Very disappointed that under aged kids are allowed to drink in the pub. I had to pick my son up drunk, he is 16. To tell my older son who collected him, he doesn’t notice when it’s busy, it’s your job and your staff to not allow them in and serve them.

Beautiful village pub. First time visiting and the service was lovely, peaceful and friendly. The food was very tasty, great portion sizes and quality was lovely, first time my son ate all of his food (he’s very fussy) great value for money and will absolutely be visiting again. Such a peaceful location and super friendly! If your thinking of going you absolutely must you will not be disappointed.

Landlord Anthony made every effort to lay on a superb spread of hot and cold, meat and vegetarian options. Though there is no specific function room, there is a large alcove in the pub to afford all necessary privacy, and bar staff were able to manage a tab for guests. All facilities were clean and bright. Draught beers were Old Hooky & Hook Norton Bitter both kept extremely well. The cost was reasonable and as anticipated. A deposit of £10 p/h was required. Negotiating requirements was both amicable and professional. I wholeheartedly recommend The Blue Boar for receptions / events of any nature. Keep up the good work, Anthony & Team.

The absolute epitomy of local country pub, particularlu if you're yearning for that cotswold vibe. It's like being invited into someone's home with relatives you haven't seen in ages. The locals are super friendly and well behaved dogs are part of the furniture, as there are no end of "good boys" to say hi to. The food never disappoints, the wine is hand selected from a local wine dealer and is good value for money considering the quality and the fact you won't be served something you can pick up in a supermarket. If you know what cocktails you like, odds are they can be made and the landlord is always on the hunt for something a bit special. The atomstphere is particularly nice on a sunny day or in the evenings as the interior is very cosy and you're spoilt for fireplaces. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Worth a trip out of the city for. Oxford and London! Have taken some of my London freinds here for the true Oxfordshire experience. A total hidden gem. If you do fancy it, you actually can take a walk from the pub down to the Thames too! So a good rendezvous spot for walkers.

We hadn’t been to the Boar for sometime and I instantly ‘sensed ‘ the new ownership .. The ambience was fresh , informal with a homely feel. Staff were attentive throughout . The menu was innovative without pretension. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our choice of burger ( very well presented ) and the risotto of asparagus, pea and broad bean with blue cheese and walnut topping which was delicious. We shared a cheesecake, passion fruit with apricot couli I regretted the sharing . They are wanting to get on the food map and very deserving too, so get your sat nav programmed for your next meal out it will be well worth it .

This pub used to be our real go to for food, but has really changed. We only came for a drink today, but the Pinot Grigio was almost warm and tasted cheap and like vinegar. We both tried to finish it, and just couldn’t which is saying something. Worse still though were the toilets. They were dirty and had not been cleaned. Neither had the wash hand basin. Even more worrying at this time when things should be super clean. This is all so sad as it was the most gorgeous and cared for village pub, where gorgeous home cooked food and a warm atmosphere with great wine was a constant. Not now sadly.

Stopped for a coffee mid-afternoon, so it was quiet. People still there, lazing on a sunny afternoon. It's pretty much as you'd expect of a rural pub, with a shiny coffee machine and all that goes with it. Easy-going rather than super-posh with friendly staff and - nice coffee.

This pub has been a much loved watering hole for many many years, but it is no more. I have been coming here since 1977, since when it has gone from strength to strength, with a wonderful atmosphere, a caring landlord, a terrific buzz and excellent food. All that has changed recently, with a new owner. He/she/they inherited a well-known landmark with a great reputation and a full parking lot, then proceeded to completely strip it of all its character, all its good food and, apparently, all its clientele. I have been there twice recently, partly in the hope that the first time was an anomaly and partly because I couldn't quite believe my eyes. On both occasions, there were about 5 people in the entire pub, not one of them dining. Mostly empty, and stripped of its decor, the pub was far from welcoming - although the bar staff are perfectly sweet and efficient. The snack menu boasted cocktail sausages, olives and a few other dreary and uninspired offerings than looked like they had been lifted from the '60's. There was no other menu on show, except the mention of a Thursday "Curry Night", but the snack menu did not instill me with any confidence that it would be edible. All in all terribly sad. I can't imagine it will be around for long, because you simply cannot run a profitable pub nowadays without customers and good food. There is too much competition for this minimalist approach to work. So I say a very sad goodbye to the Blue Boar, and hope that one day it will regain its former glory, likely under new management.

