Stayed nearby and walked here for supper. What a proper English pub! I can't say enough good about them. Delightful service, friendly company, and more menu choices than I could process. I had the ploughmans, my wife the fish & chips, and both were excellent. Well-kept ales and cider, too. They made for a really lovely evening. I only wish they were located down the street from my house in the US.

This is a charming local pub, with good food, great ale, and friendly staff. A fire burning in the evening. What distinguishes this from other pubs in the area is this is truly a local, supported by villagers who can walk to the pub and walk home after. Off the beaten tourist track, but well worth the detour.

What a great place in the Nadder Valley! This pub is a real gem: The ales are excellent, well kept and draught from casks in the Bar, the food is delicious and the quiet garden is a perfect place to relax or listen to music occasionally performed at OpenMic. But most of all the owners are very attentive and friendly. We felt welcome from the very start. Ron, Ruth and Oliver not only gave us very useful information about nearby events and interesting places but introduced us heartily to the locals and made us familiar with local history. Now i. e. we know the place where Ralf Fiennes grew up. The staff is exceptionally friendly and loving. This pub is one in a million. The evenings we spent there were an absolute highlight during our holiday. Johanna and Jürgen

We stopped here (on the recommendation of the Good Beer Guide app) on the drive from Cornwall to Surrey. And what a find it was! A beautiful building in wonderful surroundings. Fantastic friendly staff. A wonderful old-school pub landlord, really jolly and friendly. Good wholesome food served with a smile, even though we ordered only 15 minutes before food stopped. And for me, best of all, lovely ale served on gravity from barrels behind the bar. Sheer heaven! This will now be a regular stop for us on our journeys to and from Cornwall!

During our visit to historic Tisbury, the Boot Inn was the only place open for supper, but we didn't mind in the least. Ollie quickly made us at home and for the week of our visit we adopted the corner table as our own. It became clear that the Boot is definitely the village living room with many faces appearing daily for a pint and a chat and you immediately felt involved in the community. The Boot's permanent menu offers traditional pub fare with fresh pizzas a surprising (and tasty) addition and the chalkboard menu tempted with additional specials. The venison burger was delicious, albeit a little messy, and for those who are adventurous the local "Faggots and Mash" were delicious. Faggots, as we found out, are large meatballs made with pork and some pork offal. I generally avoid offal, but after having a bite of my husband's portion I can say the blend offers just the right balance of flavours that I wouldn't hesitate to order it myself. Indeed, during our visit I never had the chance as it proved to be a popular item on the menu and they were sold out. While we chose to dine inside, the Boot also offers a lovely beer garden out back which we can only imagine is perfect during the height of summer. Well priced and well located. If coming from the Village centre it is a bit of a gentle hill for those with mobility issues.

Popped in here on a rainy Sunday after a last minute phone call to check they had a table. Very friendly atmosphere and filled with really friendly locals. The roasts had run out but a full menu was still available. We opted for three very good pizzas, a steak and mash, and a scampi and chips. The food, after a bit of a wait, was very good. Pizza in a pub isn’t normally something I’d go for but on a recent recommendation I was glad I did. All the food was finished and then some good portions of dessert. Prices are very reasonable. Really very good indeed.

An ancient hostelry with low ceilings and small toilets. We booked Sunday lunch for 7 persons and were accommodated in a small room off the main bar. Once settled our drink order was taken and supplied. later they took our food order and 6 of us had the fixed Sunday lunch with beef or pork or chicken. The other person ordered fish and chips. There was quite a wait for the food and the fish person was well into his meal by the time the rest came. Any possible complaints were forgotten once we started to dine. The fish was large and beautifully prepared - the chips? Wow! They were extremely large and perfectly cooked. The roasts? Each had about 6 different vegetables, a home made Yorkshire and very large slices of meat. Different gravies were supplied for each meat. Extra vegetables were offered but not required though one person had an extra Yorkshire. Those of us who were able to force ourselves to eat more had deserts. Everything was well presented and really home made except the ice cream.Would we go again? Well - - I hate to say this as it may cause it to become too popular - - But you bet! The quality of the food plus the warmth of the staff more than overcame any minor quibbles. I can't wait to go back.

We visited here, as was recommended by some friends. Unfortunately we were disappointed by the food. We had curry, one Madras and a jalfrezi with rice and poppadoms. Both curries were bland and tasteless with very little meat. Poppadoms were covered in oil, which was very unpleasant. On a positive note the service was good, although we felt they were a little out of their depth. Nice little pub which has potential, but not somewhere we would choose to eat again.

