Visited for the first time on Sunday 18th August. They forgot part of my order and made no attempt too tell me or rectify it. Waited 40mins before asking for a refund for the dessert they forgot about. It is now Wednesday 21st and it surprise surprise they have forgotten my refund. Awful service from start to finish. I have contacted my bank to raise a fraud alert. I will certainly not be coming back again. Never received my refund. Liars and thieves. Do not trust these criminals. The manager bare faced lied straight to my face about the refund. I should have asked for a receipt. They don’t answer any emails. I will need to door step them for my money back

A real treasure to find. A beautiful location at the marina by the canal. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The double room with en suite was large, comfortable, clean and homely, very quiet with a lovely view over the marina. Loved the nautical theme right down to the wallpaper! :) Dinner and breakfast were excellent.. we had the steak frites for dinner, which was the smaller steak portion on the menu and just enough for us after a long day travelling, and the breakfast was the best that we’ve had in a hotel for a long time. Prices were reasonable and the restaurant was relaxing with views of the marina. We would definitely stay again!

I didn't stay, I went to the restaurant for brunch. The food was lovely, I had the schnitzel, it wasn't amazing but it was a sizable portion. The service was lovely. My main issue is the lack of gluten free options and lack of clarity on it. Staff were doing their best but having only ice-cream as a gluten free dessert was disappointing.

Met with friends for coffee and cake, which was lovely. Only downside was a few dogs inside that were off lead, and approached us quite a few times, and we're barking at other dogs in the place. One of our group is extremely frightened of dogs, so this was stressful. As a dog owner myself, I'm fine with them - but if I take them into places, they are always on lead.

Decent rooms and nice location but service is fabulous. Young lady called Cassandra was the superstar of the show at this place during our visit…..difficult to tell exactly what her role is as one minute she was at reception at check in, next showing us around our rooms, bar tendering , waiting on restaurant tables and even cooked us some fries after the cook had finished shift. Fabulous atmosphere!

Can't comment on rooms as only used the restaurant. A beautiful location and setting, and it's my friends safe, comfy and favourite place and she loves the staff who look after her. However, for what we ate and drank for lunch was way over priced. I've never paid £3.10 for a pint of soda and lime cordial before unless in a swanky bar in London, it's usually £1/1.50 is standard. We had Caesar salads and this consisted of some chopped lettuce, 2 thin slices of cucumber, 3 croutons and 1 cherry tomato cut in half and little dressing. We added the chicken for £2.95 each but there wasn't a lot and it was pale and unappealing, £15.45 each for the salad. A portion of skinny fries each was £3.25. They thankfully didn't charge for the hot water and lemon. The total bill was over £40 - very overpriced for food that was underwhelming. I can't fault the staff, they were lovely but I didn't want to say anything in front of my friend. If I can make a suggestion, please review the price or the portions and quality. This could be a really great place to have lunch but next time I think I will stick to drinks only. In comparison this evening my husband and I stopped off on the A1 at a random service area and paid £32 for an exceptionally enjoyable burger with all the trimmings, steak and ale pie, a pot of tea and a pint of orange juice and lemonade (this drink was half the price of the soda and lime too).

I am really sad to see this place has gone down hill so quickly. I was here 11 months ago and had a lovely time, tonight was such a disappointment. Food came cold and was microwaved and handed back, staff didn't seem to take a pride in their work. We were not alone in handing back our food. Even when pointing out that food was below expected standard, no offer of reduction in bill. Not happy at all.

Wow, where do I start with this review. First of all the chief should be sacked instantly!! The food was dreadfully, and to be honest I can normally eat anything. Food was cold, and I mean cold !! The service was acceptable my the young guy, the other girl behind the bar is so lazy and did nothing to try and help out. Took over 2 Hours, to get a plate of chips and two drinks !! Food was sent back only to be heated in a microwave, chips were uncooked and limp. Whoever owns this business needs to act quickly, just read the reviews everyone's saying the same. Your chief and I use that term lightly, has obviously no pride in his work. The worse food I've seen, and other tables were also putting food back also. It's a real shame because it could be a nice place.