Booked for Sunday lunch, the earliest they could do was 2pm (which is late for us with 2 kids) but turned up early and the table was ready which was a relief. The place wasn’t particularly busy, there were lots of flies, took over 30mins for the the starters to arrive and then easily the same again for main courses. When the mains arrived the food was just warm so needed to send it back again which meant a longer wait. The staff were abrupt and not attentive at all. The food wasn’t great either - more like a £7,95 Sunday lunch, not £16!! Would not recommend and would not return.

Yep, have to agree with the Vampire review - the amount of garlic in the fish risotto was over-powering - I think the thatched roof probably absorbs the vapours from it. Because with the amount of garlic sauce in the 'fish risotto in garlic sauce' you will never see the moon again! Risotto in garlic sauce can be touched by garlic, it can bathe in garlic or even swim in garlic, but this risotto needed goggles and breathing aparatus such was the amount cooked in it! The actual risotto was well cooked and l would recommend this dish if you want to alienate yourself from the general public for the next week whilst your body tries to get rid of it.

Met here for a lunch meeting. Nice pub in a small tucked away village. Service was excellent and so was the rebellion beer. Food was mostly good with one exception. We had soup and Thai fish cakes to start which were delicious. The Steak and kidney pudding was also great. A stew special was tasty but, served on an extra large plate with the stew potatoes and veg spaced far apart, it looked a bit odd. The disappointment was a Thai Red curry which was served in a bowl (I think they mixed up the serving plates). The rice was covered in sauce making it look like a runny rice pudding. There was quite a lot of nearly raw green peppers and a very crunchy Pak Choi stalk in with the few chicken pieces. The dish had a kick but i think this was due to a sprinkle of chilli or cayenne pepper over the dish. This was also a special but appeared to be a bit of an after thought. As I say, this was the only poor dish out of six so still worth 4 stars overall for our experience. Also got to watch the Rugby international with very friendly regulars.

We have just moved into the area and are trying out the local restaurants and decided to try The Blue Boar in Longworth for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our daughter and her school friend. We received a warm welcome and had a great table next to the open fire. The menu had a good choice of main courses, and the children's menu offered everything the girls wanted. I had the Sea Bass which was delicious, however the bacon lardons were burnt rather than crispy. My husband had the Pork Loin and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our daughter ordered the Homemade Meatballs and Spaghetti, however when it arrived it was Macaroni Cheese with meatballs on the top which we queried and were told that they didn't have any spaghetti so this was the substituted option. We sent this back to the kitchen as re-ordered Chicken Strips and fries which came out extremely quickly and were delicious! The girls ordered Chocolate Brownie's with icecream for dessert and my husband and I asked if we could share the cheese board, however they only bought one knife and no side plates which was not ideal when sharing cheese, crackers, chutney, etc. We had to ask for more crackers as it only came with 6 small crackers and a huge amount of cheese. I also ordered a Peppermint Tea which didn't come so we had to chase it up. All in all, it was a good experience and we had a great evening with the added benefit of the local carol singers coming in! The new owner just needs to refine their staff training, customer service and added touches to make it an excellent experience. We'll definitely return to sample the lunch menu and Sunday roast.

Daughter and partner recently moved to the area. We all fancied a pizza and up popped the Blue Boar website stating that they served pizza. On arrival whilst not having booked a table were accommodated. Menus given and were disappointed to be told that they no longer served pizza. Well, we decided to stay.... nice atmosphere, pleasant waiting staff. Drinks order taken and served. Food order taken, after a reasonable time starters arrived. Dishes cleared and waited for our mains..... an hour later no sign so decided to ask where they were! Waiting staff very apologetic told short staff in kitchen and “boss” working in there! Given a free round of drinks. Thank you. Told 5 to 10 minute wait.... 20 minutes later three dishes arrived and then minutes later the fourth. Very good food thank goodness as we were about to walk. We had noted that tables had been reserved in main dining area... and food going out to these tables. We would like to suggest that if you are short staffed in the kitchen and have reservations, don’t take on more than you can cope with..... we will not be back.

