Visited for the Wednesday special menu. Great food and service all at an excellent price.

Thought would get some lunch ,, we ordered 1 carbonara which was extremely oily,, then ordered the rump steak ,,,, which was like chewing on a old boot ,, spoke too a manger then was told that had we had mentioned when we where asked , ( is your food alright ) something would have been done , but wasn’t asked after if being served it ,,, Half of food wasted on both plates where left ,,, manger said would resolve the problem then never came back ,, Deserts where ok ,,,, but mains where horrid , bill came to £63 and half of it was left ,, and the old leather boot steak was taken home for the dog ,,,,, that even struggled too chew it , Also waitress was so miserable ,,, wouldn’t recommend. Fox and raven chelmsford chelmer village is a must ,,,, far superior restaurant. ,

Me and my family went in for a roast today and it was lovely! We were served by lucy-anne whose service was second to none, nothing was too much and always checked on us. Will be recommending this to our family and friends.

Visited here after feeling let down by two previous establishments. Luckily managed to get a table for 8:15 and the service was fantastic from the get go. It was really busy when we arrived but we were welcomed with a friendly smile and the member of staff was really polite. Choice of where we’d like to sit. Order for food and drinks were taken and delivered within very good time, food was delicious - I had the lamp rump with spring onion mash, 3 pieces of rump - wow! All the staff were rallying round supporting each other, everywhere was clean and all the staff looked immaculate. Overall a really well run restaurant - how it should be. Used a voucher that I was sent through as a club member so an even better add on to a lovely meal 🙂 Thank you!

Popped in for a couple of drinks and decided to try out the roast. It was lovely, great food and service from Lucy-anne. Will be coming back here in the future.

Good welcome, engaging staff, food good, good atmosphere to have a family get together. You’re not rushed during the meal. Good attention by staff. Been there a few times with family and friends always a good experience.

They have a good selection of kids food which is one of the main reasons we went as not many places do anymore. The service was great our waitress lucy-anne made sure our children's meals arrived as soon as possible. (Great help when you have hungry children) adults all had pizzas which were lovely. All round great lunch experience

Lovely food and great service from our waitress Paulina, excellent! Always a good atmosphere and never rushed. The menu has a great range, something for everyone and well priced. I had a free 3 course meal for my birthday. This restaurant does excellent deals so well worth signing up with them.

Friends visiting from Norfolk wanted to meet for lunch. Everyone enjoyed the meal ,atmosphere ,service and general feeling of relaxation over a 2 hour + time .

Lovely decor, friendly staff and food was exceptional. Good value for money. Only negative was the noise volume but to be expected clearly a popular venue and was very busy.

Usually really good but today was awful. It was a surprise dinner for my sons 18th Birthday. Staff kept us waiting at door even though they knew it was a surprise so my son spotted friends at table. Sone staff were really good, others were rude and very unhelpful. Then when I got home and checked bill they hadn't taken off £100 deposit I'd paid. Still waiting for that to go back on card.

Took My Son & Granddaughter there on Sunday 7th April, Hanging Meat Kebab was Lacking in Meat, My Fillitt was on the Small side, but Tasty, Worse of All was My Granddaughter Chicken Dippers, Tough and Over Cooked, She Only ate Half of 1 of them, And as for the Skin on Frys, Nobody Enjoyed those, All in all, Expensive for What we had £122. Staff were friendly and Running around.....

Was not impressed with the service this is the first time ever I have ordered a bottle of wine in a restaurant only to have it opened and left on my table Waitress didn’t pour or indeed ask if it was okay just confirmed we ordered a bottle of red which was unceremoniously”dumped “ on the table with 2 glasses.

Sadly the quality of food at Ego's is going downhill i.e. in the wrong direction. Something needs to be done about the food leaving the kitchen. The staff are doing their best but are being let down by the kitchen. Senior management needs to intervene...

Great food and excellent service as always. Fabulous place to go. We change our plans and brought the dog with us. This was no problem, we were moved to a dog friendly area. Nothing is ever to much trouble.

