The Bishop in Southwark

This was a last minute booking after a long walk and what a treat. The staff and pace was really nice and chilled, perfect portions. Best part; sticky toffee pudding! Yummmmaaaay 🤤

Despite visiting on multiple occasions, as we’re locals to the neighborhood, for casual afternoon drinks, after work meets and evening hangouts with friends - our friend was refused to be served and asked to leave for wearing a hat while another friend wore one and we had been there for 2+ hours. Being asked to leave by a bouncer wearing a hat and the DJ wearing a hat - what is this so-called standard you’re setting? Felt quite targeted and such a pretentious route for a casual neighborhood pub to take on.

Was just told to leave because I was wearing a hat, by a bouncer wearing a hat, even though I’d been there for 2 hours. The DJ was also wearing a hat. Potential profiling? Potential homophobia? All 3 male staff wearing hats.

Food was bad and overpriced. Ordered Sunday roast but the meat was so bland, source wasn’t great, the pork was so thick and bland it’s not worth £20. We left most of the food untouched.

Great pub for sport, Saturday night DJ is wicked! Would definitely recommend.

We were looking forward to the food offer in the refurbished pub. They were out of the main vegetarian dish and the other choice - monkfish curry was not in a sauce as expected and quite dry. The table was rickety and staff members didn't know how to fix it so shrugged it off. The huge football screens were a disappointment so wouldn't choose to go there in the evening again. We waited for someone to appear so we could pay our bill and in the end gave up and went to the bar to settle.

First time at this pub. Oscar went out of his way to provide excellent service and created a welcoming environment. Loved our rounds of gin and tonics.

Great pub for food and drinks. The best thing is the atmosphere and since the renovation it's got a really lovely style.

Honestly best food in London time from a long time, kids pasta were delicious, Burger succulent and my salad with tiny slice of steak - marvellous. Amazing team and service, can t wait to come back

My husband and I go to Bishop every Saturday, but I have to admit that we liked the pub better before the renovation, but we have adapted to the new reality :) The girls behind the counter are attentive and smiling. However, two Saturdays ago we noticed that the employee Rodrigo was absent and this week we received the news that he was fired. Rodrigo has worked at the pub for 20 years or more, and this news made us very sad. Unfortunately, we will no longer be going to Bishop. I believe that a company that does not value its employees is also not capable of valuing a simple customer like me. And I will make sure to pass this information on to my friends who go to Bishop as often as we do!

Lovely staff, good food, nice atmosphere

I really liked going to Bishop's for a beer and the atmosphere and also to see my friend Rodrigo. But now with the sad news that he was unfairly fired, I won't set foot in that pub again. Rodrigo was a very hard worker and attentive, I hope that whoever was responsible for him being unfairly fired pays for it.

Jessica is really bubbly, knowledgeable and lovely! Both Jessica and Lorraine are amazing hosts, courteous, polite, informative, friendly and exceeded my expectations. Would definitely come again, and also recommend to my family and friends! The food and drinks where fantastic quality and delicious, and compliments to the chef too! First visit but won't be out last....

Had a great meal at The Bishop before going to the cinema. Super family-friendly, staff were extremely kind to my son and they have a good kids’ menu.

Went with three others. The Sunday roasts were delicious! Perhaps the best pub roast we’ve ever had :) service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Jessica was brilliant really friendly and helpful! We had steak sandwiches and bread so fresh and steak was cooked to perfection! Definitely returning also came other day with my dog really nice atmosphere on a Saturday and again staff were really friendly definitely new local pub they are same brewery as actress but the bishop by far is the better pub 😍

The Bishop is a cracking local, been coming here for years and it has recently had a really good refurb. Everyone is always really friendly and helpful there including Maisie and Jessica!

First time here since the refurb and had a lovely time. Food was lovely and atmosphere was great and Jess was a delight, made our evening all the better!

We are visiting from Australia and wanted a local pub to go to. The food, service and staff made it so special, that we came here twice in one week. We even personally thanked the chef and the owner for such a wonderful experience each time. 5 stars for sure!

The bishop used to be a space for the community of Peckham, now a classist pub where causal clothing like tracksuits are banned (it’s a pub, not a club) I’ve seen my close friends who have grown up down the street been turned away for the clothes they are wearing, the new manager has brought such an uncomfortable, tight ass space to the area. I will never return. I think it’s a disgrace. I have seen friends who have worked in the local areal been refused service for 0 reasoning.

Went for a pub lunch with an old friend before Xmas. £18 for a burger and fries that took 45mins to make. Literally two frozen patties, a bun and some fries. I was expecting something extravagant for that money but these guys are just as awful as “5 morons” that charge near £20. At least there you get more fries. For this money I’m really expecting some decent presentation, some salad perhaps, not just fries, two patties and a bun. No sauce no nothing. Dry and disappointing. The girls behind the bar were very friendly but they could do with more inspiring food, definitely not worth returning, I feel conned for this kind of money.