Had our first dinner at the Boathouse since the change over. I had looked at the menus before booking and really fancied the market menu as it offered a something a bit different. When we arrived we were only given the normal main menu but I asked if the market menu was available and the waitress happily brought it over. The jackfruit starter was delicious. I’d never tasted it before but the Asian style of flavours used in the cooking were great. Both myself and husband had the sea bass along with 2 extra sides. If you have a good appetite I’d recommend getting an additional side (unless you want room for desert.) We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back.

The refurbished restaurant is great. Our second visit in 2 days. This time we came with friends for dinner. Good choice but the menu food was more pub style than fancy restaurant. For a Saturday night the place was quite quiet. We all managed to find items we liked in the menu. The service (Kenny) was professional and friendly. Food was delivered promptly and was excellent quality eg the rare steak was rare. Flavours were first class. The men had a beer as starter and this was excellent. The negative points - it would be nice to have some variation in the menu eg a daily special. The wine list was very short and not of highest quality - a better wine list for those interested would raise the tone somewhat. The Rioja we had was OK but we would have preferred something of higher quality, and of course higher price. There was a limited range of brandie eg one cognac and no Calvados. We enjoyed our experience and will be back but it is a pity that thenew management are not attempting to raise the range and quality of their offerings.

The food was well presented and tasty. The service was a bit slow at times as the poor young waiter seemed to be mainly on his own serving quite a few tables. But he was well trained and polite. The bar woman, though seemed to be oblivious to the amount of noise she makes - disposing of the bottles noisily and grinding endless ice for cocktails. We had arrived appreciating that the music was at a nice low level so that we could talk to each other easily, but after five minutes the music was increased considerably making it rather difficult for us to hear our waiter. Also, the day before our meal I did go in and book a specific table in a quiet corner as my father is a bit deaf and also in a wheelchair so we wanted easy access to the toilet. The manager Russell, specifically put it into the computer table plan in front of me and promised it wouldn't be changed. When we arrived for the meal, we had been moved round the corner into a busier area, because a birthday party had been put in our spot. Now, I did query it, but as my parents were with me i did not want to make a fuss in front of them and spoil the evening, The new table was equally nice and by a big window overlooking the canal as I had wanted, but it was noisier and did affect the evening's pleasure. Other than that, it was nice evening. Would love to go there again when it's warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views of the hills and canal.

Living near by walking/cycling along the Forth and Clyde canal to the Boathouse is a luxury especially on a nice day. We visited on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and were all looking forward to a light lunch after our walk. We found a table outside which was well suited as we had a dog with us and asked the waiter for some menus which he provided. After making our choices we went inside to order to be told that they were not serving hot food outside and that all tables inside were fully booked (bearing in mind there were only about 4 tables inside occupied). We then asked if we could have cold sandwiches or other cold items outside to be told that no food apart from ice cream was allowed outside. We decided to order drinks as we had to prepare for the walk home and when the same waiter came out with them we asked why he had given us menus in the first place if we couldn't have food and he said to us he thought we just wanted to have a look and that the reason for food not being available was due to fridges in the kitchen being broken. How they were still managing to serve food inside then if they had to chilled storage for the food was beyond me. The staff seemed under trained and unable to cope.

One of the great pleasures over the past few years has been cycling 20+ kilometres along the canal on a sunny day, having lunch at the Boathouse, and then cycling home. Imagine my disappointment today when we were turned away because they no longer take "walk-ins". In the time it took us to lock our bikes, be turned away, and unlock our bikes again six separate parties of people were turned away FROM A COMPLETELY EMPTY RESTAURANT! This shows complete disdain from the management towards regular casual customers. We won't be back, and I can only assume the restaurant will suffer a slow, quite, lingering death if it continues to turn customers away.

After a walk along the canal we took the kids in to get some breakfast. Although the breakfast was delicious the timing wasn't great there were only 2 other tables in and yet we had to wait for ages to get our meal, which meant we had to rush to eat it. I thought with it being under new management they would have reviewed the pricing but it is still very expensive and I don't necessarily think the food justify s the price.

