We visited as a walking group for Sunday lunch. There was 19 of us so we preordered a few days before arrival. The staff were friendly and saw us to our table, 1 x 6 seater and another that would seat 14. After we were all seated and had a drink the waitress asked if we were ready to eat? Yes we said, and within a matter of minutes the food started to arrive. Before long we all had a delicious meal in front of us. Every plate was completely empty as the food was superb and the quantity was also spot on. I’d highly recommend the Blacksmiths to anyone wanting a hearty Sunday lunch.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Food excellent. Service slow, and I had to leave the table to go to the bar to place our order; someone eventually came to take our order some five later. Tables and placemats sticky - both need a good wash! Sauce bottles could do with wiping. Having said all that, it is a nice pub with good food. It is just let down somewhat by sloppy attention to hygiene.

Lovely setting and good atmosphere but poor service. We waited 40 mins for sandwiches before requesting a refund. Bar staff said it wasn’t their fault and blamed the kitchen. I have been here on several occasions in the past and had a good experience so assume they were having a bad day or are under new management.

Good choice of dishes on the menu. There were three of us; we had the steak, the scampi and the butterfly prawns. All were delicious. The plates were hot and the presentation was good. Dessert was lemon meringue pie with ice cream. The ice cream in particular was lovely. The lady who served us was very nice.

Booked in for Easter Sunday Lunch at midday. Arrived early and pub wasn’t open so sat in the outside smoking area I was appalled to find that it was absolutely filthy .Ashtrays had been left unempted and other receptacles were overfilled with cigarette ends and empty wine bottles, The fireplace had not been cleaned out ,seats, broken and dirty ,and one even had nails sticking up through the seat.Went into lunch and found table had not been cleaned properly and was sticky to the touch. The fish and chips ordered by one person absolutely fine but the Sunday roast not very hot. The fires in the pub were not lit and had not been cleaned out. Have used this pub many times over the years and was very sad to see the decline in standards.

We returned to the Blacksmiths for the first time this year, with two friends. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was cordial and efficient throughout. Steak & kidney pudding, fish & chips, fish pie, and ham, egg & chips were our main courses, and all were very tasty. For desserts we chose between us just two traditional English puddings, apple pie and jam pudding, with custard all round. Excellent. We all agreed that we had enjoyed a really good meal.

There is nothing to not like about this pub..... Great location, great atmosphere, great garden (and walks from it), great beer, great food, great fires and great people - staff and patrons that make you feel really welcome.... this is the quintessential English Pub, and the owners should be commended for keeping it going which I appreciate is really hard work. Shame as normally it’s been lovely but not today. Seems a shame that the response I got from this review was a lie as I make no remarks on any one’s business at all only this one. My wife and I decided to pop in for a pint & some lunch, as it had been a while since we last visited this pub. I ordered home made Lasagna which cost just over £14. This was one of the worsts Home made Lasagna I've ever eaten. It was like someone had heated up a microwave lasagna and chucked it in a dish. It tasted and looked awful. I also ordered a pint of warm ghostship which had sediment floating around the bottom. I also ordered half a pint of neck oil which also tasted nothing like it should (twangy). It's such a shame as the pub is in a lovely spot but the landlord needs to look into the standard of the food and drink they serve up. I spent almost £50 that day and felt totally ripped off. The standard compared to other pubs out there leaves a lot to be desired.

We booked a table and we arrived on time. We ordered a drink then sat down. We were given the menu which had very little choice on it. I noticed on their website the prices have gone up in price. The roast dinner was advertised at 13.00. The menu I was given the roast was 16.00. It wasn't mentioned that the prices had changed. I was hungry so decided to just order. We waited a very long time for our meals to arrive in fact we had to order another drink. I chose turkey roast which said red cabbage and cranberry sauce. I was looking forward to it, thought at 16.00 it will be amazing. After waiting a very long time my dinner came out. It wasn't what was described on the menu. It had completely different veg to what the menu said. There was no explanation. I cut the potato which wasn't cooked I touched the inside of the potato and it was stone cold. The rest of the meal was also cold. Couldn't believe id waited so long to be served a plate of cold food. I sent it back got no apology just another one which came out within minutes , peas missing but peas were on the first meal. I certainly wasn't impressed By this time I was starving I just wanted to eat and go. I wouldn't reccomend this pub the food isn't anything special and it's very expensive. I was shocked that a plain jacket potato cost 6.00 absolutely priced too high.

