5 out 5 would be best ever. This was great but not best ever. Would definitely return for more deserts when nearby. Visited recently and service was friendly and fast. Purchased a brownie and whoopie pie. Deserts were yummy and very happy with our purchase. Wouldn’t travel just for these but if I’m in the area would be happy to try other things.

I bought my birthday cake 5 minutes ago, I was confused by so many delicious options and the girl kindly helped me choose by explaining each flavor!! When I approached to pay, the very friendly and smiling man at the cashier took my payment, making me feel very welcome in this pastry shop!! I really recommend this place

I've made an order, the driver arrived at 8 in the morning called 3 times in 1 minute, I called him back after 2 minutes and he never replied, he just left, without trying to get into the building. I paid £8 for delivery. The support said that it was my problem, and that they were not going to refund the delivery fees or anything else, instead they offered me to collect my order at the shop which is one hour away by train from the place where I live. Very dissatisfied, never ordering from them again.

The Customer service lady that was south asian, was very rude and she lacked good character and manners and rolled her eyes when she got my order wrong. The red velvet cupcake i had was overly sweet and sickly… ive had better and better service 👎

I used to visit Hummingbird Bakery frequently about 10 years ago, and recently I made my first visit since then. While the visual appeal of the bakery remains stunning, the taste has unfortunately declined significantly. The vanilla cupcake was excessively sweet, and the sponge was neither as fresh nor as light as I remember.

I was let down with an order from another bakery in London the day before my function and needed to find a celebration cake on the day for a friend's 75th birthday. From my first enquiry online to collection of the cake, communication was outstanding. The staff in the store were friendly and I left with an 8" chocolate cake, topper, and candles. The cake was delicious, but quite crumbly. I notified the bakery and they advised they would discuss this with the baker and provided a refund voucher, all in the same day. That is what I call service. The Humbingbird will definately be visited by me again. Keep up the great service and excellent quality, you'll be selling many more cakes!!

The pioneer in bringing American style cupcakes to the UK. The cookery book was a hit years ago, especially the cream cheese frosting recipe. Red velvet is a best seller, coming in vegan, Gluten free and regular. You can sit peacefully outside to enjoy a hot drink and a sweet treat.

We ordered several pieces for delivery for a dinner party. The cake slices are 1/2 the size of what they used to be. We would accept this as prices of raw materials are higher. However, the cakes were dry and have for the most part lost their flavours. Also why did they stop making chocolate cake? (No longer on the menu). The cupcakes were an insult as they were dry and of very poor quality. Very disappointing that Hummingbird has now lost its quality focus.

We come to London very often and always stop by to get some cakes to take home. We went yesterday and I have to say, the quality in the cakes have really gone down hill! My rainbow cake slice was so dry and chewy (was AT LEAST 3 days old I'd say from how it tasted) the cookies were also dry and solid, with very little taste! I'm so so disappointed to say this after visitingfor the last 2 years, but I won't be stopping by anymore!

I’ve ordered the rainbow cake, it was fine but think a bit old. I would say it was baked at least 2/3 days ago. Didn’t feel entirely fresh.

A super cute, quaint and humble grass-roots style British cafe nestled in South Ken whipping up incredibly yummy and gooey based grub. Delicious, I could continue to eat this all day, every day and incredibly addicted. Delicious, but expensive and leaves a hole in the wallet for sure. Support local businesses!

One of the best red velvet cakes I’ve ever eaten! I bought a vegan red velvet cupcake and a slice of regular red velvet cake—the sweetness was perfect and the frosting was incredible! The cake was moist and delicious, though it was a bit pricey. I'd prefer getting a small red velvet cake from M&S for a similar taste at a better price!

This place is going downhill, the cakes are tasteless, and they get your order wrong. I will not be buying any more cakes from there. it's not the same and the shop does not smell very nice

A friend of mine surprised me yesterday with a Red Velvet cake from Hummingbird. While having moved from South Kensington to Battersea. I somehow haven't had any Hummingbird cupcakes or cake for a while. Me and all my neighbours and my sons enjoyed it very much. The feedback was always the same "This is Hummingbird right, you cant beat it , so good " we need a Hummingbird on this side of the river :) Loved it, Chris

The best red velvet cake i've ever tasted

Great place for desserts. Enjoyed the red velvet cupcake, chocolate hazelnut cupcake, carrot cupcake and salted caramel cupcake.

