Black Bull in Northumberland

It was my first time here. The service was ok, but the food was not great: my rum caramelised pork belly was way overcooked, burned. Apple tart was undercooked and cold. Other had burgers (cheese was burned), mixed grill meat was dry and overcooked.

Yummy food, lovely service. Thank you!

We had a lovely meal here. Nice warm and welcoming pub. Food was great and service exceptional...we were waited on by Ellie who made sure everything, including allergies, was just right. We had lunch here today and the food was amazing. Two of us had the pork belly with buttery mash and hispi cabbage, the cabbage was DELICIOUS, seriously it was so good I had to ask the waitress to find out from the chef what made it so special, how they'd cooked it. They were very obliging. We cleared our plates! Mind you just that course was 1700+ calories so that should probably be me done for the day...

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Black Bull this evening. The place was busy but Blake welcomed us upon arrival ( without a booking) and took us immediately to an available corner table. I had the chicken strips with BBQ sauce for a starter which were absolutely excellent. Our mains of steak and ale pie and gammon steak were equally delicious, hot and plentiful. We even had time for sweet. Beautiful. I have to say the staff were excellent courteous and attentive, Blake in particular. He checked everything was ok and we could hear him chatting to all the tables around us make sure everything was ok for them and that the diners were happy. He really should be praised. He made our visit a memorable one and we shall certainly return. We recently visited The Ravensworth Arms in Lamesley. Owned by same chain Green King /chef & brewer, and the very same menu but certainly the food was not the same… we returned ours, it was cold and certainly not as nice even the replacement. The Ravensworth could learn a lot from visiting The Black Bull. Well done BB team. See you again soon.

Amazing Lamb Shank Shepherd's Pie.

Having heard good things from others...finally tried out the breakfast menu (available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings) and was not disappointed. An excellent and ample piping hot full breakfast for me and Smashed Avocado on Toast for my mid-morning partner in dine. All very good value topped off with the usual friendly Black Bull Corbridge service.

Friendly service and tasty food. I ordered the chickpea coronation sandwich as one of the few vegan mains and although I wasn’t that excited by the idea it was delicious! I great take on a classic and it was full of flavour. A bargain at half the price of other mains and I added a chocolate stout to make up for it! Note: beware of the salt shaker… it comes flying out.

Local pub with a good menu. Inside distinct areas for food and general socialising. Great atmosphere, well staffed and cosy.

Blake, Conor and Michael really make this amazing pub in Corbridge. We called for my birthday meal and were very impressed. Food was lovely, service amazing. We will definitely be back

On holiday in Northumberland and visited Corbridge as we love all the independent shops. Popped into the Black Bull for lunch as we wanted somewhere dog friendly as we had our 5 month old pup with us. We are so glad we did as the food was delicious, the service was excellent and the staff were all very attentive and friendly. We will definitely go there to eat again the next time we are in the area as the pub has a fabulous atmosphere. We have to say the staff really do look after their customers.

'It's OK' sums it up. Not sure of it's no.1 ranking on trip advisor. I had 'hand battered' cod and chips with mushy peas and chips. Chips were nice, crisp and hot Peas had a dry skin on the top Fish was OK in size but quite watery abd am not convinced it had been freshly dipped in batter as you picture when ordering. I also paid extra for scampi abd 'bloomer' bread and butter. 4 pieces of scampi. They were nice. Bread appeared to shop bought sliced white loaf. However it was dry, that grayish colour of a few days old loaf, and had no butter. I asked for butter, which was delivered rock hard, so tore the bread to pieces. I know that chain pubs get all their food delivered in freezer trucks, but there are a few little efforts that can be made to show the chef actually cares about making it look freshly made

The food here was s first class. Parking can be a challenge!

In my opinion, the BEST pub in wooler. A proper welcoming/friendly atmosphere. It's the kind of place that makes you want to sit all day... and we did!

