The oldest pub in Paulton and the best ! 4 generations of the same family run this establishment and the friendliest pub in the area Everyone is most welcome you get live music and all the activities there as well. Having once lived in the village for 25 years in the 50s to 80s I was visiting this pub where I used to frequent , the staff were the most friendly I have met for a long time, the clientele were friendly There was a wide range of beers and spirits most enjoyable A wonderful heritage village you should visit and I thoroughly recommend They cater well for the public's entertainment with TV screens, live music, pool table , skittles alley , There is even folk nights and bingo !! Something for everyone !! A must if you are travelling in the west

By far the best pub in the village. Excellent service from Jo and Ellie and a very welcoming atmosphere. Having lived in the village for years, this is the best that the pub has ever been. The beer is great, the locals are a good laugh and the pool table is very well maintained. I would highly recommend!

**WARNING: Parking is private and controlled by a draconian company that fines you indiscriminately unless you report your licence plate with this pub** 12/03/2024 Answer: I was told I could park here for the barbershop. Never got told to put my numberplate down at the pub. Got fined £140, the parking was almost empty, and I was there for at most an hour. Draconian practises. Definitely will not visit this place. Feels like another private parking scam. This was on 18/1/2024 13/03/2024 Answer: From what I understand is that your business owns the carpark. It was not clear as an outsider what the procedure was, neither was it stated on the entry that it was a private carpark. The company that fined me did not give me the opportunity to dispute the fine. They have only given me means to pay and that's it. The barbers is a walk-in shop and I had to pay cash.

Really like the Lion, nice local, friendly staff, lively environment, plenty of seating inside and out, nice range of beer and ciders. Skittle alley is great, karaoke as well on Saturday nights which is a good crack.

I have lived locally for many years and didn’t use the pub before due to the poor reception on arrival. However since Joe and Ellie have been in the place has been amazing. Fantastic atmosphere, putting on great music nights, and great conversation. I would recommend this pub as an excellent place for a drink with friends, or a group night out. Would strongly recommend!

Great venue for live music, supporting local bands, friendly staff

I arrived at the Red lion for a meal with a friend the menu was very appetising and easy to navigate. The service at the bar was quick and easy. The meal come out looking amazing and well presented, the steak was cooked to perfection and the onions were to die for Chef Simon done a stunning job. The waiter I think his name was Luke was very polite and conscientious fast with service and made sure our food was as wanted. The pub clean and tidy and well presented.

A smokey greeting, they had just lit the fires. A warm welcome from mine host. We were going to eat. However an old website had been seen. No food available. Paulton Rovers catering came to our rescue. We were playing them hence our visit to the towns hostelries.

No ice No change No clean glasses so dirty being reused for new customers!! Avoid like the plague. Poor organisation bar staff do not have a clue what they are doing, lacked manners to!!

Bad tempered landlord either drunk or stoned I advise avoiding this pub. Outside smoking on arrival and made it clear he was not going to serve until he had finished his smoke

Good value budget hotel. Didn't use the bar as our friends were staying elsewhere (at twice the cost) but our room was fine. Trolls might find fault with a little peeling paintwork or the wonky toilet roll holder but basically this was clean, comfortable, and quiet at a great price, with a nice cooked breakfast included. Would stay here again if in the area.

Lovely breakfast with my friend today. My scrambled eggs were really tasty plus beans & granary bread. My friend had a full English with alterations - no mushrooms or tomaties, extra sausage & beans for the baby - no trouble at all & a bargain at around £6/7. Very pleasant landlord & wife - very accomodating .

There is new management and the Pub re-opened in September. They cleaned up the pub and it is very nice for a pint or a meal.

A party of 4 people and only one meal was ok. The 2 ham meals where dry and had been left in a warmer. The chilli that was ordered was to hot and unable to eat it. Don't eat at the Red Loin

Went to try the carvery at the Red Lion today and was really impressed with the food. It is SO much nicer than it used to be under old management. The meat is freshly carved and you help yourself to veg etc the veg was really fresh with a wide variety, huge yorshire puddings and fab roast potatoes. Gravy was especially delicious! I do hope the new management pick up trade as this is a local pub with fabulous sunday lunches. We also had a take away and it had a generous amount of meat. Will deo go again.

