The Black Swan in Harrogate

Love a country pub with great beer (hand pulled bitter) and straight forward no nonsense home made food. The Theakstons bitter is alongside The Fat Badger in Hartogate the most consistent & best kept Beer. Called in for Sunday lunch which I really enjoy in there and I noticed a chefs special “home made gammon and mushroom pie” with seasonal veg… wow a big shout out to Piers the chef that was outstanding!! Light and crispy pastry top, plenty of tasty filling alongside big fat chips, seasonal veg and extra gravy in a side jug. I look forward to Pie season through the colder months.. Anyone looking for a quality country pub then book a table.. Thank you once again Paula and I loved it..

We stopped off here on the off chance as we were more than a bit ready for lunch. The menu had something for everyone and we all ordered different things. The food was absolutely fantastic and served piping hot and lots of it! Very pleased with the service and it's a very nice place. Hardly a soul in when we called by but I will most definitely be back!

This is our second time trying out the Black Swan in Burn Bridge. We had such a great experience from start to finish. The service was the perfect balance of friendly and attentive but also causal. It's a nice atmosphere in there and all the staff seem happy to be there. Our wait time for food was just perfect, quite quick but not too quick. The food itself was really nice. All four of us enjoyed our meals. My kids both ate all their pizza which I also pinched a slice of, it was delicious! I can't wait to return soon :)

We were looking forward to a nice lunch at the Black Swan after reading so many great reviews. Sadly, we did not get the chance to sample any of the food or drinks. The car park was empty as we drove in, despite it being a Friday lunchtime. Not a good omen in our book. We hesitated about going in but thought we'd give it a try. Walked into a completely empty pub with one waitress behind the bar. After asking for a couple of drink options which she didn't have, she handed us two menus and said we could sit anywhere we wanted. At no point did she mention we needed to order food from the bar. We told her we would sit in the beer garden. The tables and benches nearest the exit were quite scruffy but as they were in the shade we decided it would be better than in full sun. And there we waited and waited....The waitress could see where we were sat from the bar, but not once did she make any attempt to come out and take our drink or food order. After waiting twenty minutes and no sign of any service, we got up and left as it was obvious none was going to be offered. A big disappointment but we won't be going back.

Great pub located on a commuter road to Harrogate. Staff were lovely, wine was great will definitely come back

Thought that the food was excellent quality and fantastic value. I have eaten at a lot of pubs recently and was really impressed by the quality and price of the meal. The food also arrived very quickly. Very much plan to go back. Given the quality of the food, I was really surprised that the pubs wasn’t busier.

Great hearty food, good portions in a pub with lots of seating. We had business around the outskirts of Harrogate and wanted to call for food on the way back to Leeds. The Black Swan was ideally situated during our journey.

Stopped in with kids on a long journey home and had a great dinner. Food was really good and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly.

Good value food and tasty fish and burgers. Far too many chips and badly done (need to change their oil) not much atmosphere inside but a good garden

I’ve been here twice now visiting family near by and both times been treated by grumpy, rude staff. Not even a friendly hello and made to feel like an inconvenience. Also very expensive for drinks. £35 for four pints and 4 kids drinks is excessive.

Charming big beer garden with lots of benches, plus Neck Oil, Lagunitas and Brixton Lager on tap.

We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. Barman was very polite and good service. Beer garden very family friendly.

