We went with a large party of family and friends and enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch. The food was first class and the service also, front of house very friendly and attentive and all the staff went out of their way to make ours an enjoyable visit. Only three small reservations. (i) Some of the main courses were just warm and not hot when they were served. This can sometimes occur with a large party but a hotplate or two in the kitchen would solve the problem. (ii) The premises would benefit from offering a draft lager. There was only bottles available. A draft like Peroni or Heineken would have been great. (iii) The pear crumble sweet was not great. The crumble was scratchy and the (tinned) pear was dry, You might want to remove it from the menu and replace it with something else- we left ours. Otherwise excellent- thank you very much and see you again soon.

Popped in early Saturday evening. First time for me but our friends had been before. Place was actually very quiet but they suited us. We only wanted a drink so shared a lovely bottle of wine. Decoration inside the pub is amazing! Will definitely visit again 👍🏻

Bon bar à vins, avec un assez large choix de vins / pétillants au verre. Ne serait-ce que pour le cadre typiquement britannique, le lieu vaut le détour !

We stopped off for drinks as this had been flagged up in our London Walks book. The welcome was wonderful, and we shared a fab bottle of red. When we were about to leave, our lovely bar server offered to show us around. The ‘tour’ was really interesting, and we felt like valued customers, despite only being there for 1 drink. We left to go to a restaurant for a pre-booked lunch, but on arrival we were told we would need to return our table in 45 mins due to some maintenance work. We left immediately, and returned to Boot & Flogger for a delicious lunch in excellent surroundings. Worth a stop if ever in Southwark!

Very disappointed. The steak was shared. It was very fatty, under cooked (and I like it medium rare usually), and badly cooked. Half the steak was fat, with very little meat to eat. It was over priced, expensive, bad value for money. Been here before and it was good (before COVID). Service was good, waitress was very attentive. Wine was good, and also Irish coffee was good.

Ate here on a Friday evening and loved it. Service was excellent, on point but not intrusive. Opted for the bangers and mash and hubby had chicken with put lentils both were fantastic and super hot. Did not have room for pudding but will spread the word and definitely return when we are next in London, a true gem of a place.

We visited here on a Saturday lunchtime to meet friends before a theatre trip. We arrived at 12.30 and the place was very quiet. Service was good as a result. In fact, Juan, our waiter was excellent. We had three courses and soft drinks and the bill for two was about £60 per head. Perhaps I am out of touch with London prices, but it seemed in the high side. The food was simple but good for what it was. The place is dark inside, but feels historic. Finding it was not easy as the entrance is set back from the road up some steps. Our biggest complaint was that the ladies toilets were downstairs which was difficult for one of our party to reach as she walks with a stick. The gents was on the ground floor - interesting allocation of space!

I visit this restaurant when I wish to meet one of my business associates since it is easier for him to meet me there. This is a charming and cosy public house where we are always made to feel very welcome. We are tucked away in a corner where we can talk and enjoy our food without too much noise. The beer and pre lunch drinks are excellent and the simple and basic food perfectly cooked. The staff go out of their way to make us feel special clients. I look forward to my next visit,

Always come here before Shakespeare at The Globe. Despite being a stonesthrow from London Bridge and Borough Market, the place is never less than serene. Food is good but not cheap; wine selection is excellent - but not cheap. Bit of a theme developing here. What I would say, is that the atmosphere and the staff are top notch and we are always happy to pay a little over the odds for such a good experience.

Lovely venue let down by disappointing, expensive food. My Potted Crab starter was bland. It went downhill from there. For main I ordered the sirloin steak, medium rare. It wasn't the thick juicy steak I'd hoped and was over cooked, medium well. Side of stem broccoli was soft and mushy (microwaved?), not al dente. Lemon tart dessert was again bland - not zesty or tangy. Their website boast of good food is sadly far from the reality. Go for a drink perhaps but don't bother with the food.

Once again, a fantastic visit to the boot and flogger. Came for a late lunch on a Thursday for business and wasn't disappointed. I chose the lamb which was cooked to perfection and the accompanying jus matched perfectly. My two fellow diners felt just as passionate about their meals. Was a soft drink lunch, but the service was impeccable (as usual). My favourite venue in London for graat food & great service without the pomp & pageantry which it could easily command. Visiting the city purely in search of some beautiful drinking spots, this topped the bunch. I wasn't sure what to expect so when greeted at the door by a Maitre d' and given a list of bottled beers, I thought I'd misjudged this as a pub - and sure, it's probably more aimed towards a bottle of wine with canapes, but we were made to feel very welcome in a stunning bar area with comfy leather seats, and a warm atmosphere. After speaking to the staff for a while over the venue itself and how they operate, I'm looking forward to finding an excuse to come back, maybe sample some food and a bottle of vintage port.

