The Blue Bell in Doncaster

Been a few times as this is my closest bar - prices are good and people ( if they are there ) are good - Manager is almost never there and is useless if he does turn up - and as such his staff are even worse - don;t expect good service - even if you can get served - their phones are more important than customers

I called in for help as was lost and needed taxi etc due to re routed bus service. One of the friendliest places I have found, both staff and customers. I will be visiting again with family sometime very soon. Lovely little village also.

Came here for my sisters 21st birthday this evening, and was absolutely disgusted with all the bar maids service. As soon as we walked in an old man (must’ve been a regular there) was sat with a woman who actually worked there! And said ‘oh the immigrants are coming in’ about my dad. The woman who worked there laughed hysterically at this old man and proceeded to give my dad dirty looks behind his back. Ruined my sisters 21st night only out for a couple of drinks and all left upset over this. You should teach your regulars and your EMPLOYEE a little bit of respect, it’s 2019! Also I hate to break it to you, but I don’t feel like you should all be drinking either while you’re working! Absolutely appalling. Racism is accepted at this pub. Not a single apology from anyone either when questioned about it. Disgusting.

No cask ale, although it still advertises 'cask marque'. If you like beer, then you may struggle to find anything to drink.

Decent enough local, just don't sit in the locals seats, otherwise you will be made to feel uncomfortable, stared at and intimidated. Also the kareoke is quite a serious affair, if you are thinking of having a bit of fun I would suggest frequenting another establishment

This is a good honest local pub. Staff very friendly as are the people who use it. It is not a pub/restraunt but they have just started selling burger and chips at a very reasonable price. There is a small outside seating area where you can sit with a dog and the staff are happy to provide a bowl of water. If you just want an good pint without being swallowed by diners then this place is recomended.

Popped in here for our tea to find that they no longer serve food. The really helpful young man behind the bar is why I gave 5 stars, thanks to his advice we had a really nice tea at another place round the corner. It's nice to find that kind of person thanks

The food at the Blue Bell is up there for quality with the best gastro pubs I have been to, but the large portion sizes and low prices set it apart from most gastro pubs. It will definitely become our pub of choice for food

I came here with a friend. Food looks really appealing and the portion size is generous. Decent value for money. That's where it ends. Food is a hit bland for my liking.

Not been for a long time until tonight and got a shock the service the food really need upgrading. Waited over ONE and a HALF hours to be served. I ordered Salmon which was nothing like the description on the menu. Too many potatoes enough to serve several people. No vegetables and quite tasteless. Very disappointed and the management didn't seem bothered

Visited with friends from Manchester, excellent food, chips to die for!! Slight delay with the food order but then, they were very busy but well worth the wait. Looking forward to a return visit.

Having been to the Blue Bell before for meals and drinks, I was hopeful for having a good time there again, and was not disappointed! I had the minted lamb suet pudding, which was amazingly tasty, with proper homemade chips - not frozen rubbish like other places serve. We didn't wait an age for the meals, nor was it there in a flash - it was obvious everything was done fresh at the time we arrived. The Blue Bell has become one of my favourite places to meetup with friends and family alike, and would highly recommend everyone try it!

My Fiancee and Myself called in for the first time after dropping off our Daughter at the Airport near by. We ordered Scampi and Chips and Steak & Ale Pie , we were met and greeted by Karl I believe who was extremely helpful and friendly with us . The food came out a little while later, it was piping hot , fresh and you can tell especially with the Steak and Ale pie that it was home made; the meat was lovely and not at all fatty or gristly, The chap that served also mentioned that he had put some more Onion Rings in for us for nothing these were fresh large home made Onion Rings not the ones you see in the Supermarkets, the batter was beautiful. Both meals were excellent and we both also had a Pudding of Treacle Tart and Apple Cobbler which was so light and tasty , my partner who does not often finish her desert ate the whole piece . We were very impressed with everthing , prices , quality , service and the Manager also gave us a free 3rd drink . Will certainly call agin . Will recommend to all . Very impressed

