A lovely evening. Welcoming hosts, good selection of drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) including their own brand gins. Went for a meal but would have just as good to just go for a drink. Proper pub grub - nothing fancy but well cooked and presented. Pub itself is charming

Couldn't fault the service. Firstly went to have a lager that I've not had before and was offered "a try", no need though as lager was great. Menu was not a massive choice but good for us, however landlord/chef offered is some ribeye, chips and salad, a lager and half an ale for a great price. Sat in bar at lunch time, great little pub. Remember hospitality without customers mean the buildings end up as converted houses, then people complain the village has nothing , so support the local pubs. Nice seperate restaurant area, large gardens and big car park too

I’m afraid that my in-laws and children went to The Blowing Stone for lunch today and were totally disappointed with their food. One of my children even said that Grandpa had said that he may come back when he needed his shoes resoling as the lamb was tough enough to put on his shoes…. Very disappointing as it used to be such a great place to eat

Decided to give the Blowing Stone a go, haven't been since the new owners took over - what a treat. Fairly standard pub food but done really well! Had the fish and chips and the fish was superb, best I have had in a long time. Portions are generous and the welcome is very friendly. Very glad we did it and we will definitely return. All this and reasonable prices too!

Birthday meal at The blowing Stone Inn with friends was excellent! Becky and Russell went above and beyond to make our evening special. Our food came out quickly despite the pub being quite busy and catered to all our requests, food is always good and they cater for dietary requirements. I really like how the pub has different areas depending on what sort of atmosphere you want. They have the lovely restaurant area in the conservatory, garden, quiet small lounge, ‘The Snug’ with cosy sofas by the fire or the busier bar area and lots of games to play in the game bookshelf! The pub has lots of events on; The QUIZ! Comedy nights, music events, Sunday roasts, sporting events being shown with delicious ‘Build a burger’ deals! And so much more to cater to all the family! It does get busy on Fridays so recommend booking in advance if you’re looking to eat or book in a special meal. The perfect country pub and dog friendly for a lovely evening with lovely locals which makes it feel very homely and everyone is always welcoming . Russell and Becky are such compassionate and kind people it really shows and are always willing to take on ideas and the needs and wants of their customers old and new, Thankyou :)

I visited the Blowing Stone Inn as part of a large group. The location is very pleasant. We had supplied our menu choices in advance of our visit. The pub was understaffed and we waited one hour forty minutes for the main courses to arrive. The food was OK when it arrived. The experience was not a good one. I couldn't recommend this venue for large groups.

A lovely pub find while cycling around the vale of the white horse. The lunch was scrumptious and I cannot fault it. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the halloumi burger was nom nom! To top it off, we shared an indulgent sticky toffee pudding.. I can say that we cleaned the plates! Beyond the food, the atmosphere was cosy, friendly and being dog owners we were happy to see that dogs are welcome too! We will be back, next time with our furry friend. On the way back from a trio gig at a festival, I looked for the closest pub that was en route because our driver wanted somewhere nice to eat before completing the rest of the drive to Newcastle. Its Google Maps tagline described it as a laid back pub. It seemed more like it was trying to be an upmarket wedding venue. We walked in, dressed in normal summer/festival clothes, and were scowled at by some older men in their Sunday best. That's understandable--there's nothing wrong with being a bit alarmed by an unusual kind of patron.A waitress told us we were okay to take a seat and ponder over food. We weren't boisterous. We chose to sit down a little bit out of the way. The manager then showed up, looked us up and down and said "it's quite busy today and we don't want to put any more pressure on the staff, so we can't serve you food. Oh but you're alright to sit here if you like." We left.It was Sunday noon, but the place didn't seem rammed and a believable sentence might have resembled, "if you haven't reserved a table, you might have to wait a bit for food if that's okay." To be flat-out told that we couldn't be served, unapologetically, felt like a massive snub and the three of us felt pretty insulted on the way out. Then, guess what? We found a Wetherspoons and were served a decent lunch like human beings.Tell you what: if you want to make it a local bistro for local people, don't put signs on a B road to draw in any old passers-by.

