Myself and partner has booked a table for 6.30 pm and when we arrived we told by young lady behind the bar our table was in the window. We sat down and after about 10 mins nobody came to see what drinks we required. My partner ordered them at the bar 🍸 we then waited another 10 mins or so and I went to bar and ordered food it was only then that tge young lady said she was on her own for the night so food had to be ordered at the bar. Nothing had been said previously! The item we requested steak and jail pie was not available so I ordered lasagne which was quite nice but not a lot of meat but padded out with peppers. My partner ordered beefburger and it was cremated nobody came to ask how food was only when he went to pay it was disgusting. Very dissapointed 4/10 total

Brilliant pub if you’re looking for traditional, delicious food right on the harbour. Visited with family and all throughly enjoyed our food. Steak and ale pie, fish and chips and plaice and prawns made up our order and it was excellent! If you’re looking for a traditional pub with great service, this is the one!

We were looking for a traditional pub for Sunday lunch and we’re happy to find the Blue Anchor near the Quay … we were greeted warmly by the gentleman behind the bar and told that they welcomed dogs and that they could find a table for 2 of us for lunch. The dining room was a little dark but it has low ceilings and lots of charm - we were told the ‘upper’ room was always booked well in advance. Lovely serving staff - very cheerful and nothing was too much trouble - we had the traditional roast lunch (pork & beef) and the portions were very generous and they were both absolutely delicious Prices very reasonable too We really enjoyed it and would definitely go back

Been here many times before , but after today will not visit again !! Me and husband got a drink on entering the pub for me himself and our older siblings . They left us at our table to go eleswhere . We ordered our food it took forever to come but it was edible . My husband fetched another drink from the bar and payed there and then . So only our 2 meals where on our final bill . On leaving my husband went to the bar to settle our bill and was querying the extra madri & a water ? Not ours i only had a cider . Our glasses where still on table . They wouldnt accept that we where telling the truth and insisted we had other drinks that we clearly did not have . Refusing to pay for something we hadnt had they reluctantly took the 2 drinks of our bill . Terrible customer service and very un professional ! Will not go in there again . Avoid much better places to eat & drink . Berry head hotel alberos or Prince william . Great service and we tip everytime !

3 adults, a 12 year old and a small baby (in a baby carrier so no pram etc) looking forward to watching a band here on a Sunday afternoon. Hung around in Brixham for four hours and planned the day to specifically watch them as we have seen them before and they are very good, only to be told when we entered the pub that ‘we don’t allow children in our pub.’ Could understand if the 12 year old was running around/being a moron but we literally went to a table and sat down. Confused as the first sentence on the website is ‘family friendly pub’ ??????????? So disappointed- what a rubbish experience and completely contradicting information.

Went for a fantastic Sunday lunch that was reasonably priced. The beer was good and staff were friendly and helpful (dark haired guy with a beard and an older man). There is a sign up saying no children but it’s targeted at children in pushchairs and high chairs which is understandable as there just isn’t room for them in this rustic pub (kids aren’t allowed in the bar area either but that’s pretty normal). As long as your child can be seated normally (my daughter is 4), you’ll be fine but if they misbehaved they contractually can be sold to pirates. We actually went back for the basket meals on another day.

We visited for Sunday lunch whilst staying in Brixham based solely on tripadvisor and reviews. It was quite possibly the best Sunday lunch we have had. Really generous portions, home made and expertly cooked. The prices are reasonable and the service was great too. Would 100% recommend to anyone and would love to come back for Sunday lunch in the future.

Managed to find two tables for lunch, which was lucky because its not a big pub once you are inside, just how a pub in a fishing harbour should be be. We ordered food and drink at the bar which was easy enough. The jail ale was a really good pint, so good i had two but the branding design on the glass was very scratched and looked a bit tatty, this doesn't effect the taste or quality but it's just something that niggles me when it happens. Food did take a while to come but we didn't mind, it just meant we could have another pint. When the food arrived it was well worth the wait, the fish and chips and the steak pie were obviously freshly cooked and the portion sizes were decent. Quality of food was very good and the steak in the pie just melted in your mouth.

We came along to the Blue Anchor to find the welcome frosty at best. We were told to sign in after being curtly asked had we already done it.We were then shown to a table to be told that due to bookings we would need to vacate within the hour which was understandable but may have been explained in a friendlier manner. After a few minutes the miserable waitress placed a reserved sign an our table and asked us what we wanted. We ordered coffees and hot chocolate. After our order was abruptly taken one of our group approached the bar and asked if we could have any snacks only to be told that we couldn’t as we hadn’t booked. After a short consideration we decided to leave and was then told we couldn’t as we had already ordered. When explained to the waitress that we had decided to leave due the their poor attitude we were faced with a barrage of excuses and attitude that really didn’t surprise us as that’s why we had decided to leave in the first place....If you want a warm welcome and some joy please avoid as they really don’t want your business....

