The Blaze Restaurant & Bar in Chelmsford

A group of us arrived unexpected at lunchtime while spending a day walking cricket at the county ground. We got a friendly greeting and were well looked after by staff with quick and friendly service and everyone enjoyed their food. 7/10

It was just O.K. The service was not bad but we had to wait for water. The food was particularly average. I will not be returning.

AsI said in the title I thought that this place was not particularly good and not particularly bad - just average. The male waiter lacked any charm and the female's english was not great. The food was okay but lacked freshness. The place is pleasant - but not good enough to make up for the very average service and food. I wont be back any time soon as there are much better Med restaurants in Chelmsford.

I used to always use them for a takeaway but no more…. Had some missing items so phoned them and they offered to bring them but I explained how everything else would Be cold by then and they didn’t seem to care. Manager in the background called me something obscene in Turkish (he didn’t know I understood Turkish!) so they have lost a customer now!

My wife placed the order from The Blaze restaurant and before she placed the order she asked does chicken Beyti comes with bread and sauce or not. Someone from restaurant said it does and we placed the order.after placed the order someone called and said it t doesn’t come sauce and bread but when I said before we placed the order we asked and someone said it does come so why you saying it doesn’t then he said we said as a example however this time we will give but next time be careful. We appreciate although the way he said like he giving us free. After we got the good we didn’t get any sauce with bread at all also with chicken wings. When I called the staff was so rude and the way talked like he gave me free and said I told u it doesn’t come and you should appreciate we gave u bread and my wife said we appreciate but he said now eat it so rudely when I said why u first told us u will give everything now you showing ur attitude doesn’t know how to speak with customers? He called me idiot and used F words n hanged the call. I tried call back but didn’t pick up the call. My whole point is it’s just sauce and bread if it doesn’t come tell truth no need to lie and show attitude and talk rudely with customers just for bloody sauce and bread. Very disappointed didn’t expect that type of behaviour at all. Next time we won’t order from there or go for dinning too.

Horrible experience. The food was terribly dry, the staff’s attitude was bad, the food smelt very sickening, as if the food was made yesterday and they just warmed it up and gave it to us. Plus, the food came cold not even a little bit warm. Disgusting restaurant I do not recommend for people to go to this atrocious restaurant.

Had a lovely meal with my wife and mother in law here, food and drinks were superb. My mother in law has mobility issues and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Prompt and friendly service too, only the second time I’ve been here but will definitely return. Thanks!

Delicious food with a great selection and outstanding service - nothing was too much trouble - really above and beyond - already looking forward to my next visit.

We went here with friends and had a lovely meal. The food was lovely hot and tasty, the waiter was friendly and helpful. We would definitely use this restaurant again, thanks to all of the staff.

We enjoyed this place thoroughly. We were there on the 29 March Megs Birthday Lunch.

Food was very nice although my main meal was a small portion for the price (18 pounds,) service was efficient not particularly smiley but I didn't come to chat. Would recommend. I eat in London (Kurvan in wood green) a lot so was good for Essex They might want to look at the prices of their mains as they are more expensive than London. Although the start ers were good for the price.just needs a little more oomph !

The restaurant is nice and cosy. However, in my opinion, the food could be improved, just lacking that extra Turkish kick. Service was okay, and the waitress was polite and friendly. I would defenetly go back? Maybe yes, but without excessive enthusiasm😊

Wow! The worse takeaway i have categorically had in my 43 years! From the start; the bread had a homely smell... From there it gets horrendous. The bread was dry and over-baked, the olives were older than me and shrivelled. Lets get to the seafood, dry, probably cooked more than triple cooked chips and smelled of ammonia, watery sauce and generally disgusting. The halloumi and sausage was evidently grotesque on appearance and on tasting it was worse; clearly both deep fried and flavourless. Finally the meatballs in the insipid sauce, laughably a tomato sauce, were a processed ball of yuck! I would rather eat a richmond sausage! I will never order or eat at this restaurant ever and most definitely never recommend. Please avoid!

Huge menu choice, lamb was delicious, we all had a different lamb dish which were all great and very tender. Service was really good, very attentive. Prices ok.

Food and atmosphere was good but waiter very unfriendly, never came over to ask if meal was ok and had to call him over to ask for more drinks which was a shame - would not go back for that reason

Food was bang average, not awful but not great. For the price was expecting something a bit tastier - was 22 quid for a lamb kebab main! Was also pretty dead inside on a Saturday night too. Can't imagine we'll be returning.

It’s a Saturday night a couple of weeks before Christmas so we knew it would be busy but that did not affect our dining experience. The service was prompt and the food was just fantastic. With so many restaurants to choose from it’s hard to stand out but as Turkish restaurants go this one is very good. Well recommended.

