We've been going to The Bolingbroke for many years now but generally for dinner. The last time we went, they were understaffed and the meal took really too long to be delivered. Last Friday, we popped in for lunch and it was great. The place was buzzing! The service was brilliant and the food was first class! We thoroughly enjoyed it and can't recommend it enough

We had lunch there last Saturday, in the shaded terrace. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful. I chose the “special”, monkfish in a Thai sauce, which was very plentiful and tasty. My husband had a meat pie which he enjoyed and our (adult) son had sausages and mash: he found there was not quite enough mash but he enjoyed it very much. We did not go inside and therefore cannot comment on that aspect. We all felt it was good value for money and intend to go again.

First meal out with our elderly friend since COVID, so were hoping this would feel a little bit special after such a long time forfeiting the nicer things in life. We always loved eating here in the past. However, sadly very disappointed with the service and the uninspiring sunday lunch. The three of us all ordered different meat; my chicken was so overcooked, so dry and rubbery, just not enjoyable and potatoes were ok. All our meals were luke warm. Another disappointment was that there was one small veg dish for the three of us. It was barely enough for one of us! I didn't like to ask if there was anymore coming as I didn't want to appear rude or cause any awkwardness. Also, the gravy tasted like bisto gravy - nothing wrong with that, but for the charge of the meals, I definitely expect more. I mentioned politely to the waiter who collected our meals and hoped he would have passed on to the Chef or owner that we were disappointed. We waited quite a long time to order desserts, but realised we could be waiting a very long time. It appeared that they had too little staff to cope with the amount of people they had booked in, so we decided to pay up and leave, which also added to the feeling of being let down by the service and quality we were used to previously here. On paying for the bill, the same gentleman took my payment and I was hoping that he may have got permission to atleast offer some sort of good will gesture upon paying. No such offer was given. I have to say, I will sadly not be eating here again on a Sunday and hope that the weekly food and service is better. It will be a long time until we frequent this place again .... if ever.

Lunch is lovely in the pretty garden. I had delicious soup and my husband one if their specialised sandwiches, was great, but evening meal was a bit of a disappointment. The inside was cold and uninviting, the staff were busy so a bit stressed. I had the lamb shank which was tasty but swimming in gravy and uninviting ditto my husbands liver. It was o.k. but we will not rush back.

We are regulars at the Bolingbroke and were really disapointed when the government ordered pubs and restaurants to close. We were really pleased to find oput though that the Bolingbroke are doing takeaway during this difficult time. We had the roast beef yesterday, which wa excellent, good protions and great quality. Tonight we have had the Fish Pie and that was just as good. We highly recommend you take advantage of this whilst we can.

Came here for the first time today after passing it many of times in the past. Both my sister and I ordered a sandwhich. I had bacon and camembert (this was in the speicals) and my sister had the steak, red onion and blue cheese. Both was amazed on how nice it was, so much flavour in both sandwhichs. Little pricey though bit don't mind paying the little extra for decent food. Deffiently coming back and brining more of the family with us.

Oh my, the cheesecake was amazing. It was a baileys and Oreo cheesecake. It was so creamy and was better than any other cheesecake I've had. Decent portions, very kind and friendly staff too. My wife and I went to the Bolingbroke to celebrate her birthday, and had a fabulous meal. We hadn't been here for quite a few years, but decided to give it a try, not that we'd ever had a problem before, it had just fallen off our radar. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised to find a great menu, excellent service and really good food. We had scallops and spring rolls for starters, and I had the pork medallions, my wife had the lamb shank, for mains. The food was really well presented, with no fuss about the service, just quick and efficient. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food was really enjoyable. We finished off by sharing a cheese board and coffees, a delightful end to a great evening. We would highly recommend the Bolingbroke, definitely worth a visit!