Today visited not impressed. Changed ownership. My first concern why it was dead and only person there. Apart from two other people turning up while we're waiting for food and didn't stop very long and changed their mind's heard them say it's really cold in here. The Place was freezing cold. Breakfast was substandard bacon was like eating plastic sausages were reheated as well and felt the meal wasn't very hot just warmed up. Only thing I enjoyed was the toast because it wasn't burnt which I give one star for that and girl who served me was polite and helpful so another star for that . But won't be returning.

Went in today for a roast dinner with my partner and friend. Payed and didn't question the price (thought it had gone up). Said it was a carvery but it wasn't, they brought out the meat, roaster, parsnips Yorkshire puddings and gravey. Got told the veg was over on the side and help ourselves. Poor selection of veg for what we paid. The meat was so tough I couldn't cut it ot eat it. Utter shame as the previous owners did that pud justice with the roast they served. I hope it improves as it's my local.

Great Sunday lunch, friendly staff.

This restaurant continues every week to serve excellent roast dinners. The seating is basic but the food is home cooked, the gravy is delicious and the veg is always fresh. Long may it continue

Had a lovely breakfast here you can pick what you like a very nice pub and frienly staff this was my first visit for breakfast but im told they do a really good roast eat in or take away but ive yet to try that..would recomend the breakfast though.

This is not an upgraded cafe offering an expensive breakfast menu, but a decent pub trying to make the most of its business, offering a pick and mix breakfast menu at a very good value, including filter coffee, with an extra mug of at 50p. Well worth a visit and we will be back again.

Spotlessly clean, lovely attentive staff. A role model for village eating without the 'frilly' menu which push up prices. Good wholesome food, so freshly prepared. The 'All Day Breakfast' contains 18 choices, yes 18. The diner choses what they want, any amount of whatever, individually cooked, not fatty. The menu is consistent with a good pub menu, can not speak high enough of the service, even catered for my gluten free bread. We travel ten miles for good old fashioned service and wholesome food, highly recommended.

We tried their Breakfast offering, and it was good food at a very good price. The Menu is structured for the number of items you require, for example a fried egg, rasher of bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms etc, are an item each, and you can choose 4, 6, 8, 10 etc items, all with a free cup of Tea/Coffee. I choose the 10 items and had a good filling breakfast. The choices were extensive including Onion Rings etc, and the food quality and service were fine, although to be honest the sausages were ‘Catering Quality’, but it was all very edible. However that said, the surroundings are austere, cold and impersonal with only basic seating at the tables. In general the Red Lion could desperately do with a makeover to add some ‘cheer’ into the place. A good value for money breakfast, but I would not choose to visit again until it is ‘brightened up’.

Me and some friends meet here every couple of months for a breakfast and a catch up. And every time we come here the food is excellent. The service is brilliant. Am intending to try their grill nights and carvery in the next few months aswell as I have heard glowing reports. Keep up the great work

The staff are so friendly and willing to help from the landlords to the waitress. The Sunday roast is excellent value for money and quality grub too.

Where do i start this place is just awesome! The hosts are very accomadating make you feel very welcome at all times. Service at the bar and serving our food was outstanding! The roast dinner we had varied from beef,turkey or gammon and even a vegetarian option it was out of this world the portion size was massive i struggled to eat all of it but everything on my plate was delicious and i was even offered if i wanted to take the rest of my food home with me. The decor is modern and up to date not old fashion like someone commented i think they need to go to specsavers to be honest if they think its old fashion! Leeann and Will are fantastic hosts we couldnt ask for a better place to celebrate our works do and will be booking to have our christmas party there again! I have also been up there for breakfasts and that is just as good. Keep up the good work Leeann and Will you are all doing a fantastic job i certainly love coming up the Red Lion not just for the food but for a drink and the entertainment aswell!
