The Black Rabbit in Arun

A lovely venue. Good service. Nice staff, but the food is not up to much. We all had roast dinners. Meat and veg were ok but the roast potatoes were so dry and shrivelled they looked as if they’d been cooked weeks ago. Yorkshire puds were stone cold and very dry. The food wasn’t terrible - it just wasn’t very good. But it’s a very nice place and the service is good

My husband and I dropped in for lunch after long walk with our dog. The pub was a delightful find. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the food was amazing.

The staff were the most important part of my visit. They were attentive without being overbearing. Polite informative and available. The food and drink were equally as good, good portions sizes and well presented with any unnecessary frills. I will definitely return here, not just to collect the beer glass I was given and the left it behind 🤦🏽‍♂️ Thank you for a fabulous experience.

Staff were good; friendly and polite, and service was fairly quick. The food and wine were all average. Not bad but not great. Portion sizes weren't the biggest and it was quite expensive for what it was. A very average experience overall. Previous experience of the Black Rabbit was a Sunday lunch which was better so maybe this was the exception...

Great place and food - always packed

The food was absolutely lovely, some of the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming with very friendly, relaxed staff. Considering all of this, everything was really reasonably priced as well - we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be coming back!

A nice pub, we just went for drinks. Shame that they'd run out of all ales on tap and despite having the barrels, hadn't changed them. The house lager was very nice though.

We didn't book on New Year's Eve and thought we would try our luck here with some lunch after a walk. There were 5 of us and 2 young children. The gentleman behind the bar greeted us and nothing was no trouble. The food was amazing. The venue is stunning. Will definitely recommend!

This was my first visit, but was with folks that had been before, Despite being incredibly busy the attention from the staff was second to none! My only comment - Toilets - I used both WC's whilst at the Black Rabbit and they both need attention, from a maintainance perspective ( both had broken items ) Toilets should be checked more often during busy periods

We were dissapointed to have booked a table to find out you are only given a 1hr time slot (this is not explained at time of booking online). One hour is not enough time to enjoy a meal, especially given the fact this is quite an upmarket pub.

Lovely, friendly staff. Food was delicious and served promptly. Good selection of food choices available. Lovely children’s outdoor area. Beautiful scenery by the lake.

Went to this recommended pub. It was in a beautiful place,nice & peaceful. The drinks were good. But only accepted card payments. Likely I had a card on me, but not pleased...... What would have happened if I only had cash ? Won't be going there again because of that. I don't like to use my card I'm old score,I like cash. Not everyone uses card payments. So sad that this is the future of a cash less society. People should have a choice in how they pay.

We came as a party of 9, we’d book earlier in the day online and I’d also called to check how the pub deals with allergies and intolerances as one of our party is celiac. The phone call was great and we were well assured that all potential possibilities and risks would be avoided for the member of our party. When we arrived we were greeted and once again assured that he’d be okay and good to eat in your establishment. A member of the team went through the menu with him from start to finish and made him aware that he could kind of pick and choose his way around a roast and essentially build his own, the service was top tier and The Black Rabbit food was amazing!!! We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Nice food, friendly staff, plenty of parking, nice view of the castle lit up at night. Toilets needed some attention.

Just had Christmas lunch which was fabulous, everything was cooked to perfection and the service was first class. Cannot speak highly enough, Merry Christmas to all .

We were a table of 8 people and the opinion was unanimous, general disappointment! I chose the vegetarian dish, tasteless! Dry, no flavor I don't even mention the presentation my salad came straight out of the bag Poor quality pub To flee

Returning after 30 years to the Black Rabbit, to celebrate my daughter's 21st, was fantastic. The food was really good ( 3 of us had the beef shin) What's special about thd Black Rabbit is its position on the Arundel River with fantastic views of the castle and the birds and canoeists enjoying the meander.

Such a lovely meal, delicious food and Ian was a fantastically friendly and welcoming waiter. Would definitely recommend.

Despite two years in a row of an increase in people using cash there are places that stick to the post covid snobbery of turning away potential customers if they can't/won't pay by card or phone. So it has to get a one since they would not even serve us.

Excellent Sunday roast. The beef was cooked beautifully pink, portion size was good. Ordered an extra side of pigs in blankets which were delicious. Very busy and popular, but service was excellent (well done Peter, very friendly and attentive). A great example of pub grub done right and providing value for money. Top marks.

Great location, absolutely stunning. But the food is quite expensive. I ordered a cheese burger for £18 and I was given a kids burger. Also, when I left to take my daughter to the toilet and asked that they leave my plate as I wasn't finished. Yet, when I returned, guess what?! Gone. So not the best experience unfortunately. They did give me a free desert to try and make up for the mistake. That was actually quite nice.