I have never done this sort of thing before, but I felt I must. Myself and 5 friend s with our partner s decided to visit the Blacksmiths on Sunday. We duly arrived and was greeted with big smile and taken to our table. My husband ordered a round of drinks plus wine for dinner for our friend's, this was executed relative ease and in a timely manner. We all ordered roast dinners as we are all matured adults ...in other words OLD AND SET IN OUR WAYS !! We had a mixture of Beef and Lamb, across our table with an allotment of vegetables. We couldn't fault it !!! YOU COULD TASTE HOW FRESH IT WAS !!! Four individuals decided to have desserts, of which our very attentive waitress by the name of Hedi gave us the choices of the day. My husband and I opted for the chocolate orange cheesecake along with my close friend , her husband had the apple strudel either custard. The young lady returned, to the kitchen to what I can only describe as a rapturous applause , cheering some booing and a lot of laughter was herd . When she returned to our table to I felt compelled to ask her what the applause was for, she told us that two chefs had decided to have a competition and who ever sold the most of the dessert they had made would be king of the desserts for the day . So we had chef strudel and chef cheesecake and with the purchase of our 3 cheesecake s on table chef cheesecake was the winner. Well we can honestly say that the cheesecake was one of the best I've ever eaten , you can tell when these are bought in and this was clearly HOME MADE as well as the apple strudel !!!! This was our first visit but will most certainly not be the last. My husband and I have decided to bring our older children for a family meal and can't wait to return. Keep up the good work Mr Owner whoever you are, and as for your chefs please keep the competition healthy , as for chef cheesecake simply the best . A big thank you to you all for making our first time at the blacksmiths a remarkable and enjoyable one.

After the third time of asking for lattes they were delivered post sweets. We asked the waitress if we could speak to and bring this to the managers attention but no one came out to us. Even with a confirmation email, our online reservation wasn't in the book. The young lady didn't fret but fitted us in (had we arrived an hour or so later we wouldn't have been so lucky) but I felt we'd been squashed into a corner seat. Oddly starters aren't served on Sundays (surely thats when you want a 3 course meal?) which was a shame because we'd been looking forward to the pate starter we'd had previously. My husband had the roast lamb but neither of us could decide if it was infact lamb or beef. He wasn't given mint sauce and we both thought the portion was a little on the small side. Online it says the roast is £13 but it was £14.95 I had the crab topped with grated egg. The crab and the salad was very nice but the egg didn't really work. The lemon cheesecake dessert was average. My husband enjoyed his chocolate fudge cake with custard. The staff were friendly and the food was nice but in future we'll ring to make a booking and go during the week so we can have a starter.

Made it there, someone at the pub kindly let staff use the toilets and then move on to the recreational grounds behind. Next day, we returned to the grounds, a couple students unfortunately misunderstood a few instructions to use the toilets on the grounds with the toilets in the pub. Pub owner came out effing and blinding at a bunch of kids instead of trying to find an adult to talk to which was incredible really. In fact, before I could even get a word out he began effing and blinding to me, also so apparently he isn't polite to children and adults alike. Decided he was going to insult me and my colleague without listening to reason. Such a shame really, seemed a nice place yesterday but turns out the owner is not a testament to the place. As a response to the owner - cheers for replying. Any effort and politeness you showed the day prior was very welcomed at the time. Unfortunately, that appreciation was overwritten by YOUR manners towards 5 teenage girls, not “yobs”. Just a shame that we went there, thought there was a polite understanding for adults to use the loo and park the car, spend money at their pub, and they decide to behave even worse than some 14 year old girls over a minor misunderstanding where apparently some loo roll was dropped on the floor. Oh well.

Looking somewhat drab on outside. If this was your first visit you would probably go elsewhere. However, the inside is more pleasant.

After attending Beckenham Beacon today with a 94 year old client of mine, we were sent to minor injuries ti see a doctor. I found the lady on reception there to Be so rude and of no professional courtesy at all, I watched her treating people with no consideration to them being unwell at all, and really didn’t care ! I even expressed my concern to the Doctor when we were eventually called in to be seen , he couldn’t apologise enough, it was like everyone knew how rude this lady was and yet she continued with her rudeness. Not good at all

We had an amazing roast at the elm tree today. The staff always go above and beyond. A special mention to Niall for his professionalism and friendly welcome. James who is the pillar of customer service and has such gravitas. Finally to Chelsea who always is smiling. We are lucky to have this pub as our local. Thank you all
