I have been here many times over the years, with friends, family and on business: but something has changed - have you got a new chef? Historically I have raved about this place, but based on my latest visit I can no longer do this… service remains very good, ambiance also good….but some of the great food items have changed. Ok, so Dorset crab with Melba toast could be a seasonal absence. My main gripe is the “bangers and mash” - this used to be sensational, now definitely no Madeira in the gravy! Why? Also smoked mackerel salad should be better - such a small amount of fish would have fitted in a thimble! Please get back to your best.

Been fortunate enough to have eaten here a few times with friends over the years and the experience has been memorable, however not tonight!! The £36.00 steak I had was not rendered down properly and had bone fragments and gristle. The rest of the meal was fine as was the wine. Perhaps it’s a new chef at the helm so could be forgiven

Had a fantastic Saturday evening at Boot & Flogger. It's an oasis of calm and good taste. We had a lovely bottle of Morgon, which was reasonably priced and a beautiful glass of Pedro Ximénez to round things off. The food was unpretentious and very well executed. We'll be back!

Tucked away down a little side street in Borough, The Boot and Flogger is a lovely little place. The dining room and bar are a lovely throw back to an earlier time, with little tables and wing back chairs along one wall and a bar on the other. A very good wine list accompanies a varied but not over long menu (plus several specials). Nothing here is super fancy but everything is cooked well and there are options to suit everyone. I will say that a couple of things were under seasoned but that is personal preference and I was able to top up the seasoning myself. Also the steaks were not the best and probably the only thing on the menu I would avoid. I think perhaps the grill could be little hotter to achieve a really go sear but I'm being very fussy at this point. One other very minor point is that the lighting over the table is a little bright. Satnd out dish for me is the smoked salmon starter. It's simple yet has been elevated with a light and crisp salad of perfectly picked cucumber and a sweet chilli dressing. It complements the mild smoke of the excellent quality salmon and really is perfect. So many places will just serve you a plate of salmon with a lemon wedge and some stale bread, but this is prepared with thought and care and is perfect. Staff are all really nice and the atmosphere is perfect. Aircon to keep it from being too hot and the wood panelling makes for a nice atmosphere where background chatter is pleasant and not overly loud. Three courses each, a bottle of wine, bottle of water and a glass of port came to £150 including service. Not cheap but worth it

A pleasant surprise, had drank here a number of times (fab Rioja ) but not eaten before. Went with a few friends and the food was good, I started with the salmon and cucumber salad, the salmon was a very generous portion. I did double salmon with the main as a salmon and pancetta salad , the fish and chips, crab and prawn linguine my friends had also looked good. Service was as usual very good and much higher than your expect at a pub. I didn’t get the ladies name who looked after us but she was very helpful. They didn’t have gluten free pasta when we visited sadly but that’s my only gripe which is pretty minor

We went with a large party of family and friends and enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch. The food was first class and the service also, front of house very friendly and attentive and all the staff went out of their way to make ours an enjoyable visit. Only three small reservations. (i) Some of the main courses were just warm and not hot when they were served. This can sometimes occur with a large party but a hotplate or two in the kitchen would solve the problem. (ii) The premises would benefit from offering a draft lager. There was only bottles available. A draft like Peroni or Heineken would have been great. (iii) The pear crumble sweet was not great. The crumble was scratchy and the (tinned) pear was dry, You might want to remove it from the menu and replace it with something else- we left ours. Otherwise excellent- thank you very much and see you again soon.

When we were about to leave, our lovely bar server offered to show us around. The ‘tour’ was really interesting, and we felt like valued customers, despite only being there for 1 drink. We left to go to a restaurant for a pre-booked lunch, but on arrival we were told we would need to return our table in 45 mins due to some maintenance work. We left immediately, and returned to Boot & Flogger for a delicious lunch in excellent surroundings. Worth a stop if ever in Southwark!

Very disappointed. The steak was shared. It was very fatty, under cooked (and I like it medium rare usually), and badly cooked. Half the steak was fat, with very little meat to eat. It was over priced, expensive, bad value for money. Been here before and it was good (before COVID). Service was good, waitress was very attentive. Wine was good, and also Irish coffee was good.

