Amazing food, quick service. We always coming back to the black penny for an excellent breakfast.

Food was really good- the only thing in common with the Covent garden was the name. The service was rude and abrupt. We had to ask for things several times often meet with attitude. This affected the atmosphere . We were asked to do a review (delusional) but had no care for us as customers and seemed we were just asked to met compliance. We came here because how much we enjoy the covent garden one but its not reflection of that.

Quick service in a busy part of London. Went with mum after visiting Saatchi and would recommend to a friend. We were impressed by the quality of the salmon and flavours pulled together in the salmon Niçoise salad. Mum’s lemon, ginger & honey tea was fresh, and a bit strong for her (I thought it was perfect), the waiter brought out a pot of hot water to dilute it with. Many people were sat drinking aperol as it’s a sun trap outside.

Gorgeous location and amazing food

Tumar and his team (special shout to the ginger man and his turkish friend) looked after our group in this beautiful spot. It could have been a tourist trap but instead it had good quality, tasty food and great service. Highly recommended

Tumer was just the right level of hospitable-always there when I needed something. Food was wonderful and atmosphere very relaxed and felt totally comfortable. Portion sizes are amazing!

I have previously reviewed another Black Penny branch and did state my preferred Black Penny branch is the Sloane Square Duke of York because it has a spacious and peaceful atmosphere outdoors. I tried the french toast again and it was a good quality FT, the scrambled egg is part of the personal breakfast tradition when I visit restaurants and sadly the scrambled egg was not my favourite, the bread let it down, it was really hard, cutting and biting. Overall it was a nice experience and would recommend checking it out.

Lunch food is pretty good. Breakfast food is very good, even delicious. BUT it would have to be as the service at this branch is hooooorible! Staff are so rude every time I go, everyone comments as they are eating. Yes I’ve been a few times, I’m a sucker for pain. So if you love a good breakfast, whilst being ignored and feeling silly for eating, then go here! Should be called Breakfast Tyrants! 😂

Was advertised as all day dining. But we showed up at 3:30 and they turned us away saying they were closed. False advertising, so honestly an untrustworthy establishment that I shall not be revisiting in a hurry.

They are always so accommodating with my lactose intolerance, food is always delicious. It’s one of my favourite brunch spots in London

Disappointing Experience – Overpriced and Poor Quality I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The food was extremely overpriced for what you get. Calling it "average" would be generous—the quality was poor, and it was clear just by looking at the ingredients that they weren’t fresh or well-prepared. Service was minimal—just taking the order, bringing the food, and processing payment. No warmth, no attentiveness, just the basics. To make matters worse, the cleanliness of the restaurant was concerning, especially the toilets, which were in an unacceptable state. Overall, this place is not worth the money. There are plenty of other restaurants that offer better food, service, and cleanliness for the same (or even lower) price. Would not recommend.

Overpriced food, very rude staff. I didn’t pay service charge because they didn’t deserve it.

Very disappointing. We arrived at the of the restaurant and were told by the staff at the entrance that there was a queue for the tables inside. I took a quick glance inside, and asked how long would it take. The guy proceeded to laugh and smirk in my face. This is deeply unprofessional, and the fact that this place consistently scores low on customer service should tell you enough. Luckily there other places nearby.

Atrociously appalling service. Our server was rude and unhelpful when we were just trying to find a suitable table since we had our baby with us. We eventually took an outdoor seat and the pigeons got to our food - when we told the server this he just said “So?”. Disgusting behavior. Our mistake for not having patronized Comptoir Libanais next door instead. (Originally left a review for the wrong TBP branch - this is the correct one)

Came with a baby and was made to feel extremely unwelcome: made to feel we were in the way, then food took a long time to arrive - by which time we were in the middle of dealing with our baby and food was immediately pecked at by pigeons. Owner didn’t care. Giving a 1* review mainly because a 12.5% service charge was automatically applied - I guess they weren’t going to get tips any other way. Recommend to avoid.

Super friendly staff. Good coffee. The scramble eggs for breakfast were very well done and super big.

I always liked the one in Holborn. This one was horrible. Service staff totally ignored me. Bad vibes.

Atrocious service. Walked in to be met by a rude older man who rolled his eyes disapprovingly when we said we just wanted coffee. Another table confirmed they were given the same reception. Coffee was vile and definitely machine coffee. Ended up getting something to eat due to pure pressure of the server- food was horrible. Server rushed to get us to pay, no customer service- stuck the pin reader in our face and waited for us to tap- no talking. Also very suspicious, we were not given a bill to check, he just put in a number to the pin reader- very odd. Avoid this place at all costs!

Food was decent and limited seating inside. Be attentive because when I had to go to the bar to ask for my bill, the staff member working at the time (21 Nov around 15:02), who was not our server, gave himself a 15% tip and skipped straight to the payment screen. He also did not offer me a receipt as I was confused why my total was higher than expected. Okay brunch food but beware of staff.

My best friend and I visited The Black Penny last Saturday as an alternative to eating at the local Chelsea market. It was our first time here, and we thought we’d give it a try. The place has a nice, cozy atmosphere and the staff was lovely and welcoming. The food was decent, though not particularly flavorful, and the menu didn’t have a huge selection of options. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but I’d say it’s more for a light bite than a standout meal.