This place has been around for some time now. I keep saying we must go in but never getting there. I'm so glad we did! There was a nice chilled but very nice atmosphere, the staff were top notch, and the food was amazing. I can't recommend Blaze enough! Just go see for yourself!

So disappointed with my visit today. Went under recommendations online and I left feeling gutted after shelling out nearly £100 for lunch. The mixed shish was described as a skewer of each meat, when it came over I had 4 tiny cubes of meat. It wasn’t even half of a skewer let alone two! When I saw how tiny the portions were (after seeing some reviews that portions are big) I decided I best order a portion of chips between the 4 of us (myself and my 12 year and two 15 year olds) It came over and was the smallest little portion of fries £3.00. I appreciate the cost of living has gone up but it’s not right to overcharge for such tiny portions. We paid a service charge of £8.99 even though the service wasn’t very good, waiter wasn’t friendly at all. It was only us and another table there for lunch so it wasn’t busy enough for them to not make the effort. Didn’t feel welcome. I’m gutted that I splashed out for my sons birthday and left feeling deflated that I’d wasted money I didn’t have but wanted him to enjoy his birthday so saved up for this occasion. See photos below baring in my this was my daughters plate who actually had the biggest pieces of meat out of all of us, and still tiny as you can see. I will not be returning.

Absolutely delightful lunch experience! Incredible value for the 2-course lunch menu at just £13.90. The Sucuk, Patlican Soslu, Sigara Boregi, and Hellim starters were an absolute treat. The Lamb Shish Kebab was perfectly succulent, and the Adana Kofte was also great. Already planning my next visit for the Lamb Beyti. For larger groups, the Blaze Special and Blaze Family Special are tempting with their lamb chops included which have been recommended to try. Don't miss the Turkish tea and homemade Baklava, plus the adorable ice cream characters for the little ones. Efes on draft sealed the deal. A classic touch of Turkish hospitality and decent Turkish music made the experience even more memorable. Already looking forward to the next visit!

Lovely restaurant with great food and a good atmosphere . The waiters are very friendly and helpful.

This was a takeaway. The food is delicious and the amount is impressive. There are good vegetarian options so suitable for all in the family. Just one thing to note it is best to order directly from the restaurant DO NOT order through Just Eat as the food didn’t arrive and they are difficult to contact I paid for the undelivered takeaway and then the food from the restaurant and haven’t had any confirmation from Just Eat that I will get a refund I could have had an excellent meal in central London for £100, but hopefully I will eventually get my refund! I repeat use Just Eat at your own risk and I would not advise, despite having done so many times. If they were easier to contact I’d say risk it but it is quite hopeless when you haven’t got your food and cannot contact the company.

Nice food however main dishes have way too much rice and couscous and not enough meat. I ordered the mixed kebab. It was tasty but Kofte had some small bone particles in it. Salad and olives where great. Shame you cant just order the skewers and just add a small rice to it!

A walk in for 2 and was seated straight away...Absolutely brilliant, amazing service and food was out of this world. Will definitely be coming back, and i can't wait if I'm honest. Thank you guys, keep up the good work

We had the lunch menu which was excellent value and also very tasty. We all enjoyed the delicious food and the very good service provided. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant - it is such a rarity in Chelmsford to have a decent meal!

If you like really really salty food eat here. They presented my dish, and I refused it (first time ever in 100s... I used to travel internationally so maybe even a 1000 restaurants). To their credit they got me something else to be cooked without chef adding salt. That turned up...very salty (not as bad as dish 1) but I didn't eat that either. My partner has already eaten, so we were out of synch. Not a very romantic evening TBH and not cheap. Yes they charged me...and I understand they have to make their money. But waaay too much salt for me. Truly ruined, what looked fantastic food.

Regularly order from here, food is amazing, portions are big so we always have more for lunch the next day! Brilliant!

Fantastic experience. Food was delicious and you could tell a lot of care went into it! The Sucuk (starter) and Guvec (main) - which is essentially a Turkish chicken casserole - I would definitely recommend. These were well priced considering the quality and generous portion sizes. We went as a party of 11 with varying ages and the staff did very well to accommodate for us so well. The interior and décor of the place is very pleasing on the eye and definitely adds to the experience!

