Weird place!. Went in to look at the menu with a view to maybe eat there in the coming days. We,ve finished for the day was the ignorant response!, but I only want to look at the menu I said, the young girl then hid behind the counter???. Eventually I was given a menu, by now I had no intention of eating there, god knows what it would have been like!. It could be a gold mine as its situated in an amazing spot, such a shame!.

We visited The Black Shed after reading the reviews , unfortunately our experience was as follows, the service at counter was good and staff seemed friendly and helpful but that’s where it went downhill. The scampi was well overcooked and the chips tasted like cardboard. The person serving the food slammed the plates onto the table without a smile and all the time chewing gum . We know they were busy but this is one sure fire way to lose custom (definitely us). It’s a shame as it’s in the perfect location . Hopefully this was a one off .

Popped in after a lovely visit to the Wetland centre. We were met with a friendly welcome, decided to have some Victoria sponge and coffee, and couldn't resist an irresistible looking pasty (chicken, bacon &leak). How glad I was to be greedy, it was the best pastry on a pasty I have had for some time, the filling was tasty too. As for the cake, homemade generous portion 2 layer filling washed down with a lovely cappuccino. So glad we popped in. Try it before or after visiting the Wetland Centre, which is a much cheaper and tastier option, lovely quiet setting by the canal.

Had a lovely day at the Wetlands Center with the family and had heard good things about The Black Shed so decided to give it ago. Came in for lunch bank holiday Sunday. And what can I say it's like going back to a school lunch room. Childish decor and lunch tables do not do the justice on be beautiful setting along the canal side. As we arrived they had a local band which were thoroughly enjoyable and added a lovely atmosphere, not enough to counteract the general awful state of the place. Mens toilets had a out of use urinal and no hot water. Wife said that the smell of the women's toilets made her feel sick, no spare toilet roll and was generally unclean feeling. Our food came out in dribs and drabs, but was all generally okay. Staff generally looked like they were running around like looneys except for one young lad who seemed to be holding the place together. Well done to him. Went in and toilets shut at quarter to five?! People were queuing to use the one disabled. Bloody ridiculous. Last orders at 5 for the bar even through there were people still sat outside enjoying the bank holiday sun. Generally wouldn't recommend.

With regards to the previous review from Anita W - I feel as I have to say something in defence of the blackshed and the member of staff. I was actually a customer in the cafe at the same time and In my opinion the lady behind the counter knew exactly what she was talking about, she had enquired if the customer was gluten free or celiac and was attempting to explain that yes she was able to provide a gluten free meal but because of the procedures put in place to protect the customer it would take a little longer. At no time did I feel the member of staff was rude or belittling in fact I would say it was the other way round!! This was my first visit to The blackshed and it won't be my last, i visit the area quite regularly, I experienced friendly service and an excellent breakfast with a hot drink at a fair price. The place was a little gem, with fantastic proper food, knowledgeable and conscientious staff and a super view. Keep up the good work 😁

My friend is gluten free and they advertise gluten free breakfast. She ordered and the cook was behind the counter. Her comments were it’s going to take half hour longer for yours I have to go and the back and strip off and everything. Will have to use a separate fryer two of us will have to cook the meal and so forth. My friend was made to feel very uncomfortable and was totally humiliated. Don’t go there there if you have an allergy she was rude and horrid. My friend had to chose something else as she felt so belittled for goodness sake why advertise you can cater for a customer with allergies if you then kick off when such a guest orders. Would never go there or recommend to anyone disgraceful way to treat guests. I would suggest you remove gluten free dishes from your menu as the cook obviously runs the place and cannot cater for guests with allergies. The chef didn’t know the difference between an glutenallergy and.a dairy intolerance which is scary

Two part review 1) Staying in the campsite opposite we were recommended to visit the black shed for breakfast. We were not disappointed. The ‘black shed filler’ for £10 was a beast of a breakfast. The food was hot and fresh and the staff lovely and polite. 2) Whilst we were there we noticed a sign about boat trips up and down the canal. £5 each for roughly 30 mins. The two ladies in charge were an excellent double act, allowing children to have a go at steering the boat whilst giving an in depth and pertinent history of both the vessel and the canal. A very lovely morning out and thoroughly enjoyable breakfast.