Having read some of the reviews we thought we would give this place a try and wished we hadn't. The pictures online are very flattering to what is a rather tired, modern pub particularly the boarded up windows at the front, and the food was pretty poor. Restaurant was not very busy, which was surprising as the food was superb, although pricey. £28 for fillet steak was a little on the high side in my opinion. Quality was exceptional though. My only criticism of the Blowing Stone was unfortunately, that the snug that we were seated in, became unbearably hot... all the radiators were on full blast, as well as the log burner fully blazing, it became quite uncomfortable by the time we made it to dessert.

We’ve been thinking about having lunch here for a while since the place was sold a while ago and encouraged by the decent reviews we headed off for Sunday Lunch. From the car part great smells of BBQ met us and as we walked past the new outdoor cook area the roasted beef and pork belly looked great. Bar service was good and staff attentive, all off to a good start. The set Sunday Lunch menu has 3 platter options for starter, all at £16 each, a choice of fish, meat or veggie. We got a meat and fish to share but it did seem a fairly odd set of starters, not sure what happens if you are a couple and one eats meat and the other is vegetarian. Kids menu has mini roast, fish and chips or chicken goujons, nice to see rather than sausage and beans.

I rang to book a couple of hours before we wanted to eat and asked if the choices on the online menu were what they were serving on the night. No they said a lot of changes. When we sat down saw the menu we were surprised to see most of the dishes we had not favoured were still listed. My wife is gluten free so that limited her choice to a double starter salad. When it arrived it was full of CROUTONS, so was contaminated. My veal escalope was overdone (also my only option). The rose wine needed ice. The chef was a bit apologetic but explained that he was catering for 150 the next day. Not my problem I thought! It was not the sort of experience we expected at the Blower and it did not enhance our wedding anniversary treat. Next time we want to celebrate we will return to the Bear.

We made a great deviation off our trail to enjoy lunch here. We felt very welcome and found it very hard to choose from the range of delicious sandwich options . It is obviously a clean and well run pub

I was recommended this pub by someone locally who has visited a few times and thought I would like it! I had not booked, a last minute decision as I was in Wantage. Talking to the Manager we quickly established one of the local racing yards were there celebrating their win at Cheltenham. It was certainly busy, perhaps a little too loud at times but people were enjoying themselves and atmosphere was brilliant. We were offered a drink at the bar and it wasn’t long before we were seated and we were informed it was Steak Night.

We read the reviews on TripAdvisor and were looking forward to having dinner. The welcome was friendly and the waitress was good. The starters were nicely presented although the pears on the crispy quail egg starter were a little bland. My partner had the lamb for his main course which looked and, he said tasted stunning, I unfortunately had fish and chips, the chips were disgusting cheap frozen chips, the fish was low quality frozen, the mushy peas were most likely out of a tin. Probably the worst fish and chips I've ever tasted, at £14 shame on you. Home made chips and a good fresh cod loin in a lovely home made beer batter, freshly made crushed peas and freshly made tartare sauce is not rocket science and should have been what was served. We definitely will not be eating here again.

I came here in October, the food was so good we couldn't wait to plan our next trip to re-visit. Sadly the second trip was so bad. The food was awful, it was so disappointing. Over cooked pork in the burger it was so dry and inedible, burnt bun. The service was slow and rude. We avoided pudding as it just wasn't worth it. Avoid. plenty of great pubs in the area this isn't one of them sadly.

Just home after a lovely meal. Staff were attentive and it was a most enjoyable atmosphere. We were particularly taken with Minnie Moo She is adorable and, if you do breed from her then we would love to have one of her off spring. Please keep us in mind. Thank you. Lucy Cooper x

Yet another fantastic meal at The Punchbowl. I went for the Mushroom Bourgnignonne Pie on this occasion which was wonderfully warming on a wet and somewhat miserable day. Yum, yum!

We had a delicious Afternoon Tea at The Grocer Chef today. A lovely selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

Can't fault the service and the food was exceptional. The size of the portions incredible. Not sure we needed the starters. The plates on tables around us just looked amazing. Well done all.
