Having looked at several offerings in the Wymondham area we settled on the Boars for our club Xmas dinner . Many members expressed an interest in a meal out but in the end were not tempted by the menu and price so only 9 of us met to enjoy festive fun .For starters the mushrooms on toast were enjoyed but the croquettes were dull and disappointing and the cured trout tartare with bearnaise sauce was really disappointing and quite difficult to eat as the “sauce” was solidified warmed butter - greasy and unpleasant. The main courses were lacking in sufficient and varied vegetables ( only Brussels with the Xmas dinner ) and nothing extra served with the other main courses and several dinners thought their Turkey tasted fishy . The only nod to a Christmas meal was a Santa hat for each dinner. On reflection eating from the main menu would have been a better choice than opting for the Xmas offering

Went here for the first time as it was half way for us and family we were having Sunday lunch with. First impressions of pulling up were what a lovely looking traditional pub. On arrival we were swiftly shown to our table, quick drinks order taken and food order. Very ambient inside and lovely, cozy decor. The food was absolutely delicious, being asked how we wanted our beef was great and it was delicious. The starters were yummy, would recommend the Fried Mussels. Roasts were fab, lovely tender meat, veg cooked to perfection and huge portions of roast pots and Gravy. What a great find and will definitely be coming back...thank you!

Another excellent lunch at The Boars to celebrate my partners birthday; he absolutely loves having lunch here, despite having to travel over an hour from home! I had a double Gordons with tonic [7] and my partner enjoying a half pint Ghostship [2.40]. We shared the Tiger Prawns to start [9.50]. I chose from The Hake from the 'specials board' [20] and my partner chose his favourite Duck Breast [22], along with 175ml Rioja Crainza [7.10]. We both enjoyed the Apple Tatin [8.50 each]. I had a Flat White [3.80] and my partner a Double Expresso [3.50] Total [92.30] + tip. *Note on Tuesdays, most main courses are only [12]! Would strongly recommend this great pub/restaurant and always worth pre-booking as it usually gets very busy. Great service and attentive staff too.

Had two roast beef dinners with a side of stuffing, so thankful I ordered the stuffing as the main dinner was awful , two thin slices of roast beef each, extremely hard to cut and even harder to chew, like chewing rubber, the roast potatoes were inedible,I have all my own teeth but I could not break through the crust of the potato ,jaws from James bond would have struggled, they were Rock hard like they had been deep fried ,and for too long, two tiny segments of a parsnip, not even a whole one each ! Yorkshire pudding was nice as were the carrots, didn't stay for pudding, was in and out in 30 minutes ,

We came in here for a birthday celebration, the service was poor. We had to ask for drinks and menus... We were served by 4 members off staff so it was abit all over the place. The starters were all cold and below average. The short rib beef was nice, however just served with a few chips and pickled Carrots. Coleslaw would have been nicer, they only had homemade Mayo which I couldn't eat due to being pregnant. When asked if they have any other Mayo or sauce was told no only homemade. 🙄 I was told the Mayo didn't have alcohol in it when I asked if was homemade... I needed to know if it was pasteurised not the alcohol percentage.... No checkbacks were made to our table so again we had to get someone's attention for more drinks etc. Our tables sat dirty for 15 minutes after everyone had eaten, we had to ask someone to clear them. We dine out as a family alot and there's some really wonderful places in Norfolk. This isn't one.

My husband and I went to The Boars for lunch to have a belated celebratory meal for our wedding anniversary, using a gift voucher we were gifted by my mother-in-law. We enjoyed our food, but sadly we left feeling like we didn’t want to return. Upon paying, we realised our gift voucher (which is only valid for 8 months) had expired 7 weeks prior. Obviously upset, we explained this to the waitress, asking if there was anyway they would still accept it, to which we were told it couldn’t be. We understand we left this too late, but we found it really disappointing with the lack of grace we were shown. My mother-in-law bought the voucher, and they have kept the money, so our meal essentially cost double the price. A little more understanding from the pub would have been nice! We recently moved to the area and were planning to come here regularly, but sadly this experience left us with a sour taste, so we won’t be returning or recommending them.