Visited with a friend who had been many times before during the summer, raving about its food so my expectations were high.Oh dear! I guess the moral of the story is not to visit if your not a Christmas party and hence a little bit jolly and not too fussed about the food you get. It's a nice place and the staff are nice. We arrived early and were pleasantly surprised that they took our order quickly and the starters came fast...not a good omen. The plates were stone cold and were just plonked down in front of us.My 3 lonely duck crispy rolls were lost on the plate, rolling around and in the middle some cucumber and onion was chucked in a pile with some dressing. We had steak for mains, which was fab, cooked perfectfully and came with Christmas veg and chips. All good here.Pudding was a disaster, we had the amaretto bread and butter pudding, it sounded yum. It was served in a bowl and was very pale yellow, no crispy top, no fruit and it was an extremely sloppy consistency. They tried to make it look nice by shaking chocolate powder over it though. We did think about sending it back but it tasted nice and was hot, although with hindsight now, we think it was just not cooked enough. Again hot pudding served on a stone cold plate! Being Christmas party time, I feel we suffered from the mass catering system...so we'll try again in the summer.Sorry Bolingbroke you need to take a look at the plates as they leave the kitchen and ask yourself would you like to be served that, even in busy times. There is no excuse, your customers are your advertising and it takes no time to ensure the plates are hot and nicely presented. My colleagues also said the portions were quite noticeably reduced too.

As a lone female travelling away from home with work I stay in many locations and sometimes dining in a pub style location can be intimidating but this was just heavenly! The atmosphere was lovely, surroundings beautiful and service excellent!Upon arrival a lady Called Jo met me and checked me into my room and carried my case to my room for for me despite me saying there was no need she was away with it and lead me to my roomThe room was simple, basic but clean and had everything I needed.I wanted to work at the dressing table so she immediately brought me a chair to replace the stool so would be more comfortable to sit and workI hadn't brought a hair dryer, upon enquiring when I went downstairs I was told they were not provided but they had one taken and left outside my room for me for when I returned from my meal. The food was amazing!Proper home cooked, lovely range of options and beyond tasty! Generous portions and the staff and service were excellentOnly little issues were it got a bit noisy about 6.30pm when the restaurant opened and I gave up trying to work at 7.30pm. But then this is a bar/ restaurant after all and rooms are above so what else can I expect? Bed time was lovely and peaceful, no exterior noise but the walls are thin. If like me you are unfortunate to have 2 men yapping all night in the room next door with the Tv on it does feel like it's a noisy place, but when they decided to pipe down it was totally silent and peacefulI will definitely use this place again to stay, rooms are basic, simple and clean and have all I needed for a night, and easy access to Swindon in the morningMi had a late deal in Expedia £65 with breakfast I am not complaining and for what I paid I was delightedIf your in the area I would recommend calling in for food it is divine!

There were 16 of us eating and the pub was already fairly busy, but the service meant that we still felt 'loved'. As it was a lovely evening, we took our drinks outside and per used the menus - the waitress came out to us and took our orders - this was a little onerous but well worth it as everyone ordered exactly what they wanted. We were seated in the restaurant which was lovely, and our meals arrived. All orders were correct and the food was simply lovely - I had the vegetable tarts with salad which was very tasty, followed by the meringue - which was huge. It was also the birthday of one of our group, and the pub didn't mind us taking a cake in to share either. We were served well throughout the evening - drinks, food, general queries, top ups etc.

The mains were excellent, good size portions, my colleague had the fish pie from the specials board, it would've fed 2 or 3 people along with the fresh veg! I had the bellypork from the specials board - that was superb & the crackling was just right. Another colleague had the steak pie but he was a little disappointed only due to the fact it didn't have a pastry base but it still tasted excellent. The puddings were to die for & are huge! We enjoyed it so much we came back the following night & only had a main each & shared a pudding.Would definitely come back if ever in the area again & would recommend to anyone.

Went for Sunday lunch - had previously booked as didn't want to take a chance on not getting served. On arrival there was one staff member serving behind the bar and seemingly 'checking in' those arriving to eat. There were a number of waiting staff standing by - not one of them asked if anyone was there for lunch or offered to take people to a table. We then had to wait nearly 30 minutes for someone to come and take our order - after asking a number of times - and the jug of water we asked for only arrived after a number of prompts. We were finally served our meals an hour and a quarter after arriving - it was nice but I am not sure worth the wait. The roast lamb was disappointing ( think pulled pork-esque!) and the roast potatoes were barely roasted - but the rest of the vegetables were lovely and the roast pork very generous serving. The vegetarian crepes were really good.