Lovely refurb although atmosphere has become a little corporate/soulless! Unfortunate to see that new management wishes to replace previous customer base with hooray Henry’s! Was a little bemused as to why entry after 0100hrs is prohibited when the establishment is so desperately in need of footfall! I welcome a review of such policies. On reflection I would personally walk a few yards in the direction of the East Dulwich Tavern or Cherry Tree!

After checking out a few options, I decided to book The Bishop for my friends Christmas dinner. The staff were incredibly flexible and kept in regular contact to ensure everything was organised. The food exceeded all expectations (as a vegan I was especially impressed) and the service was equally impressive; the team were friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout the evening. I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience. A huge thank you to all the managers and staff who helped in the lead-up and made our evening so great!

The Bishop is a main street pub in the heart of Dulwich. A very busy Saturday afternoon with the last of the rugby autumn internationals ( Ireland Vs the Aussies) lots of kids here (with mum's and dads!) good range of keg beers and ciders, also a couple of cask ales on. A jolly place to visit

Amazing burger and chips, they were super crispy, even my dad enjoyed, especially his unoaked Chardonnay which had a wonderful vanilla note without being overpowering. Only improvement could be not to have a massive projector screen in the middle of the dining area.

Delicious food, great service, cosy interior! The food came quickly although it was rather busy. The plates were packed with mouthwatering meat and veggies!

We visited on Sunday as we really wanted a good vegan Sunday roast and upon tons of research we landed on the Bishop. Let me tell you, their vegan Sunday roast is easily one of the best I’ve ever eaten. I am a vegan chef myself and annoyingly it’s hard to be impressed when eating out, especially at non vegan establishments. Well, this was so worth the trip. My only criticism (which can be read as a compliment and you’ll find why soon) is that I would love to see the same dish offered in a larger portion (would happily pay the difference) because if that was offered I would have demolished it with joy. Service was great also, and the pub is looking FRESH 👌🏻 We will 100% be back

We ordered the vegan Sunday roast dinner. We all throughly enjoyed and agreed it was in the top 3 of vegan roasts. Didn’t take a photo as we gulped it down. Would be perfect if they provided a vegan Yorkshire pudding as an option. Friendly service. Definitely returning.

Excellent new renovation to the pub - the food, in a part of town with a lot of strong competition, is seriously good.

We came for a late lunch today. The place had been closed for a little while for a refurbishment. As we came in, we were welcomed by the lovely Jessica who became our host. The place looks impeccable, we felt comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. All the staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Jessica was really nice, professional and friendly. Big thumb from us!

Went here for dinner. And I’m really glad we did! Definitely the best food options/ best menu of all the other pubs along this road. I wasn’t expecting much from this pub and was pleasantly surprised! The portions weren’t HUGE but the food was really high standard. They also had new / unique brewed beers so really nice drinks on offer too!! Choose this place over the others!!

We hired out the Bishop for a joint birthday party. The team was really accommodating and had some great ideas about how to make the event special. Lots of our guests commented on the quality of the food (we had platters at the event to cater for all tastes).

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Bishop on Lordship Lane is a fantastic pub with a cozy vibe. While the beer garden may be small, it’s a lovely spot, and the additional roadside seating at the front is perfect for people-watching on a sunny day. The atmosphere really comes alive on weekends, making it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy good company. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, adding to the great experience. The food is excellent too, with a menu that never disappoints. Definitely worth a visit!

Friday 26th July I was visiting my son for the weekend, he lives in East Dulwich. We had been to a gig at Crystal Palace and decided to pop in to The Bishop for a nightcap! We had a blast! Great music DJ, good atmosphere, friendly service. A tad few than a nightcap was had 😉

Came in to watch the England game and the atmosphere was sensational. I ordered the vegan burger before the game started and it arrived so quickly considering how busy it was! Absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly too.

This is a great local pub! The service is always great and Gabriel was particularly attentive and friendly, he served us quickly and made our stay very pleasant.

Had a great Sunday afternoon watching football here with a friend. Despite it being full of Mother's Day diners (yes I'm a bad son watching football instead of seeing my mum, I know) and it being very busy, the guys at the pub were very accommodating in getting my friend and I set-up with good seats to watch the game. Huge props to Dean in particular for making this happen. Cracking roast too.

A proper pub with atmosphere. Food was really tasty. A few things were unavailable due to a new chef and we arrived late Sunday afternoon for a roast. Great service, great food, generous kids portion sizes and colouring/pens to keep the tiny one busy. Just ticked all the boxes and would happily go again.

After booking somewhere else that had changed the menu on us, the Bishop squeezed us in at the last minute with a table for 5 plus 2 pups on the floor while the football was still on. They rustled up a vegetarian cauliflower steak with trimmings as they had run out of their main veg option, and even two free doggy roasts for our pups. What a lovely evening we had. Friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food, and good vibes.