...or do I? For all pubs to be equal, it would mean that places like 'The Boot Inn' wouldn't be as special as they deserve to be. Here is a pub that is so rare among its peers, that it effectively stands head and shoulders above them all. This is quite possibly, my favourite pub visit, ever.A friend and I stopped for lunch on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon, having completed the first half of a bike ride from Jack Thurston's excellent 'Lost Lanes West' book, in which 'The Boot Inn' is recommended. We were thirsty, hungry and in need of a short rest - and the pub provided the perfect remedy on all counts. Cool, refreshing cider, the best pub lunch I've ever been served, and a delightful beer garden in which to enjoy it all.The food was incredible. I had whitebait and chips with a brilliant tartare sauce; while my friend had a bacon, brie and chutney baguette, also with chips. Both were fresh, plentiful, well-presented and absolutely delicious. Prices were refreshingly fair for the fantastic quality of this food. And let's not forget the all-important element of the pub's atmosphere. When I said that I wish ALL pubs could be this way, I think there's a bit of nostalgia in that wish. I recall memories of spending afternoons in places like this, thirty years ago, with my parents, as we explored Devon and Cornwall - and those memories feel faded and hazy, like an old Polaroid snap - not just because of the passage of time, but also because so many pubs just aren't like that anymore. I expect less from a pub these days, as if it's foolish to expect better. Chain pubs. Overpriced. Contrived, manicured surroundings. Unwelcoming. Crap food disguised by gastro-pub menus and pricing. It all amounts to lower expectations. And this is why places like 'The Boot Inn', rare as hidden gems, are so enlivening in their ability to remind us all what a pub should be.Thanks to all at 'The Boot Inn', (including the friendly local family and their visitors we chatted to in the garden - Wolves fans!) for keeping the traditions of good pub-keeping alive.

I went to The Boot with my wife for lunch today. If I lived nearer I'd be there all the time. Inside it's cosy, not cramped. Local beer from the wood. A varied menu, plus specials on the board: I had a bacon and brie baguette, (gorgeously gooey), served with a salad and delicious skinny fries, and my wife had thick cut ham and eggs with a good salad in place of the standard fries. We ate in the grassy garden at the back, listening to birds singing in the trees. What could be better on a nice day in May?

We visited Tisbury when our sister moved there, it's a picturesque and great little place with a host of country pubs, independent shops and friendly locals. It was when we decided to venture up the high street, that we found The Boot Inn, a small pub that looked old but perhaps a hidden gem? yup, bad idea.. Whilst country pubs are known for being rustic, great food and a sense of the local community.. The Boot Inn is opposite to that. The service felt tired, the barman looked like he rolled out of bed and could barely keep things together. The food was FROZEN.. why hire a chef? why not just say that your kitchen is sponsored by Iceland or Aldi? because that's what the food was, really poor quality fish and chips from frozen and it was sad that they were charging for this.. needless to say we wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, because we don't believe in places that don't care.

I love the Boot and always have. It was the first pub we tried out in 1991 when we first became incomers! We were made welcome then and we still are. Ron and Ruth and family always give the warm and familiar hospitality you'd expect from guardians of the village. Ever since Eldridge Pope brewery folded or disappeared or whatever independent breweries do, the Turners have taken craft beers to a different level. They've always supported local ales and always provided a warm welcome. If you get turfed out by Ron when it's his bedtime he even makes you feel special as you step out into the cold air!I wanted to write a review because the Turners allowed my wife and I to host my birthday bash in their marquee. It was a punk themed do and despite my efforts to play old punk songs my anarchic daughter managed to trash the soundtrack to our celebrations by putting on the Village People's YMCA! Now that's anarchy!A great time was had by all and we respectfully left at a reasonable hour...after tidying up...and paying for our drinks...and not trashing the place...or shouting...or fighting. So rock 'n' roll eh? x

This pub probably needs no recommendation as it must be renowned but I had such a good supper there I have to add to the accolades. As I avoid wheat & dairy and don't eat meat, I generally find it quite difficult at a pub to pick anything other than jacket potato. Fish pie was on the menu but with a pastry top, but I was immediately offered it without this, and with veg of my choice. Fish pie duly arrived in dish filled to the brim and absolutely delicious, with a generous helping of the green veg I'd chosen. And the wine was good too.

Friendly landlord who discussed his beers at depth, he obviously knew his stuff and good old English pub food. Was surprised that they have a range of home made curries (eating a curry at lunch time seemed wrong so we didnt try) and have a pizza oven as well. Would highly recommend and will be returning at somestage!