Sent a very polite message to ask if outdoor dining was available on the weekend of 8th May, response was, we are closed until the 17th May, followed by ‘are you @@@@ing kidding me!’ And ‘ blatantly no @@@@‘s given’ So rude and uncalled for, for a business that probably relies on tourists. Shame on you for thinking that’s an acceptable way to speak to people. Speaks volumes, so I suggest you avoid at all costs and find a pub that actually wants customers and values them.

we decided to have a last minute Sunday lunch in Brixham today before the lockdown of the elderly! We first tried The Prince William but it was absolutely packed with an half hour wait for a table! We looked at a few more options, one not enough social distancing space, another £15 for a roast, one the glass door too marked with dirty finger marks so we went into The Blue Anchor. We were able to achieve our social distancing target in their dog free zone and enjoy an excellent value for money traditional Sunday Roast. Wow, succulent and generous portions of beef and pork, Yorkshire's on both although I wasn't expecting it with my pork but enjoyed it very much and it included a stuffing ball. All the vegetables were freshly cooked. We had some served on the plate and then an extra dish filled with more! Delicious gravy, and perfect roast potatoes. My Mother had enough left over (which they kindly packed up for her) to last her for the next week! But seriously there was loads. I highly recommend this pub for it's Sunday Lunch.

This time we came for dinner with two teenage children and it was awful. We walked in to a place filled with only men, who all looked and sounded beyond drunk. The landlord was the worst out of the lot and came over to our table and slurred some off colour joke about homosexuals and staggered on. We had already ordered so sat for our food which was straight from a freezer packet into a microwave and was inedible. An awful night, in a place filled with drunken & disrespectful men and a landlord from hell. I won’t be recommending this place to our guests ever again. Badly done Blue Anchor.

I love the atmosphere in the blue anchor. I have been a regular in this pub for at least 5 years. Lately over the last year a clique has developed . It seems that some privileged people have a bottle behind the bar that is not for sale to anyone else. Special gins and brandy’s that are displayed and not for sale. Is this a pub or a private club?I thought it was a pub but the landlord has become over confident and turns away business. Hey ho we still have the pub. But what is for sale and what is by special arrangement?

Nice genuine pub. Good food , friendly staff and some where to meet and talk with locals and fellow tourists. Very dog friendly all the staff loved our Wolfy boy and we felt very welcome.Musics evenings are great, small and cosy, people dancing, haven’t experienced this sort of atmosphere since a stay in Ennis in Ireland. Thanks to the landlord who was always helpful and Jesse who looked after us

We enjoyed a pleasant lunch here. The service was a bit slow but the food was hot and tasty when it arrived. The staff were friendly. As mentioned elsewhere, very much a local pub which is a good thing.

Great live music playing. Stinking atmosphere on a Sunday night and great bar selection. Slightly away from the main high street so fractionally fewer tourists and more locals.

Good real ale, food and hospitable staff.. It’s fairly obviously very much a local pub and the locals too were very friendly. Recommended.

We went here for lunch following a 5 mile walk along the cliffs. There was limited seating available as the pub is clearly very popular, but the boss sorted us out pretty quickly and we had a few drinks before our basket lunches. The food was excellent for bar-snack fare and we plan to go back to try the full menu. The staff were attentive and pleasant too, with the female staff bringing our dog a few biscuits and then keeping him occupied while we settled into eating our lunch. The Real Aled was also excellent, which is a sure sign that care is being taken.

Only had drinks in the Blue Anchor as it's a very busy pub. The menu looks good which is probably why so many people visit. Staff were good and always happy.

We stopped here for lunch on a day out with our parents, so glad we did. A proper pub with great food! Staff and customers very friendly, good selection of drinks, great recommendation from staff for a cider! Menu is a mixture of full meals and basket meals, good value all round. Loved the atmosphere in here and will certainly be back.

First day of our visit to Brixham we decided to pop in here for tea. We weren't disappointed. Friendly staff & customers. Great beer and food - all just off the quay side. Good prices too for tasty, hot and home cooked food. Weren't sure from outside but glad we went inside! Mind your head, though!