We went here last minute on our way to an event recently. As we were in a rush to get to the event, we asked what the waiting time was on food. The woman told us there was likely a 40 minute wait. However, we decided to risk it. They then went above and beyond to make sure we got our food in time! The service was absolutely incredible, and the food was amazing. It’s a really cosy country pub, a lovely place to go on a winter’s night. If you’re in Corbridge, I’d highly recommend going here.

Superb fish and chips and mulled wine. Quick and friendly service. Highly recommended after and nice walk on Hadriens wall.

The black bull is my favourite pub for food the food is literally unbelievable the staff & service is always good. We visited today as a family the steak & ale pie was amazing. My only issue was the female toilets they were all blocked & when I mentioned it to the staff they didn't seem to know. So we had a bit of a wait to use the disabled toilet.

Me and my boyfriend decided on a little dinner date over at corbridge and we booked in here. The interior was really nice and cosy with comfortable booths with cushions. The staff were lovely and took our order quickly. The menu was quite big and there was a range of prices however it was mostly between £13-£20 which was reasonable for the portion sizes we received. We paid in total £45 for the two meals and two drinks. Seems like it could get busy quickly so I would advise to book in advance.

Really nice Sunday lunch, service was good, staff were friendly and very helpful. The pub itself had a nice atmosphere it was relaxing had traditional furnishing and log burning fires. We had beef on the bone and a beautiful desert to follow, wine and beer and all at a very competitive prices. Definitely recommend

Booked a family meal for xmas day as we had been there before was really looking forward to this. the table was booked for 16.00 i ordered prawn cocktail with warm smoked salmon , steak medium and cheese board. my prawn cocktail arrives on a plate which consisted of 2 prawns with the tails on (chewy) with a teaspoon on sauce on each and two pieces inch square salmon covered on a load of green salad (disappointed) steak being medium was chewy, the lovely gentleman serving us asked if we would like a breather before desert which we agreed to, after about 10 minutes asked if we were ready which we were desert arrived cheese board cannot be ate in a hurry, the young lady kept coming to the table to see if we were finished, in the end i put down my knife she come straight over to ask if we were finished which i said well it looks like we have to be and the plates were taken away. i suggest if your staff want to get away you do not have a 4pm serving

Usually the staff are helpful and the service prompt. However today’s experience has put us off coming back. We are still waiting for our food after over an hour and 15 minutes. A simple family lunch on a slow Friday afternoon. It is not complicated. Very disappointing

Went for Sunday dinner and it didn't disappoint. The meat and veg were spot on. The only issue was the kids pizza which isn't the best quality. Abit like the Chicago town pizzas you can get. The butternut soup was amazing aswell

I called in a week ago with a couple of friends, and the food was that good, I came back on Friday with my wife, and the food, service, and atmosphere were just as good. Would highly recommend, and we'll be back 👍

We went at about 5 on a Saturday for an early dinner after a walk. We’d been there once or twice before but not for a long time. The bar was full with a lovely warm lively atmosphere. Our four different meal choices were all delicious, the waiters were excellent and altogether it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Fast service, amazing food and amazing staff

We were so sadly disappointed after looking forward to trying this nice looking pub for lunch, the food could of been better presented, the food was cold, gravy on the roast meal was thin and not much of it, cabbage raw and potatoes not roasted, the yorkshire pud not fully cooked inside, beef was cold and overcooked, the squid was overcooked and stringy, served on a huge plate with a large dish of garlic mayo and wilted rocket, really disappointed with the whole meal. Staff seemed harassed and one got the feeling that it was serve and hope diners would make room for others waiting, patrons are easily pleased if they deem to return.

Local típico, muy agradable. Mucha gente local, lo cual siempre es un buen síntoma. Muy buena atención, con personal muy comprensivo con nuestro pobre nivel de inglés. Comida muy rica: verdura a la parrilla exquisita y pie de carne igual de bueno. Parada indudable en el camino del Muro de Adriano si paras en Corbridge

Went for early dinner both had steak and ale pie.Pie looked large when it came but when you cut into it there was only 3 pieces of meat of which were chewy. When the bar man came over to ask if everything was alright we told him about the pies and he asked if he would like the pies replacing told him I didn't see the point if the 2 pies we already had where empty Don't think we will be going back very disappointed!

