I normally sit downstairs but for the last couple of visits I have ventured up the stairs, what a great area to enjoy a drink/breakfast. Breakfast was well presented and tasty with the usual excellent service from the staff.

It was OK, nothing to rave about and pricey for what you get. Had coffee and soup, but the price didn't reflect the quality or the service. Would I visit again.... Not in a rush.

Just had a small breakfast and coffee at the Book Cafe Belper, cost £12.20. Nice coffee, very poor breakfast. Toast that wasn't toasted, a poached egg that was overcooked and hard boiled (I made a point of asking for soft poached), one undercooked sausage, a small portion of beans, and one cheap bacon rasher. Not well cooked and a total rip off. Plenty of options for a decent breakfast at a fair price nearby.

Our first time at the book cafe, we booked a table for breakfast. The place looked clean albeit no soap in the toilets and the lock in the baby changing is dodgy. I went to the counter to say we had a table booked, the girl looked quite confused by this, I presume it was the manager who was sat behind me, told me ‘just to sit anywhere as we’re not busy’ so we found a table that happened to be the table that was reserved for us with my name on it but we’d never been before so was unsure what to do, turns out you have to get your own menus and cutlery etc from the stand but it would of been courteous to of been told. We ordered breakfast at the bar, was told the coffee would be 10 minutes, food was okay, not very hot but was alright but I think £9 for a kids breakfast is quite insulting for one slice of toast, a sausage, a egg and a few button mushrooms. I asked for scrambled eggs on the kids breakfast but was told it would be extra, why? All the other breakfasts have a choice of fried, poached or scrambled so why doesn’t the kids have the choice of scramble, only poached or fried And why would I be charged extra? It’s not a venue that’s close to us so we did travel as it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to try for a while, needless to say I’m not in a rush to go back.

We chose the Bookcafe due to its location to meet up with friends. It’s great due to the fact it’s dog friendly. We really enjoyed it early doors as we had a nervous dog with us and my friend is trying to build her confidence up. We chose off the breakfast menu, and the food came out relatively quickly after our drinks which was great. We have never had bad food here, however my eyes did water at over £30 for two coffees and 2 avo toast. There wasn’t anything on the online ordering service for a child’s breakfast, so we chose to give the little one snacks instead. The restaurant was clean, and the staff very friendly. The only downside is when there is a few more customers in, it does get a little noisy.

Cold, undercooked breakfast. Bacon must have touched the pan and back out again, pancakes cold, waited for what felt like forever. Such a shame.. used to come here every Sunday but now we’ve found much nicer places to go. I’ve tried 3 times since my first disappointing visit and each time has gotten worse so just given up now!

Not really a big fan of the bookcafe but thought I would give it another chance this morning. This morning's visit confirmed my thought's. Waited 40 minutes for breakfast to arrive to be told there had been a mix up with our order. No apology so cancelled our order but still had to pay for our drinks. The female we spoke to needs another training course with regards to customer service! The way she was speaking to the other staff she must be the manager. Bookcafe her man management and customer service skills need reviewing. Pitiful will not be returning and would definitely not recommend to anyone!!

Nice atmosphere, but food below average and overpriced given the quality of the topping applied on top of cold flat breads. Maybe we ordered the wrong item choice! Our First visit and most definitely the last. Just returned from a lunch for 2. Menu sounds inviting but no where near matches the hefty price! No Wi-Fi , much better options in Belper. Please think twice before trying this establishment.

If I could give zero I would. Took an hour to serve food that was then cold. They then ran out of food early afternoon. Took over half an hour to serve a pint of beer for a 70 year adult. Staff had to walk over to table to visibly check the 70 year adult was over 18 years of age Beer was then stale and flat. Very over priced. Miserable serving staff. I’m desperate need of organizing and customer service Dreadful

Never been before so decided to go with a friend. Pleasant, friendly interior with seating outside, downstairs and upstairs, so plenty of room. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and weren't in a rush to throw us out at the end of the day when they were getting ready to close. Food is mainly Eastern Mediterranean, so I had Turkish shawarma, my husband had salt and pepper chicken and friend had Souvlaki. All came promptly and there was plenty of it, especially the Salt and pepper chicken. Finished off with two cakes and mochas. Perhaps a little more pricey than you'd expect looking at the outside, but well worth it for what we had. There is a sister shop in Derby. Small amount of parking round the back, accessed next to the petrol station off the roundabout to Morrisons. 2hrs then you need to ask staff to extend if you are longer than that. Toilets inside.

First time we’ve been in a while and it’s not as good as It used to be. The problems we experienced were: 1/ A wait of nearly an hour for two items and over an hour for the others 2/ Incorrect order 3/ My wife’s meal was served cold 4/ Expensive The waitress did offer a free drink after 45 minutes but even this needed chasing up as we left. Won’t be going again.

So disappointed with the price and lack of care. Having visited before and had enjoyable meals was looking forward to a nice breakfast. Ordered on the app via the QR code on the table. When the food arrived realised we had not received our drinks, told that normally they are ordered at the counter. So were they just ingnored because they were placed with the food order via the app? When the drinks were delivered the glass for the water clearly had dirty water marks all over it. The orange juice was 1/3 full so I was asked if I would like apple juice instead. Bit wierd just bringing a third glass of OJ but taking it back because I opted for a refund as don't like apple juice. The food: I had the sausage ciabatta (advertised as having a vegetarian alternative available) but apparently they just give vegetarian as standard? £6.25 for a dry ciabatta with 2 vegetarian sausages is a clear rip off. Had to ask for butter and cutlery, wasn't given even a napkin. Never got a check back and noone was around on the restaurant floor to ask about the the sausage or to get a napkin so just chalked this one up to a lesson learnt. Seriously though, what happened? It use to be so good. When did they stop caring?

The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and attentive and it was lovely to see Jake the owner helping out too. We all enjoyed a proper traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings, extra gravy and stuffing. We couldn’t fault any of it. All freshly cooked and served. Family and dog friendly with a good mix of locals and new customers. We will definitely visit again.

Don't be fooled by the dog friendly tag on the board at the front. With the minimum of at least water for a dog unfortunately there is no sign of. Coupled with sharp flint on the floor means any dog not comfortable. Call me picky but Bank Holiday would see most of the pumps available. Sadly the opposite applies here. Most pumps have a sad glass covering them indicating "that ones off". Could be really nice with a little thought. Better pubs closer that are actually dog friendly & you stand a chance of actually drinking a beer that you want.
