It's a really nice place to be on a sunny day, plenty of space inside outside. You sit literally next to River Arun with an amazing view to the castle. Pretty cool. 🙂 The only thing I would mention is that it's a bit expensive, but then you have to pay for the location I guess. Otherwise the food was nice. Highly recommended.

We had phoned ahead to let them know that we would be very late. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and our apologies for our lateness were brushed aside be the lovely staff. What a beautiful setting, particularly on a warm day when you can sit outside by the river. The inside is pleasant but a review of the pictures is needed I believe. Cleaning of windowsills could be improved but the loos were good! However, the food at best was mediocre. You know that when a hot meal arrives quickly and is very hot, that it has been microwaved. The skin on mashed potato is also a give away. However, it wasn’t bad. However, the puddings were shocking- a crème brûlée that was hard and rubbery and most certainly didn't ‘crack’. It wasn’t even made in the dish that it arrived in! The lemon tart was generic and not sharp or refreshing. In fairness we were only charged for one pudding.

Sunday lunch at the Black Rabbit for myself and other members of our family. Oh dear. Not good. I had read the menu in advance on their website and was looking forward to their fish and chips. On arrival we were told fish and chips "were off". It went downhill from there. I tried to order a glass of wine for my wife only to be told they only sold wine by the bottle. We were then told they did not take cash at all - only plastic – and there was no table service ! Food ordering at the bar only ! The menu on our table encouraged us to consult the Specials Board for other meals. No Specials board available. I ordered the chicken Sunday roast. The chicken had clearly been on a crash diet, the roast potatoes were pre-cooked and overcooked then reheated, carrots rubbery and the whole meal luke warm at best. Same experience for my guests with their Sunday roasts and pies. All agreed it was really poor fayre at ludicrously high prices for what was placed in front of us. Good points - a pub/restaurant in a lovely setting and with plenty parking. Bar staff pleasant. The rest ? – forget it.

The bar and waiting staff were proactive, friendly and attentive. We had made a reservation which was a good call, but didn't appear to be strictly necessary. We both had the plant based, vegan-friendly, steak sandwiches which were brilliant!! And we washed them down with a delicious jar of their own IPA (Westcoast & Hazy) both were really nice. The staff were very accommodating and checked for allergies etc.. and even offered our dog water and a treat🐶 We both really enjoyed our lunch here and will happily return❤️👍💯 *No photos were taken, we were too busy enjoying ourselves x

An off the scale level of service - or rather, lack of - today at the Black Rabbit, Arundel. My wife had nostalgic reasons for wishing to visit this pub, therefore we'd pre-booked a lunch-time table. Arriving in a timely manner, we had to wait a few minutes for a table to be readied before being ushered to it. I imagine this was a typical lunch-time here. Busy, but not unduly so, with some tables unoccupied, and several waiting staff on duty. I'm setting the scene, as there were no justifications for the woeful service we were to receive. We were given menus and the waitress told us she'd be back to take our order. Meanwhile, another couple arrived five minutes after us, and sat at an adjacent table but were handled by a different waiter. We observed him take their drinks order, promptly returning with them, by which time this allowed the couple to read the menu and they placed their food order. We sat there, with no return from our waitress. We weren't in any hurry, so found the events mildly amusing - the couple who'd arrived five minutes after us, had got their drinks and placed their food order, yet still no sign of our waitress, who by now I had made eye contact with a couple of times, and got the 'I'll be right with you' look from her. So, the couple next to us then had their food delivered, yet still we hadn't been asked for our drinks or food order. Eventually the waitress returned to us; drinks were ordered. Then... well the ordered drinks just didn't arrive. If you can imagine, you go through that ''they'll be here in a minute'' period and patiently wait, but no show of the drinks. So, more eye contact with our waitress who said she'd 'chase it up', and yep, another five minutes went by... no drinks. But then - and this was the bit where my blood pressure really went up and my nervous twitch came on strong - another group arrived, complete with their dog. Our waitress then sits them down, takes their drinks order, which despite us now being a good twenty minutes into our wait for the no-show of drinks, SHE THEN GOES AND GETS THE DOG A BOWL OF WATER. The dog gets its bowl of water. What a splendid gesture, but why can't we receive equitable treatment to someone's dog who's just walked in! My wife pacified me; and despite my desire to hit the Launch Missiles button, she'd really wanted to make an auspicious occasion of this visit, so I again put om my tolerant head. But still - no drinks! No apology. No explanation. Finally, we'd had enough. Considered words were delivered to the waitress about the shambolic service; how other people had arrived after us, had ordered a meal and nigh on eaten it whilst we still awaited our drinks order. A perfunctory 'sorry' was as good as it got from the waitress - clearly a distant stranger to the world of customer engagement - and so we went elsewhere. Hopefully the dog and its owner were happy with the service they received and that we might have liked, and will leave a glowing review to balance the tale of this shocking service we received. I clearly can't comment on the quality of the food or even the drinks because we never got any!