Called in for tea as I had seen the Blue Bell advertised in a local paper, most of the eateries around here are chain pubs (Part Of A Big Group) and the food is much of a muchness, but not here, our meals were freshly cooked and very well, I had a sirloin steak which was one of the best I have eaten,the bill was not expensive and a bonus was the beer was first rate, if I had not been driving I could have done a session! It was very quiet but EVERYONE was friendly and helpful.... We could not understand how a pub serving food of this quality was not packed will be recommending to our friends and suggesting for them to try, the menu is limited but you know that the food you choose is fresh and cooked to order and very tasty. Give it a try like we did!

Had a drive out to the Blue Bell on Easter Sunday for lunch with my wife and daughter. Made very welcome by the two girls working behind the bar.All 3 of us had the roast beef and it was excellent. It came with 4 or 5 fresh veg and was just good home cooked food which is what we were looking forward to. Lovely!

I went with my wife and our closest friends as the restaurant has been highly recommended. We were not disappointed. We all went with the steak which was perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go again.

Passed this pub loads of times on our way to town then yesterday decided to call in for tea,and we was not disappointed. As soon as we walked in we was made to feel very welcome, the locals stood at the bar where very friendly and chatty. The pub was very clean and tidy and to top it off the food was delightful.we will be returning there soon.

Just thought I would share our experience of the Blue Bell in Hatfield. after reading the review in the Thorne Gazzete my husband and I thought we would give it a try. We are so pleased we did. It was very quiet when we arrived and we chose a table near the window so we could watch the world passing by. Delia explained all the different menus to us and we made our choice. We both had the Fish and chip special (fish chips peas bread butter and a pot of tea £5 each great value).Delia brought over our place settings a jug of ice cold water with lemon and then our lunch. It was just the right size not to big and not to small in fact neither of use managed to completely clear our plates. Beautiful fish homemade chips excellent. Delia came over to ask if we had enjoyed our meal and we assured her we had and would be returning in the future to try the daily specials and choices from the main menu. I asked about the vegetarian selection and was impressed with the range available. We certainley recommend a visit.

lovely food. good atmosphere. nice place till it came to paying the bill. why do you charge people an extra 50p for paying by DEBIT CARD! when my husband asked why it was because of high bank charges. good on the banks ehh!

It took 30 minutes to get a drink at an empty bar after 2 attempts at serving a vodka and lemonade with the lemonade tap serving a mix of coca cola and lemonade and the expectation that that was alright. Then the barmaid totally forgot to serve my Guinness as the bar staff continued to test the dark lemonade and serve locals then crowding the bar and I was encouraged to sit and wait and wait. The food arrived before the drink and was distinctly average with limp chips and salad and a tasteless and anaemic steak. In an attempt to leave quietly as the 'karaoke' started, we were asked to write a positive review. Sorry but I will leave the positive reviews for the locals to write.

Just goes to show that Trip Advisor works! The Mrs took a look at high ranking pubs in Doncaster and on that basis we drove 20 miles to Hatfield. The journey wasn't wasted and we'll be doing it again. Three of us had the specials, Rack of Ribs and Lamb shank - gorgeous fresh food with home made chips too. Another had Hunter's chicken. All the food was excellent quality, we all had drinks and sweets and for four of us the price was £66 which really was value for money. The hospitality was clearly family run, very welcoming and warm and had that personal touch which is often missing these days. Thanks to the Blue Bell for a lovely family night out and see you soon!

The Blue Bell ticks all the right boxes when it comes to dining out. It has a cozy, relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is good pub food,with a good choice. Highly recommended!

Came here for a family meal on mothers day the food was absolutely delicious.The staff are very friendly and atmosphere is lovely too.They can not do enough for their customers felt very relaxed and they were very welcoming .The blue bell is also very clean and the food is very good value for money would reccomend this to anyone safe to say we will be going again.