The Boathouse used to be a great restaurant, with fabulous location, good food and good service, although was definitely not the cheapest in the area. Over time the food and service deteriorated and the prices stayed high. It wasn't surprising when it closed. So when it reopened, we hoped that it would be back to its original form and booked a table for the first weekend. The place hasn't changed at all inside. The menu has and I love my food but really struggled to find anything I wanted to eat on it. The service was fine at first but once we had placed our order, it wasn't the best. Wine glasses were brought to the table but the waitress forgot the wine. I tried to catch her eye but she was too busy chatting so I eventually got out of my seat and went over. I said we were still waiting for our wine and go a What? in return. I asked three times until she understood what I was saying and said she had forgotten. The food itself wasn't great and was poorly presented and we thought the bill was very expensive for what it was. We then struggled to get a taxi and the Manager asked us to leave so he could lock up. When we said we were struggling to get a taxi he said "yes that's what happens around here". All in all it was a disappointing evening. I wouldn't say we will never go back as we do like the location but there are better and much more reasonable places to eat in the vicinity so our return will more likely be a beer in the sun than dinner.

Nice and comfortable setting. The Scottish breakfast with haggis (not for the faint-hearted they say) is great. The posh breakfast looks quite small and can only be recommended if you are not very hungry. I personally think that the music is too loud and too fast. The selection of pop, jazz, soul and rock music may be fine under other circumstances, but it just doesn’t go with the nice scenery and the calm canal. Do we really need music for breakfast?. On some days, they unmute the TV, which is not better. Staff is friendly and helpful. Juice for breakfast is not on the menu but is offered on demand.

Was out for a late lunch / early dinner, nice surroundings, polite enough staff. Ordered the fish pie from the main menu, food arrived, looked good. Now I’m no chef but I’m sure if you are making a fish pie, with prawns you would remove the tails. Well to my surprise tails still on them all. With every mouthful you have to remove the tails with your fingers, then found a black hair in the dish. I questioned one of the staff if this was how the fish pie was normally served, she couldn’t give me an answer, but assured me she would speak to the chef. We waited, no response, asked another member of staff when they presented the full bill. We waited until a senior member of staff came to the table with a reduced bill, less my fish pie cost, I questioned her about the meal, was informed it was a mistake. Disappointed that I had to push this myself and that the customer service wasn’t what I had experienced on previous visits.

The Boat House is situated on the banks of the canal and is an easy commute from the motorway or Kilsyth nearby. Even on a cold, damp November day, the setting was pretty and the welcome warm. There is plenty of car parking space and some disable parking spaces too. The interior is bright, spacious and well decorated. There were 3 of us in our party and we visited at lunch time. It was fairly quiet, but we wouldn't expect it to be full to capacity on such a day. I imagine that during the nice Summer days it is busy both inside and out. Our waitress was very prompt with Menus which had plenty of choice for lunch. Our drinks orders were taken right away and then our food order, but we were not rushed. Our orders comprised small soup which on that day was Tomato and a small scampi and chips; a burger with haggis and a burger with bacon and cheese. The small or mini portion option was greatly appreciated by the 82 year old in the party as they were just adequate for her. The scampi was fresh and of a decent size and there was plenty of chips and peas to accompany them. The soup was fresh and just like home made. The burger presentation is rather awkward as they are served a narrow slate with the chips in a small wire basket also on it. The chips were crisp and tasty but a normal plate would be far better as this just seems like pretentious presentation just for the sake of it that does not add to the dining experience (indeed it makes it a much more messy affair). The burger with haggis was stacked high and was declared to be exceptionally tasty. It was accompanied by a separate jug of whiskey sauce and once the sauce had been used for the burger, the remainder of it was used for the purpose of "dunking" chips. A delicious use of the remaining sauce and it was agreed that a bath of it would not be too much! The other burger was equally as tasty and the plates were all cleared. Soft drinks and tea completed the order and lunch was enjoyed by all. We would visit again and would recommend it to others.