Disappointing I'm afraid. Ordered drinks at the table and the first two draught beers that I chose had 'just run out'. The drinks then took a long time to arrive. Other diners got their drinks directly from the bar. The food was average. Service charge was added. I expected better, as the place had been recommended.

Recently been to the black rabbit twice, once I had the club sandwich which was lovely and the second time fish and chips. Just wanted to thank our waitress Sam who was really lovely, efficient and accommodating. She made our experience enjoyable

Pretty naff place to be honest. Nothing really great about this pub aside from the views. Very busy and you spend more time trying to win a battle with others for a seat then enjoy a drink.

Arrived, dog friendly. Way too hot, woodburners and heating on. It wasn't that cold outside. Very uncomfortable to sit in. Maybe heating was on for staff all in t.shirts. Drinks were nice , food expensive so we didn't eat ..and oh yeah They don't accept CASH . !!!

Haven't been here for a while but glad we returned. Nice location next to the river. The food has got fancy and tasted amazing. Drinks are a little pricey though. Would recommend venue.

Food was awful. Terrible quality. The fish pie was like a cheap ready meal and the same with the other dishes. Service wasn’t great but it was the price and quality of the food which was the real issue.

Booked a table for my husbands 20yrs in services for ten people a month ago the night before The black Rabbit decided to cancel our table due to booking being to late now.. What a joke....

After having a meal here I almost ended up in hospital food is not cooked properly or not hygienic, I called up to explain this to staff the next day they was rude and blunt. Never eating there again! Avoid at all costs

Lovely setting by the river. Small playpark for the kids. Kids menu. Food was dire. Came out after 5mins. Total microwave food like you'd expect at a chain pub. But at gastro pub prices. Kids couldn't finish their meals. Despite 6 or 7 staff hanging around the tills I had to order at the bar and carry a heavy tray of drinks back to my table in the garden. Shame.

A very large riverside pub. Very dog friendly, the waiter loved chatting and cuddling our dog. Service was very good and the food came out quickly (although it was a quiet Monday evening, so not Sunday lunch). It gets absolutely heaving and booking is a must. I felt that the food was a bit over priced. Duck confit, mashed potato and red cabbage, with gravy was over £20, and portion size was ok, but not generous.

After eating here I was sick for 3 days. I called the staff and they where very rude. The food took along time to arrive also. Just avoid.

A welcome respite at the end of a hike. The pie was good but the hake with samphire was shockingly bad - the hake was clearly not fresh, rubbery and tough. A shame.

Yes, sunny spot by the river. Otherwise, nothing to recommend. Zero draught beer, and it's not even the weekend. Given the state of the waiting staff, glad we didn't order food. Waste of a good walk, when same distance would have taken us to The Brewhouse. These guys are sitting on past reputation. Lesson learnt.

A delightful location for a bite to eat and a few drinks. Very pleasant atmosphere.

Great pub, gorgeous views over the river, plenty of outside seating perfect place to have a cold drink on a warm day after a good walk around the area .

I had just visited the Sussex Arundel WWT (excellent!), and The Black Rabbit pub was signposted close by. It was 5pm on a Friday afternoon. The outside is so pretty, which the outside seating overlooking the waterway. Inside, the pub is clean and charmingly friendly. Front of house staff are nice. The menu was great. I had a homemade chicken and bacon pie on a smooth mash with peas and gravy. Very wholesome. There was a good wine selection and of course an excellent range of real ales. The Black Rabbit is a must if you visit the castle, and you really should support the excellent wildlife wetland trust nearby.

Extremely busy but service and food first class. Recommend the Sunday roasts especially.

Staff were very friendly & helpful but looked over worked, could probably do with another pair of hands or two. Location is amazing, right next to a river with plenty of seating. I had the steak which was overpriced for what I got, very fatty. My partner had the veggie curry which she thought was lovely.

Lovely location, nea the river, overlooking Arundel castle. But the food is really poor quality for the money. Chips from frozen bags, stale buns for the burger, really poor ingredients, even the ketchup was dodgy as hell. Really wouldn't stop here again for anything other than a drink. Pity. The 3 stars are for the location and fast service only.

The Black Rabbit was such a joy to visit. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside by the river, the ambience is great. Food was delicious and the staff were lovely. 5 stars all round!

