We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! We have visited for lunch meals on a couple of past occasions and have always been impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Thankyou.

So disappointed! While the server was excellent the food was shockingly bad. My husband, who just about never sends anything back, sent back his prime beef because it was so gristly he just could not eat it. The menu has gotten much smaller than it used to be, and he really couldn't find anything else that appealed, so he ordered a soup, and that was not good either. I ordered a risotto and it was dry, lacking in flavor, and I've made a better one at home. I didn't send it back as I did not want to further spoil the evening. I've had nice meals here in the past, but this was a complete dud. I hope it's just one bad night, but I won't be returning any time soon.

So my family and I went out for a meal and it started off lovely the food was good the service was a little rocky and other tables around us was having problems with their service but we didn’t think anything of it. We carried on with our meal. We finished with our meal and had to go ask for the bill as we had been left for some time. when we received it we was working it out between us and it wasn’t adding up so we went and asked the waitress if there was a service charge on the bill and she said there wasn’t any hidden service but it still didn’t add up for what we had ordered. We paid and left. My husband forgot the car keys on the table so had to go back inside and the waitress was complaining to other customers about a tip and saying how we paid to the penny on a nearly £200 pound bill and was expecting a tip. I find this outrageous from a company considering tips are not expected and it’s a choice on service overall. If you depend on tips then apply a service charge to the bill.

I have been here a few times and it has always been good. This visit was no exception. I took my daughter and her dog for lunch about 2 o'clock. Firstly everyone in the bar was so and were talking to us from the start and on and off. Mainly I think because of our dog a 2 yr old schnauzer very friendly and cute. All the staff were very attentive and professional and the food was superb. Low/Medium priced and excellent value. Definitely recommend.

lovely. relatively 'new' owners are fab. they are on the ball and welcoming and smiley (A smile goes a long way in my book) - it is a proper pub so there will be men propping up the bar (hurrah) and it is very much 'take us as you find us' but for me that beats all the sterile pubs that are around these days. gorgeous inglenook fireplace, dogs and cats welcome, good proper pub food and tasty too. If you want a decent filling meal on a cold day with a pretty atmosphere of a snuggly pub then you cannot choose better. We had a wake here and the buffet was HUGE - so much food and the staff were perfect. There were a LOT of us and the locals welcomed us with open arms and even helped one of our older relatives with his car! GOOD pub. Well done.

Booked a table for 10 family members to have a catch up at lunchtime . When we arrived were shown to a lovely room set up for us with views over the countryside. Waitress took drinks order which was promptly served and food order taken. We all had something different so quite a lot to write down. ! Food arrived all together piping hot, presented very well, generous portions and everything was perfect. The silence that followed was a testament to how much we were enjoying food rather than talking 😂. Some of us had a dessert which again arrived promptly and was equally delicious. Definitely recommend this place for it friendly staff, outstanding food and perfect for a larger than normal gathering. Thank you Boars Head for making it such a memorable day for all of my family

I’m a fairly regular visitor to this pub and have always been impressed with both the selection of drinks available and food options. It’s a very old pub and has the typical low beam ceilings and open fires which is cosy in the Autumn/winter months and the staff are always very courteous and polite. Megan & Guy who own the pub are a great team and work extremely hard to make the pub what it is. Dog friendly which is always nice and the ale’s are well kept. Parking is a plenty and finding it is pretty easy too. 5* establishment

My wife & I were going to a different pub and went past it so ended up at the Boar's Head. Really glad we did. A delightful old pub with beams and fires with a modern restaurant area - nice & bright with good countryside views. The food was very good - the bruschetta & salad starter was fresh & had a wonderful dressing - my wife wanted to change her mind & have that has her main but still really enjoyed her lamb shank from the specials board. I decided to go all vegetarian & went for the cashew nut paella which was very nice & surprisingly filling. Would have liked to go back for the Wednesday steak night but it is a little late for us as it is between 7 & 9pm.

My daughter and I visited this pub Easter weekend for late lunch. We had decided to go to another and had driven past this one but stopped on the 60mph bit of the A26 and turned round to check it out. I have lived quite near this pub for 7 years but never visited. What a mistake that was. The views from the garden are great and the staff were friendly and helpful. I am not sure but believe there has been a change in ownership but whatever the case they have really got it sorted. Really good food with reasonable prices and brilliant service. My daughter had the Hunters Chicken which is usually a chain staple. The Boars Head does not belong to any chain and the food was super. I had the Ploughmans which was also good. We/I will be visiting again soon for sure. Leaving the carpark we turned left to see where it went and found an organic farm shop which was another suprise.