The main bar at the Blue Boar is a lovely, cosy, characterful place, heavily beamed with various agricultural implements attached to the beams and a huge open fire. Either side of the main bar there are separate areas primarily set out for dining. The food is of the hearty and wholesome variety, rather than fine dining, which for me is a good thing, and is excellent. I enjoyed a delicious Duck Casserole with Herb Dumplings, although at £16.95 is a little on the pricey side; indeed most of the main items on the menu are priced around the £mid-teens. For how long will residents of this lovely part of Oxfordshire put up with the awful food in the Blue Boar? It is consistently poor - cold, undercooked, overcooked, slow - you name it. The locals had a rule - don’t go too far from the core menu and it’ll be ok - burgers, pizza or fish n chips. Even this cannot be guaranteed following a recent visit (undercooked and chewy pizza base, undercooked chips). Such a shame. Why? After meandering through the countryside with a saddle-sore backside, we at last had a chance to relieve the pressure that 30 miles cycling builds. Ushered towards one of the numerous fires my cycling companions and I found ourselves looking at all the trinkets and antiques on walls, windows and ceilings. This place felt wonderfully cosy and, although we didn't eat, we did find our eyes wondering as wonderful food drifted passed our noses. Maybe with some 'accidental' misdirection our never-go-the-same-place-twice cycling routes can lead us conveniently back to this pub once more with time for food ;)

Second time of eating at this lovely looking pub tucked away in the Oxfordshire countryside. The place is certainly atmospheric, well lit, nicely decorated and pleasant to have a meal in. The menu is varied and reasonable value for money. Choice of beers good also. The quality of the food is acceptable if not exceptional but no real complaints. Service was was also agreeable on both occasions visited. Worth checking out.

Small car park fills quickly with only narrow roads left to park in. Disappointed in the Seafood linguini, mainly tentacle of squid, finished before friend halfway through her very tasty short rib of beef, due to difference in portion sizes. Main courses are expensive. Main course took along time to arrive. Puddings delicious and large portion. Pizza menu is available.Recommend for charm/ambience and friendly staff, good for a drink.

I have been coming to this pub since the late 90's and every time we come over from Australia we always visit and I'm still in love with this stunning quaint pub and still the same bar flies at the bar!

Had a family visit for Sunday roast at the weekend. Lovely cozy atmosphere with great service off their friendly staff. Food took a little while to come out but was worth it. Desert was just as lovely. Been once before so thought we'd try again, will definitely go back and would recommend. Dogs also welcome.

Good hospitality and ambiance, good beers and food. One of the few pubs I've seen with handled beer glasses hanging up, a supern local, traditional village pub, may they never die. Well done.

Very nice place to go and chill . And have a few beers and chat. The staff are welcoming as the locals. So you should hop over and see for yourself.

Second time we have been to the Blue Boar with friends accompanied with two dogs a piece. The anti pasti board is great and makes a welcome change from a full roast at lunch time. Sat out side on both occasions. Very nice.

We love the Blue Boar and have usually found the food to be very good . BUT we took a group of friends for Sunday lunch today and were embarrassed by the tasteless watery food we were served. The roast potatoes had been kept warm for hours, the veg had started life as frozen veg, was watery and lacked any flavour, the pork was rather fatty and despite that, did not arrive with any cracking. The apple sauce was clearly not home made either. The waitresses were attentive and smiley but the coffee took forever to arrive. I am guessing the chef has changed? So disappointing.

This place used to be great. Went for lunch but was very disappointed with the quality of the food. It's so annoying because it would not take much to make this place perfect.

Great ambience. Some wonderful staff, and one sackless dark haired girl who barely smiled and was not much use. Good menu, the best Eton Mess in history!!!! One rare roast beef last week was exceptional but one this week was tough as old boots... very odd. Good starters. Loved all the desserts.

Great little country pub with good young staff. Dog friendly with a pretty little village surrounding it too.