Called about 2.30 this afternoon sat outside in the shaded part of the garden as the main garden areas had no umbrellas. I can’t believe how un kept it was filthy tables the whole outside was in a poor condition compared to how it used to be we had one drink and left to go to the Nelson which was fabulous clean your place up and show it some love or don’t expect to be busy

Super location with an amazing sized garden. Relaxing, even with the kids area. Dogs welcome. Food 9/10, only because I'm not a fan of pesto or mustard dressings. Food came in decent time and the staff were really cheerful and nice. Will definitely go again :)

Just called whilst passing through. Real ale not particularly good choice and 1/2 pint beer and a small lime cordial and soda at £4 is way over priced Plus side it has a lovely beer garden

Held a christening party for 50 and the buffet and service was superb.. always difficult when 50 rock up at mid day on a Sunday but they were well prepared.. the food was great a selection of hot food (chicken, fish, pizzas, sausage rolls, chips) and cold food ( 3 x salads, fresh sandwiches, pork pies etc). Some could not resist ordering there famous roast pork Sunday dinner and they were all very pleased. A great selection of beers and wine with a personal favourite the theakstons best bitter. A very hungry bunch arrived but we could not eat it all!! Lovely setting with internal dining for those wanting to keep out of the sun and a great garden for those who love sitting outside.. A big thank you to all staff for helping create a memorable day.

Fantastic country pub we’re we held a christening party for 50 with a hot and cold buffet which was excellent including the service. Not easy when 50 rock up at mid day on a Sunday but they were well prepared and a memorable day was had by all. Options of dining in for those not wanting to sit in the sun but for those who did then also option for shaded and unshaded areas. Great selection of hot ( chicken, fish, pizza, sausage rolls, chips etc)& cold food ( 3 x salads, fresh sandwiches, pork pies etc).. sone even ordered their famous Sunday roast pork dinners!! A good selection of beers and wine with my favourite bern the theakstons BEST beer which was a lovely pint.. The staff were so friendly and found not do enough so thank you.. and a big shout out to the chef for serving lovely food..

A good pub meal which seemed very reasonably priced. Our party of 8 enjoyed the relaxed vibe and being able to catch up in pleasant surroundings. I really liked the fish and (double cooked) chips!

We stopped for a drink here last weekend on our way to Harrogate. The staff were so friendly that we decided to stay for lunch, and didn't regret out decision as the food was far better than your typical country pub fare.

We found this on our way home from knarsbrough so decided to pop in for a bite to eat, wow i wasnt expecting food to be so great seen as its a pub but its really cosy very clean and staff was great . Pizzas are homemade 👌 and the burger was huge proper beef and cooked to perfection will be returning thanks again !!

Found pub by chance from overnight stay nearby on travel back home from Scotland to Norfolk. Lovely cosy pub with nice fire burning 🔥 we just just had one pint asked nice local on best pint to match aTetley as not made anymore other then cans at shops! suggested Theakston! very nice just had one with hot soup although pizzas looked good we were soaking wet from Brimham rocks tour so soup warmed us up nicely before our journey back Norfolk, soup nice but just touch salty! ginger and carrot couldn’t really taste ginger tbh!

This is a lovely pub that does food. The food quality is great and is really good value. It is not busy which is a shame. Also beer choice is great. With the winter open fire it is relaxing and enjoyable.

We recently booked The Black Swan for a funeral tea and received fantastic service. The food was extremely good and plentiful and the staff were so efficient and very helpful and polite. The buffet far exceeded our expectations and the standard was excellent. So pleased we chose this venue.

Were told when we arrived for our booking that our order would be delayed as a large group just ahead of us. Pleased they let us know and actually the delay wasn’t so bad. Can’t emphasise enough how super the staff were. Limited menu however what we had was plentiful and good

Recommend this lovley village pub. Made welcome. We were not from area and dropped in on chance they had gf options and they did happy days. If we were from the area we would be returning :)

Lovely little pub with a really nice garden. We stopped on way back from RHS Harlow Carr and arrived just in time before the kitchen closed (2pm on the jubilee Thursday bank hol) and the lady who served us was so friendly and attentive. Like others have mentioned, the food was much nicer than you might expect from a quiet little pub - my husband’s chicken burger was lush and my chicken and bacon baguette was really nice too. This pub seems to be a real hidden gem for decent food and drinks in the sun.