This was a very lucky google search. Was looking for a venue between St Albans and Norwich for my mother in laws 80 birthday gathering. Booked it with no idea what it was like or really even where it was. What a success! The pup itself is charming and unpretentious. We were in the bar that allows dogs. Location lovely. But the real bonus was the food and staff. Food was delicious and fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. Half our party was 3 hours late (accident on M11) so we ate in shifts. At no time did the staff make us feel unwelcome and served the late arrivals with the same delicious food. Ended up spending the whole afternoon there and would definitely return!

Our mains were delicious but our desserts were very disappointing, one very over cooked, one tasted stodgy and stale. I should have picked the creme brûlée which is always delicious. I was treating someone for a special birthday so it wasn’t nice that the waiting staff felt the need to openly discuss the price of each main which I felt was unnecessary and made my friend feel uncomfortable.

Decided last minute that we didn’t want to cook so booked the boars, I’d never been myself but my partner had been a couple of times over the years. For starter we shared a crab croquettes which tasted ok. For main my partner had the lamb burger which she said was a bit dry and lacking a bit of imagination on the plate. I had the crab linguine which was really nice. We were tempted with a sweet and I had the lemon syrup sponge with ginger ice cream and my partner had crème brûlée and we both thought they were yummy. The service was really friendly and efficient, we sat outside which maybe wasn’t the best idea as the wasps seemed to like my cider. For a Wednesday we were surprised how busy it was and made for a nice atmosphere on one of the few nice summer evenings. I personally thought my food was very nice but my partner was not quite as happy with her main. I’d score it 4/5 and she said 3/5

A bit of a mixed review. We visited Friday evening. We sat out in the beautiful beer garden and one of the waitresses came to take our drinks order. We asked only about Alcohol free options and chose a few AF beers. We're brought out 2 pints of Peroni and could tell they were alcoholic. That could have been quite a disaster for someone who can't drink! 2 correct beers then brought out. We then were waiting ages for someone to take our food order (it wasn't busy otherwise would have understood this) in the end had to go in and found most of the waiting staff stood around chatting to request our orders taken. Food was good, request to have some as takeaway was happily dealt with. Just looks like staff maybe need a little bit more training in being attentive to customers and on the ball when service is on. We will come back again another day as a nice setting on sunny days in the garden.

It was almost empty when we arrived at 1230 midweek but filled up later. A choice of handpump beers which we were offered to taste, as well as the usual selection of gassy national brands. We had the three course lunch menu which we enjoyed. My salmon pate was a pleasant starter but the melba toast was offputtingly hard, putting teeth at risk. Softer toast would have been much better. My moules marinieres were quite perfectly cooked in contrast to the usual slightly overdone style elsewhere. The spiced focaccia, was tasty but over olive oiled so that it was too heavy to mop up the excellent mariniere sauce. The extra chips (my choice!) were almost superfluous. A fellow diner enjoyed the confit duck Leg, pepper stew and mash. The espresso coffee was of high standard. There was one young lady waitressing for several tables which she did with aplomb. All in all, a good lunch in comfortable surroundings. Please note that off road parking is very limited so arrive early.

This was suppose to be a treat for our anniversary. More like a basic pub meal than a restuarant meal Service was poor, food just warm, a basic bottle of wine was very expensive. It had gone down hill since our previous visit a couple...

The food here is always superb and it is a joy to visit. The Guinness here is every bit as good as back home and the welcome from the staff is always second to none. Looking forward to the end of this covid nightmare so that I can return.

We had chosen the patio outside for Covid precautions and it had a gas heater. However, during the course of lunch it stopped working and we froze! All the appropriate Covid precautions were observed and our drinks order was quickly taken and served. The menu is not particularly extensive but does include meat, fish and vegetarian to cater for all tastes. My partner selected two starters to be served as if one were the main course. Starting with gin cured salmon and following it with whitebait, both were really good. I chose the celeriac soup served with crispy bacon., very good on a cold day! For main course I selected the venison loin served with pureed carrot and fondant potato. It was tender and excellent in all respects. For dessert we both selected the Brioche and mincemeat bread and butter pudding. We agreed that it was the best bread and butter pudding EVER!This pub/restaurant continues to provide a high quality of meals and service. It is my "go to" pub of choice. Very good value

Travelling back from Norwich, we were looking for a welcoming country pub that served decent food and was dog friendly and we hit upon the perfect find. We had the Sunday roast and mussels served with proper chips and homemade mayonnaise, with a starter of celeriac soup. Absolutely first class with the welcome, food, service and venue. Thanks chaps - you made our day!