My partner and I have dined at this location several times and have done nothing other then rave about how good the service and food is. However after dining there yesterday with family, we will not be returning ever. I booked the tae 3 weeks in advance and they tried to squeeze is into a tight corner, we asked if we could be moved and this caused a stink, even though there was a table of 4 set for 2 people in a more adequate space. We then say for 20mins and had to go and place our drinks order. Another 30mims passed and we had to then go and find someone to take our food order. Starter turned up, cold garlic mushrooms, shrivelled up salad, and over cooked duck rolls. 30mims later out main turned up, over cooked salmon, cold beef and pork, cold stuffing, cold gravy and Yorkshire pudding. When they finally cleared out table, and I was asked if everything was ok with the food and I said "no not really" it was replied with by a shrug of the shoulders and no further acknowledgement. When we the. Went to pay our bill at the bar, £93.50, I explained to the young girl our disappointment and the reaction we had received from the floor staff, and again that was met with no real conviction, other than she would inform the management. I am sorry to say that this place has fallen through the floor, and as I said at the start, we have dined here several times before and never had a bad word to say about it. The fact the the service was shocking, the food was cold, and our complaints were shrugged off is not a good feeling. The Bolingbrook Arms Hotel!!Our party was 12 strong, one set of family (with a very small Infant) had travelled some considerable way, to surprise and delight me. I had extolled the virtues of our experiences and we were all excited about the Luncheon.I feel that my birthday was totally spoiled by a restaurant that had Badly overbooked, leaving us cramped and very uncomfortable!!!!!!!!!! The manager, when approached was totally arrogant and not CARING of our dilemma. The room was very crowded ' UNCOMFORTABLE very hot and very OVERBOOKED!! He was rude and whilst we understood that he was fully booked and busy, made NO ATTEMPT to placate anyone in the group!! My Sunday Roast special was very good beef and Yorkshire, although it was not hot enough, compared to the vegetables which were. The staff were very busy and it was not easy to raise the issue until too late when we were asked how it was and I told them. They offered no explanation or compensation. Given how busy it was, and we were glad we had a booking, this was not surprising. The puddings were expensive for what was a pub restaurant which is part of a small hotel facility ( eight bedrooms). My bakewell tart was ordinary and very small. We were in the bar where the atmosphere was pleasant although a little spoilt by noisy children. Our table was not relaxing as it was close to bar, till and door but that was our responsibility I admit. The main restaurant, which has the same menu, looked very pleasant.

Stayed one night at the hotel for business and was very happy with everything especially the price. Got the room for £50 and then had the option to have an evening meal for £10. When I arrived I asked about the £10 option and what was covered. There was a specials board with lot's of lovely meals and this had veal on the menu at about £16. I was told that there may be a couple of pounds to pay extra if I wanted that. I went for the Beef bourguignon in the end that was priced at £11.95, but it's still a few pounds off what I would expect to pay £15 for and was delicious. As for the the rest of the meals coming out of the kitchen that i observed, there was about a 30 min wait but everything that came out looked excellent and nobody left much that I saw, and having stopped in far too many hotels over 18 years I was more then happy to be here.As for the room that I stayed in, it was big enough and more than clean enough and as far as nice things go, the toilet roll was of top quality (no tracing paper for those that can remember). In the morning I was resolute that I would not pay £10 for breakfast no matter how good it is and no matter that the company I work for pay the bill, this is a big no for me. After enquiring about breakfast the owners ( I assume) said that they could do a small breakfast (1 sausage, 1 bacon, fried egg, toast) for £5 which is all I can face early in the morning anyway. It was perfect (except no beans) I did ask if this was possible and was very happy when this was done that made it perfect for me ( I know that baked beans is a Marmite moment for some people).Overall I will definetly stay here again.Ok, must say the the only down side was the smell of S**t from the surrounding fields but hey, it is in the country.Personally I think that if they made the breakfast about £7.95 as standard they would have more people taking this option.

