Me, my pal and his lovely dog were mid way through the Newburn to Wylam loop and popped in for a quick beer. It had been raining hard and we deserved a pint. My mate stayed outside with the hound - although I believe hounds are welcome inside - and I went if for the drinks. The lass behind the bar was very friendly and got me a dog bowl and water no problem at all. Very kind of her. I got a pint of IPA and I got my mate a pint of draft cider. The drinks came to a ridiculous £7.50. I say ridiculous as I live in London and it’s almost £7 a pint round my ends. Practically giving it away up here :-). To top it off, they take AMEX too. Happy Avios days!! I’d like to have a few pints there maybe next summer. Perfect in the summer with the ample outdoor seating.

Just one quick question before I start my review: is it a Toasty or a Toastie or conversely, should I just get a life and stop writing these reviews and worrying about life's semantics?I dropped into the Boathouse after completing my days work early for a late lunch and as it was somewhere between dinner and tea, decided to go light for once. The Cheese and Onion Toasty was thick as a door wedge and jam packed with the finest Cheddar and crispy onions. They serve a great range of locally brewed beers and I washed the toastie down with a pint of Hadrian Border brewery's Secret Kingdom which proved to be a synthesis of Dairy, Malty Goodness.Next time I'll try one of their numerous Thai offerings.

We, my wife & I, daughter & partner, called in for drinks late afternoon. So this is only based on a brief visit as I wanted to specifically visit the pub. Classic real ale pub. Laid back, unpretentious and welcoming. A tad drab. Approx 12 ales on offer. As many have commented, no Wylam Brewery beers which was disappointing. That said when I asked the young barman for a specific style of ale, his suggestion proved perfect.Whilst the pub has won many awards, they are not as recent as one may be led to believe.Handy for the railway station.

I arranged to have a drink with an old friend and discuss some business with him at The Boathouse, Wylam. Having read some very mixed reports about this place recently and not having been there for a little while,i looked forward to the occasion. The usual array of real ales were on offer, although it was disappointing not to see the local brewery represented, however we both had an excellent pint and a few crisps. The staff were friendly and although it was a lovely night, we chose to sit indoors, rather than the ample garden outdoors. My friend had his dog with him and that too was made very welcome. We sat for a couple of hours, without any disruption or hassle, and then left. Although we did not have any food, the food being brought out for other customers looked sizable portions.

As a main stop off for the real ale train line trips, this pub has always been a favourite indeed it is the same for cyclists and walkers. Always a large selection of beer (although noticeably nothing from the local Wylam brewery) and a great outside seating area for those long sunny afternoons. But the character has gone, the photos blue tacked to the wall of the locals with their dogs, it's become a beer serving conveyor belt and there looks to be little thought as to how they pick their beer for sale. Yes you will find a beer you like and chances are you will soon be making friends with others that you meet there, but I doubt they will be with regulars, only others like you, just passing through.

We popped in here after visiting Newcastle, we just hopped off the train straight into the pub where we were met with an array of real ales. What to choose? I went for a White Lady (after a sample taste) and my husband chose the Black Bob, which was so smooth it slipped down without even noticing. I plumped for this as well for my 2nd pint and I wasn't disappointed. We stopped in to The Boathouse after a walk along the River Tyne. Located right next to Wylam train station, it's in a great location for anyone coming from Newcastle or near-by, via train. The pub itself is split into two halves, an adult-only half, and a family friendly half. We were in there for the rugby world-cup, and both sides had TVs playing the match, but it doesn't seem like a sports pub (which is nice). The range of beers is really impressive, loads of lagers and ales on draft, far more than you usually find. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of food though - being a Sunday afternoon (5pm), I guess this is reasonable, but I expected them to be serving a roast or something, but all they had were cheese toasties. The decor is a little dilapidated, and the place could use a lick of paint, but apart from that, a nice place to grab a pint.

After walking all day (Hadrian's Wall) and checking into our B&B, we were looking for a pub that sold decent ale along with a bite to eat. The Boathouse was a 5-minute walk away, and was heartily recommended by someone we encountered earlier in the day. They were only serving pie and peas in the way of food, but given that we had eaten lunch rather late, this suited us down to the ground. The bar staff and customers were as friendly as you could wish, and the real ales were there in abundance (12 hand pumps). We ended up sticking with an excellent local brew called Tyneside Blonde, the brewer of which was ensconced at the opposite end of the bar. A great evening in a friendly local boozer with wonderful ales (CAMRA NE award winner).

Parodying the old Carlsberg ad there are many pubs around the country purporting to be "Probably the best pub in ....."! Of course this is done tongue-in-cheek but in the case of The Boathouse it's not far off the truth.Fifteen hand pulls run the length of the bar offering real ales and ciders from mostly the North of England and Scotland although one can occassionally find a southern intruder amongst the ranks. At under £3 a pint and with one brew being a "special" at the give-away price of £2.30/pint a visit here is as kind on the pocket as it is on the palette.None of this gastro-pub nonsense either, if you want to soak up the booze it's sarnies, pies, pickled eggs or crisps. It's a good old-fashioned boozer full of character and good cheer.Probably the best pub in Northumbria!

That was it as far as a hot food offering, no menu was visible, this was midweek mid afternoon, so could have been between servings, as I know they do a good Sunday roast. Pub decorated nicely for Halloween and a good selection of beers as well as a decent cider 🌞 (Can’t always get a nice cider so this was greatly appreciated!) We booked a table for dinner and were allowed to stay in our campervan overnight in their car park. The food was delicious and our server (Sam) was very attentive and friendly. We then stayed for the regular Monday night quiz. We were terrible at it (ha ha!) but it was really good fun with plenty of local banter going on. Would highly recommend!

We were in Rothbury to have the Sunday Carvery ,which was excellent! (Will definitely come back).and also to suss out places to have an alcoholic drink in the evening. We had already found where to have a coffee and scone the day before. My husband and myself were staying in Amble for a weeks holiday. Myself and eight friends are staying in Rothbury the beginning of September. The ambience and staff were fantastic in the Newcastle House Hotel.Thank you to Kelly for all the information regarding my return visit in September.Very much appreciated.