Really sorry to be going against the general reviews but my latest experience was very disappointing which is a shame as previous visits have been good. Six of us booked for Sunday lunch (October 2024) and arrived on time and were shown directly to our table and provided with menues. We had to request aftet15+ minutes to place our order which then took 45min to be served. The Sunday lunch was on this occasion presented in a sloppy way, meat tough and fatty, veg luke warm and small in portion size considering the cost, and Yorkshire puddings rubbery. It felt like the the food and been cooked and sat under heat lamps for a long time and wasn't really enjoyable. The gravy offered to the table was not enough for 2 let alone 6, however this was rectified once we asked for more as were the condiments. Some of the party ordered the same option only for the plates to be different is quantity of food - one plate had 1 x parsnip while another had 3, 1 plate had no '"pigs in blanket" while another had 2, one plate 2 roast potatoes another 4. Overall a disappointing visit this time around although I'm sure I will go again, but maybe not for Sunday lunch - it felt like they were overstretched and the quality suffered

Party of 4 adults, Sunday lunch, October 13th. We all agreed that this was the worse Sunday lunch we had had. 1, beef, 1 trio of meats and 2 Pork. The meat was tough, 3 tiny hard roast potatoes, a teaspoon size portion of mashed swede and under cooked cabbage..not al dented, undercooked. As we all had a small amount of gravy we asked if we could have extra gravy..we received half a gravy boat between the 4 of us. Even the Yorkshire puds were tough. On the plus the service was very good but will definitely not be back 4, Sunday lunches, 2 deserts and 4 drinks £120.00. I left feeling as though I had been mugged!!

A lovely pub. The food was great (chips weren’t quite to our liking, but nothing to complain about), and the service couldn’t have been better.

Beautiful pub, very welcoming staff.

- food wasn’t very exciting. Pie was undercooked and vegetables were hard. Chicken burger was tasteless and messy. - slow and confused service- people kept forgetting our order and then the card machine broke so we had to wait around to pay. - people in the restaurant were constantly complaining. It was too dark and then too bright. Passive aggressive comments from the waiter about other staff members and also our choices of order. This place is nothing like it used to be!

Place was nice and staff were friendly but food was very disappointing weatherspoons standard frozen fair which I don't have a problem with at spoons but not what I expected from a country pub.

Sorry for previous review, wrong establishment. This black bull is in a delightful little village we just so happened to pass through. Staff were friendly and very welcoming. We were seated promptly. The squid starter was absolutely amazing!! And the garlic mayo dip was extremely tasty. Tyhe pub was very traditional and very busy, but food was still served quickly. Would definitely recommend to anyone passing by the area!!!

Gorgeous cooked breakfast. I had the veggie option ( sausages/patties were fabulous) , husband had the meaty option. Both were delicious. Staff were pleasant and attentive, food was hot and tasty and the coffee was good. Booked online but it was very quiet. Will definitely be visiting again.

A thoroughly lovely pub, with excellent food and a great atmosphere. Despite being very bust our food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Easily the best chicken burger I've had. They also have a very good selection of real ales and being dog friendly is the icing on the cake. Truly couldn't fault the place.

Sunday dinner is one of the worse I have had in a while. Roasties were clearly frozen or from the week before. Would not come back.

Staff we’re friendly, nice atmosphere. The Sunday lunches were a let down must have stood for a good while as served on cold plates which meant a cold dinner. The pork was somewhat tough and chewy.. There was one of the dinners not plated up properly with no roast potatoes as expected. Such a shame as this pub was recommended by one of the locals.

Exactly what we were looking for a friendly well appointed pub with resteraunt and great helpful staff. My Dad and all the family generations had a fabulous night to remember , nit rushed but well attended too just what tge Doctor ordered 👍. 10/10 . Just as good and food fab a really credit to Green King. Staff friendliness really stands out .