We visit The Boat House regularly and always enjoy reasonable food. It’s not overpriced and in decent weather sitting outside on the decking is excellent.

We visited as we received a birthday gift of a complimentary bottle of wine. As I was driving, I asked if I could take it home and received confirmation. My meal was served nice and hot and good sized portion. A comprehensive gluten free menu and I was impressed. The restaurant temperature could have been warmer. Free car park. Views across the marina and nice walks available on Forth & Clyde canal tow path or across fields. Loyalty card available.

Stopped for breakfast, at the Boathouse Restaurant, just after the start of the Antonine Wall Half Marathon. This restaurant is situated nicely on the banks of the Auchinstarry Marina. The food and the view were both impressive.

I've visited The Boathouse several times over a few years and have never been disappointed. The location is impressive and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food isn't sensational, but has always been well cooked and presented, if a bit pricey. The menu had changed on my recent visit - both in appearance and content. The previous version may well have been a bit "fussy", but it was original, and made a good first impression. The laminated card may now be easier to read and cheaper to maintain, and it perhaps is intended to suggest more affordable "pub grub", but it's a pity it now identifies with the lowest common denominator. The prices are still high and the food is still nice, but the choices are not so appealing. That won't stop me returning, though.

I've been here a few times before, and usually been sorely disappointed by the food, but its a in great location and has a nice interior. We visited for a coffee and some soup, thinking we couldn't really go wrong with that; we were wrong. I can't imagine anyone had tasted the soup when they were making it. We tried to finish it out of politeness, but it was impossible.

Been eating out at this restaurant since it opened 10 years back. Never a bad meal or poor service. Sits right next to the marina which is fairly quiet and calm. Beds available at very reasonable rates and my daughter has used this when visiting us. Food is typically Scottish themed and both delicious and plentiful. Cullen skink is my favourite starter but there are loads of tasty options to choose from the menu including rather appetising vegetarian options across starters and mains. If you still have room, then the sweets tempt you in too! Very relaxed atmosphere and attentive service without being overly intrusive. 10 out of 10 from me!

We don't go here very often but when we do used to really enjoy it. We visited on Sunday evening. Place didn't seem as busy as usual. The menu has been changed to a one page cardboard menu. Now giving it a very pub menu feeling. But prices have stayed at restaurant level! The presentation dishes have changed too not for better. More suited to a Mexican or tapas restaurant. I had tempura prawns to start at £7.95 for this I got 5 pieces of what looked like small scampi with the chilli sauce drizzled across. Usually it was the long prawn fingers in a tempura batter with sauce in dish at the side. This seemed more scampi batter. And for those of us who don't like a lot of the chilli sauce, covering the food in it doesn't give you an option of how much you want! I then had wild mushroom and pea risotto. It was OK as risottos go but I struggled to find any peas! Sadly food isn't great, it is more pub food and far too expensive for what it is. Plus a lot of the dishes we used to enjoy have gone. Why?? It's a great location and staff are friendly enough. The menu seriously has to be looked at again. Not sure now that we'd be back what used to be a nice treat doesn't seem the same anymore which is a pity.

I just happened across the restaurant this afternoon when my wife and I traveled from Dumbarton to Auchinstarry to visit The Port Gallery. By the time we conducted our business and walked around the marina, we decided to have some food. My wife had the smaller portion of fish and chips and advised that it was excellent. The batter on the fish was tasty and crispy!! I wasn’t too hungry so chose the hot Brie and bacon panini with salad, coleslaw and a side of skinny fries. The Brie was really tasty and went extremely well with the smoked bacon. Although it was billed as a ‘light bite’, it was a lot of food (not a criticism!). Another plus was the fact that they sell a number of low alcohol/alcohol free lagers which is, in my opinion, highly unusual. I may well decide to eat here when I return to collect my framed picture next week!!

Night out catching up with friends. I had the steak pie. It was ok, but the pastry was cold, and they covered it with gravy to heat it up, but that didn't work. Big portions can't complain about that. Overall, I enjoyed the night.
