you either have to take offence to or laugh at really. I requested this to be removed and also made our server aware that it was no fault of hers. This brings back to the point of management, where you can see all the serving staff are young and doing their best working in a busy environment. I would not recommend this place and if you are visiting bath, there are many restaurants to choose from, so consider looking for places where reviewers do not have consistent bad experiences or take a chance here and risk having a bad service. I just wanted to share my experience and gave an extra star for the food which was ok and the staff we had who served us food and drink.

Booked a table for 7:15 and didn’t sit down at it until 7:45 because ‘the people before you are still sat at it’. What’s the point in taking table bookings when you make them wait for half an hour to sit at it? We were about to leave when front of house finally said it was free. Meal was nice but waiting for the table we booked for put a downer on the evening and Birthday celebrations.

Just awful ! Visited Bath with relatives and walked into The Botanist . No welcome , found our own table , cleared it and two of us went to the Bar. The Bar was literally dripping , overflowing, the floor wet and mixologist tipping ingredients everywhere which then went all over my friend’s dress. He then told the other bar tender that she could have a complimentary drink. Our husbands waited patiently, we didn’t get served so all walked out. I don’t understand how such a beautiful venue could provide such shockingly poor service. Clearly this place takes custom for granted .

Went to see the First Dates restaurant ! Quite difficult to find but lovely place. Had a laugh with some other visitors on "first dates" . Toilets are whole other experience !!! Three huge flights upstairs, almost needed oxygen!

Food was good but the service was terrible. 4 of us had a starter, main & drink each, & not one of those came at the same time! There's little atmosphere & the place seems to be trading on the fact that Channel 4's First Dates is filmed here. The service was so poor that one table left before receiving food, it had been that long! Not recommended but cannot complain about the quality of the food, & that's the only reason for more than 1 star.

The most awful bottomless brunch I have ever experienced. Poor effort from the waiting staff, half of the menu was unavailable, the drinks took at least 25 mins to come, the bar staff were shouting loudly.food arrived cold and looked awful. Would not recommend at all.

It's a definite no from me and our party! Whilst the food was well presently and tasty, the overall service was dire. From waiting several minutes to be greeted and taken to our table, things continued to deteriorate. Our drinks, starters and mains never arrived at once, leaving at least one member of our party, left waiting...and sometimes it was a big wait! Our request to move tables (as we were in a draft, from the waiters walking in and out of the kitchen) was completely ignored. One server seemed excessively abrupt and had zero customer service....and she appeared to be training another younger colleague, too, so we did really feel for her. They also appeared to struggle to know what tables to bring food too as well. Other diners ended up leaving, too, due to the slow/ poor levels of service, without them even having eaten. To compound to this, they took a further dislike when we then asked to have the service charge (automatically addes) from the bill due to the poor levels of service, which we explained. Overall, extremely over-hyped and playing on the fact they host First Dates. When speaking to locals, after the event, they advised that it had a poor reputation too. In short, avoid at all costs. There are far nicer restaurants within easy reach.

The atmosphere was great and that's about it. We were told they didn't have the ingredients to make the drink ordered and then a similar story when we ordered food. The food we did order was basically inedible. We knew we were in trouble when we got the food before our drink order. The chicken kebab was severely undercooked and the chicken club sandwich was made with canned chicken and so much mayo it was dripping in it. The service was also very slow, although friendly. They did end up removing the kebab from our bill but overall a horrible experience. Food was absolutely disgusting.

My boyfriend and I reserved a table well in advance at the Botanist for a late lunch on Saturday. Upon arrival however, we were informed that their gas had been out since the morning and as a result, they were only operating a limited menu. Upon being handed a menu, it appeared that a “limited menu” meant bread and nibbles only. Since there was no prior courtesy call from the establishment, we were then stuck without dinner reservations on a busy Saturday afternoon and only limited time before our evening show. Not impressed.

Lovely meal and beautiful atmosphere. Great service from our waitress Asia, she took great care of us :) would recommend!

Overpriced poorly made cocktails. Had spicy margarita which was barely drinkable as had chilli flakes dumped in it, and a rose spritz which had no taste at all.

Well . Basicly I wanted to get there from back . I didn't know back door are closed no sign nothing . When i came back from city i saw entrance so i pop in "as i was full of food "only drinks but no regret nice place even to pop in on one drink . If owner read it put sign entrance front door or anything please:) 5 star place