Eine sehr gemütliche Landgaststätte / Pub, idyllisch gelegen und vor den Toren der sowieso sehr pittoresken Stadt Harrogate. Anständiges Essen in sehr großen Portionen, von indischen Curries uber Fish & Chips bis hin zu Sandwiches und Salaten. Keine Sterneküche, aber solide britische Hausmannskost.

The best fish and chips ever and excellent service

Took the family for a Sunday lunch and had a lovely meal. We all had the beef lunch which came with generous portions of vegetables. Enjoyed it so much we went back the following week. Would have given a 5 star rating but on our second visit some of the beef (not much) was so overcooked and fatty it was inedible. I put this down to un-luck of the draw as 95% of the food was excellent. Staff were attentive and friendly. There’s also a good outdoor space to keep the children entertained.

Quite disappointed that the black pudding fritter wasn’t available but the food was well cooked and presented. One of the best steak pies I have ever eaten. Good service and value.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime in august. The place was almost empty and void of atmosphere. Ordered the house burger which was disappointingly chewy and tough. Maybe other dishes are more appealing to the palette but I doubt that I’ll be returning to take my chances.

We excellent food. Eat in or in the lovely beer garden or even take out. Lots of great walking and views nearbye. Try the mussels - delicious

Visited the Black Swan at Burn Bridge yesterday. Lovely pub with large outside seating area and a few climbing frames for the children. The food is excellent. The large fish and chips portion is massive and I couldn’t even manage to eat all the fish! Good selection of starters and desserts too. The lady who served us was so pleasant and helpful. We will certainly be visiting again.

On a quiet friday afternoon, we wanted to sit in the garden of this pub just for a drink on our way home. However to do so with a pram on arrival involved going up steps to the bar and then down steps to the door to the garden. The door isn't big enough for a pram to go through so you then have to open the top lock and bottom lock to the double door to fit it through. Once finally outside, the gravel outside is extremely difficult to push a pram through. The pub has poor accessibility and never were we offered any help or assistance with getting outside. Once outside the view is lovely and after drinks were ordered online, they came quickly. It's a shame that we couldnt enjoy it as we knew what we had to go through to get out again!

Beautiful area outside and inside. Lovely play equipment for the children, and seated area spaced out nicely. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious I would love to know the sauce on the burger 😀😀😀

This was a chance discovery. We just needed to stop for a bite on our journey. We were lucky. The food and the service were great. I had a salad which was beautifully presented and delicious. I can't get over the fact that there are so many great pubs that you can just stumble on and find great food. This is one of them.

Wonderful pub with gorgeous food would definitely recommend to anyone wanting proper homemade food at very reasonable prices! Can’t wait to return .

Last night was the first time that my boyfriend & I sampled the food from The Black Swan - we took advantage of the takeaway options offered on Friday and Saturday nights. We made our order face to face, the lady working was upbeat and...

Beer is ok, food is not bad (but overpriced) but the landlord is really unfriendly, to the point where it feels like you have to twist his arm to stay open/get served and these days it's just not worth it.

Booked in for Sunday lunch before the lock down looms and it was amazing, good portion size, well cooked meat and 2 yorkshire puddings! Well worth the visit and will be heading back as soon as we can. Staff are excellent too.

Probably the most rude staff I’ve ever seen. Horrible people, worse beer. No wonder it’s empty. Dying pub sadly killed by nasty people.

Rude staff, terrible vibe and certainly not worth the trip. Came here with a few friends to sit in the garden, treated like an inconvenience when we arrived and got told off for seeking shelter from the rain in the children‘s area. There was not another person in the whole place. Spiteful boring people, why not be friendly when your business depends on it?

Can’t believe I’ve never been before and I’ve lived in Harrogate my whole life. Great pub! Brilliant beer garden and lovely food. Staff are brilliant as well. You guys have certainly got the whole “social distancing “ thing sorted. Very well organised! Well done!

The halloumi burger is amazing, nice pub in a lovely part of Yorkshire. Nice place to stop after a day out hiking.