A find, good food and excellent value. Nice to sit outdoors and people watch.

TBP/Sloane Square is my go to restaurant when in from California. Consistent in the quality of it's dishes, the staff always warm and welcoming - a fantastic location to perch and people watch - I never feel rushed to move along post meal - very relaxing - Thank you Ozge for taking such good care of us on Saturday.

Best breakfast in London. Ive been coming here since 2019. Best service and atmosphere thanks to Tumar and Ozge.

We came for lunch on a rainy day, 1 September 2024. There were a few seats available so didn’t take long to get attended to. The restaurant is tucked nicely into the corner of the square so not a massive foot-flow of people passing by but still a good spot to people watch as we had the window seat. Food seemed to take a long time for a burrata salad and OZDEMIR PASHA. Whilst the food tasted ok it wasn’t anything special. The waiter seemed over attentive (forgot water) and grumpy quick to take order and charge us. They automatically charge you service charge that’s didn’t make the food so reasonable priced so disappointing after the long wait for food and had to get ourselves glasses of water as it’s nice to have when eating and enjoying a coffee. Will not return as plenty of nice friendly and flavourful cafes around. I’d been here a few times before but for a not so busy day dissatisfied.

I have visited a couple of times for breakfast - this time it was for brunch and a tasty full plate of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on sourdough. The eggs were really good. It's an ideal location for the Kings Road area and close to Partridge's and the Saatchi Gallery. It can get busy but on dry days there is outdoor seating.

I liked their breakfast. It was varied, but they ordered the salad without onions if you yourself don't like onions

We were there for lunch. I was really disappointed of the food quality. Reviews are basically not bad so because of this we wanted to try. We got babagannush and as main dish chicken thighs. It was tasteless. I believe ingredients quality are the lowest. They buy cheapest products but charge like it's not.. P.S. I'm adding this after the restaurant reply; we were there yesterday around 12 and we did not take receipt as noone does these days unless they need. What we ate is exactly what I wrote above. So, you can check with those details what ever you need. Thank you..

Good food, but refused to remove the DISCRETIONARY service charge. Clearly they need to reword their menu. Staff was very rude when asked about it.

We visited for brunch during the Chelsea in Bloom event with our flower shop team. The food and service were excellent. Even when one of our colleagues fell ill and fainted, blocking the kitchen pass-through, the staff kindly made space for her to recover and were very helpful throughout the half-hour ordeal. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused. By the way, everything turned out well!

Came here for a work lunch which had been booked and even though my colleague was there they didn't know the booking. It took a while to find her and get seated. Not busy and it took a long time to get served and we had to ask a few times for drinks. Some didn't come. Variety of staff served us and not all that friendly.

The food was nice but the costumer service was horrible… They were really rude to us and they urged us to leave as soon as we paid. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Great value for money and tasty, large portions

Came her for lunch. Was very impressed. The portion sizes were massive. The lamb shoulder for beautiful. Salt beef hash was tasty. Hunters breakfast was huge. I will be coming back to try different things on the menu. Service was was good. Worth a visit if you're around duke of York.

The place felt dirty for some reason. The Waiters seemed like they can't be bothered. Waitress actually turned her back on us when we called her. Food was OK, nothing special, and coffee was average. Not the best bang for your buck.

Lovely lunch in the sunshine, great (healthy) food choices and good service

Aware this is London but your prices are ridiculous. £4.90 for about 200ml of warm orange juice is a joke. Food is bang average, do yourself a favour and head to Pavilion Road for a much better selection - Granger & Co is cheaper than this…. Service ok, a bit slow and inattentive. Toilet was disgusting. Save the trip and go somewhere nicer. Snooty was the word I would use.

This used to be a good go to in Chelsea for brunch and coffee but the service just keeps getting worse and worse. The waiters are really quite unfriendly and borderline rude to you which really brings down the atmosphere

Been here several times and service gets worse with each visit. Quite liked it here but unfortunately won’t be returning as service is terrible. Servers ignore you, slam your food/drinks down on table and quickly turn their backs to you, no eye contact, and generally treat you as if you’re not wanted there. Very odd Asked to pay the bill 2x times and no one brought it out to us so had to go inside to ask to pay which they seemed annoyed at even though they didn’t bring it out to us Don’t like going places where paying customers are treated like they’re not wanted

We usually go to the Covent Garden branch but as we were heading for South Kensington this morning we decided to try. Reserved a table but turned up just as they were opening so no need really. Delicious food. Red eggs were super tasty. Nice friendly staff

I didn’t realise the brunch and Prosecco voucher that I had was for their Covent Garden location instead, but one staff member (didn’t take his name unfortunately) without me asking went to the effort of ringing someone to make sure that I could use my voucher here instead. We’re vegetarian so we ordered the Ozdemir Pasha and The Gather which both tasted amazing and the portions were very generous. The same staff member even got us some coffees free of charge which is some of the best coffee I’ve ever tried. Couldn’t rate the service, food, or coffee higher, would definitely recommend this place.
