Fantastic dinner, and drinks overlooking the river. We can't thank the staff enough for making a fuss of us. You really made our day.

A nice pub however the staff are extremely rude. I went to the bar to order some food and drinks and when the girl saw me taking cash out of my wallet she just bellowed "we dont take cash its card only" then walked away. I found this to be very unproffesional and also unreasonable to discriminate against those wishing to use cash. We left and went somewhere else. Really disugusting the way I was treated and I wont visit this pub again.

Terrible experience and terribly rude staff. I got scolded for wanting to pay cash for our drinks and told they don’t accept cash now. The girl who told me this was so rude it beggars belief. We went elsewhere as I won’t be spoken to like that. This place used to be amazing but it’s certainly gone down hill on the service front. What a shame.

I’ve been excited to come here as I had a happy memory of this place from 40 years ago The setting and the views did not disappoint, unfortunately the food did. I ordered chicken parmigiana expecting for the price a nice chicken breast, unfortunately it was equivalent to a birdseye chicken in breadcrumbs with some melted cheese slapped on the top. The eton mess was awful again for the price, a very wierd tasting pot of cream, with no more than an inch worth of broken off meringue nest and some past their best strawberries and raspberries. Unfortunately the staff all seemed very unhappy and unfriendly too. Would come back grudgingly for an overpriced Prosecco for the sake of the setting, but never again for the food.

This was a birthday treat. Unfortunately the management/owners seem to be content to extort money on the basis of the beautiful location with no effort put into the food or atmosphere. We have been to several pubs and restaurants lately and even Wetherspoons is better food and more honest than here. I ordered steak pie with high expectations. I asked for some seasonal veg but was told that as they couldn’t charge for it ( no button on the computer) I could only have peas. The pie itself was nice but it arrived Luke warm accompanied by a tiny pot only half filled with thin gravy. I asked for more immediately and several minutes later I was grumpily served another equally poor and mean offering! We had to Keep asking different members of staff for things like mustard as we were not asked what condiments we needed when the food was plunked on the table. The puddings were equally disappointing and the drink prices leave me seething. £11 For a small bottle of prosecco that would be £7 anywhere else. Honestly this is the biggest puss take I have experienced for a very long time. Don’t waste yours. The management should hold their heads in shame at this wasted opportunity to present an exceptional venue.

5 stars for service, was very attentive, friendly and quick. 5 stars for location by the river with a large area of outdoor seating, but equally generous indoor seating. 3 stars for the food because it’s quite tasty but also quite expensive for small portions (over £8 for an average desert) and not brilliantly presented. But mostly because when a table of four on a busy day gets their food within 5 minutes of ordering you know that it’s been sat there pre-prepared waiting under a heat lamp for some time.

Not impressed. Ordered the pork sandwich and fish finger sandwich both seemed expensive for what was presented. The pork sandwich was full of rocket and the fish fingers bulk standard from a pack - nothing special. The ciabatta was very chewy and not pleasant. The only plus side were the chips. No onion rings as they had run out and my partner asked for bbq sauce to be told they didn't have any. Not the best lunch time experience and limited menu, so will definitely not be going back any time soon. Overpriced probably due to location. We were offered a coffee each or a cold drink, but by then we just wanted to leave. May possibly been given some money off the bill if we had had an open tab. Definitely much nicer places to eat out there.

With £8 for a dessert and having to pay £2 extra for cheese on your burger (and another £3 extra for bacon!), you expect a quality experience. This wasn't. Indeed it was a catalogue of errors: - Charging us for a drink they didn't have, and then not telling us why it didn't turn up - Getting an order wrong - Charging too much to our card by just tapping the machine to our card without showing us the amount - Repeatedly ignoring our table To think that they are now including a 10% service charge, when the service is patchy at best, would be laughable if it weren't so insulting when compared with the costs for the food. I used to regard the Black Rabbit as a local institution. I would have a drink here by the river but would be reluctant to eat inside again.