We stayed at this Pub for the August bank holiday weekend, the food was good in the evening, the cooked breakfast was ok, not sure it was worth £10 though. As for the accommodation, not great unfortunately, the bed was really uncomfortable and lumpy pillows and my son had a Z bed in the room (very comfy) but this squeaked every time he moved, and he is a wriggler during the night, so not the best nights sleep. Very tired room, with just spending a small amount of money in the rooms I think it could be really good, carpets need changing in the hall ways as was very dirty looking (but probably more worn than anything), good size room though and we could have fitted a further Z bed in (this was the £60 room, not £50 - room 8).We found the owners and waitresses really nice and helpful though, so if the B&B was a bit better we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, not with the hard mattress and lumpy pillows though....

We turned up without booking on a Tuesday evening and were lucky to get a table. This is a very popular venue much used by the locals. The restaurant has a very nice ambience and the service is excellent. Had the scallops and crispy Parma ham to start and the scallops were do e to perfection. The slow cooked belly pork was naughty and melted in the mouth. The meals are large so there was no opportunity to have a desert as we were all too full. Definitely one to put on your visit list but perhaps book before visiting

We had 7 people including one child age 5. The menu was varied and everyone found something they liked. They offered a small version of the mains for kids or they could choose fish fingers/ chicken dippers etc so that was very flexible. Service was great and the food was lovely. Recommendations for puds are the lemon posset (like creamy lemon curd) and the cheesboard.

Overall disappointed as was looking forward to enjoying our evening - this spoilt it!!

Went here on Saturday evening and as you would expect service a little slow as they were very busy and there are quite a few covers. In the main the food was good, My brother and I had the beer braised steak and my mother had the lamb shank, all extremely good. However my wife had the garden vegetable tartlets which seemed to consist of onions and peppers !The main issue however was that the white wine was not chilled. Why does such a popular place as this where the food is very good let itself down by ignoring one of the basic principles of serving wine. Maybe Swindonians like their white wine warm.

We have eaten here many times. The menu is extensive and all home made and local produce. Always hot, plentyful and great service cannot fault. Also stayed over night. The rooms are warm cosy with plenty of tea and coffee making facilities.

I have recently started to come here as its just up the road from me. My partner and I both agree that its a nice quaint place for lunch. We have both tried different dishes from the menu and the specials list. The lamb shank is just scrummy, and home made soups very tasty. Amply parking avail. Thank you guysDawn n KevX

Great place at lunchtime or evening but would advise people to eat in the bar which is nicely appointed and decorated and has a fire, whereas the restaurant area lacks both character and atmosphere.

i went again to my favourite local restuarant last tuesday18th Sept for lunch with my sister who was visiting from France, i have to say the service was very dissappointing from the off !we had to find our own seats, return to the bar to get menus, and had to stop the young waitress in order to get our order written down. she seemed pre-occupied cleaning tables. the food was duly delivered and was ok, nothing special for a lunch time service, we then had to go to the bar to order more drinks and by the end of the meal felt totally abandoned by the tow members of staff on duty. when we cam to pay for the meal, we were overcharged for drinks we had already paid for, and instead of an apology we got a disgruntled " you sure" you paid? i have to say it was slightly shocking and has left me thinking shall i bother again? probably not, its been several years since the resturant has changed its menu and it definately needs to train its staff in custmoer service. poor poor show Bolingbroke.

My wife and I both decided to make a return visit for a meal after a previous nice experience. This time we dined as a party of 6. Out of the 2 starters and 6 mains only the duck pancake starter failed to hit good reports. The pork in bourbon (x2) seemed to hit 7.5 - 8 out of 10, the lamb was a 8 - 8.5 and the smoked haddock (x2) came top at 8.5 - 9 out of 10. The accompanying veg were nice although they were the same veg as one year ago. The staff were all very pleasant and all carried out their tasks with a smile. There was a small issue when the main meals arrived between our table and an adjacent table but the issue was resolved with minimum fuss and as professionally as could have been expected which I thought was a credit to the waitresses and the kitchen staff. All in all a good experience with nice food and above average service. We intend to return soon!

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