The most friendly place to eat with teenagers and a dog. We stopped for lunch/drinks during the school holidays, it’s a very quaint little pub, great for a pub lunch with friendly staff. They are so accommodating with dogs and even have a box of ‘doggie snacks’ behind the bar that the staff feed to your four legged family members. If it’s a fuss free lunch you’re after then this is the place.

What more could you want. Cracking selection of beers and good food at prices that makes a tight fisted Lancastrian like me very happy. Great company and great times. Proper Pub.

Just off the quay side. Its been here a long time and every inch says so. It became our local for the week. Friendly staff, chatty locals, in fact this is very much a local and has an atmosphere to match. Not the biggest selection of beers but adequate. Always managed to get a table. Reasonable prices. I think its what you want in a Devon harbourside pub. A fellow guest at our hotel ate in here every night so on his recommendation I ticked the box.

Didn't eat here but was a good place for a drink or 2 before retiring to bed. Lots of friendly customers to chat to and both dogs were welcome. Seemed a bit livelier than other pubs at this time of night 10pm.

We were on an overnight stay and looking for a place to eat. We popped in on the off chance. Staff were very friendly and were able to accommodate us. My husband had the scallops starter and would highly recommend. I had the pate which was very nice. The prawn Thai curry was very nice. Would recommend but advise you book

This hotel has always been a convenient choice for local business Xmas lunches and dinners. Although there is nothing to critisize about the food , I had a very unpleasant encounter at the front desk today . I just finished one Xmas lunch today and I am due to return for another Xmas party on this Saturday with my dance group , I forgot to book the Xmas set dinner for my husband who is disabled thinking that he might not want to join in. Last minute he said he would like a night out to have a bit of fun and company . So I asked the front desk lady if I could order food from the a la carte menu and he could sit with us and be served the food that he has chosen . I said I would pay for that dish today in advance . She said the food cost £23 but she wants the balance of the money ( the hotel charges for the set Xmas menu £37) to be paid too ! I said what , even without eating the Xmas dinner , and less the starter and dessert ? She said yes of course , because he would have the benefit of listening to the music !!!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked ! Wow , what a mean spirited place ! This is after our group of 40 just had lunch , and there will be another 40 -50 to come on Saturday! They have absolutely couldn’t see how money grabbing this attitude is ..! It of course doesn’t make business sense , as it means they would rather lose another customer’s business and create a horrible bad taste and bad will . The fact that they have loads of business this time of the year make them so mean spirited , complacent and arrogant ! Reverend Lyte who used to live there. He advocated humanity , warmth and community spirit and love . He wouldn’t have approved of this lack of human warmth , common sense and greed culture !

Came away bitterly disappointed. This was to be a 'milestone ' birthday treat. We were looking forward to a beautiful afternoon tea with a table covered with a crisp, white tablecloth, laidened with delicious teatime treats overlooking Torbay. The experience was nothing like we had hoped for. No one to meet and greet us upon arrival. We were initially ignored then directed, not shown, to a cracked brown formica table 'set' for us with two paper napkins, knives and forks and two glass tumblers, in a corner, away from the main dining area and the window. Eventually, we were approached by Heidi, whom we assumed to be restaurant manager. We asked to be reseated and a table was cleared for us. We were served a pot of tea for two and awaited our food. An hour later, we were still waiting. During that time we witnessed several disgruntled customers complaining. Although there were three waiters present, we did not receive any service or attention from them. After an hour, Heidi reappeared and was very apologetic. She offered us a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Our booking had been for 3pm. By now it was 4.30. The food arrived and like the tea table, was nothing like we were led to expect. The sandwiches were not as described on the menu. Some of the fillings were spread so thinly that they were difficult to identify. The pastries were missing. The cakes were not the patisserie style fancies shown in the promotional pictures, but more like traybakes cut into different sized chunks and didn't seem particularly fresh. Our teapot was refreshed and we were given new cups and "saucers", which turned out to be side plates. Heidi did try to make us comfortable, but by that time, all hope of enjoying our afternoon was lost. We did ask a waiter for a box to take our cakes away but were told "We don't do boxes" and we're directed to a pile of paper napkins and told to help ourselves. The three saving graces are; At £25, it wasn't the most expensive afternoon tea. I would have paid more for a first class experience. Heidi did her best to keep customers happy, with what appeared to be very little support from her colleagues. Whatever the Imperial are paying her, it's not enough. The one thing that the hotel did deliver on was the magnificent view, but I give the Imperial no credit for that whatsoever. Lastly, I sent an email to the Imperial later that day, and to add insult to injury, now, almost a week later, have had no response. NB. Pictured - what the Imperial's advertising led us to expect. NOT what we got !