To put this into context, my wife usually struggles to eat just a normal pub main, but is starving hungry. I had the Chicken Parmigiana for £18. Which works out to be like a small chicken Kiev (no filling) with melted cheese, a tiny amount of salad and some chips, the burgers are equally unimpressive. It's talked about like THE local attraction. The setting is great, by the river, so perfect for a sunny lunchtime or afternoon drink outside on sunny days. We were there a chilly Spring evening. Food took an hour between starter and main, and was like school dinners, well below average. The 'pulled mushroom burger ' was just unrecognisable grey matter in the shape of a burger from a packet. I was pretty unimpressed with my previous visit to the BR in terms of ale, food and service but the game has been 'upped' as they say. A lovely building in such a gorgeous location deserves a bit of effort to woo the customers and not the take or leave it "we don't care" attitude of past times. So, 1. the staff, and we interacted with 4/5 of them, all really pleasant and quick to serve or let you know that you've been noticed and you'll not be kept too long. 2. The food, good value, quickly served and very tasty (camembert & mushroom wellington in my case) and finally 3. The ale, obviously it's a Hall & Woodhouse pub so, wi' some trepidation (Badger beers not a fave) I tried the Fursty Ferret and the Tangle Foot. Both ales in pretty good condition and as good as ever they are. The only complaint is my usual "a pint glass holds A PINT! If it's not full when the head has calmed down you've overcharged" the punter. Anyway, overall a good experience and congratulations to the team for doing justice to a lovely venue.

Booked a table 4 days in advance to take visiting family for lunch. As weather was nice I knew it was going to be busy because of the location next to the river . When we turned up and checked in for our table we was told there was nothing available even though she could see we had booked. We was told that we could either try and find a table in the bar side and wait or we could wait outside and if one became available they would try and get us in. I’m quite an easy going and understanding person but my 2 biggest put offs are 1. We booked they accepted so therefore expect a table within reason for the time we booked for and 2. Being told to hang about and wait and they would try and get us in. I’m not sure how many other people they said that to or where we are in order of being sat down but in the mean time expected to buy countless drinks waiting for a try to fit in . Normally I like coming to this pub but unfortunately it has left us a bit disappointed and unsure if we would return .

Kids were due to eat free due to a promotion. I checked this with a member of staff who confirmed it was available. However when my husband went to pay the bill he noticed the kids meals had been charged for. Customers shouldn’t have to highlight offers and then double check it’s been done correctly. We would never return here for food due to quality and price but would for a drink in the summer due to location. It’s such a shame as it could be lovely but is being let down by not meeting the simplest of things.

We visited for dinner. We booked for 5.30 and chose to sit in the dining area where its table service. After being seated we waited almost 30 minutes before we had to ask a passing server to take our order. Our food arrived quickly but before our drinks and even then we had to ask if we could have our drinks. I ordered the slow braised beef shin which tasted nice but I had 5 small chunks of beef and 1 and a half slices of carrot so I’m not sure what the almost £20 price tags was for. My partner had the double cheeseburger which he enjoyed but there was barely any cheese on it. A server came round and lit candles on every table except ours. When the server cleared our table she asked if we wanted a dessert menu to which we said yes but then after 10 mins or so we had to get again flag someone down to ask for a menu. A server then came to us and asked if we wanted to order our mains even though she’d walked passed us eating several times. We both had a nice sticky toffee pudding, good portion size, just would’ve been nice to been passed our spoons and not had them dropped on the table in passing. We asked for the bill twice and then eventually when we got it we asked for the service charge to be removed which they did straight away without question. We wanted to explain the issues we’d had but we didn’t feel they wanted to know and felt a bit dismissed which makes us think it possibly happens fairly frequently. We noticed most tables even big ones were having to wave servers down. We then had to ask for the card machine as again they didn’t bring it over. Overall the food is nice although the beef shin was very disappointing due to the lack of main ingredients, but the service was extremely poor and for this reason we won’t return. We would suggest having set servers for set areas and hopefully this would stop customers feeling invisible and unwelcome, or stick to just having to order at the bar / via QR code.

Our favourite place to visit for coffee and food on the beach….but today we find a coffee machine installed for the rear takeaway producing a totally different coffee experience - really not good. Hopefully this will not be the same inside going forward as it really is nothing like the coffee we’ve had over the last few years…we will just go inside and get a takeaway I guess as we love this place but disappointed today ☹️

Went today for a couple of coffees, after waiting 5 minutes some young guy who had been folding napkins eventually wandered over looking most disinterested. I asked for 2 coffees and he said ' can't do hot drinks '. No apology or reason why. Needless to say with 2 other places nearby, West Park and The Waverley, where you feel welcome will not be coming back here.