I booked a table for some of our family and very special friends over from Ireland, we had been before but just for the occasional meal, this was a very important gathering. This is a real hidden gem it’s so easy to miss, hundreds of years old situated opposite an ancient graveyard which was for prostitutes and ne’er do wells. We were put in a private dining room that had such awesome character it felt like we had gone back 100 years. The server (a lovely French lady I forgot her name) was amazing she was bubbling with personality, character and a great sense of humour she really made our visit special. The food was great we had a wide variety and everyone enjoyed it, the fish pie does come with a boiled. Egg inside so if you are not into eggs probably best to avoid. Anyway great place highly recommended, I’d give the service six stars if I could. Oh and we had the table for the whole night, none of the “you have it for 90 minutes” rubbish that is so common these days in London

Recent visit to the Boot and Flogger with a group of friends for a Christmas get together in early December:* Extremely slow service - waited 20-30 minutes for the main course, meals then brought over a 20 minute period. * They brought the (overcooked) seabass first, then took it away 'because other meals weren't ready', when the fish returned after everything else it was inedible.* Main courses VERY overcooked, meats and fish like cardboard, almost inedible - cooked in advance then kept hot in oven or under lamps) until served. 'Roast' potatoes hardly browned, so hard they could hardly be cut. Other vegetables SO overcooked (again kept warm in the same way) they were almost inedible.* Beef and turkey literally swimming in generic ' gravy', apparently needed to moisten the hard dry meats.* Paid an extra £32 for 2 glasses of mediocre wine and some bottled water (the bill was shared).* First and last courses were fine: simple, cold, couldn't be ruined in the same way.* All food was booked and ordered well in advance, so they knew what to expect, but clearly had neither sufficient staff nor cooking ability. They were very busy but should have been prepared and rehearsed their performance beforehand so they could manage their service to meet customer expectations.I'd definitely not go there again or recommend to others. The Boot and Flogger has definitely lost the plot! After so many years' experience I'd expect a polished good quality output, this was quite the opposite.

Booked for our 12 year anniversary dinner, fairly last minute. The actual restaurant itself is lovely and exactly what we were looking for. Cosy, comfortable, quirky, casual. The food took absolutely ages because they had a big party going on elsewhere, which we didn't mind because they gave us loads of free wine to compensate and we were enjoying each other's company and not in a hurry to go anyway. Unfortunately, the food was shocking! I had the Gnocchi, which was inedible. The waiter really didn't seem surprised when I only ate 1 bite and agreed with me that it was terrible. My husband had a steak, which was over cooked and gristly. We decided we'd had enough by the time the dessert menu came so can't comment on that. The wine was delicious!

I used to visit and recommend this place frequently, especially when I lived nearby up until a year ago. I came back and I guess something changed. Service was not up to scratch. We ordered a nice bottle of white wine which was way too warm. Complained immediately about it and we were offered 'a bucket of ice'. Ok, I think what they should have done is offer a new, cold, bottle, but anyway i thought a bucket of ice will do. However this was no bucket, but one of those coolers, with a tiny bit of ice at the bottom. It took forever to cool. Waiter kept coming to top up only to be told to wait because it was still warm. By the time it was almost at the right temp, it was too late and we'd almost finished dinner. The waiter was quick to offer another bottle, but we had to decline, in case it was warm again.

Food was fine, and the place still has its charm, but in a wine bar, getting a £35 bottle of white served at room temperature is unforgivable. Service should know that, and they didn't know or care. Probably not their fault, but management should keep an eye on those things and have staffed trained accordingly. It's a shame because this was my go-to favourite place in the area, but I doubt I'll be back anytime soon.

Service was prompt and courteous. Food was very good. Close to Borough market but away from tourist spots. Was very nice place to have traditional British meal.

We had a great time here, I booked a table for 8 people celebrating my birthday. They gave us a private dining room which felt very special. The food and wine options were great and the service was bang on, the right blend of being around and leaving us to it. The entire party was satisfied, we'll be back!

Being partial to Davy's wine bars (I live 100m from Davy's in Greenwich, but this sadly has had a horrendous makeover which has spoilt it completely - it is now horrible, with the cosy alcoves and old fashioned quirky dodgy floors being replaced by a nondescript plastic environment that could be anywhere - whoever designed this needs sacking!). So will never visit my "local" again having been a frequent user - even the food menu has been poncified there. So it was a delight to revisit the Boot and Flogger for lunch, having only been there once before for a drink prior to a visit to the nearby Menier Chocolate Factory. The service is first class, from the straighbacked "London Club" type young men to the effervescent down to earth Londoner lady (Kerry?). Altogether an extremely pleasant place to dine, with its wonderful furniture, fine wood panelling, some small select and quirky cubby hole dining areas, and good old fashioned "pub fare". An extremely pleasant experience all round, and I will happily return here and avoid the places nearer to London Bridge.

This is a long review, so apologies. This could be a good Pub. Just poorly run. Selection on cold bottled beer extremely poor. The Duke of York 4 minutes south and The Trinity 3 minutes north have a