I had to write a review about the meal we have just had in Hatfield,it was excellent in every way. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. With it being a Sunday the choice was limited to sunday roasts, but it didn't matter as everything was cooked to order. Between us we had the full selection, from lamb shanks to chicken breast. The lamb was cooked to perfection, slightly pink and fell from the bone. We asked for extra gravy and this was no trouble at all. It was my sons 21st birthday and they put up a personalised banner for us, without us asking, which was a lovely touch. We chose this venue through other trip advisor reviews and they are absolutely spot on - would highly recommend.

My friend and I visited blue bell one afternoon as it was very highly recommend. We wasn't disappointed we had braising steak Yorkshire pudding, off the winter savers menu (£3) I was really surprised. I'm a great believer in you get what you pay for, I was expecting a little frozen Yorkshire pudding served with poor Quality mean however I was pleasantly surprised to find I got large home cooked Yorkshire pudding with all the filling inside. The staff were very friendly and chatty so much so that my friend and I felt the need to comment on here (my 1st ever comment on trip advisor) how welcoming this pub is.

We dropped on the Blue Bell as it was the only pub we could book in at on Mothers day. We were extremely pleasantly surprised , the pub was very welcoming and the food excellent. The services was good, the food was tasty and red hot, All in all a very good find for us and will definitely call again.

The food at the Blue Bell is outstanding, and is one of the main reasons I return time and again! The atmosphere is friendly, just like a local pub is supposed to be, yet none of the clique-iness of some other places is evident.This is definitely a place to try, and once you do, you'll be back again!

have now been to the Blue Bell for the last 2 saturdays and had differnet meals both times staff are very friendly and happy to help, was busy with football fans but the service was still very good and the fans were very polite around our daughter.will be there again on saturday for lunch.

Gave the blue bell a try, very impressed the staff where very friendly and attentive. We all plumed for the fish and chips the best I have had lovely light batter and even bread and butter to go with it. Will deffienatly return

Four of us visited for Sunday lunch with high expectations after reading all the reviews. It was very quiet when we arrived at 12:30. There was no music and the television was on. We were served drinks promptly by a very welcoming lady behind the bar and we took a table. We were surprised there wasn't a menu on the table even though we were told at the bar it was just Sunday dinner we expected maybe a few starters on offer and a run down of the main courses and prices etc.. We ordered at the bar and the food arrived fairly quickly, the beef and the gravy was beautiful there was a nice selection of vegetables but we were a little disappointed with the frozen Yorkshire pudding! And the packet horseradish sauce was disgusting. The young girl serving seemed very inexperienced and we were a little put out when half way through our meal she came over and asked if she could take the vegetable dishes away which were still half full with vegetables!! When the table was cleared she also said she would take the vegetable dishes first as they needed them?! Again no sweet menu just read out to us at the table, it would take 2 mins to print out an A4 card menu on a Sunday morning. The place was clean and presentable but not sure we would rush back.

We visited the Bluebell for my sisters 50th birthday after reading the reviews on here, the welcome was warm and the staff catered for all our party's needs, all the meals were generous portions .I ordered the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection .... will be visiting again very soon

Was going shopping to Doncaster so looked on the internet for a pub to stop off for some lunch on our way home and I must say I made a great choice with this one! I had the winter warmer and it was very filling and all lovely , my husband had pie with home made chips and veg again really nice then we also indulged with a pudding!! My husband had a few pints of their ale and he was impressed, Lovely pub, car parking, outside seating and friendly staff and customers. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future, might even make a day of it and I can try their wine.

Went here after reading the reviews by other patrons.... Fantastic food, outstanding value, very friendly welcome are the reason that this place is ranked so highly on trip adviser, I strongly recommend you try this place and I'm sure you will be as impressed as we were. The stew with huge Yorkshire pudding and the tiger baguette with steak cheese and onions were superb!! The menu is simple and to the point... Delicious food at a bargain price!! Enjoy.

