A very nasty female owner who insulted my wife, the food wasn’t great either! Won’t be back and will be telling people not to go

Food not bad but landlady behaviour disgusting. Shouting, accusations, absolutely vicious. No wonder the place is empty. Highly stressful experience. Pity the people (other women) she is screaming about 🗯️🗯️🗯️. If you can't say anything nice, why slag ppl off. Unpleasant if not verging on harassment.

i took my new wife to this establishment whilst i was staying at a local stately home in cumrew on a self catering basis. my wife is from thailand and enjoyed her chips. there was an argument in the kitchen unfortunately and somebody was upset about washing up. apparently they have barred a lot of people from the locale, and the landlady was upset that the pub was empty. if i lived nearby i would go to help them out a bit, understand times are tough. my wife could help with washing up and been nice to customers (not much of that going on). but unfortunately i live in the borders. might or might not be back. a local solicitor showing off about their children's jobs in tv. otherwise quiet. my wife wished there had been more thai offerings on the menu. also, nobody spoke thai so she was a bit upset.

Food was lovely however it was spoiled by Jayne and Malcolm arguing in the kitchen which we could hear as we were sitting beside the kitchen door. Jayne then came into the bar area and asked a staff member why she was supporting her husband and if she was her 'lackey'. We felt sorry for the staff member as this was inappropriate and was uncomfortable, so we left. There was no need for any of this especially after Jayne had told us earlier in the evening that she could do with being busier. We won't be going back.

We went for dinner on a Sunday evening having had the Blue Bell recommended to us. Friendly hosts, a good pub menu, all cooked fresh to order in generous portions. Excellent home cooked food. A nice ambience in this charming old fashioned pub, we will be back and are telling our friends about it too! Thanks Jane and Malcolm

Jayne and Malcolm did a Chinese night on Friday 30th November. Their theme nights are always good but this evening of Chinese food was outstanding. Everything was made from scratch, even the prawn toasts and it was all delicious. Jayne, Malcolm and the staff worked so hard to provide superb dishes to a full pub. Well done!!

My boyfriend and my self went for dinner as it’s normally lovely for food but this time my dinner wasn’t the best I asked for a steak dinner and for my steak to be m-w but instead received it still red in the middle to be taken back into the kitchen and to come out no better was disappointed. As we waited on our food all we could hear in the kitchen was swearing and shouting.

Moved into the area a few months ago and had guests visiting so decided to take them for a meal here ( first time for us too) The owners Jayne and Malcolm were very welcoming. The food was amazing and we didn’t have to wait very long for it either, I would recommend the pheasant pie ! We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this pub to friends!

I've been visiting the Blue Bell since 2004(?) and it's still going strong. I think my sister and brother in law will be back!

What a great surprise this pub was. We were staying nearby and called in for dinner last night. We would've been happy with the usual pub fare after a day of walking. The Blue Bell Inn, however, was way beyond our expectations. Our steaks were excellent - both cooked to perfection and exactly the way we wanted. The mustard sauce I had with my steak was so good I could've had it on its own. Jayne and Malcolm were lovely hosts, we felt very welcome and had a really pleasant time in this little pub. If only every country pub was like The Blue Bell Inn.

Remarkable dining on the Cumbria fellside. The menu here is well ahead of other nearby hostelries and is far beyond 'pub grub'. A warm welcome from Malcolm and Jayne is always a plus. I'm only 5 miles away I should get in more!

Ok, I'm biased as this is my local and I like Malcolm and Jane, who own it, very much. But the food is very very good indeed. Jane, who does most of the cooking, is a very talented chef. Together Malcolm and Jane run a pub which provides a warm welcoming atmosphere, with good beers, a decent range of wines and excellent meals.

After seeing good reviews for the Bluebell Inn online we checked it out for a weekday evening meal and it didn't disappoint! Very friendly couple running the place, who were attentive and responsive to our every need. Was lovely to chat to them but they also respected our space as a family holiday. Old fashioned pub with traditional design but very friendly and welcoming. Portion sizes were huge and very reasonably priced. Love the old feel to it with quaint ornaments everywhere. Only downside was that dogs weren't allowed inside but apart from that would definitely recommend to fellow travellers around this area :)

We had called in the previous week for a drink and booked dinner for last night as we agreed the menu looked very interesting and appetizing. We were greeted very warmly by the landlord who serves a great glass of lager. My partner ordered Parmesan Chicken which was a very generous portion and was very tasty. I had ordered rump steak and had requested it cooked more towards rare. Rump steak can be a tricky cut of meat to get right but the chef got it perfect,it was succulent and tasted fabulous. Kissed on both cheeks was how I once heard a perfect steak called.A warm and friendly little pub/inn and the landlord chef and waitress all had time for a chat. Can not wait to go back.

Excellent food all homemade. Regular choices with specials. Warm and friendly. I had gorgeous fish and chips, whilst my husband had gammon, all came with a choice of salad or vegetables. Steaks, with or without sauces are available, homemade lasagne, or try a salad or chicken curson. Good selection of starters and desserts. Children's menu available.

I’m not normally a one to complain but as I rarely get out and it was my birthday I felt I had to say something. My husband and I arranged to go to Fantails to celebrate with great food and atmosphere as we have been previously and have never been disappointed. However on this occasion we felt rushed through. I’ve never in my life been so rushed to have a 3 course meal. We initially thought the service was quick as we were offered drinks immediately and the menu. We were given a few minutes to decide. We ordered both a starter and our main meals and started to enjoy the evening. My husband’s starter arrived very quickly, within a few minutes in fact. Once he had finished his last mouth full. The staff came over taking his plates away, even though he still had bread left to eat! Which he had to eat without his bread plate! We thought maybe the waitress didn’t realise. The main meal came literally a few minutes later. No break at all. The main was lovely and took us a while to get through. It was then like a 100m sprint race …. The waitress was over within seconds to clear our plates as my husband put his cutlery down. It was as though they were watching us on camera! We were asked the question straight away ‘would you like to see the dessert menu?’ We looked at each other thinking goodness we would like our mains to go down 10 minutes at least before we even looked at a dessert menu! Any ways as we felt uncomfortable with the atmosphere at this point. We ordered our desserts and they arrived around 2 minutes after ordering so this was about 5 minutes after our last mouthful of our main meal. At this point we were annoyed. But to top it off. My husband hadn’t even finished his dessert (put his last mouthful in and chewing) the waitress came over and said are you finished? My husband with his mouth still full said ‘well just about’ while the bowls were whisked away. The whole meal was squished into an hour if that. My rare evening out was ruined. If we’d known going at 5:30pm on a Sunday was going to be a rush we’d have gone somewhere else, and quite frankly enjoyed our meal at our own pace. I have had many good meals here in the past. But I doubt very much I’d be back because of this evening.

We came to the greyhound for Sunday roast as a family of 5. Firstly the food was delicious! We had roast beef, roast ham and macaroni cheese followed by syrup sponge with custard mixed fruit pavlova and ice cream...the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us...they made us starters even though they weren't on the menu for Sunday and even made up a small bowl of food for the baby at our request. Nothing was too much trouble...we all left full and satisfied. We will most definitely be back. Thank you so much for an amazing meal experience. Richard

Closing down soon. Unfortunately another country pub will close down on 30th June 2024. Staff were good and doing their best in the circumstances.