Quality has really gone down over the last ten years. The red velvet cake I ordered today was completely dry and hard, which was pretty shocking considering the prices. Staff were very young and inexperienced - seemed to prioritise chatting amongst each other than delivering quality customer service. Also, very unsettling to have so many fruit flies everywhere in the shop.... this doesn't seem to be very hygienic. They were literally dozens - on all of the windows, and also inside the display windows where the cakes are kept. You're sadly better off getting a cake at Tesco's.... Hummingbird is not what is used to be.

I usually love it, this time I ordered the vanilla cupcake with pink frosting and unfortunately I had to spit it out! The dough was clumpy and had hard bits in it. Not what I was used to at all. The taste was very unpleasant. I have to say usually I like the attitude when the taste makes you forget about things you don’t like… but this time it was simply bad. Plus why can’t someone buy a cupcake and start to eat it immediately? Why was I asked to leave the store ..

Ordered rainbow piñata cake for my daughters 6 th birthday. The cake itself presented well but was super dry there was no moisture to the cake such a disappointment. Cake was not edible . Post review - customer service offered voucher .

We ordered a birthday cake for our colleague 3 days in advance so we could get the exact cake we wanted. We were called this morning and told they could not track the cake and if it was late we would get a refund. Instead of recognizing their error and making another cake to deliver on time they simply blamed it on delivery and it was our issue. Shockingly poor level of service. We frequently order cakes from here and stunned at the indifference.

They messed up my order, twice! which was placed quite a while in advance, but were helpful in the end. I lost a lot of time on the day though and this could have been avoided. Plus the stress!! If they can’t handle bespoke orders, then they shouldn’t be accepting them. I understand it is a branch and not a monopolistic store, but quality is quite high always and thats why we are choosing it. The person who helped me with the cake nearly slipped in store while carrying it resulting in slight tilt of the cake. But Overall my guests loved the flavour though so no hard feelings. However I am Not 100% sure I will be ordering again from Hummingbird.

We last visited the hummingbird bakery in 20011. The cakes and brownies were amazing. However our recent trip was so disappointing. The 3 large slices of cake and cupcakes were so dry and underwhelming. They were definitely not the same standard as our last visit. I could not wait to take my children as I knew they would be excited but the cakes were so bad they refused to eat them after a few bites. Such a shame really that the standards have slipped. Very friendly staff serving though.

Cakes are excellent, went to chealsea branch today and noticed a fly crawling over the cakes on display, In stead of looking an shooing the fly away I was told "yeah nothing we can do" and just carried on with what she was doing. I understand there is little they can do but would of appeared more hygenic if they were a little more pro active

Awesome place, very cozy jazz background music and their own coffee which is the best I have had in a while. Would come again if I wasn't a tourist.

Cupcakes are really good, almost at Lola's level. Cake slices are huge, and very tasty. However, service is horrible. They offer only disposable forks, even if you are eating in, and staff rudely refuses to cut their enormous slices in smaller pieces. A shame!

End of an era….The service was awful and unwelcoming. The cakes were being manhandled and once we got home and actually tried them all the cakes were dry. It isn’t how it used to be. I’ve had better cakes from the supermarket and after being a loyal customer I will definitely not be returning.

Great Vegan 18th Birthday cake for my son, we got the chocolate version and was tasty and moist. The service at the South Ken branch was really good, the guy who served me was friendly. I also had to collect the cake early, due to a change in my circumstances, and they made it happen, so thank you! One request to all Hummingbird branches....PLEASE MORE VEGAN OPTIONS!!

July 6 I ordered a special and expensive birthday cake for a family re union. Picked it up as ordered on July 10 at 430 pm . It was72 GBPs of rubbish. Very dry, crumbly, tasted more like grated cardboard than chocolate and absolutely no hint of butter in the buttercream frosting. BTW Ivan only find “no reply”email addresses for them, as well when I tried to call to complain on theSouthKensington number, was answered by a fax machine screech! So dissappointing! And frustrating!

Very teasty cakes and good service. Price is also good for what you get!

Generic, generic, generic. S’mores brownie with NO marshmallow? That’s like bread with no flour. I am a massive sweet tooth but this was truly mediocre. I got the s’mores brownie. It’s got white icing on top of the brownie, which I thought was melted marshmallow, but to my surprise it was just regular icing, which is not very fitting of a s’mores brownie. The only reason why this place did not get one star was because of the very nice employee.

