After a longer than anticipated walk what a fantasic surprise that the Boathouse was still open and serving. A cheery welcome and some excellent cake. The lemon polenta cake was divine! All delivered to the outside tables. Fantasic food and views whilst we rested our tired legs. We even managed to purchase a loaf of their homemade bread.

Popped into the Boathouse for a cup of tea yesterday after a walk around Ulva. There was a good selection of home-made cakes which all looked delicious and I was delighted that there was a gluten free option (lemon and almond polenta cake) which was superb. Friendly service and a great outlook over the water to Mull.

Would highly recommend the fisherman's catch, oysters, smoked salmon, potted crab, langoustines, smoked mackerel pate accompanied by home made bread and oatcakes. Limited choice for those who don't eat fish/seafood but soup and roll combi went down well too. Tomato and red pepper soup plus ham and mustard roll which was a little light on the mustard. The only negative, I am reliably informed by my wife, was the state of the ladies' loo, disgusting apparently.

We could easily have spent a day on the island. Access is easy via the ferry. The café is very good with good coffee but the homemade cake I had was disappointingly dry. The island has lots of good information and plenty of interesting walks. We visited the church before running out of time. We fully support what the community are seeking to achieve, and this was fully explained during a Radio Four feature a couple of weeks before our visit. Rough roads mean walking boots are best.