We visited this pub a few years ago and were made to feel quite unwelcome. It was almost a case of "you can't sit there, that's the colonel's chair". Fast forward to 2019. The pub has new management and the change is remarkable. We visited this evening for dinner. We received a warm welcome and were escorted to our table in the very pleasant restaurant. The food was very good, the service was good and very attentive. They also offer a good range for vegetarians and vegans. The bar was absolutely heaving and it is now a very popular meeting place - for a meal or just for a drink. Note to management: please serve a really good lager - like Asahi or Peroni and your pub will be just perfect!

We haven't been to this pub for a long time, as on our last visits it was as though someone had been round with the atmosphere hoover. It was also pretty cliquey and the food was bland and predictable. As it changed hands a few months ago we thought we'd give it a try. We went for lunch on a Monday, half expecting to be the only ones there, but were surprised how busy it was. For the first time we felt welcome in there, and the atmosphere was much better than when we'd been previously. The service was good, as was the menu of typical, unptretentious pub food, with additional daily specials, reasonably priced. The portions were good, (too much for me), as was the quality, but remember it's pub food. So don't go expecting rare fillet of unicorn, served with a jus of mermaid's tears! It's a nice traditional pub, oak beams and log fire, and it's good that it's been given a new lease of life.

Met up with friends recently at this pub/ restaurant, had a great meal in convivial surroundings. There were 10 of us eating, so meal was slightly delayed, but we were not disappointed. Good sized portions , delicious choice of desserts , reasonable priced. What's not to like . Only criticism, there were very large tropical fish in tanks on display, I felt they rather put one off ....perhaps they should be in the landlords / landladies private quarters ....just a wee criticism. Food was great . Recommend booking beforehand , place was packed, midweek.

The menu on a Sunday apart from roasts offers a really good choice including sandwiches which are usually not available in a number of pubs on a Sunday. The staff very very helpful and food was served promptly which was impressive as the pub was busy. Two friends and I visited for a preChristmas lunch priced at over £20. It was a Monday and there was a smattering of snow in Uckfield where we live. We phoned to ask the position in Crowborough which is notorious for its Arctic conditions and were told it was 'ok, and only one party of 5 had cancelled. We arrived to a rather disultory atmosphere and found we were the only ones booked in! Other tables were not even set. The first course, for me, was OK; mushrooms in garlic, run of the mill, not much effort there, But the main course, roast turkey was served on cold plates (as were my companions). I asked for it to be heated. Oh, it was, a little but on the same cold plate. The vegetables were terrible. The sprouts were white with a tinge of green, obviously yesterdays, the other undescribable veg were all diced and reheated and uneatable.I had cheese to follow while my companions had, I am not sure what, and they tried to fob me off with a hard cheese containing a lot of chilli which they had the grace to say wasn't popular the day before. So again, left over? How they had the cheek to even charge £5 for that mean beats me. We paid because we agreed to and that the honest thing to do. The manageress was friendly and that mitigated matters and so she got away with not experiencing our wrath. The whole affair was inexusable and we were taken for idiots. I will not recommend this place to anyone. PS They even demanded a £5 deposit before we could even book!

We were there to celebrate a family birthday and could not have found anywhere more accommodating and with such great food. Because we were quite a large group and an age range of 5 to 75 years, we all pre-ordered and that was good for them and us. We were made very welcome and given the conservatory to ourselves, also given a free hand to put up a few balloons and decorations. Everyone enjoyed their food and we were all served each course at the same time which meant we were all at the same place. Asistimos a la noche italiana, era divertido y agradable y la gente no eran cliquish. Pruébalo y te enamorarás de.

The Boars Head near Crowborough was accommodating travellers a long time before there was a Crowborough.I have lived in the area over 60 years and never eaten there. Having had a few disappointments with the parents locally lately, I took a gamble on their 65th wedding anniversary. Landlord was very friendly on booking by phone. On arrival, the lady in charge was filling every role with the aid of a lady chef. She's a bit frosty at first but soon melts. I got a dog like that. We were amazed. The pub has umpteen different rooms, nooks and crannies and a warm large open fire. I reckon they could seat 100 or close to it.The menu isn't extensive and you need to go to the bar to order. It was lunch and the landlady says that they get very busy in the evening. Food was excellent and service good. I will be going again. On Friday. Also, it was extremely good value.

All food is freshly cooked and very appetising. We love steak night on Wednesdays but have also eaten here on other evenings. Chicken satay and rice is always good. Nice atmosphere and you can either eat in the pub area or the conservatory.

Ate here again recently and the food and service were as good as ever. The chef has a good understanding of the dietary needs of a coeliac and is always very clear about which dishes are gluten free or could be made gluten free. The food is cooked to order.steak night on a Wednesday evening is very good value at £9.95 too good range of dishes available.

This pub is pleasant enough. It has a good selection of ales and ciders and serves home-cooked food, with variable success. The menu is not extensive and is okay, but not special or particularly good from a culinary viewpoint.

I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.