We were a family party of 15 through the Saturday Afternoon. It was my Autistic Grandson’ birthday. He was very excited and a little ‘over cooked’ making endless demands of the smiling and very helpful server without being rebuffed or knocked back. The answer was even ‘No we can’t do that’ sometimes and it was accepted ( unusually) - I think due to this patience and friendly demeanour. The welcome and endless patience made a happy event almost stress free for children, parents and grandparents. The food was of good quality and plentiful with swift service at reasonable price but overall it was the kindness that made this an exceptional experience. Thank you.

We love our visit to the Black Shed today. The food was amazing. Big chunky sandwiches with loads of filling and a gorgeous Jacket potato equally loaded. The staff were friendly, and price point comparable with the area. As its name suggests the building is a Black Shed, and inside does reflect a staff dining room. But that is fine. That is who they are. I would say visit and enjoy.

Not the first time we've been here and what a lovely place it is, too, although in winter it's probably best to wrap up well. They have a decent selection of food and drink including a licensed bar and the service is great. A special thank you to Tim who was politeness personified. My only gripe was with the cheese sandwich I had. Although it was very tasty, as was the salad accompaniment, it's grated cheese. I know how expensive things are at the moment - I read today that food inflation is running at 17% - but I'd happily pay extra for a slab in my sarnie. Everything else was great. And what a lovely setting. We will be back.

Called in whilst out for a walk after reading reviews. We were very disappointed. The place felt grubby and cluttered. The cafe seemed uncared for and just unwelcoming. Staff seemed clueless and took ages to bring our order. I watched one staff member serving cakes by picking them up in her hand to put in the serving tongs and then take them by hand from the serving tongs to put on the plates! I’m not sure what the thought process was?!? I’m just glad we didn’t have cake. Would not go back again.

This was snail food and didn't taste or look fresh. This is the second time in two visits that we have waited a long time for food, the previous visit was over an hour. Mixed feelings really. Inside the cafe is very basic and dated but if the weather is nice it’s a beautiful spot to sit outside (right by canal). I had a cappuccino (served in a mug) and a toasted tea cake (£5.00 for both) which was perfectly nice but prices I felt were quite top end for a cafe. Real butter served with tea cake which was nice. Car park situation put me off so I just parked on the road. I went in a morning and breakfast menu looked good - lots of denominations ie sandwiches, items on toast or build your own breakfast. I’d return on a sunny day to try a proper breakfast.

We were staying at Tudor Caravan park so popped in to the Black Shed for a drink after a lovely walk along the canal. The service was very friendly and the food (Fish and Chips) looked great but we'd had lunch! Sadly we didn't enjoy our bacon sandwich the next morning, the bacon was very fatty, the bread very thick and the coffee tasted like quite weak instant coffee.

Great lunch, good beer and a place to watch life, water and boats go by. Great place to unwind for a couple of hours.

When I order good old fish and chips I usually regret it.Oily tasteless fish with greasy soggy batter seems to be becoming the norm. NOT SO at the Black Shed. At almost sixty years young I can truly say that this was the finest battered fish I have tasted. The non-greasy batter made with generous amounts of beer, so I was told, and the tasty fish were a real treat. We stayed at the Tudor Caravan Park opposite especially to catch the live music at 'The Shed' which is on every Friday. The really friendly owner came for a chat at the end of the evening. A blissful location on the edge of the Gloucester Sharpness Canal.

Great location right on the canal bank. Much improved since new owners. First and foremost register your car at reception, car park is monitored to ensure that cars parked are using the cafe and not parking and walking. Choice of meals is varied and of good quality and plentiful. Service is also friendly and with a smile. Enjoy the food and then have a walk up or down the canal. Recommended.

I highly recommend The Black Shed. After a walk along the canal we stopped here for lunch. We chose the freshly made quiche, potatoes, salad and of a cuppa. The meal was a very generous size and absolutely delicious. Staff helpful and friendly. Will definitely go again.

We stopped here mid-way through a ride. It is a very odd place. The breakfast sandwiches were very good though and surprisingly well priced. I had sausage, egg and beans with a cup of tea and it came to less than £4.