Afternoon tea. Great arrival feeling and our requirements were deal with well especially as cheese was an allergy. The sandwiches on brown bread were disappointing the bread was stale but the filings were tasty. The scones were rather small but tasty. The cakes were flimsy...

Just really great food and amazing staff. Worth every penny. Standouts for our group were the chicken kebab and Sunday roasts. My daughter was too ill to come so they boxed up takeaway for her and my wife. A wonderful place.

My sister and I took our brother for a celebrational birthday meal, the meals were very good and well prepared, downside was I had to ask twice for my drink. Other than that a good afternoon.

First time visit for a Sunday Roast. Not sure what to expect but it was completely full when we arrived with a nice atmosphere. Food was really good, not the best Roast I’ve had in Essex but the beef was tender, veg was good and it was a large portion. Sides are a little pricy £5ish for what you get but overall can’t complain. Desserts were decent too. Looking forward to returning to try their other menus.

Came here as I'd read it had changed hands, and sounded good. I've since spoke to a friend who recommended the kebabs. I had the peri peri chicken and chorizo kebab, it was presented really lovely, and tasted just as good. My friend had the Minted lamb, which menu said got served pink, it didn't and was slightly chewy, but was still really tasty. Prices weren't to bad, if you book online, you may get a discount, which always makes the food taste better!!

Our first time as we were in the area for a friend’s function. The ambience was friendly, buzzing but relaxed. The manager and staff were genuinely and naturally friendly and welcoming. The food was good. No complaints whatsoever.

First visit here. Came for their Sunday roast. Food was really good. Really enjoyed it. The place is lovely, nice atmosphere and decor. It was busy, which I see as a good sign, but there were plenty of friendly attentive staff. Eton mess and apple pie deserts were fantastic.

By far my favourite restaurant in / around Chelmsford. Excellent gluten free options with lots of choice. Excellent quality food. Highly recommended.

We had afternoon tea at Ego at The Running Mare. It was delicious. The staff were so nice & friendly despite having to cope with a new till system. We didn't feel rushed & would definitely return.

I had an email for half price off the a la carte menu, all at our table enjoyed their meal. The restaurant is light and airy and clean. Plenty of parking attached to the restaurant and lots of outside seating for when the weather is better.

We love Ego. We've been many times as a couple and also with family. The food is always good, staff friendly and atmosphere relaxed and welcoming.

The lunch was covered by a 50% discount on our main course which meant that the restaurant was very busy However the service was excellent and the food very good. We have eaten there on several occasions and have never been disappointed

I am a regular Monday visitor these days and I enjoy the Ego very much The food is varied and excellent and the service is generally polite and friendly. However this week I did encounter an old problem when arriving. I stood waiting to be shown to my table for over 10 minutes while the staff were scurrying around clearing tables and either ignored me or looked straight through me. Okay they had a big party in but they had practically finished their meal. It is a minor point and I must stress did not diminish my enjoyment, but It would have been appreciated If at least somebody could take 5 seconds to just say excuse me sir we'll be with you in a moment.

The food is a variety of different countries menus which are visible on their website. Therefore, it is easy to choose exactly what you would like at that time. I am choosy and this suits me well!

We had a few great meals at Ego since the new management, however last weekend wasn't a great experience. On arrival, the floor manager seemed very grumpy, stressed and the atmosphere seemed quite chaotic even though the tables weren't full. It took a long time to order drinks and food both taking longer than usual to arrive. After our meals, it felt like we were forgotten about and it took a while to get anyone's attention to order more drinks and get the bill. The food was ok but like I said before not as brilliant as it was when it first reopened.

We came here previously and it was very good. However tonight we decided to return. The starters were fantastic. However the mains are where it went downhill. One of us had the hanging kebab which looked amazing… but it was so overcooked and dry as a bone that it wasn’t really enjoyable. I had the beef bourguignon which was lovely… but there was only half a plate of it including the mash… For a £20 main I’d expect a better portion. Didn’t complain as I know times are tough on restaurants at the moment but almost stopped for more food on the way home. Pity as the service and staff a great and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