Called into the Blue Bell on the way to Doncaster to watch the football. Picked Hatfield as it was a short drive (15 mins) from the ground. Picked the Blue Bell as it served food & had a pool table & Sky TV, all essential for our travelling party of 5.The meals where served quickly & my Rib Eye Steak was very nice. The choice of beers & lagers was extensive & all in all we had a great lunch in good company at great value for money.Pity about the football .... : )

We called here as a group travelling to a football match. There was a menu, however you could have whatever variation you wanted, extra sauces for the steaks, sweep potato chips instead of chips. Nothing was too much trouble! Food was delicious and good value for money.Would definitely visit again if we are in the area!

Just eaten for the first time at The Blue Bell in Hatfield with my family, we were all very pleased with the quality of both the food and the service. We read the reviews on trip advisor so thought we'd give it a go.....we genuinely were not disappointed!! Really good simple pub grub, ample portions and just very good value for money compared to other local pubs we go to regularly. We look forward to definitely returning again to try out the menu some more! :0)

Just had Sunday Lunch here, My husband had Lamb shank and I had the beef which just melted in the mouth. One of the nicest Sunday lunches we have had for ages and that includes both Mum's- LOL. We will be back. Thanks again.

Decided to try the Blue bell having read all the positive reviews. We went for sunday lunch on my mum's birthday -12th Jan 2014. There were 4 adults and one child and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Delia and her staff were all very welcoming. The food was great and really reasonably priced. I told Delia that it was mum's birthday and she gave her a free Baileys which was just the icing on the cake. Give this place a try - you wont be disappointed.

Visited for lunch on a Saturday - good food, friendly service. My son had the kid's fishcake which turned out to be a lovely homemade salmon fishcake. Fab chips too.Lunch with drinks for three of us was £22, as my hubby had steak.The Winter Warmer menu is fab value, but there weren't any veggie dishes on it, so I chose from the 3 veggie specials.If we lived nearby we would be here every week!

We decided to give this pub a try after reading some good reviews on the website. We were not disappointed - excellent homemade food and really helpful and friendly service. The dishes we tried were Rack of Ribs, Chicken Chasseur, Ham shank and Rib Eye Steak - all delicious with good quality ingredients and more than ample amounts. Prices are very reasonable and the attention to detail (such as the jug of iced water with the meal) added to our enjoyment and show that the owner has high standards. We will definitely go again.

Had a great Lamb Shank for Sunday Lunch also had beef dinners here previous. All the staff were welcoming and the service was spot on. The cost was good value. Will eat again no probs

My best friend and I have just devoured a massive Yorkshire pud filled with the most tender braising steak. This was served with roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, sweetcorn and cabbage/leeks. We rounded this off with Bailey's cheesecake, thoroughly enjoyed it and what a bargain for 9 quid for 2 people. The only dis-advantage is we live miles away but we'll definately come back.

Myself and my mum have been here twice.....the first time we had steaks cooked to perfection and really cheap price for obviously good quality food. However the next time we went a couple of weeks ago we ordered steak and it was over cooked. The reason I give this pub 5 stars is because as soon as we said it was overcooked it was whipped away with no fuss and was cooked to perfection and brought back out!! Superb customer service.....lets face it a couple of minutes is all it takes to overcook and is easily done. My mum and friends were there last week and had Lamb Henrey.....to die for my mums word so we will back definatley!!

What a wonderful freshly cooked and plenty to eat for a very low budget, for £3.00 i had braising steak in a large Yorkshire pudding accompanied with freshly cooked vegetables. this was very enjoyable and very filling i just don't know how they do it for the cost i would truly recommend a visit and try for yourself

Our first time at the Blue Bell,we were greeted with a warm welcome ,nice wine at a very reasonable price.We both ordered steaks,the Rib Eye and T Bone were really tasty and perfectly cooked which came with a range of sides.Nice surroundings and the locals were very friendly.It's a really nice pub and deserves much more local support and custom as the food is great.