Waitress wasn’t very pleasant- huffed when we asked for more time to choose food. Wiped table with serviette then wiped other placing with same one- still covered in red sauce. Had to ask for it to be cleaned properly so didn’t get it on clothes. Didn’t dry it Starter floating in oil - fish casserole and not much fish main (chicken and mushroom sauté) tasted like a tin of tomatoes. Hollumi was lovey tho and Sea Bream was too

We recently had a birthday meal for 10 people. Food is absolutely amazing and has huge portions ! Staff were a bit rushed off their feet, so at times we were left waiting for a while for drinks, etc . And it was a bit noisy, we couldn't hear each other too well while chatting . But other than that the restaurant was fab , they made a huge effort singing happy birthday to my daughter , and bought her out a cake . They are a fantastic restaurant and I do highly recommend them :)

Second time I have been here, this visit we were very disappointed, we arrived and was fairly empty, the waiter took our drink order but then forgot to bring them over. The restaurant started getting busy, the main course was lovely. However we were not asked if we wanted another drink, there was a huge crowd that came in and there were no waiters spare. I ordered a crème brûlée , omg it was microwaved and soggy top, I did not eat it and I did mention this to the waiter eventually, it was removed from bill. Would go back but on a quieter night as I feel there was not enough staff

Nice place, we were overshadowed by a large party so service to our table wasa little lacking. Nice food, nothing special.

Called in on for a midweek lunch. Decor is very nice, had the lunchtime set menu which represented good value for 2 courses @ £13.80. I had the spicy sausage to start followed by the chicken beyti which was accompanied with rice and salad. Meal was very good with my only gripe being the chicken was a little dry. Would definitely return and will remain a good lunchtime option.

Eaten in a few times now over the years. some times as a couple, sometimes as a family, week nights & weekends. Sometimes we just pop in for a takeaway. Never disappointed by the tasty food or friendly staff. Lovely clean and spacious restaurant to enjoy a meal in. Authentic flavours and dishes.

Great Turkish restaurant. Service and food is first class.

Not only is the food 11/10, but the service is second to none. We ordered the lamb chops and ribs which were some of the best I've eaten locally. Also we asked for a slight dish change and that was accommodated with no problem. The staff are very welcoming and serve with grace, they can't do enough for you. Our waiter was Yusuf and he was the perfect host. If you live in Chelmsford and have not tried this place, get booking and if you live further out, book a cab and get to Blaze for a great night.

Had our work's Christmas dinner here. 17 of us altogether. Superb food and excellent service from helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Very disappointed. Rude waiter made us feel very uncomfortable. Would have spent much more but just wanted to finish up and get out of there. Wouldn't go back.

Service was bad. Our waiter was extremely rude. three of our party of twelve where late. I explained they where stuck in traffic and where coming, (just running late) but that wasn't good enough, The guests that where there ordered food, as we felt pressured to hurry. Staff also broke up our table as they where concerned they would miss out on other custom. (clearly didn't believe the other guest where about to arrive) we had paid £10 a head deposit for the table. Food was okay nothing amazing, just another standard Turkish and the alcohol was watered down. Wouldn't bother going back.

Been there few times, usual turkish food but tonight i was very disappointed with our food, Ordered a mix platter but some of the meat stank very bad, it was OFF but they still served it to us, called the waiter told him to take off my plate as the meat was stinking, none of the waiters or the manager didnt even apologise, Will never go back,

We pre-booked weeks ago and had been in contact with them on day of booking as well but they said it wasn't them we had made booking with or contacted on the day so bit of confusion there as someone in there restaurant had been emailing me but it all went great in the end

The lamb shish was fine, chicken wings great but seafood casserole very little taste. Starters were good, wine (pinot grigio) pretty dire for £19.99 - husband should have tried it instead of saying just pour it. Overall not too impressed but maybe a la carte is better, we had the fixed lunch menu.

Amazing food! Me and my partner shared the plaza special and thoroughly enjoyed it. Could not pick out our favourite... possibly the wings but it was all so good! Really friendly staff, welcoming and attentive.

We have been there for evening meals, and it was great. However, this time we went for the lunch time set menu. What the don't tell you is its a cheaper price, as for some dishes the portions are half the size. My son had lamb shish and just got 3 or 4 chunks of lamb. £12.95 for 2 courses. With 4 of us, including 3 soft drinks and 1 lager shandy, the bill came to £74 odd which included a £6.70 odd service charge. So would definitely not recommend the lunch time deal, small portions and pricy drinks, pricy lunch.

Visited here last weekend for the 1st time. Nice table by the window, food very nice chilli sauce exceptional had a great kick. I had salmon, very large portion size and tasted great. All in all a very nice meal! Reason for not 5 star...

Have been to Blaze a few times now and each time it gets better. The staff are very attentive and the food is amazing.

Delicious food, amazing staff, beautiful interior! The lunch deal is a bargain: £12 for one starter and one main (choose from a list), plus bread, olives and two dips. Free Turkish delight when the bill comes too! They're also great with children, and there's a short children's menu.