Negatives… no lemonade, no soda (on 2nd trip to the bar, although was there on first), no chicken. You order food and drinks at the bar and cutlery is delivered to the table in a wet paper napkin. My dad loved the pork belly, my pie dish was so salty I really did need that lemonade! Mum enjoyed her plant burger. I personally don’t think the food was worth the exaggerated, cashless only prices. I’m not used to paying this price for bar service. Positives… that view over the river and the sun going down makes the black rabbit a drink and go sort of place.

Lovely warm evening to have a drink outside. Our table inside, when ready, was a bit compact to swing a cat, but an enjoyable evening.

Excellent Sunday lunch. We had mains and puddings despite the very tempting starters. We were glad though as the portions were generous and the puddings were delicious. The atmosphere was lovely and scenery was stunning. Would highly recommend!

Will priced, great service. Food was quick and really fresh and tasty. Will be back when it's warmer. But they have lots of covered places for rain or cooler times.

Enjoyed a lovely meal as always at our favourite restaurant in Arundel.

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Black Rabbit. It was really busy when we arrived so am glad we booked a table! All the staff were friendly, welcoming, polite and always had a smile. Drinks were brought to our table quickly and the food not long after. The food was great, we had the roast beef which was perfectly pink, the pork with fabulous crackling and the chicken and bacon pie. All were great portions, all hot and extra gravy when we wanted it came out quickly. We will definitely be going back!

We had an excellent Sunday dinner here. Two of us had roast beef, one pork and one chicken pie. With desserts. Good service. Yes the meal was on the more expensive side, but happy to pay as it was very good. Also lovely location.

Four of us booked a table for lunch on the  August Bank Holiday Monday. The location is stunning on the banks of the Arun with views of Arundel Castle in the distance. The beer was exceptional, the best pint of Tanglefoot I've had in a long time. The food on the other hand was really disappointing. All the bread in the Larder Plate and Bread & Butter to start  was old, dry and stale. The Chicken & Bacon pie was almost too salty to eat. The Belly Pork veg had been microwaved (you don't get soggy, tough fried potatoes any other way) and the pork had floppy, tough skin instead of crackling. The moules were ok but the portion was tiny (a starter/child's portion at best) and the pepperoni pizza was like something from the discount isle of one of the cheaper supermarkets. The only saving grace was the Eaton Mess and the coffee for dessert. On the whole, a really disappointing meal considering it cost us £184 (£46 per head) , come on Hall & Woodhouse you need to do a great deal better if I am ever going to eat here again or recommend you to anyone.

A beautiful pub and idyllic setting. I visited on two consecutive Saturdays. The first was fairly quiet and our order was taken at our table by a helpful server. The person behind the bar overcharged one of my family but when aware of the error corrected the mistake and was very pleasant.The following week orders were only taken at the bar, and about ten people were waiting, so I asked a young man if he could help who was also at the bar, but he said he was not serving, or prepared to take my lunch order. He was very rude, very dismissive, obviously not trained appropriately and argued with me in front of customers until a colleague of his told him to stop . Too many young, inexperienced and entitled servers without the guidance of a competent manager. I feel like a voice in the wilderness, as you have plenty of happy customers, but I will not return again.

Been here few years ago when we visited Arundel Castle. Now after a visit at WWT, we decided to visit this restaurant again, because we had a nice experience during our 1st visit. But now everything changed: no service table (no signs), some of the waiters don't have any idea what they're doing - for ex I asked 6 times (3 different people) for the table to be cleaned and emptied. We've done it when we seen no-one is coming to do this. The toilets: the taps are constantly running, the dispensers are falling apart, etc.

It was unfortunately a particularly rainy lunchtime, would have been the cherry on top to enjoy time by the river, everything else was faultless

Stopped for couple of drinks on a sunny bank holiday Monday. What a beautiful location for a pub! Decent choice in terms of ales and spirits. Will be back for sure ! The view is just amazing.

Was looking forward to a meal and drinks at this venue after a lovely walk along the river with my wife- However, we were informed that they do not accept cash payments- why not ???? Don’t support businesses that are promoting the cash less society and the globalist agenda

The food was fine, but we were told card only, why not give customers the choice of how they pay? Because of that we won't return, which is a shame, because we would as we enjoyed it. Plenty of other places in Arundel that thankfully take cash.

Superb food, quick service, riverside seating, sunshine. Couldn't ask for better.

Hmmmm, best location ever but, My advice, have a drink, enjoy the view, then get back in your car and go to town. If I was pub manager, I'd drown the chef in the river.