Have been eating at The Boars for a number of years and always highly recommend it.The lockdown has forced them to provide take aways, so Friday nights are Fish and Chips and Halloumi burger.Whilst they are excellent I have to commend the chips. Amazing. Must be a new recipe or technique but they are now at a whole new level to what has gone before. Get them before we return to another new normal...

Really nice pub inside, well socially distant and organised. However, the main let down was that the food took a very long time to be served. Although there was complimentary toast provided, this wasn’t offered to us but it would’ve been nice to have been asked whilst waiting for our long awaited breakfast. In addition to this, the portions weren’t great for the price paid e.g the amount of beans were equivalent to two teaspoons worth. Therefore, I will not be returning in a hurry.

My family and I visited The Boars for our dinner on Monday evening and we were so pleased we did. The pub had a reasonable ale selection and an extensive wine list; the waiter was prompt and really friendly. I ordered off the bar menu and my husband ordered from the set menu, for some it would be considered quite pricey however the food was worth every penny especially the heritage tomato starter, the goats cheese croquettes and the pork cheek cassoulet. Really remarkable food and we felt it was worth the money. All the serving staff were warm and friendly without being overfamiliar. The pub itself is gorgeous and the gardens are stunning. We’ll definitely be heading back if we’re ever in the area

Having been travelling for nearly 5 hours we decided to stop off on our way home for a Sunday lunch. The Boars has been recommended and to our surprise when we called in they had spare table for the 4 of us, great! At £22 for 2 courses it was quite pricey but we were glad to get somewhere at such short notice (around 3:30pm). Drinks were ordered and came quickly (although the table water was forgotten) and everything was good, the ordering of the Sunday roasts was pleasant and hassle free, it didn’t take long to arrive and looked and smelt great. Unfortunately it was only warm and not hot, which is a big big bear for me but the others although carried on and chomped their way through, even though they all said the same about the temperature. Temp aside the food was great and very tasty.Unfortunately once finished the table was partially cleared of the mains and dessert ordered, that was it... we didn’t see anyone, we had to remind again about the table water and even when that finally arrived the cauliflower cheese dish was still sat in the middle of our table right up until the desserts finally arrived some 40 minutes later. In this time the table next to us had the wrong dishes severed and had to wait whilst others ate away whilst there’s was redone. The fire alarm also went off during this period and we joked the chef had just burnt the top of my dessert (creme brulee)...Never jest... when the desserts finally arrived the top of one half of the creme brulee was black with charcoal on the side of the dish. One half was edible, even though Burt flavours were increasing present but the other half was so dark, hard and impenetrable I have to concede. How the warm lunches and burnt dessert ever left the kitchen is testament to the lack of quality control and something at these prices you just wouldn’t expect. As others have mentioned, unfortunately... apart from happy pleasant guy who first served us (who then seemed to disappear), no one else seemed to bother or care about our table.Definitely won’t be returning or recommending on this experience... far too expensive with absolutely no attention to detail. A shame.

The food the staff.. Everything perfect.. A special thanks to Willow the waitress.. I'm 72 and never seen anyone as fast working. Efficient and service with a smile. We were amazed.. Not saying this because we might know her which is not the case.. It's because we stay in Wyndham once a week from great Yarmouth and always praise people and establishments when they deserve it.. Thank you ALL at the White Heart.. Will definitely be back regularly and recommend 100 %.

Had lunch here, staff were helpful and pleasant, the food was okay but not exceptional. The setting is quiet with a slight nod to the 1940's. Not sure about the green neon light in the alcove but it was an adequate lunch.

It's a lovely little pub in the middle of the village and at the end of Rockland broad where there are around 8 free morning's, it's great for a overnight stay, so back to the pub great people who make you feel welcome and a nice little area for outside seating on those summer evenings, so yes I'll be going back