We visited here on a Saturday lunchtime to meet friends before a theatre trip. We arrived at 12.30 and the place was very quiet. Service was good as a result. In fact, Juan, our waiter was excellent. We had three courses and soft drinks and the bill for two was about £60 per head. Perhaps I am out of touch with London prices, but it seemed in the high side. The food was simple but good for what it was. The place is dark inside, but feels historic. Finding it was not easy as the entrance is set back from the road up some steps. Our biggest complaint was that the ladies toilets were downstairs which was difficult for one of our party to reach as she walks with a stick. The gents was on the ground floor - interesting allocation of space!

Lovely venue let down by disappointing, expensive food. My Potted Crab starter was bland. It went downhill from there. For main I ordered the sirloin steak, medium rare. It wasn't the thick juicy steak I'd hoped and was over cooked, medium well. Side of stem broccoli was soft and mushy (microwaved?), not al dente. Lemon tart dessert was again bland - not zesty or tangy. Their website boast of good food is sadly far from the reality. Go for a drink perhaps but don't bother with the food.

Visiting the city purely in search of some beautiful drinking spots, this topped the bunch. I wasn't sure what to expect so when greeted at the door by a Maitre d' and given a list of bottled beers, I thought I'd misjudged this as a pub - and sure, it's probably more aimed towards a bottle of wine with canapes, but we were made to feel very welcome in a stunning bar area with comfy leather seats, and a warm atmosphere. After speaking to the staff for a while over the venue itself and how they operate, I'm looking forward to finding an excuse to come back, maybe sample some food and a bottle of vintage port.

I booked a table for some of our family and very special friends over from Ireland, we had been before but just for the occasional meal, this was a very important gathering. This is a real hidden gem it’s so easy to miss, hundreds of years old situated opposite an ancient graveyard which was for prostitutes and ne’er do wells. We were put in a private dining room that had such awesome character it felt like we had gone back 100 years. The server (a lovely French lady I forgot her name) was amazing she was bubbling with personality, character and a great sense of humour she really made our visit special. The food was great we had a wide variety and everyone enjoyed it, the fish pie does come with a boiled. Egg inside so if you are not into eggs probably best to avoid. Anyway great place highly recommended, I’d give the service six stars if I could. Oh and we had the table for the whole night, none of the “you have it for 90 minutes” rubbish that is so common these days in London

I love this pub but was confused by your booking system. I was booked for 8 45 and confirmed that we had 15 mins to play with. We attended a huge concert at Southwark cathedral across the road. By the time we battled across to the pub it was 8 55. The pub phoned us to say were we coming. I told them I was literally crossing the road to them. When we arrived the pub was empty. We found this v strange as the week before I phoned the boot to try and book a large table to take many of the musicians who had been appearing at Southwark. I was told they were full. I was also told that last orders for food were 9 30. On Saturday night the manager told us people hadn’t turned up. They were totally empty and also told us last orders were at 9 pm. So either they are very unlucky or they all wanted to ho home early. So annoying as this is a good pub and I told friends at Southwark that they couldn’t join us as the pub was full. I could have brought 30 people. But they didn’t want the business I would like clarification as to when Saturday closing time actually is and also last orders.

Exceptionally good. Had my 21st birthday dinner here for 25 people and we were catered for excellently. My highest commendation to Jose who looked after us and made sure the evening went smoothly. Will be back again very soon!

I went with my wife and found it to be a lovely spot for a cosy drink and meal. I'd not been to a Davy's for quite some time, so I was delighted that this restaurant (the original!) still retains the traditional charm and ambience of the brand that I recall. Great food, very helpful and friendly staff, and great service. Thoroughly recommend and will be returning.

Agree with all the positive reviews on TA. Old, original Davy's pub/bar/restaurant so don't expect fancy cocktails and funky music! But we are of a certain age where we like 'tradional' and thats what you get here. Good old tradional perfect service and solid tasty...

I loved this bar. It has a cosy, informal vibe and had a good atmosphere without being too busy on a Friday evening. Very large selection of wines and good food.

Excellent Staff, very polite, professional, and friendly. We were a group of 7 and we had a last-minute cancellation and the staff told us not to worry, some restaurants can be very stroppy. Add to this the delicious food and all-round it's a good night...

Apparently one of the oldest pubs in London. It was very busy when we went a few days before Christmas though.

Very busy when I visited for lunch. However, the service was very good. Fish and chips were amazing, beautifully presented and high quality.

What can I say. You have to get your own menu and cutlery. Order at the bar. Food makes absolutely no sense. Spare ribs floating in some kind of gravy. Other meats were also tough. In itself a nice location on the water, but you really shouldn't eat anything here. At most get a beer.