Good, friendly, basic pub. We went for lunch with our two boys. After receiving a warm welcome, we ordered our drinks (unfortunately I couldn't have one of the real ales). The food arrived promptly and was very good, nothing fancy, just good wholesome food. The pizza's are great, as our youngest will testify, he ate the lot.The place could do with a bit of a spring clean, but that won't stop us returning another day.

My partner and I popped in for Sunday lunch. The small car park was full but we found a parking spot on the road nearby. The Boot Inn is a lovely old stone building with a lovely original interior. There is a pleasant bear garden, and a large original inglenook fireplace, which housed a routing log fire on the day we attended. The landlord was very friendly and there was an excellent choice of well kept cask ales. We chose a table near the inglenook, and chose the game casserole from the specials board. This was excellent, and was served with freshly cooked vegetables. I followed this with the bread and butter pudding, which was brilliant. We noticed the pub was very dog friendly and had a very good welcoming atmosphere.

We visited for Sun Lunch with friends. The pub is a grey stone pub located in Tisbury. The owner and his wife were friendly and couldn't really have done more to help additionslly they have some Nice cask ales on. The menu was limited but reasonably priced, we opted for roast allround. The were of moderate size but nicely cooked. The whole experience was undermined by the messy and unkempt state of the premises and garden. It could even be described as dirty. Great little boozer, wouldn't take friends there for food again.

We arrived towards the end of lunch time. This was no problem we (and our dog) were given a warm welcome and good food especially the bread and butter pudding which was rated 10 out of 10 by the three of us. What a pleasure to eat food that was cooked well and not ordered in frozen and then heated.

Most of the reviews here seem to be for the wrong pub entirely! Look at the photo, is this where you ate? This Boot Inn is in Tisbury, Wiltshire and is run by Ron and Ruth Turner, it is not a hotel, has no reception and no separate restaurant. It's just a very good village pub that serves very good food.Someone should sort this out!

A fantastic traditional pub that offers great food and a warm, dry humoured welcome. Family and animal friendly, a real treat for all age groups and budgets, whether you sit in the pub or in the equally as good beer garden, The Boot will not disappoint.

I turned up at about 15 minutes after they stopped serving food. They could have said no, but they said yes. I asked for a simple ham egg and chips. It is the best ham egg and chips i Have ever had.I know its simple food, but it was really great. The eggs were very local and so well fried and crispy that I wish I had had four. The Ham was divine and plenty of it. I really mean devine...I think I am trying to say, when someone takes this care on the simple things, you know it will always be good. They were friendly and the menu was considerable with a great specials board. It is a beautiful part of the world, so when you are discovering it, have some grub at this place...Really loved it, ohhh, although the chips were frozen chips, they were lovely, crispy and crunchy....mmmmmmmmm.THey also had sem great local ales, unfortunately I was driving and could not partake. I just love the whole setting and the village in general. Wel worth a stop, call ahead and find out feeding times...

We came across this lovely old inn on a drive to Bath. The landlord was exceptionally friendly and amenable and went out of his way to accomodate the needs of our toddler. Lunch was delicious. We would particularly recommend the pizzas and they serve excellent coffee. Certainly a place worth returning to.

We recently visited The Boot Inn in Tisbury whilst on a weekend away. We had popped in there on the Friday afternoon whilst on a wander, and were made very welcome, even though they were busy preparing to host a wedding so there was no food available. The landlord recommended numerous pubs and restaurants to visit for meals. The following evening we decided to have dinner there, and were not disappointed. The landlord once again made us feel very welcome, taking the time to make conversation and find out how our day had been. Although the menu is not extensive the food was fantastic. Clean plates all round. If we're ever in Tisbury again, we'd definitely pop in! Just how a country pub should be.

Ron & Ruth agreed to allow us to use their marquee and hold our wedding party at their pub...oh my goodness! It just couldn't have been better! Their relaxed and friendly atmospheric pub was the most perfect venue for, what turned out to be the best party ever! I can't thank Ron and Ruth enough for their help and brilliant service...with close to 200 guests it might have been a big ask but it went without a single hitch! The most perfect local in every sense!

Only 2nd time in a 'spoons and it was really nice, well most of it. I'm nit a gambler so I was taken with the slot machine things or the big TV' s showing racing but thaf was my only dislike. We enjoyed some really good good, I had the veggie burger and it came with a drink so I had wine, my partner the curry and a pint, what a bargain. We are hoping to move to the area and if we do I think I'm going to enjoy visiting many more times. Friendly staff, nice drinks and food.