I have used the Black Rabbit many times over the years, but this will probably be the last time I do. Came for a drink, but as one of the ladies with me was hungry, we asked if she could order food, was told the kitchen was closed (8pm). Strange thing was, they were still serving others way past this time. Had our drinks, I am diabetic but a certain lack of diet drinks on offer, had to settle for a low calorie lemonade. Bought a bag od crisps. enquired about nuts, but disappointed again, we dont have nuts here, we are a serious restaurant, they didn't like it when I said, yes I can see that closing the kitchen early.

Ate here on Friday lunchtime during February half term. The pub was very short staffed. More than 5 minute wait at the bar for drinks. Our table wasn’t ready at the reservation time. Took a while for our food and drink order to be taken. Food arrived after 15 minutes, we were still waiting for our drinks. Drinks arrived a few minutes later. No apology for the wait. No check back during meal. Would have liked lemon for my fish but no opportunity to ask. Service charge automatically added to the bill, which is unusual for a pub and a party of 2. Food was excellent, we ordered the salmon and cod & chips.

I have been to three hall and Woodhouse establishments recently -each one a nice building -the black rabbit in arundel/hangleton Manor hove and the one in pease pottage nr Crawley-each one had the same problem -not enough bar staff and on each occasion their best beer tanglefoot had run out -do they not employ staff that know how to change a barrel -it's false economy to understaff and only concentrate on food -people will walk out and go elsewhere .

Lovely food. However we weren't aware that it was the meeting fir Crufts!! We were surrounded by barking dogs in the restaurant. We couldn't hear ourselves think let alone talk. Ridiculous. There's a covered area outside for dog walkers surely? I can't abide sharing a food area with dogs. Two dogs yes, but there were about 5 yapping at each other and pulling chairs across the floor as they were leashed to them!! Sadly we've come here several times but will be looking for another venue for our family meet ups. Such a shame. It's geared for animals not humans!!

Not the best visit. The pub is lovely and a wonderful location, sadly everything else is lacking. We ordered from the lunch menu, and was surprised to realise that as it was a Monday we got 33% off the bill. This is the only reason we didn't complain, had we paid full price we would have spoken to a staff member. Childrens meals arrived luke warm. Asked for cutlery and was told by the worker that they were going to get them for us. 5 minutes passed, no cutlery. By this time the kids food was cold and ours still hadn't arrived. My husband went In to ask for cutlery again, and was told it would be brought out. Another 5 minutes passed and we had to flag down a staff member as by now our kids were ravenous and eating with their fingers. Cutlery finally arrived, but still no sign of our food. It finally arrived, and I don't know if the artichoke sandwich is usually as meagre as it was today but had I paid the full price (nearly £10) I would not have been impressed. My husbands chips were cold and had obviously been left hanging around in the kitchen for a while. All in all, not a great visit and would not rush back. Which is such a shame as the location is desirable. On a side note, the toilets smelt disgusting, so much so my 11 year old child refused to use them after the first time. As there is so much choice in Arundel, I think we will go elsewhere next time.

Very busy, but this is to be expected on a Saturday afternoon. Lovely atmosphere; staff welcoming and attentive. The children were given little activity bags which kept them entertained, which was great. The only thing I would say; is that the portions sizes for the adults, particularly the men, were a little on the small side - I don't usually have room for dessert, but even I would have had one, if there was something on the menu that caught my eye. A little pricey for portion size and my meal wasn't very hot. We would return, but maybe just for lunch next time and not a main meal.