Excellent evening out; beautifully presented meals served by personable, friendly staff who were only too happy to accommodate requests. Gorgeous traditional, thatched pub with updated interior and snug, cosy atmosphere - candles and fresh flowers in abundance! Friendly, young crowd with happy dogs who were offered water and pats from attentive staff. This is a hidden gem!

When we arrived, yesterday Sunday around 12.00 we were not totally sure they were open as all entry doors were shut. Thankfully all were unlocked. WIne and Beer were excellent and so nice that a pub has other offerings on a Sunday apart from the "Roast" which looked good by the way.We tend to eat at night so opted for a sharing Antipasti with a side, very good. The menu looked very good and reasonably priced.Big plus for us is they are dog friendly in one part of the bar, we sat outside but will bear this in mind for the cooler weather to come...probably July.Interestingly there was a roaring log fire going and made the place very welcoming, even in the deepest of June!Longworth is also away from main roads and the pub is in a no through road so beautifully quiet.Enjoy!

The first time I've eaten here in the evening and was a little disappointed. Wobbly table to start off, then found they didn't stock my favourite aperitif, OK I’m fussy, but the staff had never heard of Ricard ! The mains seemed overpriced in my opinion, nonetheless paying £ 21.95 for a sirloin steak I hoped it would be near perfect. I asked for rare but it didn’t bleed but luckily I was provided with a very sharp knife as I had to battle against the gristle running right through. I did report my not total satisfaction when the plates were cleared and the server said my comments would be fed back. I followed with a cheese and biscuits platter to finish off the reasonably priced bottle of Argentinian Malbec; not much cheese but lots of cream crackers and grapes; again a little pricey. The young staff were friendly and attentive but need to see how it could be done.

We were camping nearby and booked here for our large group of 17 people. We were asked to pre-order which was easily done by email using the menus on the pub's website. Our order was quickly confirmed. Once we arrived our food came impressively quickly. It was well presented, tasty 'pub grub' with good portion sizes - most of the childrens' meals could have comfortably fed the average adult. The exception was the kid's pasta which was small and didn't seem to contain the promised bacon. Dessert portions again were rather varied - all were adequate but the sticky toffee pudding could have fed two or three! Staff looked after us well and came back several times to check all was ok, bring jugs of water etc.

We have been to the Blue Boar about half a dozen times in the past. It's a smashing pub west of Oxford and a great place to go to feel you have got away from the city.We ate on a Saturday night and sat in the restaurant which hasn't got the character of the bar area but is still a nice place to eat.My wife is vegetarian and the pub doesn't have lots of options so she opted for a pizza which she was quite happy with. For the first time i tried the Blue Boar Burger and it fell short of the other meals I have had at this pub. In particular the bacon was quite fatty and not very crisp and the chips a little below parHaving said this we had a good night and the staff were great. We will probably return again but not in a silly hurry.

We used to come here often and were always impressed by the food, however in the past couple of years the standards appear to have slipped somewhat... I have been in a number of times at lunchtime and been denied a table for two as they were supposedly all booked up for the afternoon. We decided to stay for a drink instead and were in the pub for a good hour and just one of the tables was filled and we were sure that they could have fitted us in. Their loss on our custom; it seemed they just couldn't be bothered with us. When we have managed to get a table, the food was disappointing and staff unfriendly and unable to take complaints. We have been served bottles of warm white wine many times and have been told that it is 'supposed to be served that way'. (Anyone who knew anything about wine would know otherwise...) Blue Boar Burger used to be a go-to main course but has declined in quality. Shame as it was a favourite.Having said this the ambience in the pub is pleasant, and still looks traditional and un-commercialised. Open log fires in the winter are lovely. Pub is also very clean.

The pub is a little off the beaten track, but is worth finding. It is south of the Cotswolds but has a cotswoldy feel about it. It has the décor of a country pub, and a friendly feel to it. We had the ciabattas off the lunch specials menu for £7.95 each, and they were good value, coming with chips and salad. The log fire lept us warm on what was a colder showery April day.

I refuse to use this place as the owners obviously have no pride in the look of the place. Rubbish piled up near the entrance. I took the photo on a good day, usually it’s much worse than this. How do the customers not consider this an eyesore, unbelievable.
