My favourite pub in Leicester. Lovely old fashioned boozer, well served and well kept ale (and a lot of it at 4 to 5 taps on) as well as a real cyder, usually old rosie. Homemade cobs for sale on the bar as well, reasonable price. Has a lovely old skool layout, does well to keep it this way given the increasing glare and consumerism of the local area.

My favourite pub in the world Minutes from the country park, decent menu and a community hub - has book club etc and hosts comedy nights. So glad it survived the pandemic. Parking is the only downside but a beer garden is a better use of space and great for (dog or not) walkers. A few street parking spaces. And it’s a poke stop!

The Black Horse pub is definitely pub in Leicester, probably the best pub in the British Isles. As the British Isle has the best pub then this must be the best pub in the world. I love this pub with all my heart, a great selection of beers all full of characters to fill the bellies of the regulars. It's no wonder the locals are so heartwarming and welcoming once they have had a tipple of the offerings the landlord has provided for them. It's relaxing atmosphere always helps me relaxing. Unlike chain pubs, the landlord often gives me provides me with a frank and honest assessment of me, most of the time he's right. It's like seeing your reflection in a mirror with an added audio description. The venue has created an unrivaled meeting place, where I have met many interesting people and made many friends. All my trips to Leicester are filled with warm, if not rather hazy memories. I sometimes ask myself what I want from life, all I know is there's nothing better than a real ale in good company in the Black Horse pub. Thank you

Whenever I’ve been in, the landlord is lazy and miserable. Nasty man with a predilection for amateur dramatics. Felt like a nice cottage pub, locals in there ( must of been ) I understand you close at 12.30AM, but Jesus the landlord doesn’t need to be so RUDE! Telling the people ‘twice’ to hurry up and drink up? Chill... people skills please. Like seriously you only want our money. No wonder it’s quiet , because you get the ‘younger staff’ to do your work. Yet again you are doing well must be your hard worker employees.

MORE AT Google

This was a pub randomly chosen from the internet as a meeting place to meet up with someone when I visited Leicester and from the internet it looked like a fairly typical traditional English pub that offered a good atmosphere and live music. I also needed somewhere with convenient on or off street parking and this ticked that box, with on street parking right opposite the entrance to the pub. It was also convenient for the person I was meeting, who lived a few minutes walk away. As I was going to be driving, I didn't want to have alcohol but did want a non-alcohol lager. The pub had no alcohol free beer and nothing to offer that remotely resembled an alcohol free drink other than soft drinks. I resigned myself to an orange juice and lemonade, which was served by someone who clearly had no previous bar experience as they had to keep referring to their colleague for instructions. I wanted to pay by card and was informed that there was a £10.00 minimum charge for using a card. Despite the rather pricey cost of my drink at just over £4.00, my purchase clearly didn't meet their minimum threshold, so I suggested that as I was meeting someone there, who was due to arrive imminently, that I wait for them to come so that we could complete our order and I would pay then. This was apparently not acceptable, despite the emptiness of the bar (there were 4 other people in the entire bar) or the fact that I would sit at the table nearest the bar and furthest away from the door in plain view of the bar staff. They would only accept my paying on arrival of the person I was meeting if I gave them my debit/credit card which they would keep behind the bar. I was not willing to do this and would not have done this in any circumstance anywhere. Their only other suggestion was that I should go to a cash point and get money out to pay with. With my ordered drink on the bar in front of me and a complete stalemate in our stated positions, I managed to scrape enough cash from my purse together to cover the cost of the drink. When the person I was meeting arrived, I shared my experience with them and we agreed that I should finish my drink and we would go elsewhere rather than spend any more time or money in this pub. Whilst I realise that inner city pubs do have to ensure that they don't lose money with people leaving without paying, the staff in this instance clearly didn't have the discernment or discrimination to be able to make a value judgement on a case by case basis and simply applied a blanket rule to all. I've visited many bars and restaurants in different UK and European destinations and have never been asked to relinquish my credit/debit card to strangers in this way - and I would add that many of the places I have visited have accepted payment at the end of service rather than at the beginning. If I had not had some car park change in my purse I would have simply left. For staff friendliness, service and choice of drinks, I would have to recommend avoiding this pub altogether. Very poor and would not visit again.

Me and my friend were both stunned as we were unaware of this light and we did not turn it on, there have been other occasions but this is already a long review in whole he is not a very nice individual.

I went there last night and ordered a glass of mojito. Firstly, staff behaviour was not professional. I had to wait for a long time to see somebody comes to me to receive my order. Secondly, the portion of mojito was not satisfying due to the £7.7 I paid. The glass was full of ice cubes but a little portion of syrup. I did not like their atmosphere and the music as well.