After days of deliberation of where to go for a birthday evening meal in the local area, I chose the Blue Bell due to its reviews on Trip Advisor. We weren't disappointed. I wanted good food and service and that's what we got. The steaks were fantastic, cooked exactly how we wanted them. Having grown up in a family run "steak restaurant" I do know what a good steak should taste like. The prices were extremely reasonable and we certainly had no room for deserts. Its also a very friendly cosy pub with the landlady coming over to speak to us and nothing seemed too much trouble. It was quiz night and although we didn't participate, there were a few characters that made us laugh and it looked a good fun night. Its really worth giving it a try, they are not serving the typical menu of chain pubs and it shows in the cooking. I would definitely recommend and come and see for yourselves.

My husband and I and two friends went to the Blue Bell on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday.It was the first time we had been to this pub so we really didn't know what to expect. We need not have worried we were made to feel very welcome.The lady who owns the establishment and the waiters looked after us. They were very polite and efficient..We all ordered the fishcakes for starters but were told that there were none left Dee the owner came to see us and said that if we all wanted the same starter then she would prepare a mixed starter for us.It went down well with all four of us. For mains I had the fish pie , my husband had the fish and chips one friend had the hunters chicken and the other the T bone steak. we were all highly satisfied with the quality,cooking and presentation and the taste of these dishes.During the meal the staff were very attentive and pleasant.We all then managed to eat a dessert .There was a good choice and they were really delicious.We had a pleasant surprise when we paid the bill four starters, four mains and four desserts for £14.00 per head.We stayed there after our meal to watch the karaoke it was very good with some really good entertaining singers including Dee the owner, not only can this lady cook she can sing too.The atmosphere in the pub was buzzing and we had excellent evening. We will definitely go back for a meal and the Karaoke it was a brilliant birthday treat.I would recommend that anyone wanting a good entertaining night out and/or a great meal give this pub a try.

We have lived in Hatfield woodhouse for 16 years and had never been in the Blue Bell in the neighbouring village, Hatfield. Seeing the £6.99 bottle of wine poster outside in the summer, I thought I would venture to pastures new. The owner Dee made mum and me very welcome, we tried a Sunday dinner and knew we had found a gem. A lovely, genuine welcome from a great staff made me realise we would be coming many times in the future. I have popped in occasionally and eaten or had a pint and the blue bell is a great place to visit. We are thrilled to have the first 3 tickets for New Year's Eve party. I am coming as jack sparrow, fancy dress, should be fun. Glad we found you dee and phil, looking forward to seeing you soon - John and carol staveley

Friendly staff, lovely home cooked food with proper chips, went with friends as visiting the area we were all impressed staff couldn't do enough, would defiantly go again an recommend to anyone .

Really was a great meal for the price , hadn't been in this pub for a long time , just called in with some friends to eat somewhere different, we all had a great meal all priced well ,and all cooked great medium rare ribeye to a well done perfect all of them staff great would definitely recommend to any one . Called in on the off chance for a bite to eat. Had heard good reports from friends. had a full rack of ribs, reasonably priced at under £12 with all the trimmings, salad, veg and chips etc. absolutely stunning and excellent value. Dee and Phil are really trying hard to make a go of this little Oasis.Would thoroughly recommend this traditional Pub. there should be more Ale/Eating houses like this.Oh, and a bit of advise.............................they're trying their hardest here so if it's quiet or even empty when you arrive, don't turn away, give it a try, you will be pleased you did.

We have had Sunday lunch twice now at this pub restaurant and really enjoyed it on both occasions. The roast beef was gorgeous, so lean and tender and lots of nice vegetables.The service was really quick too. We have tried various carvery meals in other places and although we like the immediate availability, the food suffers as a result. The Blue Bell at Hatfield is the best of both worlds -good freshly made meals and very little waiting.