Stopped by after a visit to the natural history museum as had previously visited other hummingbird shops. Chose some great tasting chocolate & red velvet brownies and Easter biscuits. However the girl serving was very unfriendly.

I used to love Hummimgbird cupcakes as they were similar to Magnolia’s in NYC, but over the past few years they just haven’t been the same consistent quality and taste. I’ve given it a few chances but everytime felt disappointed as they weren’t anything special. The vanilla cupcakes, although fresh, don’t have much flavour and are very bland. My husband felt the same about his oreo one. Wish they’d go back to their original recipe/ingredients. The service was very good though and the prices are reasonable.

I detoured to the South Ken shop on my way home from work to get my favourite red velvet cupcakes. Unfortunately they only has one left, so I reluctantly opted for the gluten free option. The cake was so dry what a waste of time and money. Maybe next time I'll have better luck The location is very nice though and the staff were professional .

Delicious and indulgent cakes. I had an enormous slab of salted caramel chocolate cake which was incredibly rich and moist. Whilst my daughter enjoyed a slice of smores brownie, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Can wait to visit this shop or one of the other sites across London to sample their other treats.

Tried Hummingbird Bakery for the first time after a very long time and it’s safe to say that this bakery is worth the hype. There’s a reason why a lot of Londoners trust Hummingbird Bakery for celebration cakes! I tried the Valentines cupcake and I have never tried a cupcake that is so full and rich in flavour. I would honestly only trust Hummingbird bakery for all my baked goods now!

Stopped by for rainbow cake, which was fantastic but realistically it was far too big and expensive. Would have been better half the size for half the price (it was going stale the next day). Would definitely go again but try something smaller.

Tasty treats but don't ask for your cake to be decorated with a written message. Just paid £62 for a cake with a simple message on it, which was printed out clearly on the order slip. The decorator got the message wrong TWICE! The second time, the staff didn't even apologize and indicated it would be a hassle to redo the message properly, so I just left (as it would also be a hassle for me to return yet again). Not good enough for such a pricey item! Maybe additional staff training is in order.

First time in London i found mouth watering pastries !! 🤤 Specially I was looking for red velvet . Price is little bit high but if i compare with the size its worthy. And rainbow cake is on instagrammable mode.hihi. 1 slice is enough for 2 person if you want to share with ur partner . 😬😉

Popped into the store today looking for a sweet treat from the renowned bakery, only to be faced with THE most unwelcoming greeting from the front of house staff. The two young girls didn’t even bother looking up at me as I entered the store and said good morning. Luckily, there was one saving grace who promptly took over to provide positive and well delivered customer service before I left the empty store. He was great. Such a shame that once I got home to indulge in my sweet choices with a cuppah, the red velvet brownie was dry and tasteless. The brownie base had no texture, it was like a chocolate sponge cake.. the cream cheese icing was bland, unevenly decorated and roughly dusted in red. My four year old could have made a better batch from a Betty Crocker box mix. So disappointed and not worth boiling the kettle for.

Been to plenty better independent cake shops. Thought I'd try this, for the novelty and reputation. Was very disappointing. Brownie tasted like dry beef, gingerbread cupcake was tough (had better at home). Cappuccino was full of froth and took a long timr for staff to make. Red velvet cake was decent but nothing above standing out. Expected better quality all round. Would not recommend

Paid extra to Have numbers iced on 2 of my cupcakes and it looked like a toddler had done it. There was a slightly strange chemical taste to them and 2 of the sponges were dry. Overall very disappointing and won’t be ordering from here again

This is the loveliest little spot! It's so cute on the outside AND inside, and the staff is lovely. But sadly, the 2 pieces of cake we got were disappointing. We quite literally had 2 bites and then tossed them. Very dry, like they were days old and so heavy and dense. Better luck with baked goodies elsewhere I suppose.

The rainbow cake has pieces of egg shells in them, the carrot cake made my dad throw up, and the boxing has a smell that affects the taste of the cakes. Smelt almost poisonous to eat

I tried once half year ago and I loved the red velvet. So I brought 10 cupcakes today. When I ate the first one, there is an unknown plastic strip inside the cupcake🤮 I will never eat again I hope I can give it zero stars.

I recommend trying the beautiful Red Velvet cakes, and they have several wah cakes, and I thank the staff for the nice treatment

Dark Maltesers have taken over Hummingbird bakery for one day. There were two cakes to choose from, a chocolate and a chocolate cardamon by 2021 Bake-Off finalist Crystell Pereira. I opted for the chocolate so that I could see how their regular chocolate cakes taste like. The chocolate cake was amazing, from the rich moist chocolate cake to the lovely chocolate coating. It was so nice of them to offer each person a whole cake each.