Just had a drink here as we SUP'd the Arun. Easy access from the river... a rack to leave your board... a very nice pint it amazing surroundings.. we didn't eat but to food looked nice

Hello Mr. Rabbit, I love your establishment. Great spot on the river ! (Minus the wasps !) I popped in with my fiancé for a spot of lunch but settled on just chips and a couple of pints. The beautiful young lady Martha was outstanding ! A beam of joy and light to cut through the awful weather and day we’d had ! Thanks Mr. Rabbit and thank you Martha

Nice atmosphere and a beautiful area. We took mum there for her 86th birthday. There were only three of us and we gave them a fairly straightforward order, 2 starters and 3 mains, and they only bought out two main meals so I was left sitting there while they were eating, I had only ordered a chicken salad with anchovies and parmesan cheese. When I told the waitress I didn't get my main they quickly threw it together and left out that anchovies and the parmesan cheese, it didn't look very appetising. I was very disappointed with it. I had to ask for the anchovies and the parmesan. it had very very little dressing on it so it was just like an emptied out packet of salad you'd buy from the supermarket. When I complained they charged me for a starter salad for £4.95 .. to be perfectly honest with you they shouldn't have charged anything for the inconvenience.. I left them feeling hungry and very disappointed but my partner and his mum enjoyed their roast dinner.

A wonderful place, fronting the River Arun. I was in a group of about 30 people; we enjoyed a 3-course meal, good vibes and the staff were fantastic!

The description of the Black Rabbits plant based burger sounded promising. Unfortunately it failed to live up to what the menu description promised. The burger to bun ration was firmly in favour of the bun. The burger was of poor quality. I have cooked better ones from a supermarket. The sauce tasted cheap and there was far too much of it over powering any taste the burger had. The chips that accompanied the burger were decent but a very small portion. I’ve had worse plant based burgers but not much worse. I would not recommend the underwhelming and over priced One Plant Burger at the Back Rabbit.

Overpriced rubbish dry chicken cold food no flavour

Love this place. 30 years since last visited this place and it's not lost its attraction. Fine food idyllic location on the banks of the Arun and a host of beers and wines. Food was slightly expensive for the portion size you get being we got 2 sharing platters that was enough for one each rather than share. We will be back to sample more food and ales but so happy it's the same if not better than I remember it.

A local favorite not easily found, our family has dined there for decades. The restaurant is on the banks of the River Arun and adjacent to Arundel Castle. It is still a mile or so out of town and a destination. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar and food is delivered to the table. Dining outside is preferred and there is a lot of space - room for maybe 75. The menu is interesting and has something for almost everyone. Food quality was good and prices about average. It seemed a little pricey as Americans but once we figure in the lack of add on sales tax and 20% tips now expected in California, it was really quite reasonable. We will visit again when in England next year.

Lovely pub/restaurant by the river Arun, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating/dining. An area for children to play, and plenty of parking. Staff were friendly, and helpful which always makes a huge difference. Well worth a trip down to if your ever visiting Arundel, and although it was a cloudy day, the view of the castle, fields and cattle was still beautiful.

Lovely setting but very disappointed in the food . It was a very busy day so thought there would be a wait for food but they obviously have the burgers already constructed and sitting on the side waiting to be ordered ( it came out faster than McDonald's) . Due to this the burger and chips were cold when we mentioned this to the member of staff he didn't even apologise. Cashless venue were service charge is added which is another thing I'm not a fan of .

We made a trip to the Black Rabbit after coming here several times in the past and having fond memories here, Unfortunately for them they have now gone cashless, After discovering this we left straight away and will probably never return. Terrible shame.

This pub is situated on the river with an incredible view of Arundel castle. With plenty of parking. There are several real ales on, and the menu looked very good and reasonably priced. Most people were eating in the large out covered out door area.

Lovely location and history but average pub food - overpriced. When we arrived for lunch there were lots of uncleared tables everywhere.

Having had lunch at the Black Rabbit a few years ago decided to go there for dinner. Always loved the location and the atmosphere and has lots of parking. Reasonable selection of ales and normal Guinness (don't understand cold Guinness in pubs!) Had a lovely table to the left hand side of the bar. Menu is pretty varied. Had a baked camembert to share which was very melted and all liquid and an odd number of pieces of sour dough. (note to chefs.. if you are creating a dish for sharing maybe give even numbers of bread?) Was looking forward to the Tanglefoot and steak pie but they have changed the menu so both had the Chicken and bacon pie which was lovely. Could have done with more veg as portion sizes were a bit on the slim side. Staff were very friendly though and would go back for lunch in the daytime and sit beside the river.

Fopd great, staff very friendly and the chips we had was good. Outside seating where the water is. So relaxing. Love the inside also on a colder day which is very calming. Good staff.