Good breakfast plenty of it and fresh at a reasanable price, make sure you register your car registration when you get in to the cafe or you will get a parking fine.

Perfect afternoon sat by the canal watching longboats chugg along feeding swans and eating an enormous delicious piece of homemade cake. Have even spent the past two wednesday evening there with family eating food, which I might add taste better than many meals tasted in the Uk in the last four weeks of my visit here. One Word SCOTCH EGGS made locally, best in the world, if I had a bigger suitcase Id take loads back with me to sweden. Friendliest staff and villagers, a small gem, but well worth the visit. Thankyou Xxx

On Thursday Myself, Mum, Dad and Gran decided to go out for lunch as a small celebration because my Nan will be 92 on Monday! It was a really enjoyable experience. Both Nan and I had a child’s meal (we are not big eaters) which is great value for £5.50 for a main meal, drink of squash and ice cream. Dad had faggots and chips which he really enjoyed but he was a little bit disappointed with how salty the gravy was. Mum had a cheese and ham sandwich. I couldn’t believe how big it was! The setting was lovely, the staff friendly. As I said the only negative was the overly salty gravy and that the main meals arrived together but the sarnie had to be asked for twice before it came to the table about 10 minutes later. The Caramel slice was lovely but my parents found it very sweet. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice lunch.

Nice place to visit and no problems with service and staff who were very polite. I would have given full marks had it not been for the uninviting car park. It was sad to see that a parking control company has the contract to police the car park in this lovely country setting.

Visited yesterday at lunchtime with my dog. We sat outside on a picnic bench but could have eaten in the cafe too. Our order came in a reasonable time and was piping hot with generous portions. Scampi in the basket, chicken goujons in the basket and a chicken breast with a jacket potato and salad. No complaints whatsoever and we are fussy! Will definitely visit again soon ...

The title was my husbands comment. He had faggots and we warn you NOT to go there.. He asked for boiled potatoes and then told later they were gone so he asked for mash then they served him chips! I had vegetable lasagne which has won my “worst meal ever” top spot. The sauce was powdery and thin like a cup a soup and the pasta was floury and not cooked. The vegetables were tiny pieces floating in the gross soup and some tasteless floury cheese was sprinkled but not melted on top. Honestly horrible. Not especially cheap either for a ‘shed’ so truly disappointing. A frankly horrible meal and environment. I do not understand why the staff allow the TV on at full blast and why are dogs allowed? Surely unhygienic around food? At our visit there were several present at people tables who were consistently barking very loudly to the point you could not actually think straight. The service was intermittently friendly from some but also a bit angry and shouty from others. I will say the chips were good so if you find yourself there by accident or under duress then this may be your safest bet! Never ever, ever again.

We were moored near this place so used it for coffee and snacks. To start with the total lack of organisation and ability to get an order right was amusing but as it happened again and again was less so.

I hired Wild Goose Lodge (nearby) for my 50th birthday for the weekend and a canal boat from Gloucester Narrowboats who are based here on the Sunday. Throughout the weekend my guests used The Black Shed Cafe as we were self catering and we especially loved the cooked breakfasts. The location is fabulous and friends loved eating here while waving myself and family off on the canal boat.

Have been here several times. Sometimes just for coffee and tea, which is brilliant value compared to what some places charge these days.

Muy pocos clientes comer y el ambiente es muy tenue. La comida está bien preparada y el servicio es rápido, pero con tan pocos diners no sorprendente.

Being going for Sunday roast here on and off for a while, always returning because was good value, nice staff etc... today disappointed price was up slightly(like everything) but quality was no where near as good. Trio of roasts, 3 tiny roast potatoes you ever did see which were lukewarm as were the carrots....vegetables always came in separate dish, now on plate but lots of peas(cheapest veg out there) 2 pieces of warm carrot, one piece of broccoli, which mine wasn't even cooked, raw! That's was it veg wise, we'd paid extra for cauliflower cheese. I did raise issue when asked how food was and was offered for it to be microwaved... but there was 4 of us so that would have taken too long and lots of eating different times or waiting or meals getting muddled. Such a shame as we've returned many times with these friends because roast was so good. Not our opinion today. Once I'd declined microwave nothing else was said or done..guess we need to find another place for roast now!