I’ve ordered from here for two important birthdays and both orders were totally messed up. The first cake was like a child had made the cake and the second order was completely lopsided. To top it off, the customer services department (Charlotte and Kirsi) were completely unhelpful and not willing to compensate. I spent a total of £150 and will never be buying from HBB again. Avoid this bakery and all associated branches. 0/5 stars.

When visiting London, we decided to pay a visit to the Hummingbird Bakery to have tea and cake. Friendly staff, great cakes, a true treat!

Staff lacked knowledge, manager was rude and unfriendly. The cupcakes we ordered red velvet and found the icing tasty however the sponge cake was extremely dry based on cupcake experience i would never purchase again considering they charging £3.40 for each cupcake its is over priced for dry cakes. The cappuccino was strong and tasty and thats the only reason ive even rated this branch, if solely based on cupcake and staff then rating would be big fat zero 0 ....the coffee was its saving grace which is why ive given 2*

If I could give them a zero star I would, other branches are way better, they let me wait 90 whole minutes for a slice of cake, it was dry and tasted like sugar dashed on sugar, absolutely revolting and ignored me saying, nothing they can do. Don’t shop here. Rude staff, bad food. Overall 0/10

One of my favourite bakeries in town. I usually visit the Nottinghill branch but this is my first in this specific branch. Happy with the service. A bit pricy tho compared to a lot of other bakeries.

Everything very tasty, delicious and sweet. Large choice for everyone who like sweet bakery 🧁 Everything always fresh - only this day bake. Have seeting tables inside & outside. Have beautiful box for take away 🛍️ Really high level service.

Low icing So. Bought carrot cake from this place in South Kensington. As you can see. The icing is super thin. Not much layered in the cake. And as you can see from the back shot - icing is very thin. Now I like icing on my cake. More than the cake itself. So. If a place like this is going to charge just under 5pounds for a slice of cake - then I really am hoping for it to be iced now I like it.

Super cute place with amazing selection of cupcakes, brownie’s and cake Staff are very welcoming Particularly Nicholas who helped me what to get. I Will be coming back again and highly recommend if anyone is visiting the area

Tried to contact the store to check if a cake was in stock before heading there. They have no phone numbers published anywhere and seem to only working via email. Bought a cake from a competitor bakery who takes customer’s phone calls.

Picked up 4 cup cakes and a glazed brownie on 04/12. The chocolate cup cake and red velvet cup cake both tasted lush. The salted caramel and one with chocolate sprinkles along with the brownie tasted a bit dry and not too fresh. It’s a tiny shop, staff are pretty friendly. Clearly says outside that not more than 2 are allowed at one time. Me and hubby were selecting cakes with one woman behind us. All of us were wearing masks. Suddenly 3 non-mask wearing women barged into the tiny store as well with ZERO respect for the rules and zero ‘civic’ sense. Had to quickly leave without getting a chance to select more. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED.

Ordered two pies for Thanksgiving (apple and pecan). When I picked them up, I was taken aback by how light the boxes were despite the large box size. I was shocked and completely disappointed when I saw what was inside. Little 6 inch pies for 30 GBP each was completely absurd and unfortunate. I was hosting for 12 and was left in a jam last minute with miniature pies. Further, the apple pie had a huge slab of butter on the bottom of it, (perhaps not to slide around in the normal sized pie box?) leaving it greasy and gross. The pecan pie had a minuscule number of pecans, and should have been called sugar pie rather than pecan. Next year I'll be absolutely ordering elsewhere. My neighbors recently picked up lovely and normal sized pies for a 1/3 of the the price which also beat in flavour and quality. I was expecting much more from Hummingbird Bakery and felt truly taken advantage of here. Left very disappointed.

I usually get a cake from here afew times for the year. Thinking to try something new I order the lemon raspberry cake, however I was really disappointed. The cake had a lovely taste and was very pretty looking but the middle wasn't cooked properly.... so sad to say, I may have to think twice if ordering from here again.

We loved coming here because we've been working our way through the cookbook during lockdown. We were disappointed that there wasn't a wide variety of cakes to choose from, however the quality was everything we expected and the cakes are absolutely delicious.

Bit poor that in this day & age they don’t have vegan cakes unless you pre-order them.
